A new campaign is coming to the D&D Adventurers League, and you could find yourself in the middle of renewed hostilities among the nations of Khorvaire in Eberron! The campaign is called Oracle of War, and it officially launches in December 2019, soon after the release of Eberron: Rising from the Last War.

Your Character’s Story

In Oracle of War, you play a scavenger, an adventurer who braves the unpredictable and monstrous dangers of the Mournland in the aftermath of the Last War. With your own war experiences still lingering and haunting your memories, you work for rich salvage brokers who pay you to enter the Gray (the locals’ name for ruined Cyre) and track down Cyran artifacts and relics. Everyone has their own reasons for taking on this dangerous work: profit, redemption, guilt, patriotism, revenge, curiosity, or motives more generous or sinister. Whatever the reason or whomever you truly serve in your missions, the danger of the Gray is no less real. Death awaits any who brave the scarred and haunted landscape of the Mournland.

The scavengers and salvage brokers make their homes in the town of Salvation on the edge of the Mournland. In this lawless town, successful scavengers need strong wits, nerves of steel, ambition, and a team to watch their backs. Vast fortunes and buried secrets ready to be unearthed await you in the Gray, but so do terrible monsters and lingering magic.

The Campaign

Oracle of War is administered under the umbrella of the D&D Adventurers League, but is very different type of campaign from what has come before. The story presented in Oracle of War plays out in 20 Core Storyline adventures that take characters from level 1 to 20. After these 20 adventures are released, the campaign is set to conclude, the participants either changing the course of Eberron’s history, or falling victim to the machinations of villains diverse and deadly.

Core Storyline adventures are placed on the DMs Guild at the rate of one per month, giving the campaign an active play period of approximately 2 years. At the end of that time, the Adventurers League admins will evaluate and makes plans for whatever comes next!

In addition to the Core Storyline adventures, the campaign offers 4 EPIC adventures, one for each tier of play. These EPIC adventures involve multiple tables playing at the same time in a story that highlights tangential plots within the main storyline, making them fun to play but not integral for those who may only wish to play the Core Storyline adventures. Other types of one-off or tangential special adventures may be offered over the course of the two-year campaign, but the Core Storyline adventures are the crux of the campaign.

The Oracle of War Player’s Guide and Oracle of War DM’s Guide will be available at the end of October 2019. More details about the campaign, character creation rules, and other details are contained in these guides.

Convention Previews

While the Core Storyline adventures are released at a monthly pace, Core Storyline adventures are grouped together in series that tell smaller parts of the overall story. These grouped Core Storyline adventures are available at large and medium-sized conventions, along with the accompanying EPIC adventure for that Tier, before they are released on the DMs Guild. For example, GameholeCon in Madison, WI is hosting the first previews of Oracle of War starting on October 31st. All four Tier 1 adventures are available there, along with the Tier 1 Epic adventure. Other conventions that run at least 10 Adventurers League tables in a slot can request previews and the latest EPIC by emailing resource@dndadventurersleague.org with the subject line Eberron Preview. Please keep these requests separate from emails requesting content from the Forgotten Realms campaign.

Any convention that offers an EPIC during the preview period must also offer the other available Core Storyline adventures that accompanies the EPIC for that Tier. If your convention requests the EPIC and the preview Core Storyline adventures for a Tier, please provide information about your convention that verifies your convention is running the proper number of tables to qualify.

The Team

The Oracle of War campaign is presented by the Eberron AL Admins—Will Doyle, Amy Lynn Dzura, and Shawn Merwin—under the leadership of Chris Lindsay of Wizards of the Coast.

Will Doyle is the Story Manager, guiding the overall story of the campaign and making sure the adventurers are up to the standard of the Adventures League. Will is a veteran storyteller and a mainstay in the Adventurers League, having written many of AL’s most popular and well-loved adventures and EPICs. Amy Lynn Dzura is the Community Manager, making sure the players and DMs have the latest information and a clear line of communication about the campaign. Amy takes on this position in addition to her similar role for the rest of the Adventurers League programs. Shawn Merwin is the Resource Manager, overseeing behind-the-scenes tasks and making sure the lightning rail runs on time. Shawn has worked on several organized play programs for Wizards of the Coast.

The Launch

The first four adventures span Tier 1 of the campaign. At GameholeCon 2019, which takes place before the release of the Eberron book, players can use pregenerated characters provided. Alternatively, they can create characters using the Player’s Handbook or Basic rules. Special character sheets will also be available containing the information needed to create characters using the player options of Eberron: Rising from the Last War.

Here are the details for the first four Core Storyline adventures:
