This Product is a 40 x 20 inch, full color floorplan of a pool and cave entrance.

It comes with Square, Hex and No Ovelays and includes the VTT files for online use.

“There is a pool hidden deep within the mountains. One drink from its depths can give you eternal life if that is what you seek.”

The product includes two maps. The first map is an exterior view of a plateau that leads to a spiraling stone staircase descending to a pool of water. The second map is an interior cutaway view of a cave underneath the plateau. 

The product is intended for use in fantasy or modern settings. 

The spiral descent can be used as an exciting way to get to the cave below or a cave or dungeon of the Game Master’s choosing. There is a very real danger of falling as the adventurers fight their way down the spiral. If they are fortunate, they land in the middle of the pool to somewhat cushion their fall. The unlucky may not survive crashing into the rocks or shallow parts of the pool below. 

An adventure hook for use with this product.

Pool of Eternity: Local legends say that a pool that grants immortality is hidden deep within the mountains. A spiraling staircase descends to the pool and one drink of the waters can prevent death forever. What the local legends fail to reveal is the price. One drink of the pool grants immortality, but sunlight becomes a mortal enemy to the imbiber. This has forced most of the immortals into the dark cave next to the pool, unable to escape the mountains. If the group meets the immortals, they find most of them sad and depressed by their fate. Some immortals have become crazy and filled with hate, wishing only to inflict pain on mortals. Most notable is that their skin is fair and looks not to have aged at all, but nearly all of them have scars inflicted by the searing sun that permanently mar their bodies. Why does the pool grant immortality to those who drink from it? Is there a way to save the immortals from the curse of eternal life? Deep within the cave may be secret passages that lead to other areas within the mountains as well.

In the World of Xoth, there is a land far to the north, past the black hills of Lamu and beyond the frozen moors of Tharag Thule. It is a dreary land of mist and thunder, and the white people of Yg have dwelt there since ancient times.

Across this land, on towering hilltops and beside fog-shrouded lakes, stand somber granite castles, and therein dwell the princelings and tyrants of Yg with their countless thralls and slaves and subjects.

The free men of Yg tremble when fools dare to utter the name of Arkanth Mal, for he is the greatest and oldest of the tyrants of this primeval land. He is the witch-king of Galuga, grand master of necromancy and alchemy.

Yet there are times when drunken bards in the smoke-filled taverns of Tartuun dare to sing the forbidden song of the witch-king and his first consort, Eliyh. In his youth, the bards say, Arkanth Mal left the land of Yg and wandered east of the mountains to study sorcery. Among the Easterlings he met the witch Eliyh and was enraptured by her charms. The two dwelled in the east for several years, sharing many earthly pleasures and sorcerous secrets.

But when Arkanth Mal returned to Yg in the west, he was alone, for Eliyh was not by his side. Soon thereafter, Arkanth Mal took as his wife Verina, a princess of Lamu. Using the plentiful gold from her dowry, he purchased the loyalty of the grim hill-men of Natla.

The sorcerer and his army conquered vast tracts of the land of Yg in a series of bloody battles and protracted sieges. In the end, Arkanth Mal reigned supreme among the tyrants of Yg from his citadel of Galuga, and the princelings were forced to pay tribute to the witch-king.

However, at the moment of the sorcerer’s triumph, while he was away on his last campaign, Verina fled from Galuga for unknown reasons, and returned to the realm of her father in the south.

And now, the bards of Tartuun whisper, the witch-king of Galuga seeks a new queen. For the minions of Arkanth Mal sweep across the borders of Tharag Thule and Lamu, slaying men and taking only young women as slaves back to Galuga, the Citadel beyond the North Wind!

            The Pathfinder Bestiary, and the long line of monstrous encyclopedia that came before it, do a great job of attacking the problem of providing game statistics and mechanical information for a very wide variety of creatures. There are a lot of strange creatures from fantasy novels and movies, from ancient mythology, and, as time went on, from the twisted minds of game designers and even GMs, for that matter. Anyone today who tried to go about creating an extensive bestiary of all the different cool and interesting fantasy monsters could fill three or four volumes with three hundred monsters each, and still have a long way left to go, with fans crying out for various “forgotten” monsters to get some attention. That kind of breadth doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for depth, and that’s where Exotic Encounters comes in.

            There are all kinds of reasons why you might not want to use a monster stat-block straight from the core rules. For one thing, if your players have a habit of browsing through such books, or are long-time veterans who know the basic ins and outs of most fantasy staples, you may need an unusual stat-block just to throw them a curve ball and teach them that they can’t count on their out of character knowledge to take all the mystery out of the game. Alternatively, many GMs can recall a time when they wanted to make use of a certain monster in their game, only to find that it was a few CRs too high or low for what they had in mind.

            Exotic Encounters takes a single, iconic monster, and creates three new variants on that theme. These variants aren’t simple tweaks, and are more than simply advancing or removing Hit Dice, though that occurs as well. Each of these three variations on the monster’s theme has a specific, flavorful goal in mind, and a role to play, and their statistics entries are gently massaged in order to make them fit those roles. Further, each of these variants comes with brand new specially-crafted special abilities, which are unique to Exotic Encounters and not found anywhere else.

            This particular installment of Exotic Encounters focuses on the mummy: one of the most iconic forms of undead, though one that is often difficult to reconcile with the medieval European themes of the average fantasy roleplaying game. Though we often think of Egypt when we think of mummies, the fact of the matter is that mummies of various sorts have been found historically throughout the world. For the purposes of this book, we focused on three different aspects of mummies in popular culture. The relic-bound mummy (CR 7) focuses on the concept of mummies as guardians of relics and treasures, and it is virtually impossible to steal a relicbound mummy’s relic and live to enjoy the spoils. The curse lord mummy (CR 10) instead focuses on the link between mummies and curses, and is loaded down with some very nasty and creative curses that are incredibly difficult to remove. Finally, the possessed mummy (CR 12) is actually nothing more than the corpse of an ancient warrior, who has been possessed by a fiendish entity, which uses it as a foothold to spread evil and terror through the material plane.
