Aberrant RPG - Girls of Aberrant (Warning)

Avenger

Recommended Posts

I'll be posting this in both this section and the Aberrant Storyteller section, seeing as how it sort of has to do with both and neither. I want to point out ahead of time that it isn't my intention to bite anyones ass or to upset anyone. If you choose to read on, you've been warned.

Incidentally, Chosen, if this isn't alright, I apologize ahead of time. The last thing I want to do is piss you off.

Whilst filing through some old art of mine, I came upon a project that a friend of mine and I began around a year ago but never finished. Discovering the fruits of our work which we abandoned so long ago rekindled my interest in said project earlier this evening. I'll probably finish said project in due time regardless, but I was wondering if anyone else might be interested, too. Seeing as how we're gamers (who are notorious for being dateless dweebs, though I exclude myself and several of you from this -- dweeb yes, dateless no), I didn't think it would be out of the realm of possibility to assume that this cadre of predominantly-male dice-chuckers might arch a brow at the mention.

The portfolio's working title was "Girls of Aberrant", and featured many of the more notable canonical novas in various states of undress. Most pictures ranged from cheesecake to outright smutty, and all were done by myself and my friend Paige, both of whom draw in a sort of mock-anime Americanized style. Paige is a better artist than I, though I am an artist of passing quality. We had a few portfolio's in mind, including Girls of the Teragen, Girls of the Project, a few others involving nova couplings and a folder with nova guys only.

My question, then, is does this sort of thing interest anyone here? Am I alone in my desire to see ficticious characters naked and committing unspeakable acts? Perhaps. But if I get enough response, I might finish it faster. Paige and I were kicking around the idea of copying the images onto cardstock and selling them as a portfolio, like the kind you'd pick up at a con. I'm debating between that and just putting the images up on a site. We've both put in a lot of work and it would be nice to see a monetary gain for it, though it doesn't really concern me all that much. Don't know how Paige would feel about me giving away her stuff, though.

Anybody got anyone that they're just dying to see? Any ideas as to what you think I should do? I'm open to any ideas.

Well, I certainly wouldn't mind knowing why Jennifer Lander is called 'Slider' if you get what I mean...

*hrmph*

Anyway.

Go for it... but also go for the Teragen girl... I dunno, drawing Shrapnel naked wouldn't be very sexy, but it would allows you to draw the femal form in a very powerful stance surrounded by fire and melted metal... could be very cool.

Funny you should mention that, Wint. I had some ideas, but if you don't mind sharing, I'd like to know exactly what you had in mind...inasmuch as you can, anyway.

Shrapnel was already done once, though I think I'd like to do her over. The picture wasn't done that well. You're right. It's hard to make a woman made out of pieces of sharp steel and smoldering titanium look sexy.

I know I'm getting into this late, but I'll admit that it's interesting. I just hope that I'm not talking about something that has gone and died already. The idea is one I'll admit to liking. Maybe that says something about me...Hmmm. Anyway. I'd be interested in such a project, or at least putting in ideas. Depending ont he quality of the artwork (have to see samples and such) I would say that I would be willing to pay for it. Just in case that's still an issue.

So, who would I like to see? Well, let me put in some ones that ahve already been mentioned. Slider is a must I think, perhaps both alone and maybe with Corbin or soemthing like that. Alejandra would be good also. Shrapenel I think could be done wonderfully but I imagine it would be hard to do. She would be on my list though. From the Teragen, Narcosis would have to be included given the nature of the project. I also wouldn't mind seeing Bounty or Gauze. I imagien you could also do a lot with someone like Sin-Eater. For Utopians, other than Slider, there are more to choose from I would say. Geisha springs to mind, as does FireFox (maybe w/Makara), Splash, Allison "Psyche" Phatzgraff ( I know I mispelled that), as well as Raknarockette and Ana Gracia Texaria (the last two together for those who like that ind of thing). As far as other women, Sophia Rosseau might be interesting, as would London Fog. I'd also put a vote out for several members of Nippontai (for those with the Players Guide), Kou in particular.

Not sure if you planned to do a guys project or not, but to avoid being sexist I'll throw out some guys who I think should be included just for kicks. Corbin comes tomind obviously, as does Ironskin Andy Vance. I'd say Count Raoul Orzaiz would need to represent the Teragen. As for other Terats, maybe folks like Matador, The Apostle, and possibly Mal himself. If you wanted to go for disturbing/freaky Leviathan and Geryon would be good choices. For T2Mers, Pax is an option. I mentioned Makara in connection with FireFox earlier. Other Utopians that may be possible would be Skew, Thorn, and Montoya-Bernal. Some other ideas would be Core, Totentanz (still masked, natch), and for the gay community novox group Tommy Orgy (Players Guide again). Just trying to give the ladies and gents equal coverage.

In any event, have fun with wahtever you do. Let me know if this is going to be done or not, I'm honestly pretty intrigued.

Hydra, brother, you're not out of time. I've been on vaca, so I haven't worked on much of anything in a couple of weeks. The project is still a go, however slowly. Thanks for your thoughts.

But if you ever again suggest that Corbin nailed Slider, I WILL have to kill you.

Thanks Winter, now you've doomed us all. AS if I don't already have enough to worry about without knowing that Avenger could lurch out of ana lley with a Mossberg Special Purpose (and what might that special purpose be? could it be shooting?) and give me cranial lead implant therapy. Oh, well. Since you said it, I have time to prepare. I hear it's nice in Norway this time of year......

Shouldn't be taking up forum spcae just joking around, but I couldn't help myself. Have fun guys.

Okay, I know it's been close to a million years since I posted anything here, so props to all who freakin' remember me...Anyway, I think the project is a cool idea. Preferably, I think only a limited level of smuttiness is in order (persoanlly, I just don't dig on half-naked comic chicks...ok I guess that puts me in the minority? wink.gif ) but if it's all tastefully rendered, and goes for provocative rather than pornographic, why the hell not? I think the challenge would be making the more freakish novas (male and female) look sexy and could be worth the investment of energy as well as (possibly) money to see them. They would especially be worth paying for if not only did they kickass, but could be offered as posters of varying size. I don't think I'd be down with paying ducats for an 8x11 print, but a poster? Yeah, mos def.

Of course, as I gather to be the consensus here, y' gotta do males and females. We must be fair, no?

One other question: Has anyone thought of the legality involved here? The canonical characters are property of the Wolf, and charging money for their property might shove a snake up the wrong person's butt. I'm not trying to be a downer, but even that might be pushing the Wolf's liberal copyright policies a bit.

And my double apologies if this is an old thread and the art project has come and gone. If it was a success, someone let me know what's up. If not, whatever. Sorry for wasting your time. All I'm saying is, I'd be interested in viewing the results.

I hadn't thought of it, but Darkwave has a point here. Fanart is one thing, but a monetary exchange is quite another. It it probably something that should be looked into if this project (when finished) is going to be sold, even on a small, person-to-person level. I have a freinds who knows a few of teh White Wolf people and they're pretty easy going but it's better safe than sorry.

Incidentally, Wint, Hydra, I won't be needing any kill-toys. I got me Aggro Claws an' Telport!! ^_^ You guys goof around too much. =P Anyway, the project is still in development stages as I've spent most of my free time lately looking for work and doing research for the file in the form of intercoital relations with my missus.

You make a good point about the cash, though. I thought about that in the first place, and at the time, my responce to that question was, "Well, how many of us have pirated software? Anyone NOT?" The more thought I give it, the more the very idea of charging money doesn't sit well in my gut. Ultimately, it's up to me to strike a compromise with the filthy capatalist I started this venture with.

By the way, Darkwave.

You have no idea how difficult it's going to be to make Shrapnel look sexy. We'd already tried twice and scrapped both drafts. Bounty wasn't easy, either. Theres something like four radically different pictures of her in the Teragen book alone. Beltaine was certainly an interesting endeavor, one that none of us care to repeat. And that's just the ones we've FINISHED. Argh...

As for the subject matter, it's going to run the gamut between something like Playboy and something like Hustler. We're trying to do a little bit of something for everybody, from cheesecake to even the most lewd display novahood has to offer. The problem then lies in the "Why is the one picture of Splash so tame?"/"Why is the only picture of Firefly so smuty?" dichotomy. Invariably, if it's seen by a large audience, theres going to be someone out there with a hair up his arse because he can very nearly see the kidneys of his favorite nova while another guy gets bent out of shape because theres nary a nipple to be seen on his.

Maybe I should take a poll.

Two points that may be of assistance (or not). Either way I'm kibbitzing on a creative endeavor and apologize in advance.

On Shrapnel herself, the problem may lie in your perceptions of Shrapnel as a character rather than in the figure she cuts. I've seen the odd picture here and there of subject matter ranging from robots to (vaguely) anthromorphic images of cars to constellations which were... erotic. If it's Shrapnel herself that's the problem, one way around that would be envision a physically similiar character with an entirely different personality and see it it's any easier. A trick of perception.

I'm not certain the Teragen book is much use for your endeavor. As you say, there's several pics of Bounty that seem very dissimiliar. As though each artist was commission seperately with nary a description of the lady. Same with the Shrapnel pics they include which, in my mind, don't match the textual descriptions. And the Geryon pic from his Utopia synopsis... Aarrrgh!

With the exceptions of the high profile characters (Your sweetie, Pax, Ortiz, etc..) you might be better off with your own interpetation rather than trying to use the the conflicting portrayals in the books...

Thanks for the words, Wiz. As always, you bring up some valid points.

Incidentally, earlier this evening I remembered a point about the aforementioned copyright gambit that I had thought of when this endeavor began but slipped my mind earlier today. I had forgotten that there are laws that protect parody, in much the same way you can pick up a comic to see the girls of Sailor Moon doing things that no girl ever ought to do. Provided you make some lame attempt to change the names ("Shifter" instead of "Slider", for example), you (I) are protected under parody laws.
