Intensely interested in potential downsides of their "condition", Steve moved closer to listen better to Omar.

"Yes, it is, and yes, they do. But with you, there are no hard feelings." He looks up at Omar, and shakes his head. "No one has mentioned anything like that. They all seem afraid of them, but haven't told me anything besides 'They're probably a side effect of the artifact's process.' Any light you can shed would be welcome."

Omar was please by the receptiveness of his teammembers when he mentioned the Lt's eyes.

"As Novas, at least that is the name we have used to call what we are, can channel quantum energies. Our bodies are not efficient vessels for quantum energies and the human body reacts in strange ways to it. Your eyes are what we call an 'aberration'. It is a side effect from your body's exposure to quantum energy." Omar watched for any shock or concern from his teammates. After another pause he continued.

"Most normal people will react poorly to physical aberrations, as it makes us look inhuman. Such is the case with your eyes. It is probably more so here, as Nova are new and people are not accustomed to such things."

Omar stopped what he was doing an looked at all those around him. "Taint is what it is called and you need to be very wary. As we grow in power, we will find that taint will begin to affect us all. Some of us will never have any problems with it. Others will suffer with levels so extreme that they can barely funtion at all, and in some cases, they lose all of their humanity and become nothing more than crazed mutated creatures. Sadly, they have to be put down because they will cause untold destruction."

"Yes....They are just the start." Omar's voice was flat and unemotional. "Aside from the physical and mental aberrations, you can't tell. And from what we understood, you could pick up low levels of taint and show no ill effects. Obviously, Lt. Jacobs has a bit more, though he is not 'going to grow horns' any time soon." I hope.

Omar started peddling again. "As for what can be done? Son't push yourself unless you have to. These powers are not toys to play with. I will include all this stuff in our training."

Vinny listened to all the information on 'taint', 'aberrations', and 'novas' with a grain of salt. He still wasn't sure that this freak from some other Earth really had his best interests at heart.

Don't fuckin' push yourself, will make the invasion all the easier. Oh, and by the way, there are no signs that you have problems until you turn into a damn abomination.

Vinny impatiently crossed his arms, "Sir...the run?"

"If you can control it, it is probably an effect of your powers. If you can't, then it is most likely and aberration." Omar had heard Lt. Wright and agreed.

"Lead on Leutenant." Omar said. "We will have a more thorough question and answer session at a later date." Omar shook out his limbs from the stretches and prepared to move out behind the rest.

Once they got above ground, Vinny led them out the tunnel and through a short run on the surrounding grounds, keeping to known trails and easy terrain.

He made a point of keeping quiet and not making any eye contact. Vinny was still not convinced this team really had a chance of cohesion, and fuck if he was gonna put in any effort. His last team was just barely in the ground afterall.
