Jillian Johnson
I do have a question: How many of us have started generation on our second characters? I think I'll wait to start on Shirley until I got Ensign established. ,, I think it'll take a while before I consider creating a second PC. I should be tapped enough with running one PC for the start.
The Mariner
I think it's smart then to save Shirley for after the establishment of the first wave of heroes and heroines. ,, It's sounding good on my end for Ensign... can't wait, honestly.
Dave ST
I've started conceptual design for my second PC, which two people so far agree is n awesome idea. I won't actually consider the guy for another several months though.
The Mariner
Coolness, I'd like to see it sometime. ,, Also, random question... who among the first wave wears a cape? Just asking out of curiosity and for the fun of it.
Misthal Thorn
Capes are outdated, coats and jackets are much more useful.. and less likely to catch in someone's engine..
Dave ST
Bastion fights crime n whatever he's wearing that day. No costume.
The Mariner
Well, there is something to be said for break-away brooches or velcro attachment points. That and a Cloak is damn useful for keeping dry/warm over a cape anyways. ,, I guess it depends on the style of the character. I wager Bastion is still "Superboy" in a shirt and denim jeans, and Misthal is a Harry Dresden type. I imagine WatchWoman being a tactical special-ops type. Dawn OOC
Watchman used to have a cape on his uniform and nearly died. No CAPES!
Dave ST
Watch Woman dresses in Dom-gear and drowns her insignia in her cleavage tsunami. Which I think qualifies as insignia abuse... Poor lil guy. Yeah, B doesn't have a costume, those things are expensive. His allowance is only like a couple bucks a week.
The Mariner
That's okay, Ensign blew her inheritance getting moved to Minneapolis and getting her HQ established. Of course once the merchandising deals and other income sources start to come in Mary should be pretty comfortable.
Eingar
A cape? I am a child of the Vanir and the Frost Giants: what need have I for such frippery. Simple hide and fur shall suffice, though I find denims to be excellent wear for when I am not hunting! ,, Suffice to say, Ivarr's 'hunting garb' will be the latest in fur, hide and leather straps. It's what the well-dressed barbarians are wearing in Alfheim this season.
Dave ST
Leather straps? You and Mean Lantern have the same tailor?
The Mariner
Well, at least we got a diverse design spread. ,, I can dig it.
The Mariner
Okay... ,, I think Dave, Dawn, and Mala signed off on me... I'm official now! ,, I think... but... yaaaay. ,, Also, this is officially Ensign's theme... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSfD4ClDBCk With a special extended edition when everything is on the line... http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=ymafS-huK-g
Dawn OOC
At this point, we have the following people approved: ,, Ensign Minneapolis Jillian Johnson Davian Layton Watchwoman Dr. Julian Kell Ivarr Ullson ,, The following are almost approved: ,, Bastion Misthal Thorn ,, The following have been submitted partially: ,, Darrik ,, Just an FYI. Those that are approved can start posting, and STs can start offering stories to run.
The Mariner
Excellent. I'm just waiting on the opinions on the power adjustment Dave suggested to me. If it works, then Ensign is ready to roll.
The Mariner
I'll wait for a different thread to start, I'm not sure where I fit in best. ,, I'm not sure if I can do a solo thread either.
Gabriel Stone
Well, your options are limited. The way you cop out of everything and don't seem to wanna write for yourself is going to make it awfully hard for your character to do anything in this gaming world. ,, Go big or go home. Riding the bench isn't an option.
The Mariner
Well, I don't know if I can make solo threads while waiting for actual ST driven ones.
Dawn OOC
You absolutely can, as Bastion just pointed out. I know they're not as fun or easy, but they're totally doable.
The Mariner
My apologies on the derp on understanding this game. I'll have something started soon.
Valerie Keirsey
Val's submitted! Just waiting on the OK now
The Mariner
I've been a little slow on my solo. 4th of July and stuff... but I'll get back in the swing of things shortly. ,, Also, any more ideas for joint threads coming up?
Tomomi Keaughan
Okay slight change to what I will have for my alt... also my solo with Ensign is complete. ,, Before I figure what I'll do next, I'll play around with this alt build.
The Mariner
So, is there any news on anyone wanting to do threads more than just a solo? This game is still just sitting on the launch pad.
Hyoseph
I'm currently working on getting my character approved, been on hold for a while at this point.
Sailor OOC
Okay... I might be up for running a story. Just one. If there are interested parties, I'll wait a week for Carv to get back, that way anyone waiting for approvals can get done and I'm willing to run something. That and this gives me time to think of a one-shot plot.
Tomomi Keaughan
Oh, There is a question I wanted to ask as it is part of Tomomi's background and it will (obviously) effect the game world, and at least in my view in a interesting and engaging way. Giant Monsters. Can they be a thing, and can I tie this to Tomomi's background? Thought this could add a possible something for people to have to deal with.
Vivi OOC
My vote is a solid "No." I don't see a need to Otaku up a superhero game. Comic book =/= Anime in my opinion.
Tomomi Keaughan
You do realize that Giant Monsters are also a thing in western comic books, right? ,, Also this won't be isolated to the place Tomomi will be, this is a world-wide sort of thing I am proposing.
Vivi OOC
Occasionally. I also know you have exceptional difficulty breaking out of specific genres, so I am completely expecting Kaiju- not T-Rexes, King Kong, or sentient dragons.
Tomomi Keaughan
First why are you bringing up my preferences as a wedge? ,, Second, yes these are alien mutants grown to giant size. Something I have seen in Western comic books.
Vivi OOC
You, historically, have a tendency to try to insinuate all things anime into the games you play. It's not a "wedge" but an observation. You do this. It's an established pattern. Mechs. Sailor suits. Rubber mech-pilot outfits. Catgirls. Character tropes. That you have preferences is fine, but I (emphasis on the "I" since I'm not speaking for everyone) don't think those preferences are necessary or desirable in every game. ,, Now. As far as the actual issue at hand is concerned, the "giant monster" is far, far more prevalent in Eastern media than Western. Having seen something in Western comics does not, in my mind, instantly make it appropriate for a specific superhero comic-book game; there are a great many things in Western comics that would definitely not be appropriate. (Pretty much anything Frank Miller puts out, for example.) ,, Do I think it could be possible for one to crop up on Earth under unusual circumstances? Sure. A frost giant might be considered a "giant monster," but we've already established that Asgard and all associated myths exist in the game world, so while it might be a rare sight, one might make an appearance. The singular result of a mad scientist's genetic experimentation gone awry? Also possible. Escapee from a Jurassic Park-style preserve? Okay, sure. I don't, however, think they should be common or numerous enough to form the basis of a character's background, as you've implied.
Tomomi Keaughan
Fine, dropping the idea then. I'll might drop the character too for something else, this was a bit of her background, in particular her nemesis who engineers these creatures.
Vivi OOC
Or you could say, "Okay, cool, that's your opinion. What does everyone else think?"
Tomomi Keaughan
No, it was a horrible idea. But how about tank/bus sized critters? Smaller, more "reasonible" size. ,, Oh and I don't think we discussed this matter - How will experience be handed out?
Sailor OOC
I've got something simmering, as such I'm considering Ensign my Alt, and Tomomi my main. Although if anyone wants Ensign in their thread I am more than happy to oblige. Tomomi will be submitted this week.
Sailor OOC
Obviously no Tomomi... ,, I am still interested in this game, but I'm going to take a month or so to reconnoiter. Unless someone wants to do something with Ensign, I'm going to think about what I want from this game.
The Mariner
And Carv you keep delivering!!! I could hug you!
Dawn OOC
I'd like to make a suggestion that might help people build some momentum for this game. It would require adjustments to people's background, but I really think it would be a boon to us.,,The idea is that we forget the world-wide idea, and the zones of influence idea. I know that something similar has been suggested, but I suggest we add a new city, a mega-city, to the map. This city would be the focus of the game. Yes, it's a bit contrived but all the PCs are really spread out and this would bring them closer. ,,Some concept art...,,Downtown:,,The slums:,,The Green Zone:,,The Innovation Circle:,,Before we start to discuss ideas, is there any interest?
