Standing straight Jason faces the creature, for it is too obviously not trulky human. He had seen the some of the depths that humanity can sink to in on both sides in Iraq and Afghanistan, and this thing seemed beyond even those. However, Jason had survived those places with more of his sanity intact than many of his fellow soldiers by employ the old samurai philosophy and assuming that every second could be his last.

"First Wing Relana," Thomas said in a voice going from calm to stressed, "what my collegue says is true. Let us safeguard our children."

"I must say that if we did know the way to your kingdom, we would have no need to follow you. Seeing as we haven't a clue, or the desire, to find your way home I feel is yet another indicator of our innocence."

Thomas shrugs stifly, getting angrier with this sword weilding fruit-cake,

"Of course I should watch what I say. You obviously care much more for your duty and threatening unarmed people than any real desire to be just or protect the innocent. It's absolutely stunning we can't trust you with children," he says, words dripping with sarcasm.

"When you leave tonight, good riddance. You are disgusting and your ... nah, I imagine I shouldn't say that. Just go and I hope I never have to be in a room with you again."

When things got more heated, Emily had withdrawn a bit. She noted Frida's entrance with an arched eyebrow, and made sure to keep another student between the two. She listened to the exchanges between Sylvia and the strange woman, as well as the various student reactions with interest.

Quickly, she scanned the crowd of students. Finding the face she sought, she wove her way through the throng towards the slim young man. She snagged his sleeve and pulled him aside. She bent her face close to his ear.

"I want you to find out anything and everything you can about the following topics. Camarine Army. The rank of 'First Wing'. The origin of the name 'Relana'. The word 'Shovat'.... and... oh, hell. Find out what 'LARPers' are for me."

The young man opened his mouth, as if to speak.

"And before you ask, the answer is 'just shut the fuck up and do it.' I'll expect to hear from you before the morning bell. Something is going on that I don't understand, and you KNOW how much I hate that."

She released his sleeve and glided away. The entire 'exchange' had taken a couple of seconds.

Lucia had frowned at the interruption to the social and made a quiet excuse to Zach. She slipped back through the kitchens and out around the building, planning to catch the party crashers as they were (obviously going to be) escorted out of the school. She wasn't angry that they'd come to the social; she planned on asking them what school they were from and possibly offering to arrange a inter-school social. They seemed interesting if odd, and she was intensely curious about their insistence on numbering people. Her mother always told her her curiosity got her in just as much trouble as her ambition. Lucia had always taken it as a compliment.

Outside it took her several minutes to find where the intruders had gone; and another minute to recover from the sight of a another stranger, this one toting a sword!, and the strange tableau of teachers, students, and party crashers headed across the quad towards the dorms. Ms. Dorn was with them, but from years of watching the mousy teacher, and the pale look of fear she had in face of the drawn blade, made Lucia pretty certain she should step in.

She cleared her throat after approaching quietly, "Excuse me, ma'am, is there something you need from the dorms? There's no need for weapons or violence." She smiled at the woman as charmingly and soothingly as she could. "My name is Lucia Blake, I'm the student council President. If there's someone you need to talk to or something you need from the dorms, I'm sure I could help. I'd prefer to do so without the weaponry, however."

Chester scurried at the edge of the quad, beside the theater. He did want to get the Fantasy Foursome away from Dalton, but after hovering near the doors for a while, he decided he had no interest in getting another chance of a sword stab or gunshot. However, finding what they are looking for alone sounded better.

As long as they leave, that's what matters.

There was a flicker of something at Sylvia’s words, but without the normal range of expressions that they were used to seeing, it was difficult to tell what emotion the First Wing had been about to relay. “Thirty-four years ago, your children were the ones who led the assault on the Sanctuary of the Nine, and slew four of them as they slept,” she spit at both teachers, her voice hard, as hard as those black eyes.

Then Lucia joined the party at the edge of the quad, speaking her words of conciliation. A strange grayish-blue color began to creep up Relana’s neck, cheeks and ears; had it been red, it would have been a flush. But flushes weren’t this strange color. “All the help I need is to be left alone!” the strange woman shouted.

If this been in the movies, Relana would have engaged in some impressive slash; instead, she turned her hips and thrust with her sword in a deceptively minimalist movement. Sylvia had been half-expecting this, and she jumped backwards, but not enough; she gasped as the end of the sword slipped with distressing ease into her torso. It hurt quite a bit, too, leaving her feeling surprisingly weak. “That is not a lethal strike,” Relana snarled. “The next will be. You will let us pass without further violence, or more blood will be split here.”

She stood, prepared for another attack, Sylvia’s blood staining the end of her sword. Startlingly, the blood faded quickly, leaving the sword white again – though visibly not as white as before.

Jason had his back to the group and missed the initial strike, but the man-beast in front of him began to pant. “So long… since I enjoyed… your ruby nectars… human. Lucky for you… you are selected by my Shovat.” The thing’s hands seemed too large now as it balled them into fists. “But should… you resist… should I have… to stop you… I might get… a taaaasssssste.” The last came out in a near whine, like a wolf begging for a morsel of meat.

At the far edge of the quad, the Talking Man and his other shadow slipped between Persephone and Juno, disappearing between the buildings.

Lucia's eyes widened at the unprovoked attack, her mind racing. They needed time if someone was going to call the police, and this woman was obviously insane. She dropped her cellphone while she was standing next to Sylvia, then darted passed the sword-wielding maniac towards the dorm.

"Then stop me," and she began running in earnest.

Ryan stayed low and creeped out from the bushes moving to shadow the number obsessed kid and his buddy. Despite the wide open flat grounds of the quad Ryan was aided by the encroaching darkness and shadows. He moved as quickly as he dared keep his eyes on the two weird kids and making sure to stay out of their view.

She'd never been stabbed before. For all of her life up until now, there had never been even the remotest thought of being stabbed. The metal - white and cold and hungry - bit into her torso with distressing ease, and seemed almost to pull blood from her as it left.

Hands clasped to the wound and her white shirt showing a spreading crimson stain as she looked down in disbelief, Sylvia sank to her knees, everything but the vicious cut forgotten.

OH FUCKING HELL!!!!

For a moment Thomas was frozen. The maniac really had done it. When Thomas started moving, he was almost immediately torn between tragedy and emergancy. Lucia Blake (it paid for teachers to know the Student Body President) was running past the insane woman, adding to the lunacy. Sylvia Dorn was bleeding, wounded seriously, and on her knees.

He also rapidly assessed his possibilities against the First Wing and it didn't look good. He was out of shape and nearly hopeless wrestling. His strenght was his quick reflexes and ... well that was about it. He didn't have a gun after all, it was in his room.

What he had to do was painful (and likely to become even more painful) but had to be done.

"Sylvia ... shit."

He began running after Lucia. He really had no choice. He was responsible for her because he was a teacher. Funny how they never delve this much into the profession in college. Dodging around the Blade Maiden, Thomas ran after his student.

"Lucia, stop ... this is crazy!"

Oblivious to the escalating madness outside, Renata shook her head at Frida, confusion and...lets face it...worry, maybe even fear, in her eyes.

"So what about YOU?" she demanded. "You're not worried about getting shot? You saw her freaky eyes but you don't even care? What, are you with them or something? Do you know what's going on?"

Blinking dazedly as the strangers departed and the woman was out of sight, Lorelei peered up at Sean with wide eyes.

"Are you sure that's-"

The muffled sound of shouting interrupted her, and she glanced quickly at the door.

"It sounds like someone needs help," the sylph-like girl said worriedly, already heading for the exit.

As Darwin did some of his finest work away from the Ice Cream Social, Deek tweeked the knob on his mic and music piped in across the campus's P.A. system. It was wasn't loud or 'blaring' by any means, just the local Top 40 station piped in so people would have something to dance too...

...he wasn't sure how long it would last, but hey let the drama llamas chase after the LARPers, he couldn't bring himself to care overly much. It's not like people hadn't done weird things on campus before.

"Of course I care, it's most unusual. Why is it that just because I don't start screaming and panicking people thing I'm not concerned about what happens? I've always wondered-"

Frida trailed off as she heard the noise outside too, and saw people heading towards the exit. She stepped over to the window, seemingly abandoning her conversation with Renalta. After a moment, she pulled out her cell phone, dialed, and held it up to her ear.

Relana spun and was running after them, muttering direly in an eloquent, lyrical tongue.

Frida's call was answered by a 911 operator who assured her help was on the way, and advised her to remain inside where it was safe. She should also keep as many of the other kids inside; if there were adults in the building, they should be told about the problem. Under no circumstand should another student leave the building, not if there were dangerous people around cutting up people.

Having exited the building just in time to see Sylvia run through, he couldn't help but make a empathetic sound not unlike Lefty's death scene in Buffy.

"Sylvia!" He shouted, quickly lumbering over to administer what first aid he had learned from watching MASH all those years as a kid, which basically amounted to applying pressure.

As he dropped to his knees, he ripped off his polo, it tearing easily with his adrenaline-boosted strength. Pulling up her clothing, he used the relatively clean shirt to apply pressure to the small crimson fountain.

"Jesus Christ Sylvia! Somebody call 911!" he shouted.

It wasn't supposed to be like this.

He was in his suite, working on the gnome when she knocked on the open door. "May I come in?"

"Sylvia?" Brad said, looking up surprised. "Sure, come in, come in. To what do I owe the pleasure of being graced with such beauty?"

As the words came out of his mouth he became more surprised. Did I just say that out loud?

"We need to talk...about us." She responded coyly.

There's an 'us'?"Of course beautiful, have a seat." What the fuck?

"I think that after what happened last night we should set some ground rules."

"Okay..."

"Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, my suite. Tuesdays, Thursdays, yours. Weekends are up for grabs."

"Guess that means you are up for grabs right now."

"Why..." She said getting up and moving over to him, "Have something in mind?"

"Maybe..." He said, patting his lap invitingly as she sat down. Now this is what I'm talkin' about! Kiss her, kiss her!

"I think I found something that is 'up' for grabs." she said smirking as she simultaneously reached for his pants and moved in to kiss him.

Brad sat up in bed quickly, his sheets soaked with sweat, "Whoa."

Sean heard the shouting outside at the same time as Lorelei did. He inhaled sharply. That doesn't sound good. Do I tell Lorelei to stay here, or stay with me, so I can keep an eye on her? I don't think Streaky is gonna let her go that easily, bullies hate being forced to backdown.

He looked down at Lorelei, his own eyes wide. "Stay behind me Lorelei, just... you know, in case." The attractive couple headed to the exit with restrained haste. "Excuse us, ladies," Sean said as they squeezed pass Frida and Renata, his smile full of assurance. "We're just making sure everyone's okay, but maybe you should close the door behind us, try to keep people calm." He finished speaking over his shoulder.

Once outside the admin building, Sean and Lorelei hustled around the library, to the quad, where the shouting seemed to come from. When they got to the edge of the quad, all Sean noticed was someone on the ground with Mr. Bracks over him or her. He saw no sign of the Strangers.

As Sean and Lorelei got closer, he noticed that the woman on the ground was injured. Shit! They hurt someone, Ms. Dorn. When I see them again, they are so gonna get it! He ran to the two teachers, then dropped to his knees to help Mr. B apply first aid. "What happened? Did Streaky do this!?"

Jason had been about to come up with a put down for the obviously alien being in front of him, but hearing the shout from Brad for 911 he spun to see what was going on. Seeing a person down with only artboy Brad in attendance his duty was clear. Calling back at the creature over his shoulder, "Sod you, I've got wounded to attend to!", he ran to where Brad and now Sean knelt over Sylvia Dorn. Looking around he spots Lorelei still near the entrance of the building, "Miss, get me the first aid box from the closet, 2nd door down on the right."

Addressing the two men with some impatience he moves to help, "Unless you actually have some first aid training I'd get out of my way. Six years in the Army will at least teach you some first aid."

Briefly removing the pad that Brad has put in place he pulls open enough of Sylvia's clothing to get a quick look at the wound then reapplies the pad until someone arrives with a first aid kit when he will try to do a proper job on it.

They were talking quietly as he tailed them, still speaking in that strange language. They reached the end of the long corridor between Persephone and Juno, and suddenly parted ways, the Talking Man turning to walk along Diana's face while his companion began to loop around the nearer end of the building.

Ryan hesitated only a moment before following the Talking Man. The man hopped up Diana's front steps with a graceful ease, slipping into the building. Wondering what the hell he wanted in the girl's dorm, Ryan started to slip after-

Something slammed into the back of his skull and drove him to his knees. Fortunately, his forward motion had turned what could have been a painful, skull-splitting blow into a glancing strike. He was able to get to his feet and spin around. The flunky stood there, having crept back up behind him. Ryan was quietly impressed; it wasn't easy to get the drop on him.

Up close and in the darkness, the thing seem strangely inhuman, the planes of its face or the carriage of its body seeming off. "I will... restrain you... if I must," it said in a voice that sounded like it'd be more comfortable communicating in grunts. "Leave my Master... alone."

No one had gotten far before Relana pulled a small, aerodynamic knife and tossed it as Thomas ran from her. Thomas joined Sylvia as a teacher wounded in the line of duty when the small blade slipped into his upper back, sending him stumbling from the shock.

Thomas was steps away from disappearing between the buildings himself, and Relana hot on his heels.

Sean looked up for a moment, while Jason looked at Ms. Dorn's wound. He saw the Strange Woman take off between House Juno and House Persephone, passing a stumbling Thomas. Oh no! Another injured teacher.

"You can take care of Ms. Dorn, Jason, Mr. Bracks?" he said, getting up and running towards Thomas. "I got some first aid training, I'll go look after Mr. Burke." Hope Lorelei will be quick with that first aid kit.

As Sean passed the alley between House Jupiter and House Juno, a lean, dark shape drew his eye. Fuck! Now what? He looked to Thomas, then back at the shape. Another glance at Thomas, stumbling to a knee, but not looking too bad, and Sean made his decision.

Can't let the thing get to the injured! He stood in the entrance of the passage between the Jupiter and Juno dorms, posture hunched and braced, his arms spread to cover as much of the opening as possible. The thing, perhaps some sort of animal, was running away further down the space between dorms.

Okay, good, it's staying away from the profs. Hopefully any other student is in the social. Well... except for me and Lorelei... and crap! Ryan went out the window, where is he?

Sean's jaw tightened with supressed worry, not sure what the best course of action should be.

After a brief nod at Jason, Lorelei darted off to retrieve a first aid kit. She could feel her heart thumping in her chest and taste the fear of mortal injury at the back of her throat. She hadn't seen Thomas, but Ms. Dorn... She had never seen so much blood.

Someone had been stabbed, at Dalton Academy. Wasn't that the sort of thing that happened in urban public schools? Not here. At least, that's what she'd always thought. It was quiet at Dalton, a safe haven from the madness that infected the rest of the world, but no more. Violence had defiled the near-sanctity of her vision of the place, and yet she couldn't help but wonder what these people were thinking.

Normally rational, intelligent people- students and faculty alike- had apparently lost all reason. Even as unworldly as she was, Lorelei could simply find no sane excuse for why people were chasing, threatening, and chastising someone who carried a sword.

She shook her head grimly as she dashed into the building and located the supplies they would need to help the wounded. Things seemed to be rapidly spiralling out of control, and there was nothing she could do about it. After another quick glance about the room to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything, Lorelei clasped the medical kit to her chest and rushed back out into the insanity.

After Frida hung up the phone, she saw other students passing through the door and outside. As each one of them passed, she tried to stop them with reason.

"The 911 operator said we should stay inside.. you probably shouldn't go out there, it's dangerous."

But of course her quiet, unobtrusive voice was mostly ignored, and after a moment she sighed, and gave up, stepping outside herself. After glancing around to see if any of the people nearby looked dangerous, she moved close enough to the confusion that she could be heard, without hovering close enough to get in anyone's way who knew what they were doing.

"Mr. B, I called the emergency line a few minutes ago, hopefully they'll be here very soon. Is there anything else I can do?"

"Ryan, if you're back there, head back to the quad," Sean yelled as loud as he could. "Same for anyone else back there. Stay away from whoever is poking holes in people."

Watching the thing run down to the end of the passage between dorms, Sean noticed two figures at the entrance to House Diana. One was Lackey the Right (or maybe Left) and the other, he wasn't sure. It could have been Ryan, and the thing was heading straight for him.

SHIT! Sean tore up the pass, trying to catch-up to the thing, but it was too fast. "Get out of the way, Ryan or whoever you are, go left around Jupiter, get back to the quad."

The man didn't see through his feint until it was too late, leaving him trying to catch up. Ryan grinned, pleased, reaching for the door of Diana.

Sean's shout caught his attention, and at the same time, he heard the sound of something running on all fours. He turned and was startled to see the other flanker, the man who had disappeared earlier, running at him like an animal. Worse, there were a lot of teeth in the 'man's' grinning mouth, teeth Ryan could see clearly at it bounded up the steps and curled its lips back. He'd seen that before; it's the grimace that a dog makes as it gets its fleshy bits out of the way of its teeth.

He couldn't move quite fast enough to jump away. The impact of it hitting him rocked him backwards, but worse was that pain in his thigh. Ryan had been hurt worse, but there was a certain terror in having something he'd thought was human chomping on his leg with pointed teeth.

Renata stayed where she was, staring at Frida speechlessly. She didn't know what to say to her...but she felt embarrassed that it was she that'd had the presence of mind to call the police. Maybe there was something to being all Spockian after all.

When Frida headed outside, Renata paused, then got to her feet and cautiously followed her. She was still scared, of course, but both the sting of Frida outdoing her and the persistent curiosity pulled her forward.

On seeing the teacher...no, teachers...down, fear surged again though. Seeing the sword was one thing, but the thought of someone actually USING a sword... It seemed impossible! Renata had never even SEEN a real sword being used outside of cheesy movies. Even the swords in fencing were just stupid bendy metal rods with little balls on the tip.

"Holy shit," she breathed. "This is CRAZY."

The thing's jaws clamped onto his leg tearing through skin and puncturing muscle. Ryan yelled out in agony even as he shook the thing off his leg. Realizing that he was in no position to fight these things he too two steps and leapt onto the handrail. From there he jumped toward the building and rebounded off the brick and mortar vaulting onto the overhang that sheltered the entrance. Two more steps and he jumped up and caught a second floor window's stone framing and used it to swing out to the drainpipe. Hand over hand Ryan climbed the downspout and then vaulted onto the building's roof. The whole maneuver took little more than three seconds, taking Ryan out of the reach of either of these strange beings. Ryan saw the young football player charging down the grass towards the dorm, "Dammit Sean, run AWAY!!!"

Seeing Ryan monkey his way up to the second floor, and out of immediate danger, Sean reversed course and headed back to the quad. "Stay outta their way Ryan!" He keep an eye open over his shoulder, making sure the thing and Lackey the Right (or Left) stayed away.

Seeing that Lorelei made it back with the first aid kit, Sean headed to where Thomas was a moment ago, to help him. But when he got there he didn't see him. Looking down the passage between Juno and Persephone, he saw him chasing down Lucia. But chasing down Thomas was the White Woman and Holy shit! She has a sword! "Run! Go right around Persephone, get back to the quad," He yelled at the injured teacher and student president. "There's something biting people in front of Diana!." Ryan shook his head as Sean skidded into a turn an ran back towards the quad. He peered down over the edge of the slanted roof, trying to maintain his precarious position on the slate roof. The material made it difficult, the 20% pitch made it dangerous. Luckily Ryan's sneakers held a good grip and he was able to crab walk to an open third floor window and then swing down off the roof and into the dorm's TV room below. The TV was on so he flicked it off plunging the floor into quiet. Ryan moved out into the hall and stopped to listen, hoping he could hear Mr. Numbers and track him down.

"You'll be fine, Ms. Dorn," Lorelei smiled shakily, kneeling next to the older woman. "I think someone's already called 911, and I'm sure they're on their way." The doubt in her voice was underscored with a fearful tremolo, despite her best attempt to project calm certainty in the face of such madness. The crimson flower blooming in the instructor's side looked smaller, less significant beneath several layers of gauze, but the petite sophomore still did her level best to focus on Sylvia's face.

"Everything is going to be fine," she murmured, as much to herself as to the wounded teacher.

Micah walks out of the social slowly, looking around the campus. Spotting Frida, he walks over towards her, while scanning around the environment. His face is creased with worry, and his eyes dart from shadow to shadow. He notices the teacher down on the ground, and veers off, breaking into a jog, heading towards the small group working on her. He hears the shouts coming from further away as he approaches the group. When he hears Sean's voice, he starts heading towards the far side of Persephone dorm, so that if Sean is chasing something, Micah may be able to blindside it.

I'm moving Lucia forward a bit to keep the chapter moving. If she comes back before anyone else posts and wants it changed, I'll revise this.

As if fleeing from her, the two hounds turned and dashed away, disappearing around the far end of Diana. Lucia considered her options, but the teachers were safe - except for Mr. Burke, who had followed her. Thinking quickly, Lucia pulled out her key and used it on the secondary entrance of Juno, which locked from the outside. As Mr. Burke rounded the corner behind her, Lucia was holding the door, calling, "Quick, in here!"

"Sean! Go back!" Thomas yelled as he ducked in after the girl. He was aware that he was breaking the rules by being in the forbidden girl's dorm, but he really didn't care. His back ached something fierce.

Seeing them break off the chase, their mysterious pursuer did the same. Instead, she turned to face Sean, adjusting her stance when Micah appeared. "Stop this chase," she said, slightly out of breath, "and I'll leave without further blood." That pale sword was still bare in her hand, while the other hand held a slim knife, posed to be thrown.

Seeing Lucia and Thomas duck into House Juno, Sean skidded to a stop, a hand touching the ground to keep his balance. Huh, well that works too.

He stood up and braced himself, trying to cover as much of the pass between houses as he could. "Go then, that's all we want," Sean said, throat swallowing with barely supressed fear. Fuck, fuck, shit, fuck, crap. She has a damned sword! "We never wanted any blood flying."

Slowly, Sean stepped back towards the quad, stormy eyes never leaving the White Woman.

“Very well,” Relana said, backing away carefully. As Sean watched, she ducked between House Lancaster and House Diana, heading in the direction that he’d seen the Bizarro Twins heading last. Nervously, Sean retreated back to the safety of the quad and his classmates and teachers.

Lucia and Mr. Burke moved through Juno, exiting back out onto the quad. By now, the back of his shirt was soaked with his own blood and Thomas really wanted to just lie down for a while. Every movement just made his back hurt worse.

Sylvia was barely awake, forced to retain consciousness because those tending to her didn’t stop pestering her. She just wanted to lie down, maybe take a nap.

Ryan crept quickly through House Diana, not hearing or seeing anything out of the ordinary. Whatever the Talking Jerk’s purpose had been here, he’d finished it quickly. Ryan finished his illicit snoop through the girl’s dorm and eased back outside, once he was sure that the crazy people were gone outside. From there, he arrived at the quad just as the ambulance did. The EMTs were unamused by the three injured people waiting for them, including one who still had a knife in his back. But the cops who came were even less amused by the whole thing, and they went off looking for the intruders with a vengeance. No one felt good about their empty-handed return.

They didn’t have enough room for all the injured. Thomas and Sylvia were deemed the most critical and ended up together in the ambulance. Ryan was loaded into a police cruiser with a temporary bandage on his bite.

Then the Headmaster showed up, and the entire situation got worse. All of the students there were noted, and he said he’d be speaking with them later. No doubt, that meant nothing good.

After security had swept every dorm, the campus was locked down for the rest of the night; students were escorted by security to their Houses in small groups. Security would be on High-alert, and long after the dorms were secured against intruders, the students could see the guards’ flashlights bouncing in the dark, seeking any sign of the intruders.

But there was no stopping what had already been put into motion.
