OOC: Adventure!: Street-Level Heroes - Rules, House Rules and stuff

For SLH many times opponents will be "Extras". Extras are the waves of lesser goons and muscle that heroes generally beat the tar out of as they work their way up to bigger threats. Though for this game, there will be a few different types/levels of Extras; Goons, Thugs and Soldiers.

Goons

Goons are the bottom rung, lowliest and most numerous members of a gang, criminal mob, or even private security force. What they lack in capability they occasionally make up for in numbers.

  • Hit or Miss: Goons roll 1d10 for their attacks, making it pretty easy for a hero to dodge, parry or otherwise avoid an Goon’s attack.
  • Lightweight: A Goon has only three health levels: Hurt -1, Wounded -2 and Maimed -3. Regardless of dice penalties, a Goon always gets to roll 1d10 for an attack.
  • Take That!: If a hero scores two or more extra successes on an attack roll against a Goon, he does not roll damage. Instead, the Goon is immediately struck down in spectacular fashion! The type of attack dictates whether the Goon is unconscious (bashing) or dead (lethal), though a lethal damage attack could possible not kill if the hero so chooses (such as possible dismembering or some other appropriate action).

Thugs

Thugs typically lead/oversee a group of goons and are sent on more important, though still relatively minor, tasks. They pose a real danger to average citizens, but less so to a hero.

  • Triple The Odds: Thugs roll 3d10 for their attacks, making it not too difficult for a hero to dodge, parry or otherwise avoid an Thug's attack.
  • Lightweight: A Thug has only three health levels: Hurt -1, Wounded -2 and Maimed -3. Regardless of dice penalties, a Thug always gets to roll at least 1d10 for an attack.
  • Take That, And That!: If a hero scores three or more extra successes on an attack roll against a Goon, he does not roll damage. Instead, the Thug is immediately struck down in spectacular fashion! The type of attack dictates whether the Thug is unconscious (bashing) or dead (lethal), though a lethal damage attack could possible not kill if the hero so chooses (such as possible dismembering or some other appropriate action).

Soliders

Soldiers are the relatively rare, but better trained, motivated and equipped than Goons or Thugs. They often comprise 'hit squads', a bosses retinue of personal protection or a bodyguard to a Lieutenant.

  • Competent: Soldiers roll 5d10 for their attacks, making them an actual danger to a hero.
  • Not So Lightweight: A Solider has only four health levels: Hurt -1, Injured -2, Wounded -3 and Maimed -4. Regardless of dice penalties, a Solider always gets to roll at least 1d10 for an attack.
  • Tough: If a hero scores four or more extra successes on an attack roll against a Solider, he does not roll damage. Instead, the Solider is immediately struck down in spectacular fashion! The type of attack dictates whether the Solider is unconscious (bashing) or dead (lethal), though a lethal damage attack could possible not kill if the hero so chooses (such as possible dismembering or some other appropriate action).

Lieutenants

Lieutenants are generally beneath the boss/clan leader/shot caller. They are not Extras, so their level of competence can vary greatly (often being something of specialists in certain fields/endeavors). They are the most common antagonists in leadership positions, with various (generally large) numbers of Extras at their command and/or side. Lieutenants can pose a true threat to a hero.
