Onyx Path: The Game is Afoot & Agogo! [Monday Meeting Notes]

The Deluxe Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition: Victorian Age is the GAME, and the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo is the, well, GOGO!

Together, we’re talking about the campaign on Indiegogo for M20: Victorian Age (whew! that’s a lot less of a mouthful!) that has 10 days to go and continues to climb!

Generally, we’re really very happy with the way the crowd-funding campaign has gone. There’s a very steady beat of pledging, and folks are asking really helpful questions – not just about the game content, but also about the campaign itself.

This is excellent. James loves to keep up a bunch of conversations in the comments section, and can generally dig up any answers he doesn’t already know the answers to. The one gap area though, is when it is something that has to do with Indiegogo‘s processes.

Those, we’re all still learning as we go along. Just like with our games, no matter how much you research something new, somebody is going to raise a question you haven’t worked out yet! But we continue to learn by working through your questions, as well as our own!

Pretty much the most common area for questions is about payments. People are used to, and often budgeted for, the Kickstarter method of taking the pledges at the end of the campaign. A bunch of our tried and true processes like Stretch Goals and the release of text during the KS are connected to the way KS does their processes, so we feel ya.

James has been answering questions and helping folks figure out how to pledge or what to do when they want to upgrade a pledge or add to a pledge – most of which tends to be to a) cancel your pledge and re-pledge at your higher amount, or b) wait until we finish and move to BackerKit and pledge and add-on there.

So, Gogo will be taking pledges up until the end of the campaign on the 25th of March, for those of you who have waited until the end to pledge, and then we’ll move quickly to BackerKit for post-campaign activity. Like I mentioned a week or so ago, we’re also trying something we haven’t before – we’ll keep count of the BK pledge totals and see if we can’t achieve a few more Stretch Goals!

Like all of this crowd-funding for M20 Victorian Age, we’re emulating the inventive nature of the era, and even the BK part is trying out something we haven’t done before with counting for SGs.

Now, here’s something new: also on March 25th, after the M20: Victorian Age campaign is over on Indiegogo, we will start the Trinity Continuum: Adventure! campaign on Kickstarter! This is a campaign for a book, and an era, near and dear to my heart, but more on that next week and the weeks to come.

This week, the week before the TC:Adventure! KS launch, we’ve compiled all of the 6 parts of the Tales of the Aeon Society! radio drama into one collection which will be available this Weds! If you haven’t yet listened to any of the parts of the serial, now’s your chance to get all of them together – it’s a fantastic and thrilling lead-in to the game and Kickstarter!

We had a ton of fun putting together the radio drama, and in talking with the performers, I think they did, too! It’s not every day you get to be the voice of a student of Sherlock Holmes, a talking gorilla scientist, or Max Mercer.

Plus, the writing for this gave us a very different angle on how to demonstrate the differences that we’ve incorporated into pulp-style entertainment so as to reflect a modern sensibility while keeping the fun parts. I’ll talk more about this next week as it relates to both M20: Victorian Age and TC: Adventure!.

Until then, really hoping you all get the chance to listen to our stab at old-time radio cliffhangers!

Clues From What We Talked About at the Monday Meeting! Good Lord! <choke>

Our meeting was really very project-focused this week, with lots of talk about the various game lines and how we are setting up their new projects.

Ian mentioned that his new computer can handle the crunching for adding animated parts to our Kickstarter videos in like one one-millionth of the time. So expect to see some tasty graphics in the TC: Adventure! KS video!

We looked at our massive iceberg of projects that built up over the course of 2020 in Editing that Dixie and crew have been chipping away at week after week. So, freelance Editors and Indexers out there, please do apply if you’d like to try using your skills on our projects – Dixie has a steady crew right now, but can always use more hands!

We’re involved in two sales currently:

Roll into Spring Sale at IPR:https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/
March Mystery Sale at DriveThruFiction:https://www.drivethrufiction.com/sale.php?manufacturers_id=4261

Finally, just a couple of teasers that we discussed the non-teaser parts of today. First, there’s a pretty cool announcement we’ll be making in two weeks – we hope, if all works out – and another fun one for April that are entirely not related to each other!

Obviously, I’m teasing for right now, but you’ll see what these are all about very soon. If anyone had way too much free time on their hands, they could probably look at each of the teasers I’ve brought up here over the years and chart them to the actual projects we then announced. Not saying anyone should, just that I only do them for things in the pipeline that do happen. Eventually!

But I rarely mention that this new cool thing was what I was referring to months earlier – we’re just too busy moving forward to the next awesome project we’re doing with our:

Many Worlds, One Path!

The Terrific Trio reach deep into the Pathcast Mailbag to answer your heartfelt missives and deflect your anguished brickbats! This week: the response has been so big, so huge, so gigantic – that a second Mailbag episode had to be done!

As always, this Friday’s Onyx Pathcast will be on Podbean or your favorite podcast venue! https://onyxpathcast.podbean.com/

Also on Podbean this week, on Wednesday, is the complete and compiled episodes of Tales of the Aeon Society! A recently recovered radio program from the 1930s that we here at Onyx Path have lovingly restored at great cost featuring the thrilling adventures of Max Mercer and the Aeon Society!

Gauntlet-Front.jpg
DaggerofSpiragos-Cover.jpg

Scars of the Divine War, which ended less than 200 years ago, have still not healed. One such scar is the Chasm of Flies, a rent in the earth created when the titan Spiragos the Ambusher was smote down by one of the young gods, Vangal the Ravager. Now, the Chasm is inhabited by spider-eye goblins and their spider allies, but it is also thought to be the resting place of powerful artifacts from that elder age.

Astral TableTop is the easiest way to play any tabletop RPG online, free. Astral already supports popular systems like D&D and Pathfinder, and Astral can support virtually any tabletop roleplaying game. Get started quickly with built-in support for most popular game systems. Whether you’re brand new to TTRPGs or a veteran tabletop gamer, Astral‘s ease-of-use and built in automation is designed to streamline gameplay.

Astral is browser-based and uses the latest technology to streamline your storytelling experience. Connect with your party online and run your campaigns however you like. Astral offers tools optimized for phone, tablet, and desktop devices, no installation required.

Build epic battlemaps using Astral‘s enormous collection of scenery, props, and tokens or upload your own. Pro users gain access to over 12,000+ assets and fresh new packs every month. Add weather, visual effects, triggers, and so much more with easy-to-use tools

Build your own adventure, or choose from pre-generated game kits like Gauntlet of Spiragos and Dagger of Spiragos. Create character sheets, craft maps, or just jump right in to connect with your friends and start your adventures!

This Wednesday look to the waters for the PDF and PoD versions of Monsters of the Deep! for It Came From Beneath the Sea! on DTRPG!

As with the threats introduced in They Came from Beneath the Sea!, the monsters in this book can be played for farce, with the Director emphasizing the rubbery costumes coming apart at the seams, or for horror, with the Director describing in precise detail what the Algae of Doom does to its victims (and it isn’t pretty!).

They Came from Beneath the Sea! uses the Storypath System.

Monsters of the Deep! includes:

• Disgusting Destroyers such as Billy Skibbers, the Colossomantids, and the Siliclones!

• Edentulous Enslavers including the Algae of Doom, Poseidon, and the Box Jellies!

• Insidious Invaders including the Sea Dragons, Dire Sea Sponges, and Jelly Men!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Today is the birthday of the late great Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, inspiration and legendary jurist. It is also the Ides of March, historically the day that Julius Caesar was assassinated in Rome. “Beware the Ides of March”, “Et tu, Brute” and all that. As far as I know, there are no connections between these two events.
