Aberrant: Stargate Universe - Nightcap [Complete]

Something in Olivia relaxed. She'd wanted to know if he'd done it, and she'd wanted the answer to be 'no'. "I'm stealing another beer," she told him, following him back to the couch. She sat next to him on the couch this time and handed it to him to twist open.

"So," she asked before taking another swallow, "do you get to blow up a lot of buildings for the SG?"

Vinny grunted noncommitally as she swiped another beer and opened it when it was offered.

More friendly when she knows backup's comin'.

"No...not really. Mostly, I keep the shit from fallin' down."

Olivia's proximity confused Vinny, why did she choose to sit against me when she could have taken the chair? What exactly was said in that conversation she had?

"You plan on getting to write a lot of books for the SGC?"

Olivia grimaced and took a drink. She pulled her feet up under her again as she said, "Kinda. I imagine I'll get to write a lot of stuff for the brass, but I don't know that it'll ever see the light of day. I mean, my dad's a history buff, and he'd majorly geek out about all of this, but what are the odds that it'll be released in his lifetime?

"I'm doing this... being on an SG team is about reaching out and touching history," she said. "It's bizarre history, but it's all I have." Her face fell and she frowned. "I've pretty much destroyed my credibility in the world outside SG, because I backed Daniel's theories. I mean, I bought them and tried to sell them, and then got the rug ripped out from under. So, I guess, no, I'm not planning on getting to write books. Probably long reports, at best."

"You could do fiction." Vinny said as he leaned in a bit, resting his arm out on the back of the couch as he turned to face her.

"Ever hear of 'Wormhole Extreme'? What do you think that shit came from? Assuming you took some creative license, you might get some books out under a pen name."

Vinny paused to take a drink, which for him meant half the bottle.

"You could then suggest strongly for your Dad to read them." he shrugged, then finished off the brew.

"Might work," Olivia said with a little smile. She was very aware of his arm and how close - he could grab you - he was to her. "He's rather picky about what he reads, though, so maybe not. He's kind of a history snob. I told him about Daniel's research, and we... I won't say fought, but we didn't reconcile our differences. He didn't like my book, the one I wrote supporting Daniel, even after I found some proof for my statements. When it all went down, when the book was rejected and my proof disappeared into Area 51, I think he was relieved that I would get back to 'real' research.

"And then, I became a government employee, and part of the problem." She stopped and shook her head. "Sorry. I talk too much. This is about as interesting as raw tofu, especially for a guy who blows up buildings for a job." She put on a dazzling smile. "Hey, if you get to blow a building up in the future, can I come and watch?"

"Under-seasoned...not raw...but definitely under-seasoned." Vinny joked, a broad smirk appearing around his cigar.

Noting the smile, "Prolly can be arranged yeah, but don't hold yer breath. Haven't knocked anything down in over a year."

Vinny got up, going to the kitchen yet again, this time he brought back a six pack of bottles, the other two remaining bottles from the first in his other hand. He sat back down on the couch, setting the beer on the table.

"Tired of getting up and down. Though, don't know why I bother..." he sighed, twisting the cap off a beer and 'snapping' it at the wet bar.

"Under-seasoned?" Olivia said, laughing a little. "But I haven't told about my thrilling doctorate disseration on the influence of the Muslim culture on the nomadic tribes of Northern Africa! You'll change your opinion of me in no time!"

She shrugged a little, still grinning. "I'm the kind of girl only a geek could love," she said, circling her thumb around the neck of her bottle. "Boring and brainy." And there was a certain comfort in that for her.

She cleared that bottle and set it on the table, stretching way out so that could make it. "You don't get drunk anymore?" she asked. "At all?" She was aware of a certain soft warmth passing through her muscles right now, though that could have been coming off the adrenaline as much as the several drinks she'd had. Just to be sure she did get a nice buzz, she grabbed another beer, passing it to Vinny to open for her. She wasn't going to rip her hands up doing it. "Thanks, I owe you some booze now.

"Hey... You know... you should do two at once," she told him sagely before tipping back some beer.

"Save that thrilling tale for when I can't sleep." Vinny said sarcastically. He hesitated as he was raising the bottle to take a drink, as if thinking about what he just said.

That's any night dumbass.

"Hardly boring, after a few missions, you won't even think you're boring." he said, draining yet another beer.

He was taking the cap off his next as she asked about his amazing resistance to alcohol. "Nope, I've tried....believe me, I've tried."

Two at once? Like you and Kyria?

Vinny laughed, "Two at once eh? Is that a challenge?"

The sly look said he was up for it. Two beers was nothing compared to chugging a bottle of vodka. He grabbed another beer and twisted the cap off, 'snapping' it at the wet bar in a practiced motion.

Now Olivia wished she were a telepath. There were thoughts going on in that head that she had no way of accessing, and the idea of peeking in was intriguing. "Well... to be honest, I did almost tag Declan - Sgt. Perrault, in one of our exercises. I was this close." She held up a hand, showing him fingers about an inch apart. "And I was the last to go down on my side. And I kicked him in the knee once."

She considered a moment, then nodded, pretending a solemnness she didn't feel. "It is a challenge, sir, a most grave one," she said, only the twinkle in her eyes giving away her mirth. "You must consume two ales at once, and must not stop or spill a drop! Are you up to this challenge?"

"Quite the list of accomplishments in so short a time. You should be proud."

She's fucking sauced.

"What's my prize if I do?" Vinny had quite the shit-eating grin going on. If he had gone this far, might as well see how far he could chase the white rabbit before he got his head lopped off.

Olivia had a half-decent buzz, and she quickly finished off her beer to keep it going. This loosely-goosey feel was wonderful; she hadn't let her hair down in a while. And after her family - though she loved them - she was ready to party a little. Too bad she was partying alone with a jerk who couldn't get drunk.

She thought a second, literally. "I know," she said, grinning. "I'll give you a favor, just like a lady to her knight. But you have to let me borrow this shirt until I return to base, m'kay?"

Vinny had never wished himself drunk more than he was now. It felt wrong to sit here and watch her get shit-faced and all he was doing was putting undue pressure on his liver.

"Sounds like agreeable terms fair maiden." Vinny said standing up.

He made a small bow to Olivia, holding a drink in each hand. He took a quick unneccessary look around to make sure he had clearance, playing up the performance. At the last minute he realized he still had the cigar in his mouth and set the beer down briefly to drop it in the bone ash tray on the table.

Don't fuckin' blow this.

"Ok, here come the Pan Pipes."

Vinny leaned back and tipped up both bottles quickly. He gulped loudly, taking the beers in five quick swallows, he seemed practiced at this.

"Ta-da." Vinny said, displaying both empty bottles to Olivia just as he let out a loud belch.

Olivia was giggling before he was done. "Oh, my... that belch was kinda gross though. I understand... beer brings the burps." She sobered up enough to nod and say, "And now for your prize."

Her arms lifted as her fingers started to pull at the knot of her shirt on the back of her neck. The ties fell apart with a whisper of fabric, falling over the collar of the shirt. Grinning at the bald shock on Vinny's face, Olivia pulled her arms into his shirt. "I have nothing up my sleeves, sir," she said, as she pulled the ties inside the shirt.

To Vinny, there was a lot of wiggling and moving around, while Olivia made goofy faces of faux concentration as she worked. "A ha!" she said suddenly. Her arms wiggled back into the sleeves, and she said, "Hold out your hand." When he did, she dropped the silver bangle from the front of her shirt - the one that had reminded Damien Caine of a rifle sight just a few hours ago - into his waiting fingers. "There you go."

Olivia looked way too pleased with herself at that moment.

Vinny just stood there, his mouth gaping wide for a moment.

"Need to sit down." Vinny turned and sat back into the couch, a look of disbelief still on his face, though now it was being kept up in jest.

That was...soooo fucking hot.

"You dirty little tease." Vinny said smiling as he turned to her. "Not such a good girl are you?"

He looked down at the bangle, already deciding what pocket it would go to in his BDU's. This was the least guarded he had been since before his team died, something had finally broken through the grief and he was genuinely enjoying himself. Perhaps this was the real Vinny?

"I don't exactly have a lot of stuff to offer as a favor," Olivia admitted, grinning. The front of her shirt had fallen without the ties to hold it up, and her bare skin was rubbing the soft interior of her shirt. It was a little distracting, but more so was the way the shirt was hanging.

"Hang on," she muttered, standing up with just the slightest of sway. She reached up under her shirt and performed that time-honored trick that women have: removing a tight under garment with out flashing a watching guy. She had to shimmy her hips back and forth to get the shirt over them, and she didn't seem to realize how that looked. Once it was clear of her thighs, she dropped the shirt and stepped out of it. "There. Much better."

The door rattled with a sudden knock. Olivia frowned just a little, then shrugged and said, "Looks like Athens is here. I'll get my shoes."

Oh yeah darlin', that's how I like it.

The knocking on the door signaled the end of the evening, if not the end of personal freedom for Vinny.

Not one to let any chance go by..."Its open." he yelled at the door.

The resulting crash as a body thumped into the door sent Vinny laughing as he walked to the door, opening it to a very unhappy looking Major Pain.

He was in control. He was ready to take Olivia out of there and get them all back to base. The crucifixion would come later.

No answer.

He knocked louder and sure enough the door opened. At least Lt. Wright wasn't zipping up his pants or something typical like that for the total scumbag.

He felt the anger rise and let it disapate. This was no time for anger. It was time to set thing back on their proper course, not burn bridges - no matter how much they deserved burning. There, enough of that.

"Lt. Wright, I'm here for Specialist Jenings-Izumi."

Caine looked down at on Wright because Wright deserved to be looked down upon. Starting a fight to get the girl ... that was pretty low. Now he knew what to expect from the Lieutenant.

Seeing Olivia in Vinny's shirt didn't help that assessment any.

"Ok," Olivia said, ignoring Vinny's broad smirks at her and Caine - though mostly at Caine. "Just a second, Major." She scooped her shirt up off the floor, half-thinking she'd have to get another sparkly for the shirt - assuming that she'd ever wear it again. Right now, the odds of that weren't good.

Moving to Vinny's side, she braced herself and slipped an arm around his waist, giving him a sideways hug. She felt a little tug of trepidation when he leaned down, but he just kissed the top of her head, about the least possessive gesture he could make, yet a gesture all the same. She shot him a dirty look; she wasn't a battle field or a scoreboard for him to use to keep points against Caine. She missed the sincerity that Vinny had put into it. "Thanks for the beer and the bathroom," she said before pulling away from him.

She nodded at Caine. "Ready, sir."

Caine nodded to her and looked her over with his eyes. When she had moved past them,

"0800 hours Lieutenant - about the fight. You've been accussed of starting it and I will get to the bottom of it. People were hospitalized, I have no doubt."

He turned and followed Olivia to the car. Seeing that she as a tinsy bit wobbly, Caine moved ahead of her and got her door. He didn't look back at Vinny. What was the point?

Caine moved around to the driver's side again, started the car up - without the keys - and headed out of the parking lot.

"Olivia, are you okay?" he managed to get out in his still, calm voice. "How did it go with the Lt?"
