Kestrel is still young, having advanced through the early Jedi training quickly. She's fair skinned, with defined cheekbones and a sharp nose and sports the white hair common to the Echani people...in this case in a short, untameable mop atop her head. Her features are quite pretty, if a bit stern. This is amplified by her frequent misinterpretation of the Jedi's avoidence of passions for an avoidence of expressing emotions in general. When in training or on Jedi business, she dresses in a rather traditional tunic and breeches, otherwise she favors looser, flowing Echani styles.

Kestrel's background is not one of nobility or special privilege. Her mother is a teacher, her father makes and repairs weapons...a traditional and time-honored craft among the warrior Echani people. Interestingly, some years back her father was rejected for training by the Jedi; being force-sensitive, but too old to release his fears and attachments and be molded. Kestrel was brought to the Jedi Order as soon as she'd completed her first years of education among the Echani, and it was clear her father had done what he could to instill the values of the Jedi in her even before then. She was accepted, and has acquitted herself quite well as a Guardian. If anything she has taken her lessons too much to heart, her drive to succeed as a Jedi causing her to cling to line and letter, rather than understanding the spirit of the Code. Similarly, in opening herself to instinct and intuition to jump to correct conclusions, she often impatiently neglects pausing to understand the step by step details that lead there. After consideration, her Master decided that she may be overdependent on instruction, and as such has sent her on duty away from him, where she can learn from the best teacher of all. Hard experience.
