Caine waits for Gwyn to exit before entering the room for himself. He marvels at the effort that went into this and almost weeps to see some of the works on the bricks they have broken down to get inside.

If someone wanted to piece these together, they could mount another expedition. The Major got out of the way to let Jaunt do his assigned task. He wanted to stay to see the artist's work unfold, but with him, Jaunt, and Olivia in the room all together, that was one person too many.

In the hallway,

"Gwyn, take a rest and restore your batteries. We are going to be here for a while."

Then he pulled out an energy bar and ate it, grit and all.

Olivia worked on her task doggedly, ignoring tiredness, thirst and a growling stomach. The only thing that broke her concentration was the alarm for her breathing filter, which she quickly changed and went back to work. It was engrossing work for her, and she ignored her own needs in her attempt to capture everything on her chosen mediums.

Caine would find himself disappointed if he was eager to see the 'artist's work'. Jaunt set about making use of the digital imaging equipment, taking snapshots and whatnot.

He took pictures. He didn't know of what, and certainly hadn't received training on what to look for to identify what was important. I clicked off images for those who knew what they were doing to review later.

It wasn't what he was looking for, but at least he was doing something. This wasn't the time to try and make things clear to him either. That would come later.

When the job was done, Caine was sure he would have to drag Livy out. It was time to go. Their equipment had a definite shelf life, and this wasn't the shelf.

"Okay you two, wrap it up."

"Gwyn, the first two out will be the Sergaent and the Doctor. Jaunt and I will be on the second lift and the sled on the third. We are going to hoof it out of her. Jones will fly cover while Dec and Juant pull the sled. Olivia and I will hitch a ride."

"Questions, suggestions? Good, let's go."

He was grinning inside his mask. Caine was sure everyone wanted off this hell hole. Well, mabye Livy wanted to stay in the chamber, but that would get old when the filters ran out.

The trip back was no less arduous than the trip to the mountains. It seemed just as long, because the anticipation of getting out of the harsh environment and getting a shower were so strong. In fact the trip back took nearly an hour less thanks to making a straight course toward the signal being broadcast by the malp parked just this side of the gate.

When the team finally did arrive back in the SGC it was indeed a great relief to remove the hoods and breath clean air. It also helped that there was a crew ready with shop vacs to suck as much of the sand and dust off your uniforms as possible. That was followed by a quick spray of disinfectant chemicals.

That was followed by turning in the gear that had been checked out, then showers, then the mandatory trip to the infirmary to be checked out.

Once all that was done O'Neill was waiting in the briefing room. He gave the team a grin as they filed in and took weary or not so weary seats depending on abilities. "Welcome home from your first mission. Major a summary please?"

Jaunt, the entire trip and then some, continued to replay what he;d seen in the caves in his mind. Something didn't seem right and the more he thought about it the more it bothered him.

Since he had showered and been to his quarters to change he'd added several things to his sketch book, nothing that would win awards, but quick sketches that outlined several of the unique things he saw while there, things that his mind could not let go of.

As they sat in the briefing room Jaunt poured over his sketch book as well as several of the images he took with the camera, comparing. This whole thing had nothing to do with him anyway, everyone in the room was far superior to him in every way so associating with them was a moot point. Those present could have asked him a hundred questions and he wouldn't have responded, his mind was more engrossed in his sketch book and the images he captured.

Whatever it was he felt he was onto he hadn't found it yet, and it was bugging the ever-loving snot out of him.

C'mon, c'mon... talk to me. I know you have an answer for me...

Besides, it was the awesome people's problem to deal with the O'Neill, not Jaunt's.

He's not fitting in. He doesn't want to fit in. He doesn't want to commit to the team in it needs to be done, only in the way he wants it done. What am I going to do?

Major Caine begins the briefing for the General, highlighting Specialist's Jones and Jenings-Izumi roles in the mission. Declan would have his day in the sun soon, no doubt about it. When it came down to Jaunt, he gave his no shit assessment. The young man had potential, but he had his flaws too. In the end, Caine had to say he was a detriment to the synergy of the team.

They weren't his team. They weren't doing what needed to be done for him, and as the Team Leader, it was his duty to do what was necessary for the survival and health of his people - Jaunt too.

"I think for all his abilities, Specialist Jaunt's direction is not the same as the rest of SG-21, General O'Neil."

Damien felt like he was being unfair. He also knew how he felt sending Gwyn out into the storm to find the boy. Team came first.

Olivia was tired. She hadn't done that much, it seemed, but the more she considered, the more she realized she hadn't taken care of herself on this mission. She hadn't rested, she hadn't eaten, had barely drank. She'd been hard on herself.

Lesson learned.

She sat quietly through the debriefing, smiling when Major Caine acknowledged her part. It was nice to be recognized. She needed to talk to Caine later about her performance; she was sure she could have done better. It was the time for performance reviews, because about that time, Caine started on Jaunt's. When Olivia realized where it was going, she tried to sink into her chair. They were on a team, and therefore things like this were a matter of the team, but Olivia didn't want to see this. On some level, Caine's conclusions were right. Jaunt wasn't a team player and that was dangerous to the rest of the team.

She jumped when he 'ported away, just in time to catch streamers of black light she hadn't seen before. She looked at O'Neill and Caine, waiting for their reactions, trying to judge if she should be concerned or not.

O'Neill frowned at the empty seat then looked back at Major Caine. "Noted. I will review your detailed report tomorrow and make a decision on the matter. Speaking of discipline, I have word from the hospital in Colorado Springs that none of the injuries sustained by those admitted were life threatening. They weren't pretty, and I'm not happy with your teams involvement. Major Carter covertly used a Goa'uld healing device on a couple of the people to bring their injuries down to the point that no one will file charges. That should not have been necessary." He scowled at everyone present.

"I will chalk this one up to you being unfamiliar with your new abilities and I will not put anything on your permanent records, however, you will be confined to base for for the next two weeks, and aside from your regular duties, I want you to make yourselves available to Major Carter to make it up to her for having to clean up your mess." As he saw that everyone looked contrite the scowl lessened to a frown.

"Now since you are back somewhat ahead of schedule I assume you achieved your goals? Tell me what you found."

Major Caine remained at attention, not moving even when Jaunt fled the room. It was a problem for another time, and was most likely something no longer on his plate. Caine had to admit he was relieved. He wasn't a babysitter.

"We found a room full of what we speculate are new addresses, Sir. It was unavoidable that we had to ruin one wall of the chamber in order to get inside, for there were further addresses on it. We speculate that one of Ra's priest broke away from the System Lord and scrawled all he knew upon the chamber he was sealed inside. We have his remains and that of the Zat he carried. The Zat detonated once we removed it from the chamber and it was determined we couldn't repair the damage time had done to it."

"We have multiple recordings of the room as well as Specialist's Jenings-Izumi's mental record of all she saw. We also have the site detailed in our maps in case another expidition is warrented."

Dec sat up a little straighter as the General addressed the fight situation, relief plain on his face as he heard there were no fatalities. That relief changed to a slight frown as O'Neill seemed to be laying all of this on SG21's doorstep. He almost spoke up, but stopped. This wasn't the time.

*What the fuck do you mean: "this ain't the time"? You gonna sit there like a fuckin' dumbass and let US take the shit for Wright's temper?

This ain't the time. We'll collar Caine afterwards and talk to him, he'll take it to the General. That's protocol. Besides, it was US did most of the worst of that fight.

*That's fuckin' BULLSHIT! Grow a pair, you asshole! Wright started the fight then ran off with Livy in the chaos and laughed all the way into her pants! She was fuckin' flirtin' with him this morning at breakfast, her big gruff hero who saved her from the nasty bar fight! The guy's a fuckwad.*

Later. He'll get his in time. We have to follow the right-

*No way. I'm not lettin' that fragile-ass meatsack O'Neill lay this shit on us. Get the fuck outta the way!*

NO! Not HERE you-

The sergeant abruptly stood, his face set differently under the shades from a moment before. Gone was the laid-back, almost shy body language. This Declan seemed different, almost vibrating with predatory aggression that set of warning bells in everyone, but most especially Olivia. The Doctor's fear was confirmed when Perault removed his shades and casually tossed them onto the table before leaning forwards, placing his hands on the surface and staring at O'Neill. The formerly dead-silver eyes seemed alive, terribly so. A strange light seemed to dance in the mercury depths as 'Declan' spoke.

"Beggin' the General's pardon, but I got somethin' to say here. It's bullshit that this is OUR mess. I saw what happened and how the fight was started: it was an SG special team member, but it weren't no-one from '21, sir." The voice was a low, menacing growl, and utterly unlike Declan's normal tone as he flashed a knife-edged grin. "It was that cigar-chewing asshole Wright. He smacked some cow-fucker around the head with a bottle, and I'm damn sure the hick didn't swing first. Wright didn't look like a man recoverin' from a punch."

Caine leans very slightly forward, barely maintaining a shudder of anger and disappointment. Now wasn't the time.

"General, I have been looking into this matter. I will have a report ready for you ASAP, with written affidavits from two of my people who witnessed Lt. Wright's actions."

"I apologize for the outburst."

There was nothing he could do but pray that this worked. Declan had been holding it together so well on the mission. What could have come loose in that man's head. This wasn't like Perault at all.

Gwyn knew enough about the military to keep his mouth shut, especially in light of what the Major had already said, but he did nod to the Major while he recovered Dec's glasses from where they had slid across the table. He looks at Dec with some surprise and calculation while Olivia is whispering to him, then passes his glasses back to him, "In case you want these later."

Click to reveal..

Awareness roll to see if he hears what Olivia whispers. 7 dice

'Dec' visibly relaxed at whatever Olivia whispered, the light in his eyes fading a little as his hard-edged expression became softer. He looked at her almost resentfully as he sank back into his seat.

"Shit, Livy. I weren't gonna hurt any-" Then the voice faltered and Dec rubbed his face with both hands, slumping in the chair as he did so.

"Aww fuck..." he muttered under his breath before reaching over and grabbing his shades, slipping them on. "Sorry, General sir. Sorry, Major. I, uh, had to.. um... yeah."

Olivia rested her hand on Declan's shoulder, a gesture that was protective and comforting. A hundred things could be said right now, things that might make the situation better, were this anything other than a military setting. Fortunately, as a civilian, Olivia had a bit more leeway.

"General, if I may... I can compile a report about the addresses found," she said evenly, as if Declan's outburst had never happened. "I can compare them to the addresses we already have; I've done this a bit in my head already, but I haven't learned all the addresses yet, so a complete report isn't possible. But I'd be happy to do one immediately, sir. I could have it in a day or two." She smiled prettily as she finished.

"We are already confined to base, Sergaent. We'll deal with this later," He directed to Perualt without turning around.

"General, are we dismissed?"

There was no hint of anger in his voice, and Caine tried to keep a tight clamp down on his concern. The General had to believe that the Major could rely on each and every man on his team. Declan and Olivia had some explaining to do.

The general's eyes narrowed at Declan's outburst and he did not show any signs of fear. This was a man that had faced death enough times not to shrink from it no matter how imminent. He remained silent waiting to see what the sergeant would do and did not entirely relax through the rest of the conversation. Once the Major asked to be dismissed, he finally took his eyes off Declan and looked to Caine, "I will be interested in reading your report regarding the incident in town." Looking to Olivia, "See Major Carter and Dr Jackson regarding the gate addresses, they can provide you with a complete list of all addresses for you to compare to. I will expect your report on Wednesday. Dismissed."
