Matt
Widget and I are currently at work adapting Steve Kenson's great writing for Aberrant: Brainwaves into a fully developed pdf that will fit with all of the official White Wolf releases for Aberrant. Here are the links for the first draft: Low Quality Images - 1.5 Megs - Quickest Download Mid Quality Images - 2.2 Megs - Best for Standard Viewing
Centipede
It looks wonderful! I think you've captured the look of the books perfectly, though I haven't compared them.:-)

Widget
I'm doing some grunt layout work tonight and tomorrow and then will send the rough results to Chosen for tweaking and organization. My end is pretty easy but as you can see from his example, his polishing is pretty awesome and takes a little time.<font face="Times New Roman" size="5" color="#BC47ED">W</font><font face="Times New Roman" size="2"><font color="#D673FF">idget,</font><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="1">

Matt
Nimrod, I replied to your PM.Endeavor, I don't really have a deadline for the completion of the book. We will probably be posting each chapter when it completes the first round so that people can see the progress, as well as make any sugestions if they want to.I just mentioned the first round and want to explain that. We may end up doing a couple passes at the book. The reason is that we have a few artist that generously offered to contribute to the book. When people offer something for me, I try not to give them strict deadlines if at all possible. We are all doing this for fun, and I don't want to take that away from them by treating them like their boss.So to answer your question, or to avoid answering your question, I'll just say that it will be done as soon as we can finish it. But don't worry, I will keep everyone informed with the progress.
Sakurako Hino
Hey, I wasn't asking for deadlines. Just wild guesses. But, something like this does take time. God how I know that. So, keep up the good work. You got alot of fans waiting for this to come out. Take your time. It looks like when you do, you guys make it rain diamonds! I'm glad you guys give enough of a darn to take as much time as you need to make this as good as a fan-supported article can get. I don't mean to get pushy... I'm just TOO EXITED! Matt
Yeah, I know. I appreciate your eagerness for it, as it makes working on it easier when you know that people are going to enjoy it. The problem is that we are so far away from completion right now that I can't even guess as to when it will be complete. As I said before, I will keep everyone updated on the progress. Matt
We are contemplating adding some additional material to Brainwaves. My question to everyone is, should we add to it, or just leave with just Steve's work?If people would like to see some material added to it, then I would like to talk to anyone that thinks they can write/create something professional.
Sakurako Hino
If you intend to add anything, add it as an N! Prime Appendix. So that any material from the community here is put in a seperate section.
Matt
If we add anything, it will definately be in it's own section(s), with the material clearly marked as to who did what. Other than some mild editing, all of Steve's material will be unchanged.
Sakurako Hino
Then, I'm absolutely cool with it. Who else is cool?
Matt
I just wanted to give a little update. Things on Brainwaves are going very good, and we are progressing at a nice rate.
Widget
As of tonight the Intro and chapters 1-3 are complete (in their rough forms) and I'm working chapter 4 with a friend. The same friend is also doing some graphic work to (re)create the nifty graphics used in the books to frame email extracts, opnet broadcasts and what not - he promises to be done in two or three days. Layout of all of the above is the hardest part in my opinion and and the weight of that falls mostly on Chosen, who deserves the credit for this coming together as quickly as it has. He's a harsh taskmaster but he loosened the chains a little tonight and promised us a cookie. Sooooo... The book is really zipping along but there are a couple of areas that you could all be of assistance on.1. Graphics!!!!Do you have a that one in a million photo that came out really great with an evil gleam in your eyes? Can you handle a pencil, pen or watercolors? Do you spend time doing computer graphics or rendering 3d CGI for work or fun? In the official aberrant books the internal artwork varies a lot with everything from sketches, to CGI, to manga pen sketches to outright photographs. Any or all of the above would be great! In a day or so, after chapter 4 is layed out and Chosen does his quality checks, I'll put up a wish list of illustrations but please consider bending your talents to help. I've seen some very nice work here ranging from Cin's photomanipulations to Apep's colored pencil work and we've got lots of spots to put them so think about it. And don't feel you need to wait for my wish list if the material inspired an idea! Even if it's a pencil sketch inspired by the new super car a company is working on odds are that there is a place for it in this book.2. Background materials. The N! Newsguy routinely came up with interesting ideas ranging from the death of myth among baseline to the solving of problems that had mystified the world for ages. You folks are very creative, can you take an idea and turn it into an email, argument, broadcast, etc illustrating one of the under themes of BrainWaves?Remember; it doesn't have to be a finished product ready for submission to Popular Science or Newsweek. Look through the AB books for examples and then pick you subject in line with the themes of this book. An excerpt of a TecReg raid, a court transript of a lawsuit involving hyper intellects or an Ad for a nova promising to solve your technical problems are all valid ideas.3. Story seeds.A paragraph showcasing an idea for an ST to flesh out for his troupe into a chronicle spanning story arc?More in a day or two.<font face="Times New Roman" size="5" color="#BC47ED">W</font><font face="Times New Roman" size="2"><font color="#D673FF">idget,</font><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="1">

Widget
Very much so. Chosen is burning the midnight oil to bring this project to (successful) completion but the more assistance provided the better it's going to be.Bring it on. Please. <font face="Times New Roman" size="5" color="#BC47ED">W</font><font face="Times New Roman" size="2"><font color="#D673FF">idget,</font><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="1">
Sakurako Hino
I'll dig through my vaults, and see what I can give to the cause then.
Matt
Ok, it's update time. Brainwaves is finished, with the exception of additional material and artwork. That will shift a few things around, but beyond that, it's done.I am holding out in hopes that we can get a few talented artists and writers to help us finalize the book. If you would like to contribute to the book, or know anyone that could, please contact Widget or myself ASAP.
Widget
And along with the above update, here is the list of illustrations needed to complete the book;Specific1. Illustrations of Rachel Alinky to go along with the interview of her by Nova Science magazine. What's desired is 3 head or upper body shots of her from any angle that shows her face. Background isn't critical and if you're a great character sketch artist but don't like background work that's not a problem.2. Illustrations of Elites in combat using state of the art weaponry. One possible example is picture on page 68, ELITES. Emphasis is on cutting edge technologies.3. A 21st Century soldier. This is meant to be a concept sketch of what an infantry soldier would look like if Rachel Alinsky was designing his gear. Please keep it within the realms of realism (no Iron Man) but otherwise cut loose and ignore the TecReg lackeys snooping aroung . Background isn't important as foreground and feel free to use something as simple as a blueprint grid system to give it that realistic and under consideration by the US Government look.4. Weapon designs. For those of a more technical bent, a breakaway illustration of some hi-tech hand grenades or other man-portable weapons are needed to illustrate the Toy sections.5. Concept sketch of a Mega-Intellect displaying unusual physiology. Not necessarily a taint buttered monster but definitely traits that mark her as non-human. Bulging cranium, insect eyes, tranparent skulls, atrophied body with enlarged cranium, etc.6. A humanistic nova standing calm and balancing amid a storm of chaos and motion. Something like the martial artist adverts being run by the SciFi channel right now, or Neo in his final confrontation with the agent software from the movie Matrix. Meant to illustrate the inhuman levels of serene concentration/contemplation some novas are capable of regardless of the circumstances.7. Robotic machinery. Rather than the blocky, boxy contraptions a baseline would design these are illustrations of what a nova with Matter Manipulation or Matter Creation would fabricate. Give it a smooth organic look but don't downplay it's artificial nature. ALong with that...8. Nano-Sects. Dr Alinsky has been creating nano machinery based on the organic templates of insects (examples on pg 74 Elites). These are illustrations using other insect templates like beetles, spiders, scarabs (yes its a beetle but has special mythic connotations), etc. This could be anything from illustrations of a chrome "bug", to a picture of a partial CAD design, or anything else you'd can envision.9. An illustration of what the opnet looks like to a cyberkinetic. Since nova powers "look" like whatever the nova envisions, it can be anything concept you can envision so long as the viewer can see it doesn't represent normal reality.General Wish list- Images illustrating mega-mental aberrations that would scare even their mother.- Illustrations for mega-mental attributes and enhances. Take your pick of the concept but we need one illustrating the obvious mega-perceptive Sherlock Holmes in action.- Microscopic nano-machines; a microscope view of human cells with a crab or beetle-like machine in their midst interacting with the cells.- Any tech listed or mentioned in the book. DAGAR assault armor, Tek-cloth... anything.- Illustrations of TecReg in operation. A reseacher in his lab, mouth agape, looking onward at two Men In Black (MIBs) standing in his doorway. A line of MIBs with boxes in their hands walking out of a ViaSoft building while the occupants look on in shock.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> A scowling MIB flashing a badge or papers at an 8ft tall armored nova security guard. Please contact myself or Chosen by PM if you have suggestions, clarifications or offers of artwork. If you have material ready for submission now please send to my email address;P_R_Widget@hotmail.comTIA!!<font face="Times New Roman" size="5" color="#BC47ED">W</font><font face="Times New Roman" size="2"><font color="#D673FF">idget,</font><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="1">

Widget
The tentative answer is maybe. Widget
Actually you should submit. Matt
My first draft with artwork just went out to the people collaborating on the book with me. There are a handful of holes, but I think it's looking very good. The bonus material seems to be progressing nicely. I am really enjoying what I have read of it so far. Sakurako Hino
Damn! that's fast.Sorry I'm not that much of a help... but I think the project I and TK are working on will make up for it! ^.^Now did I hear this right from TK, that there would be some sort of cross pollenation between Brainwaves and the "Spring Catalog" I and TK(Kirby) are doing? Just curious. Is there stil time to put out little extras for you guys? I do actaully have something.Another question, what is Tek-Cloth? Why I ask is that it sounds like something similar to Hinopolymer. Feel free to ask for Hinopolymer is what I want to offer to the book.
Matt
Real life for several people has made the production of Brainwaves drag on for longer than I had originally anticipated. And because there is still a lot of material that still isn't finalized, I wanted to go ahead and post something to show our progress. This is our first draft of the book from late February. The primary change between this and what I hope will be the final draft is the artwork. There are a good deal of images in this version that were used as placemarkers. Here are the links: Low Quality Images - 1.5 Megs - Quickest Download Mid Quality Images - 2.2 Megs - Best for Standard Viewing The book was a lot of fun to work on, and when RL settles down for the necessary participants, I hope to bring you the final draft that will include a higher quality version for print.I hope everyone enjoys the book. Logical Madness
Any update on what artwork is still needed (if any)? I'd be happy to give it a shot, but wouldn't want to do something and then find out it was the one you already had fifteen versions to choose from. BTW, it looks great.... Sakurako Hino
Okay, perhaps I need to elaborate.I did like it. It felt "official" although it wasn't really published. I can see that there were several spell-checks because I did not see any spelling errors that I could see. The images were top-notch, and seeing Ecatl's artwork was nice too.
