THE SIMON MAGUS BURLESQUE AND ABSINTHE BAR

Lurking in the vicinity, Darrik had to cut off the urge to laugh hysterically when he heard the name. Erica. It was a hybrid (and wasn't that a surprise guess to be true) who'd created all this uncertainty and danger worrying Dominique and him, while waltzing around the bar, covering the wool over his eyes with the job-seeking act. Phenomenal acting, he conceded, but that just left more concerns running down his spine as to why she'd come here in the first place.

Marko? To scope out their bar as the known neutral ground? And that left the four vampires in the front whom if Colby was to be believed, answered to Erica and wasn't on their side. Not that Darrik and Dominique couldn't deal with them if need be, but a conflict here would damage Simon Magus' reputation and credibility that it needed to serve as the safe zone for the supernatural community.

It might be overlooked if New Orleans collectively joined together against the Originals and Erica Lindstrom, but the prospect of that happening was unclear.

THE SIMON MAGUS BURLESQUE AND ABSINTHE BAR

Colby shook his head at Cara's question. "No I can't turn into a wolf anymore but the old blood still holds, she could probably compel me but she never has, those others, including that cunt who turned me, not a chance. i know how this ends for me. She could have made me like her but she didn't, that tells me all I need. As for the bones It all started a long time ago..."

Colby relates the story of the Bones that he had told to Marko and Cara the night before. When he finishes he takes another shot of tequila. "She hates them, the originals, I don't know why, she claims to one of them or at least like them and frome what I have seen I believe her. But she is worse than them, I knew the twins they were crazy and fucked up but they would never hurt this city. She'll turn the streets red with blood if she thinks it will get her what she wants. That's why I'm here."

THE SIMON MAGUS BURLESQUE AND ABSINTHE BAR

After the story, and because his other choice was to just leave and face the white wolf alone, he sighed.  "If you'll all excuse me, I'll be right back, I think I've got something relevant to this after all."  Leaving the lounge and with a clear path outside thanks to the goon squad hitting the bar, Dan head out to his truck, retrieving the box, which was still sealed, and brought it back in with him.

He reentered the Lounge and set the box on the table.   "Something tells me, these are more of those bones.  I was entrusted with these by the Crescents, After I went to broker an alliance between the packs to keep us safe with Erica on the loose."  His voice was quiet, to keep his words from spreading beyond the room, and he looked to the others.  "So where do we go from here?"  It was clear he wasn't really willing to surrender the case, or the responsibility, but hearing the story, he'd not be surprised by them being some of the bones.   Finding out for sure was a step in the right direction.

It was all Karen could do to keep from rolling her eyes at the fact this whole mess was because one vampire wanted to use two other vampires as bait to lure in a pair of really old vampires and kill them using a set of really old bones as a power up. Charming.

She did kick back a second drink now, feeling bile at the back of her throat at the whole situation, "Now? I'm betting the witches use the bones to come up with some mojo to blow up Erica while the rest of us buy them time to do so. Question being, can they do it by tonight should our not-so-little hybrid get bored with Marko, I think, and come looking for the packs while we're... effectively out of the picture. Also, are your four friends on your side or Erica's side, Mr. Walker? Just how many people, for want of a better word, are we talking about going against?"

Dominique held out a hand toward the box, but never came close to touching it, but wanting to verify what it was. She could feel the dark magic, the same she had felt just minutes before, emanating from the contents of the box and nodded.

"That's more of them." she said flatly. "I knew either you or Mr. Walker hand them since you both arrived at the same time." she added.

Dominique twirled the shot glass on the table as she let out a small sigh, looking at the box and considering things.

"Here's the thing. The rest of you look at 'em bones an' see an item of power, or a weapon, or whatever. And that is what they seem to be, so no judgement from me 'bout that. But they are items of dark magic... very bad juju that one does consider usin' lightly." she said reassuringly, holding up a hand in a 'calm down' gesture to cut off anybody who might have seemed slighted.

The young, beautiful black woman continued after giving a moment to make sure nobody was getting upset, twisting her head to the right and then left, to whip her dreads over her shoulder and behind, careful not to hit anybody.

"But that's not all they are. As a witch, I look at 'em an' see the bones of a fellow witch, one that was never laid to rest, never allowed to return to the earth. She met a horrible end, one that nobody should face, an' now for over four centuries this woman's spirit has endured, her curse an' hatred and the time of her death fuelin' 'em bones with a dark magic. She deserves her peace. So, if we agree to work together to stop her, an' survive, then when it's all said an' done, I'd like to do just that... put her at peace and be rid of this dark magic. I hope the rest of you can agree." she explained, leaving it at that.

She took in a deep sigh and let it out, shifting her thought a bit to the more direct matters hand.

"Now, I am not sure how these came to be in your possession..." she said, looking to Dan and Colby, "..but I can tell a few things. However... novel... it may be to keep the bones of the dead in a small tin box, it's not particularly safe. So I can only imagine that they were kept stored away. If you have a few minutes, I can make somethin' that is not only a bit more respectful of the dead, but can also help protect the bearer from the bad juju radiatin' from 'em bones." she offered to Dan.

"Oh. And I know where most, if not all, of the rest of the bones are too." she tossed in almost as an afterthought.

"So a few things." Dominue said as she pulled out her phone and typed out a text to Darrik one handed as she spoke.

Text to Darrik:

If the goon squad is playing nice for now, you probably want to head back here.

"I'm not sure of the exact nature of Marko's curse, but judgin' by what he said earlier, I think it is workin' in our favor for the time bein'. Unfortunately, I'd bet that she had 'em cursed in the first place, knowing he would come back here and that, for whatever reason, would bring out the twins, maybe to help him? Anyways, if she had 'em cursed, she might be able to have it broken too. And that would be bad."

Dominique turned to face Colby more fully, letting him take her in, in all her beauty and resemblance to her grandmother at the same age, and asked,

"So Mr. Walker... Colby... Do you know anythin' about the ritual that was foiled last night or of a witch called 'Mother Walters'?"

Cara listened, her lips pursed, as Dominique broke it all down. There was a particularly vital, in her opinion, piece of the puzzle that hadn't been discussed yet. She wasn't entirely sure she wanted to bring it up here and now, surrounded by people she wasn't entirely sure could be trusted...but who knew when another opportunity would come? In any event, she didn't want to bombard Colby, or give the impression she was trying to step on Dom's question, so she bided her time for now.

Once the old werewolf had appeased Dominique, then Cara would see what Colby knew of the plan to 'separate' her and Marko from the Twins. Regardless of the fate of the Originals, she wanted that to happen, if it was a real thing.

But the actions of this 'vampire-wolf' were deeply unsettling. They were...erratic. Veering wildly from threats to offers, from a wish to collaborate with both of them to a sudden effort to drive a wedge between them. Impulsive...perhaps not very confident? Maybe a bit of madness? Cara couldn't tell yet, and the idea that a creature of this strength was psychologically unstable was really scary. Even Marko, at his worst, typically had drives that could be understood even if he was hard to predict moment to moment.

I wonder what bloodline you're from, Cara mused. Have you already managed to cut your ties, or do you need help with that?

Colby swirled the tequila in his glass thinking after a moment he shot the spirit back into his throat and shook his head.

“You mean the girl who was kidnapped? It wasn’t real another part of Erica’s ploy designed to get the Queen out of her fortress. That fool witch was just a sap Her witches fooled into doing the deed. As for Mother Waters yeah that’s Her head witch but the only thing I know about the curse was that it was done at Erica’s behest, pretty much for the reasons you said. I can try to find out more but that may be hard if Marko is firmly in her camp now.

I know that the bones were divided up between the groups that signed the accords with the Queen. I was there and those,” he points to the box that Dan had brought, “are the ones that went to the Werewolves. Those are what led to the split and ultimately why I left New Orleans.

Another set went to the witches and the Regent, actually the first regent since that was the first time all the witches had ever come under one banner, so to speak.”

“I didn’t know that. I thought there had always been a regent,” said Dominique giving Colby a inquisitive look.

“No, they had been separate, sometimes warring, factions before then, only coming together when the queen took over and they needed to show a unified front. They chose a representative from each coven and then chose the most powerful witch in the city to be the regent. The Queen gave her the bones.

Another set was supposedly hidden somewhere in the city.

But if we can get the witches bones that will give us two set, She killed one of the Originals with just one bone. Certainly we can kill her with two sets.”

Dan nodded, and turned his gaze to Dominique.  "if you'd be so kind, I would appreciate such protections."   He looked to Colby.  "They've already caused trouble, I'd rather that ended.   The Packs have enough to deal with as it is."

His eyes narrowed, and his he seemed to relax if only slightly.  "Still, this is a problem we're all going to be facing.   You all know the treaty, how the Packs are forbidden from being in the city after nightfall.  This Erica threatens everything, so if we can help protect the city we will, but we will not be the ones to break the treaty."   He left off how technically the crescents already had, but since they were manipulated into it by Erica's Witches, and then the Vampires showed up, it was a total clusterfuck, and despite the outburst between the queen and Marko, the peace had held, if only barely.

"What I can do before nightfall, I'll do, but anything more will have to wait until tomorrow."   There was something about all this though, that made him wonder if any of them would actually see tomorrow.

"*One* of these bones killed one of your super vampires. And Erica wants a whole set. That's not for monster hunting, she's going to nuke the whole tri state area once she has these 'Twins' in the fucking blast radius. Ridiculous. Someone get me another shot," Karen groaned, pulling out her phone and bringing up her moon tracker app, "Right. That's... four and a half hours till moonrise. If you haven't found these missing sets of bones already, I know a guy. Maybe he can help. And I... see things sometimes when I touch them, ever since I've changed. If half the things you say about these bones are a quarter true, maybe..?"

The Californian Were really didn't want to touch them, but if it meant getting out of here alive without letting the city burn in her tail lights... She frowned, weighing a sudden urge to call her daughter versus the morbidity of it.

THE SIMON MAGUS BURLESQUE AND ABSINTHE BAR

5 hours ago, Dan Hawkins said:

Dan nodded, and turned his gaze to Dominique.  "if you'd be so kind, I would appreciate such protections."

"Of course. It will just take a few minutes before you go." she said to Dan with a nod.

"I would advise against touchin' 'em bones if you see visions like that. I already did a spell to do just that an' saw things I'd rather not." Dominique advised as she poured Karen another shot. "But you are a big girl, so do as you will." she added with a shrug. If people failed to heed her warnings, then the repercussions were on them. She warned them after all.

Dominique though about the situation for a moment, considering her option and the likely fallout from Erica's success or failure if they stopped her somehow. She could just leave, but that would be leaving her magic, ancestors and centuries of family history behind. So no, that really wasn't an option. The alternative meant staying and fighting, opposing this Erica even if it meant saving a bunch of vampires in the process.

Now came the hard part though, as Dominique was still not sure about how much she could trust the others. Cara had seen the results of her locator spell and Colby had just revealed a bit of a bombshell about the bones. He knew they were given to the werewolves, Lillith and the first Regent and that a fourth set was hidden. So that meant that either Mama Sue was the first Regent, or at the very least so trusted and respect by the witches they entrusted them to her themselves. Either way, it might be good to hold back some of the information and keep some of the bones in reserve, just in case, but that would mean Cara, and possibly Colby would have to play along, though unbeknownst to each other.

Still though, did she want to risk it? The would need to think about it...

"We know the skull is in Erica's possession. I'd assume, and it'd seem, that she has the skull hidden from my magic, especially considerin' that she seems to have some witches, or at least a rather powerful one, at her beck an' call." she said, taking in a sigh and pouring Colby and herself another shot.

"As for the rest of 'em bones... We have two sets right here. I know that, as of a few minutes ago at least, a set is at Lillith's estate, the ones given to her at the signin' of the accords I would assume, so I am not sure how we go about collectin' 'em, if at all.".

Dominique considered the rest of what she knew about the location of the rest of the bones and shrugged.

"Fuck it. Au moins en enfer, je serai en bonne compagnie1." the beautiful, young, black woman said, more to herself more than anybody at the table, having made up her mind.

"The fourth set, the ones given to the first Regent?" Dominique said as she looked to Colby, "Yeah, I have 'em." she continued, noting some of the surprised looks from the others.

"I said come from a long line of powerful witches going back centuries. Granted, I didn't fully realize just what they were 'till recently, but regardless. I have 'em, though not on me." she added.

"An' the set hidden in the city? I know where those are too. They are probably the most accessible and least protected, so gettin' 'em should be a priority. So we can, potentially, not have two sets of bones, but three to five, dependin' on how things go." she suggested as she sat back in the booth.

"But like I said, when this is all done, I want all the bones so as to finally put this witch at rest and be rid of this dark magic," she said to the table and then looked to Cara, adding, "Which I doubt is something the vampires would object to."

She then looked to Karen and Dan, her eyes serious, but not confrontational. She knew that the wolves liked their staredowns and such, but she wanted to make sure that they understood she was serious and not playing games.

"And let's face it, the werewolves wouldn't tolerate the existence of such items that could wipe out entire werewolf bloodlines either." Dominique said matter-of-factly to the pair of wolves.

She then sat back and shifted her gaze from one person at the table to the others.

"These bones are too dangerous. If the peace is to be kept, then these bones need to be dealt with when it's all over." she explained flatly.

"Agreed?"

Darrik had to make sure Colby's escorts were behaving, which they did, and then one of the staff had to speak to him about an entertainment-related issue, so Darrik hadn't had the chance to check on Dominique's message. When he did, he gave one last look back at the vampire goons before heading for the back room to join Dominique. A solid knock on the door sounded, for politeness sake before Darrik opened it up and came in.

"For the peace, and to prevent the Originals from fearing for their eternal existences. I'd prefer to not see what desperate vampiric demigods will do."

Karen had to fight the urge to roll her eyes and crack a joke about going to toss some tea in a harbor to remind herself which country she was living in. It was a near thing though, and her lips quirked dangerously at Darrik's comment. She kicked the back the latest drink, letting it burn down her throat. Dear Lord. Was San Francisco, LA, or Chicago hiding a community of supernaturals so... so... Words failed and she counted her blessings that she was raised anywhere but here. Nothing for it now though.

"Sure. Why not? Okay. Two more questions though," she asked with a grin just on the wrong side of unsettling, "One, where is this free set of bones? Two, any chance you can rig up a warning system in case Erica's witches jump us enroute? Otherwise, if no one objects, let's roll. Daylight's burning, and we have problems to solve, violently or otherwise."

"When we're done, the bones of course must be disposed of," Cara replies with a nod. She would have preferred that Dominique reveal less...particularly about their ability to track the bones...but done was done. It would at least provoke a response, if her fears were true.

She also sincerely doubted Marko was 'in Erica's camp.' If there was anything he hated more than being manipulated, Cara had yet to encounter it. If he was cooperating with her...and that had yet to be demonstrated...then it was either out of ignorance, some kind of magic coercion, or because he meant to make her life hell. Marko wasn't stupid, so ignorance was unlikely. Magic coercion couldn't be ruled out, but a vampire of Marko's age was no easy target...and Cara believed she'd be able to tell if that was the case once she had a chance to speak to him. That left the last...and it would ultimately serve that purpose more if everyone believed he was helping Erica. Particularly when she was unsure of everyone's loyalties.

Cara would just have to be ready to make sure no one got overzealous

"To Karen's suggestion, I would add one as well. We should make every effort to ensure no one of us is alone outside of a public place. It's hard to anticipate how directly Erica will move against us, but moving in pairs or groups will make any attempt to assassinate one of us much more difficult."

She looked at Colby. He hadn't mentioned the plan to 'free' her and her brother from the bloodline, so she wouldn't either...but it was absolutely something she needed to press him on as soon as possible.

"Colby, perhaps you can walk me back to my house? Erica still believes you're an ally, and I'd like to have you handy in case we stumble over her and Marko."

Colby nodded at Cara's suggestion, "I'd be happy too. We can take care of my 'bodyguards' while we are at it."

He looks over the others. "Hawkins, you and Ms. Gaunt find out from Dominique where the hidden bones are and go get them. Dominique, we need the bones your grandma had will you get them and see if you and Darrik can find the spell or whatever to use the dammed things."

He drinks one last shot raising the glass in a silent toast first. "We'll meet back here in the morning if all goes as planned."

Dan nodded, and looked to Dominique.  "If it isn't too much trouble, I'll need something to carry them in safely. We will try to return here with them, before we have to go, but this is more in case we can't make it back in time."  he frowned.  This was not going to be this easy.

He'd cooperated more with Vampires and witches in the last two days than his entire life, and he was quite uncomfortable with it.   This had been an insane time, and what was crazy, so few would ever know the whole truth of things.

With all in agreement the various groups made ready to go about their tasks. Cara and Colby were first to leave, Darrik watched them collect the other four vampire watch dog and leave the bar. As he was turning to head back into the office he saw another person a young black man who was also paying close attention to Colby and company. As the man rose to follow them Darrik mumbled a word an with a gesture gazed out at the auras of the room, the man was a vampire!

Back in the office, Dominique was telling the two werewolves where to search for the hidden set of bones as she finished up the bag to hold the set of bones Hawkins had brought.

“I know where it is,” growled Karen, “Grab your Bones Dan and Lets get going. I don't want to get caught in the city.”

With a glare at Karen Dominique handed the bag to Dan and they left.

Dan put the bones into the bag and cinched it tight, tying it again so it wouldn't come open, then head out to the truck with the bones in his pocket.  He took the box too, as it would be a good decoy now, and they made for his truck.  Once inside, he got directions from Karen, and drove off, happy that he'd not gotten a ticket, and a little surprised.

"So Karen, how was your day, aside the outright insanity we're currently involved with?"  He asked almost nonchalantly, he'd not really had time to catch up with her yet, or hear about how the appartment hunt had gone.   "Any promising hits?"

He knew she probably felt awkward, staying in his place, It was probably very different than what a city girl like her was used to, though unlike Emily, he did have power, and other modern amenities.  He didn't need them so much, but it did make things more comfortable, especially in the summer months.  "I did talk to Cabe, things should be good for tonight, so we do have some time."   The gathering wouldn't be as big, with everyone who wasn't already Changed staying home tonight.  If the interloper from the previous night showed, they'd all be happier knowing their families were home and not out in the marsh.

Karen breathed out, letting the metaphysical stink of vampire wash out of her nostrils. The alcohol wasn't helping her self-control, much as she'd been blessed with a strong liver even before her first change. It took her a few moments to process Dan's news before turning to face him. A wry smile dancing on her lips, tinged with amused bitterness.

"That's good. One less problem is better than one more problem. Hopefully two less with Meave going to check on Melody in my car," she allowed with a chuckle, running a hand through her hair, "Where do I start? Okay. So I'm *not* getting a place in the city, too many damn witches and vampires for me to sleep with anything less than a shotgun under my pillow. Need be, I'll start paying rent if you need me to."

Karen was avoiding the topic and she knew it, sighing and looking away, "Turns out you got him. Jack Guant, I mean. Back in the 20s. My dead dad? The one I've been seeing the last few days? He's my dead great grandad. Hooked up with a Crescent before dying and she started a chain of little Gaunts down the years all the way to me. Oh, and the bones we're after in the cemetary? 90% sure they're responsible for the fact Great Grandpa Jack is more lively than most dead people without fangs in your city... Turn left here."

The impromptu direction gave her a chance to settle, her hands to stop waving in agitation, "And don't start getting weird about the Crescent thing, Dan, so help me. People pass down sickle cell and left handedness and blue eyes perfectly fine without it turning them into Miss Magical Princess of Destiny all the time. We all have dead people. I'm not a good person, wouldn't have eaten three or four people if I was, but I own my choices, the good and the bad, and I'm the one who kept playing the Game even when I drew a joker mid-deal."

She didn't know why she was saying this, why she needed one person to be cool with this, and that made her more grumpy, looking away.

Dan nodded.   "No, no need for rent, not for Pack."   those words addressed nearly everything she'd said.   Having crescent blood, a place to stay and whether she could or not, or if he was okay with it.

He followed her directions and sighed, having decided to say abit more. "I won't say I understand it all, or that I've been where you are, neither of those would be really that true.  I get you're having alot thrown at you at once.  In my eyes, you're Pack, and I don't desert my packmates.  Whatever weirdness keeps happening, and through the blood and violence I know is coming, I'll be there, with you.  You won't be facing it alone."  truth was he was having so much added to his plate now being Alpha, and now all of this with Karen, well if they survived this, it was going to be something that would definitely end up coming to light.

He offered her a smile.  "You have a little girl to get back to, and I aim to make sure that happens."   He knew her being Crescent blooded would complicate some things,  and that he definitely wanted to know more about her now.

The Cemetery

They drove on, the silence interrupted only when Karen gave instructions as to where to turn. Dan knew generally where the cemetery they were going to was but had never actually been there so he followed the directions she gave him. That she had remembered the way after only an afternoon of driving in the city was a testament o her intelligence and Dan was impressed. It took them about thirty minutes to reach the back gate she had been to earlier that day.

It was getting late in the day now about the usual dinner time here in the south and the smell of cooking from the nearby residences filled the air, but underlying it was something else.

Karen was out of the truck before Dan had killed the engine and taken several steps toward the gate, she was looking around peering through the standing headstones and sepulchers looking for her great grand daddy.

Dan got out of the truck and called to Karen, "Hey wait up we have plenty of time."

As Dan spoke a smell hit him a scent of rotten flesh and blood. He stopped in his tracks and at the same time Karen caught the smell as well.

http://orokos.com/roll/747724 2d10h6: 0 Blown Rouse Check while rolling up some claws. Hell, yes. Get angry. Smite Evil!

"Less time than you think, Dan. It didn't smell like this when I was here before," Karen stated bluntly, wrenching the gate open with one hand even as she metaphorically reached for the anger that had let her sprout her deadly pedicure before. She didn't like coincidences, and stereotypical as it sounded, maybe super evil bones and witches in New Orleans combined to create zombies. Because of course they would. Why the fat flipping not?! It burned through her, the frustration, the fear, the fact this could drag a genuine big damn hero down with her. Well, fuck that.

Whoever was going around screwing with fresh corpses was going to see why that wasn't a good idea. Some stuff even Karen would not stand by for.

"Let's go get 'em," she growled from the back of her throat, new claws dripping fresh blood and eyes unconsciously shifted a feral gold, the bark of a monster surging down her spine as she retread the ground towards her Great Grandfather's grave.

Dan scowled at the smell and Karen's reaction  "put those away." he hissed,  "it's still daylight."  he followed after her, still in his human form, mindful of the smell, and trying to locate the source.  He was trying to keep his wits, one of them had to, and this was not the time to go off half-cocked.   He knew it wasn't the smell of a vampire, for which he was thankful, but this wasn't normal, even for a new orleans graveyard.

He moved abit faster, as he tried to catch up to Karen, not wanting her to face whatever this was alone.

If Karen heard Dan she didn't acknowledge him and she didn't slow down, with a curse Dan raced after her into the cemetery.

With the sun beginning its set in the west the tall monuments, crypts, and mausoleums created a shadowy maze the werewolves moved through. Karen had thought she knew the way but she had followed the ghost that first time and hadn't really kept track of the surroundings and with the sun in a lower position in the west the shadows made everything look different. The listened for sounds and sniffed for any  scent that could guide them, but the cloying smell of rotten death pervaded the air. It was unnatural. While Karen had senses as keen as Dan's his experience was vaster and he could tell that what they smelled was not from a corpse, or any thing that had once. but rather it seemed to be part of the air itself a miasma of death.

Karen paused she had seen a statue that she remembered and suddenly she knew where they were, "This way!" she whispered to Dan and then she was off again. He followed and soon they were close and they slowed ahead Karen could make out the fenced in area with the Jewish graves. and they could both hear a number of lowered voices.

Quietly the two crept closer until they could see four black cloaked figures kneeling in a circle in front of the gate, inside there circle was the chalk lines of what looked like some sort of mystical drawing there was a bowls and beside the bowl a dead crow. The four witches, as the werewolves assumed they were unaware they were being watched.

"We cannot do this Karen, not now."   He whispered as they were hiding.  "If they go for the bones, then we'll intervene, not before."  She could hear the authority of an Alpha in his voice, and his hand moved atop hers on the ground where they waited.  He was hoping to calm her, to stop her from starting a goddamn war he'd worked most of the day to avoid already.  "We have our own troubles."

Hmmm. That's not good. *shrug* Sie la vie.

"Sorry, but that's one of my dead people they're hurting right now," Karen growled softly, tapping her eye with one taloned finger in brusque explanation. She moved, polevaulting over their cover, feeling the fire of protective anger burning in her gut. She was fast, strong, tough. Easy enough to close the distance and disembowel one of these guys, possibly wing another. She'd cut loose on a few trees before, and it had looked like a whole sounder of hogs had gone nuts on it.

Until her foot got caught mid jump.

Her trajectory went from horizontal to downward, and Karen wound up faceplanting on the earth. She'd broken her nose before, and it felt pretty much like this, drawing a hiss of pain. She started to push her way back to her foot, growling with golden eyes full of hate, "Don't know what you're doing, but stop now or there won't be enough of you four left to bury in one coffin."

Cara strolled out of the bar at Colby's side, and tucked her arm through his as they walked.

"So one thing that I'm still not crystal clear on," she said, her somewhat vacant smile belied by the seriousness of her words. "is what Erica's connection to witches is. How did a creature like that get the cooperation of some powerful witches?"

As he considered his answer, Cara focused on her senses, trying to tell how many of Colby's 'bodyguards' had followed them out of the bar.

They'd have to be dealt with, of course, but there might be options other than killing them.

Or at least other than killing ALL of them.

Seeing her move into action made him swear.  "Merde"   even as he exploded into action driving his own fists into one of the witches, "I don't care what you're doing, but you're doing it to one of mine, and That will Always incur a penalty."  it was far more than he usually spoke when he engaged, but it was a brutal hit nonetheless.  He followed it up with even more brutal attacks hearing bones break, and quickly moved on to the next witch and the next.   In short order all of them lay broken, bleeding, and unconscious on the ground, with nary a scratch on the Bayou Pack Alpha.  Quickly he pulled out his phone to snap a picture of whatever the hell they'd been doing, so at least there was some evidence backing up his reasoning for this savage attack. "Goddamn Witches."

He looked over to Karen, "Are you alright?"

DAN AND KAREN

The force struck Dan with such violence that he was bodily picked up and hurled into the crypt behind him, concrete and masonry shattered and crack, as did bones. If a lesser man had been subject to such force death would be the result. As it was Dan a werewolf, bones were broken and organs smashed but his ability to heal had already taken over and he would be down only for a moment.

The witch stepped from the shadows within the fenced in section and now noticed Karen on the ground a startled expression as she belatedly realized there were two werewolves.

Spoiler

It is Karens action. attacking this witch will need a real attack (she isn't fodder)

CARA AND COLBY

Cara waited for Colby to answer but she was also observing the, for want of a better term, Aryan vampires that had come as watchdogs. All of them had followed her and Colby out the bar and followed closely,  but Cara noticed someone else follow them out a short wiry black man in his mid twenties, although he was adept at the art of tailing persons on foot, he was no match for Cara's experience.

"I really don't know but what I gather is it goes back a long way and they owe her, at least some seem too," Colby finally answered as they reached the large black Lincoln SUV.

Spoiler

They will get into the SUV. Cara will notice as the SUV drives away that a blue sports car, a Ferrari , slips up next to the black man and he jumps into it and that car is now following them.

DAN AND KAREN

"Nice to meet you. Die, please," Karen growled as she pushed up into a lunging swipe of her clawed hand at the witch's gut. The wolf roared in the back of her head, hungry for blood, meeting her humiliated frustration coming the other way. The resulting hate burned in her golden eyes with the promise of death faster than most humans could see and react before that promise was delivered.

The witch tried to twist out of the wya and raised a hand to cast a spell atthe same time, but Karen was quicker. The werewolf's claws ripped through the woman's jacket and into her side and back out with a spray of rich blood.

The witch spun away from Karen and fell to the ground, pressing a hand to her sided to staunch the blood, her spell forgotten she held the other hand up to ward Karan off..

"Wat! Wait, I can help you. You can't get the bones without my help!"

Karen didn't smile. She bared her teeth.

"Wrong," she intoned, a quote from an old show that fit her mood perfectly coming to mind through the fury, "That's my bread and butter you're messing with."

She closed the distance between her and the cowering witch in a snarling leap claws first, images of Jack's spirit writhing in agony, of Dan being flung into the crypt with lethal force, driving her resolve to put this monster in human skin down. Couldn't trust her; didn't need her. Had their own witch, anyway.

He'd been hit hard before, but nothing like that.   As his bones knit back together and his organs regenerated, Dan pulled himself from the broken concrete and Masonry, annoyed, and ready to throat whoever was responsible.  "i'm gonna shove my fist so deep inside you, it's gonna make her jealous..." he growled out,  It was then that he noticed someone had already beaten him to the punch.

Karen's bloody claws, her whole hand as it were, extended from the back of the center of the Witch's torso.  "Well I guess there's no need for that then."   The WItch was decidedly dead, and he looked to the four he'd taken down.   "We need one of them alive, and the bones, and then we need to leave, quickly and quietly."

In the Cemetery

While Dan checked to see if any of the witches still lived Karen had stood and was breathing heavily trying to let the rage go when Dan cursed. "They are all dead."

He looked up a Karen with what she took as an accusatory expression but as she started to say something her great grand father stepped up to the gate of the Jewish section and with some hesitancy reached out and opened it.

In the SUV

Colby looked back as did the watchdogs, all except the driver. "I take it you don't know them," he asked Cara?

She shook her head, "No but then I'm new in town, well at least in the century."

The driver looked at them in the rear-view, "You want me to keep on to the Angelo house?"

Colby cocked his head and looked the question to Cara, leaving it in her ball court.

"No," Cara decided. "Lets see how determined he is. Follow my directions."

From there, she started telling Colby where to go, leading them through New Orleans to the outskirts, and then just outside the city to a little filling station that looked closed and abandoned, where she had the former pack-alpha pull over and park.

All through this she kept an eye on the follower, to see if he was coming along for the ride. If he peeled off, that told her something. If not, well, this was the perfect out of the way place for a little chat.

The sports car pulled to the side of the road about twenty yards away and just sat there. traffic was light, a few cars sped past, then it was just the two.

"Maybe we should..." Colby started but stopped when the door on the sports car opened and the black man got out. He stood there for a moment one leg still in the car, he looked up and down the road then took his sunglasses of then the other door opened and a man got out. Young almost looked like a teen, Fair haired average height and build, wearing a light colored linen suit. He stood for a second, took his sunglasses of and grinned.

"Oh Fuck, " muttered Colby.

Then one by one the doors on the SUV  exploded off their hinges and the vampires followed them as if sucked into a black hole. Cara was frozen a black hand of fear gripping her heart. The four vampires lay in a pile each a gaping hole where there hearts had been. But Cara didn't see them she was staring into a pair of pale blue eyes, eyes that belonged to Kristen Magnuson, an Original vampire.

"Hello Cara, I have so missed you, and your brother."

Cara gathered herself, brutally suppressing the sudden ice cold terror that seized her heart. The Magnuson Twins were like wild animals; fear provoked them, triggered their predatory instincts. Approach them with confidence, and they would often...but not always...leave one alone.

She opened her door and stepped out, bestowing a warm smile at the monster before her.

"Kristen, darling...you only had to send word, or pick up the phone. I don't know about Marko, but I always have time for you, and your sister. I'd ask how you've been, but I think we both know the answer to that is always 'fabulous'."

"So! Welcome back to New Orleans."

Dan could see the old man, or at least the ghost of one, and he moved to Karen.  "is that him?"  he pointed  there was nothing to do now with the dead witches.  He had proof of what they were doing should the regent ask for it later, as any who'd do this manner of thing were definitely breaking the peace.

He frowned, "We're on a clock here Karen, we need his help, and to find the bones, then we've got to leave."
