I can say that 30 feels a lot like 29 - except for the fact that now it feels worse when somebody younger has no idea what I am talking about. I have to survey the audience before referencing 80 TV and Movies for instance...

Hopefully Joani will clue us in onto how long we have all been working together

You know eachother for about 1 year. OC hasn't as yet assigned you with a target to hit. Your first objective was getting into the other factions which you all accomplished successfully (some of you having been in one of the Factions before you got recruited by OC - I leave that detail up to your freedom to chose and it would leave space for Character Fictions).

I thought of leaving it up to you how well you know eachother and if some of you are good friends or not. Feel free to exchange your thoughts about that at the Table Talk.

Hmmm...I read your update to the background info. The tech level may balance this out but I think my character might be more in the know about where HQ is. He is also extremely hard to pin down. I was thinking Id keep all my backing in OC and not worry about where he is placed in DeVries. Precogs, telepaths and teleporters are so valuable he won't have any trouble getting misions with them.

Something else I was thinking is that my character is veeeery scary, even to other Novas. He even scares the Teragen in monstrousness. I was thinking of going for Taint 6 but then you don't get any social penalties til 8 so I was thinking 7. Now Im thinking fuck it maybe go for 8. yeah baby! Which brings up an important question. If we are affiliated with the Teragen do we get access to archetypes and chrysalis? Or maybe the OC has something better...

Why use taint at all Sky .. Your character could go for M.App 2 with the enhancements of Face of Terror and Awe-Inspiring. Tweak Awe-Inspiring to be a presence that people feel. Like you walk into the room and people get that weight in their chest and cant help to look at you but are at the same time paralyzed and they don't know why.

Well it looks like my character might not make it after all. I havent even submitted the sheet yet but theres already been a problem with precognition...it tends to scare STs. Still Joani and I are trying to work it out. I don't know that I will survive another conceptual rejection for this game though. Cross your fingers...

thats pretty much how I hope Joani sees it. We have a precog in another game and the player gets about a PM a week with various visions. I asked Joani if he would allow it if it was weakened to only see an hour back or forward and that seemed to help a bit. Mind you Id still like the full version but I know its difficult to ST.

In fact it would be nice if anyone has any helpful ideas for me or Joani about how to run and play such a character.

Well, I run a table top Exalted game and I have a character that took the flaw of Unbidden Oracle. I basically run it like Issac from Heroes. At my whim he gets a vision at my discretion that might be soon or farther away in the story. It works for the game.

I am not familiar with your concept, but it works. You could also say it is like the jedi abilities. Combat sense where you can spend it to gain insight to combat and hence initiative bonus. Concentrate on the future to once again, get a image. The further out in time it is, the more abstract and the less set in stone it is. Kind of like in Dune with Paul Atraides. Just some thoughts, would like to see your character in the game.

Thanks Savar and a belated happy birthday as well.

I just watched the movie Next for some inspiration. Not the best film but it had some really cool moments. I like how he states that as soon as you look at the future it changes, because you looked at it.

Which leads to the further headache of whether what you see is immuatable. Say you see yourself getting killed. You try and prevent it by changing your actions but it turns out that the actions you take because you saw yourself are what lead you to actually getting killed.

The idea particularly appealed to me because this Story is called No Fate. Like in Terminator 2: No Fate but what we make.

Which means Joani needs to decide if seeing the future presents an immutable path. This would be similar to 12 Monkeys which although involving time travel and not precog is similar enough.

The other way is that you see it and it changes as you adjust so you have to keep looking. This is more like the movie next, where he is able to look and see every possible outcome and choose the best one.

The latter is more of where my theme is headed. I was discussing some of the finer points with Courier in chat and I managed to get a "well done" from him on my execution of the cocept which is both interesting and eccentric while still being effective. Having gamed with him for awhile I take a well done from him to be a compliment.

I do agree with you, Next was a well done concept, but not executed the best possible way. And to me, that is also the same concept behind Dunes version of precog as well. So I definately like the concept and it is up to the Storyteller to go for a set in stone or a more fluid version of time. That is kind of why as a storyteller myself, I go for more the fluid things. I run it that history is easier to see when it is not that far ahead, hours or days. But to see past a major event is hard because all roads lead to that event then sprawl into lots of directions. This is how I run it in my Exalted game at least. Because I have a character with Dark Fate and Unbidden Oracle. So I have one event I wrote into the game, but everything he sees is generally story hooks/tie-ins for upcoming plots.

Either way, looking forward to your character.

google:define:surrepititous ->Marked by quiet and caution and secrecy; taking pains to avoid being observed; "a furtive manner"; "a lurking prowler"; "a sneak attack"; "stealthy footsteps"; "a surreptitious glance at his watch"; "someone skulking in the shadows".

Im okay with it. My only worry for your character is maxing your power. I hope you read her rules on that.

you misunderstand methinks. Surrep means that he can read your mind without you knowing its happening. Permanent means it would always be active...so whoever he is talking with he can finish their sentances and stuff. Of course some players dont like the idea that other players know what their characters would be thinking. The characters tend to not like it that much anyway. On the other hand if approved I am going to be a commander (rank) and possibly team leader (only if everyone is cool with it otherwise Im just the specialist.) It would make him a scary commander...

Anyone else take backing 5?

Actually I did understand that it would be an always on power. But I understood it to be kind of a stealth attack, like it is you verse a passive willpower save. No one would realize it happened even if your power failed at that moment to get past their will.

Personally I value willpower and have it at a decent rank. But I can understand you barking orders and being able to be guide our actions in combat or even out of combat.

But again, this is me and i am okay with whatever gets approved.

Mew. In a game like this, where secrets are so valuable and our employer is so secret, I think it might be hard to justify why your character is employed by Omega if he's constantly and undetectably reading minds. If I were running a black ops company like Omega, that kind of character is the last thing I'd want within a hundred miles of any of my operatives, let alone my facilities and support crew.

Of course, Omega may have countermeasures against telepathy I know nothing of. Still. On general principle. smile

Yeah, I have to agree with Lily, in this setting I don't see it as very likely even with 5 backing. No one likes someone that can see through secrets less than those who make their life's work the keeping and knowing of said secrets.

Companies like this live by the concept of 'need to know'.

well yeah and truth be told I think Joani is going to poo his undies when he wakes up and reads that part above. So I will retract that idea and stick with good ol 7 taint.

And I believe all the basic hashing out is now finished. Just need to figure out details like costume now.

Is anyone else backing 5?

Thats about as close to the truth as you can get. I wrote a PM for Sky hoping he'll be fine with it.

As most have already figured - there are some powers that would result in a guaranteed exit via bodybag through OCs doors.

I hope you're going to be fine with the story anyways. It is much about morale, ethics and mystery and hopefully you're going to reveal some of the darker secrets. Equipment update will follow today.

So everything you do has a +2 difficulty attached to it because you're always in someone's mind? Taint is a disadvantage, not an advantage. Be sure you want to live with that one.

I'm with Callous...permanent telepathy would make all the sneaky, cloak and dagger stuff irrelevant. My charactera also has a secret, on top of the one we already have being in Omega. Also, purchasedd have Cipher 4.

An aberration (at the highest levels) should make your life miserable, not provide a benefit (which surreptitous teep would. If you were going to write your character out of the story by the first chapter (due to insanity), I would say it is OK. If not, then permanent telepathy is a benefit.

Ask youself what powers you bought tainted. To me, it sounds like they are all perceptual in nature. If that is the case, you could get high level perceptual aberrations like: Supersensitive, Ramapant Synesthesia, Extra Sensory Organs (rows of noses, ears, eyes, mouths or eyes on stalks sprounting from body that give no added benefit.) These examples are found in Brainwaves, on p.45
