Sailor OOC
News Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-34778835 It seems that these "Jetpacks", which are more personal helicopters to be honest will start seeing use in Dubai for Search and Rescue use, particularly in high-rise fires (and Dubai has some serious skyscrapers). SalmonMax
At least in jurisdictions where they have the excess funds to spend hundreds of g's on personal flight packs. But it's cool the option exists, I agree.
Sprocket
Agreed on the coolness factor, though our energy technologies will have to improve a fair bit before they can become less awkward. I'm just glad they're marketing it as search and rescue gear. On a battlefield, that thing would be nothing but one big target for infantry riflemen. Sailor OOC
To be honest the one big limit to jet packs is the awkwardness if you want more than 5 minutes of flight time. Also energy technologies don't have to improve, we just need to be more efficient.
Kaoleth
An interesting article. Though I would point out, making them more efficient *is* improving them.
Sailor OOC
I was talking more in using what we have and figuring out how to increase efficiency.
