Sachicko's attacks hit home, but the monster seemed unfazed by being hit by so much electricity. Still part of it's chitinous armor was cracked alitte by her assault.

The demon didn't counterattack instead it seemed to heal the damage she'd dealt, waiting obviously for the other half of its meal to try to harm it, gauging the strength of its prey.

Galiana didn’t like its calm, or the ease with which it had shaken off Sachicko’s attacks. Either Sachi wasn’t as strong as Gali had thought…

Or this thing was far stronger than Gali had thought it would be.

The werecat snarled, lowered her head and charged into the fight, determined to give it her all, or fall trying.

The great centipede took the claw attacks, and it's wounds began to close again. It was still measuring them it seemed, and it lashed out almost lazily with the stinger in it's long tail, missing narrowly, but the venom from the tip killed the grass and burned it away where it struck, adding a great stench to the air.

Sachiko scowled at her watch and slammed it with the palm of her hand. "Nnngh! Stupid thing! If that doesn't work, give me something else!"

"Mode change prohibited. You are not following your dreams."

"YES I AM!" Sachiko grabbed the watch and squeezed it, as if by sheer force of will she could force it to obey her.

Astonishingly, it appeared to work.

"Reconfiguring," the wristwear announced primly, and the shock prods retracted, telescoping back as the various frills and other accoutrements folded and slid into the case as well, even when it was abundently clear there wasn't enough room in there for all of it.

Sachiko in the meantime took out her frustrations on the centipede, swinging the bat at one of its crunchy, crunchy legs like she was trying to get a home run!

Her bat connected, but did little damage beyond cracking the armored exoskeleton this time. The demon chittered again and lunged for Sachiko, even as it's body began to radiate heat. It's touch Seared her clothing as it passed close to her, as she just managed to get out of the way, and the heat was only growing now.

(galiana is up, The demons' aura of heat does 10 damage to anyone striking it, or being struck by it, which bypasses armor completely, this damage may increase.)

  • 2 weeks later...

(OOC - Apologies to Carver, it's been over a week, so I figured I'd try to keep things moving, since everyone else has finished now.)

As the centipede-demon showed it's true stripes by immolating itself in flames, Sachiko flinched back instinctively, and shaded her eyes from the sudden glare. She looked at her bat...the hardwood visibly strained, with a little crack showing. One more good hit, maybe, and if it didn't shatter, it'd burn up anyway.

Man, if only her dad had bought that metal bat.

She reached into her pocket, a veneer of calm settling over her. Maybe it was just a test, and maybe it wasn't. Maybe she'd die, and maybe she wouldn't. But she wasn't going to take the chance that something like this would just be let loose in the same world as the people she cared about. Not without fighting until there wasn't anything left to fight.

In her pocket was the little wrapped chocolate she'd nicked from Sayoko's house. One last treat. Something to steady the nerves. Sachiko unwrapped it deftly, keeping an eye on Galiana...

"Banzai," she said softly, and tossed it into her mouth.

How long had it been since she'd had chocolate? It gave her an allergic reaction...nearly killed her, they'd said. But it was her very favorite thing in the world. Took long enough to set in that she'd have time to throw herself at the demon again. Something to live for...something to die for.

It melted in her mouth, cocoa and sugar and milk and caffiene. It ran down her throat. Enzymes and chemistry. Neurons flared, like numbers spinning on a lock.

Sachiko closed her eyes in bliss.

And there was a sound like a heartbeat. chump-dump. Grass bent outward away from Sachiko for a second, as if a quick gust of wind had flowed out of her. There was a sudden tension in the air, like the moment just before a summer storm begins to pour rain. Something appeared on Sachiko's forehead; a complicated mark in her skin like a stylized circle with writing around the outside. It appeared there as if it had always been there, just unseen before.

And then another heartbeat. The circle flashed from black to red and shone with a momentary light. Then it was gone.

When Sachiko opened her eyes, there was a wild and uncanny shine in them. She lifted an eyebrow and looked around, as if momentarily confused about where she was. Then she spied the demon there and grinned widely. It was the kind of grin that had fangs, even if her teeth didn't quite live up to it.

"That...is...so much BETTER!" she shouted, holding her arms up over her head in triumph.

The demon chittered and whirled to stare at her, waving its feelers in insectile challenge.

Sachiko smirked and waved a hand. "Yeah, yeah, I heard you the first time." Her fingers danced a complicated waltz on her watch, which abruptly declared, "Superuser access granted. Functions unlocked. Reconfiguring."

Metal plates slid out, then telescoped around to make a circular, shallow-dishlike shield.

"And for my next trick..."

She tapped her baseball bat on the ground, then slammed it down HARD...breaking it off at the handle. She held the broken wooden dowel up then...and pure golden-white light poured out of it, filling an invisible mold in the shape of a baseball bat until it had completely taken that shape. A bat of light that filled the clearing, and from which the demon hissed and flinched.

Sachiko held the weapon as if it was a spear, looking like a crazed gladiator with her shield, then threw the blazing implement at the demon's sinuous midsection!

[salmonMax] 5:45 pm: Shadows roll to hit

[Moira Morley] 5:46 pm: You can answer both posts

SalmonMax *rolls* 2d6: 4+3+8: 15

[salmonMax] 6:49 pm: Oh hey, two attacks...oh, but changing watch mode is 1...

[salmonMax] 6:49 pm: Ok...defenses.

SalmonMax *rolls* 2d6: 6+1+7: 14

SalmonMax *rolls* 2d6: 1+4+7: 12

Damage is 7x5 +6 for 41 'holy' damage. Penetrating 4.

OOC - Messed up defense rolls. Should be 3 higher apiece, due to shield.

The attack split the demon's armor on it's right side, causing it to bleed immense amounts of heat even as it screamed and thrashed about in a rage. What Sachicko'd done had hurt it far more than normal attacks, even Galian's Razor sharp claws. Still now with the rent in its armor, it was even hotter to be by it.

(Galiana is up, the heat aura of damage is 25 now.)

The aura of heat worried the cat but she didn’t back down. She may have hesitated when faced with that burning fury, but she didn’t wait much longer. Her ear flattened hard against her skull as she crouched, drawing her strength into her muscles. Then she attacked.

Galiana's claws rent more of the armor... and the creature ceased moving, save for it's mandibles and antenna. The heat continued to rise, and things looked very good, save, it was still chittering.

It didn't look like it was defending itself.

(both of you may make a mind check, Dc 10 to see what it's doing.)

Sachiko's grin faded somewhat as she took in the demon's reaction, then she pursed her lips and said, "Ohhhhhhhh...one of those. Gali, follow me! One more puncture and it's going to pop like a balloon filled with nitroglycerin!"

Now the devilish grin was back. "Which gives me an awesome idea."

She took off running away at a dead sprint, and as she did the spear of light that she'd launched shivered in the monster's body and yanked itself free to pursue Sachiko across the night-soaked meadow towards the forest's edge.

With a quick glance back to verify that Galiana was getting out of there, Sachiko leaped up to catch the spear in midair, then whipped it around in a tight half-circle to chuck it back the way it had come...back towards the centi-demon!

"WooooHOOO!" she whooped. "How'dya like THEM apples, pardner! I shoot dimes out of the air too, for birthday parties!"

The lance cruised right past the demon though, sailing off into the forest beyond.

Sachiko's face fell. "Aw man."

With a pout, she sighed and said, "This is getting boring now."

The high school student lifted a hand, made an imaginary gun with thumb and forefinger, aimed it at the demon, and 'fired' it.

A ball of white light gathered on the tip of her finger, then erupted in a monstrous ravening beam that rivaled daylight in intensity. A peal of thunder thoomed as it superheated the air it passed through, and curled and dried the grass directly under it. It wasn't the heat that hurt the demon when it hit though, it was the light. Fusion, like the heart of the sun...burning every color at once. Not just physical light, but metaphysical; it attacked the demon where it lived, in the soul.

No, the light said, simply by existing, there shall be no hate, no malice, no ignorance, no fear, no base nor craven thing that preys on the weak to feed on their suffering. No loss of love, no victory for the tides of darkness. The antithesis to demonkind, a rebuttal to the power of Hell, in one blast of illumination.

"Bang," she said. "I shot you. You're dead."

[salmonMax]1:32 pm: Mind roll in Shadows...

“Bang,” Sachiko said. “I shot you. You’re dead.”

Galiana leapt and changed in one movement when she realized that he companion was jacking around instead of running. Massive, furred arms closed around Sachi and snatched her clean off the ground. Never before had any of the kids seen this half-form before, a monstrous amalgamation of woman and cat.

Gali ran as fast as she could. Sachi was heavier than Shinji and the werecat couldn’t get close to her maximum speed while carrying her. But she was still faster than a human, far faster.

As she ran, she racked her brains for a valley or somewhere to shelter the two of them. Hell, even a log on its side.

Because if she didn’t, it was going to hurt like a bitch.

The demon exploded and the fireball flattened everything within Thirty meters. The fireball quickly set the woods aflame, and fire licked after them, and then in an instant, it was gone, making it almost completely anticlimactic. Looking back all that could be seen were the flattened and charred trees, and those who still stood, but had been burned.

The Malevolent darkness was gone, and through the trees, they could see the moon and the endless stars of night.

Sachiko was laughing and squirming helplessly in Galiana's grasp when the demon finally exploded, and for a second she just clung to the werebeast and stared, wide-eyed back over her shoulder at the devastation. Gali heard her whisper "Sugoi," in a reverent tone.

A moment later she added, "Hey, we got it. Uh, you can let me down now. We can just use those...things...to get back."

She sounded subtly different. That tone of amused impatience was gone again. She seemed back to her usual self.
