(OOC: This thread is for Sam (Forge's PC))

Her senses spread through the electronics of the car bypassing any security it had installed and ignited the engine. It had been ages since she felt herself free of any restraints or the mindnumbing pain her captors had enforced on her.

The car accelerated while she tried to access the installed GPS-system but It failed to find any satellites though. All radio-stations were dead except for one frequencies that transmitted a repeating message.

"You have entered a militarized zone. Any civilian is asked to turn and leave for the next US-Controlled City. The City of Las Vegas is put under general state of emergencies. Martial Law has been declared by the government."

At least she knew she was in Las Vegas now. The attack had already commenced.

"No time!" she yelled at the dash, her voice still hoarse from lack of use.

Vegas had changed much in the last three years and it took awhile before she found her bearings. She had been forced to stop once at the top of a rise and look out, but once she found a familiar landmark, Sam floored it, speeding through town towards her parent's.

Given that the streets were eerily quiet and there was no traffic, it wasn't long before the sports car had pulled up to the gate of a large house, a large real estate sign beckoning would-be buyers with a 'territorial view'.

"NOOO!" Sam screamed, the gate nearly jumping off its track as it was slammed aside, the motor burnt out in its final effort.

The car raced down the short cobblestone driveway, swirving to avoid a small marble fountain it screeched to a halt in front of the steps where a small placard declared an 'Open House Coming Soon'.

Sam quickly exited the car, leaving it to run as she ran up the steps to the double wood doors, pounding on them.

Getting nothing but echos in response, she noticed the key lockbox hanging from the doorknob, and with barely a thought it popped open, revealing the key to the house inside.

The door swung open easily as Sam rushed in, the furniture much the same as it was when she left, though dusty. Sam left footprints as she searched the house in a near panic, looking for any clues.

The house was abandoned and looked like it was left behind in a hurry. Her mother wouldn’t have left the house in “such a mess” which would be by normal standards representable. But to Sam’s keen eyes she sensed something was wrong.

She checked briefly the rooms on ground floor before she headed upstairs to her room. Everything was just like she remembered. As if the house had been abandoned the day she got kidnapped.

"Jackpot!" she cried, jumping to her desk, ignoring everything but her laptop, it was antiquated now, but it would serve its purpose.

Pushing the power button more out of habit than necessity, she used the short time it took to boot to find clothes that were still wearable and to change out of the jumpsuit.

As she finished dressing, she simultaneously tried to bring up the internet and the last recorded images from the house security cameras, glancing at the screen as she hopped on one foot pulling up the green argyle socks.

The old machine did as expected and took ages to finally accept any commands by her operator. Sam barely touched the keyboard accessing the information she needed. The images of the cameras have been deleted unfortunately. The work was professionally done because she had no chance to find any backup material in any buffered sections of the hard-disk.

The internet proved to be a reliable source for all kinds of information though. As she had already expected the attack was in full charge. Every large city with MICs was under attack and the capitals of the world’s leading nations, too. Considering the time frame Sam guessed that by the end of next week the attackers would be successful unless a miracle happened…

"Shit. You should---we...we! We should have been more resourceful." Sam slammed her hand on the desk.

"You're not one of them!" Sam's hands flew across the keyboard even has her mind was controlling its own search, looking for information on her parents and their whereabouts as well as the state of defenses.

Considering the modus operandi of her captors chances were high that her parents were still alive. The question was in which condition. Sam knew that the machines and the aliens controlling them used humans to power their robots. Mutants were more resourceful but humans had been used, too.

They had carefully kept her away from any source that could reveal to her the whereabouts of her parents. The base on the Moon could be one place, she excluded the ship she commanded since their presence wouldn’t have slipped her attention.

She needed more reliable sources of information. Preferably the aliens network – but how could she make sure they didn’t take control of her again. Whatever broke the mental control on her she had no idea what was the cause for it. There were no immediate answers to her questions so that had to wait, too.

Sam accessed as much information as she could about the current state of Defense. The United States where on Defcon 5. According to the plan she reviewed the last time it would take another week for the aliens to assume control of the defensive mechanisms of Earths leading governments. Then the earth would be defenceless against the real invasion.

Who could help her? Was there hope?

"Gah!" She yelled in frustration, standing up quickly.

She started pacing across her room, as the laptop continued to display images around the world. Need their help, but what to do? Can that bunch of misfits really do this? They were scared of 'em. Do I have a choice?

Sam sighed as she stopped and the laptop went dark.

She grabbed her old satchel and stuffed the laptop in it before grabbing her backpack and throwing changes of clothes in it as well as her jumpsuit.

Still running on the adrenaline high, she left the house, making sure to lock it behind her but took the key. Sam hopped in the still running car and headed off, back towards the school.

The car brought her back to the school in no time. The streets were still empty and there were no blockades on her route.

At the school Sam quickly sneaked back in and found the mutants who rescued her all fast asleep. Maybe she should get some rest herself and talk to them in the morning, she surely felt extremely exhausted herself.
