This thread is for any technology that our brainiacs can come up with as well as some ideas that make it through approval that I might come up with. I'm going to list stuff for right now as Gadgets, but these gadgets would be something that is expected at the current tech level plus a couple years.

In regards to tech advancement, Anything that would exist in CN that doesn't exist in real life is probably something that is currently in the R&D phase that a nova with a couple years and the budget that comes with him or her can create.

People can also list as they develop it things like new materials or alloys.

One note, with the reconfigured gadget rules, you will have to rebuild your gadgets accordingly.

MIT for years was developing a high-mobility suit for use on the martian surface. It was a brilliant concept but there were multiple problems with the suit. One, it had to be custom tailored to the wearer, the power source had to be worked out, and most life support systems needed work on miniaturization. Eventually the suit became nothing more than a pipe-dream. Until Mitsubishi backed by a combined Nova/Human effort made the impossible a reality.

One, the suit bases it's most important functional requirement, the ability to create tension to keep the proper pressure inside the suit to earth tolerances is achieved through a memory polymer that conforms to the body, that is also adaptable to a range of bodies instead of requiring careful tailoring for each user. A miniaturized re-breather allows for 24 hours of constant use, and it is powered through multiple sources through a deployable solar panel, internal hydrogen fuel cells, and the ability to convert kinetic motion of the wearer through micro-springs weaved through the suit into electricity to charge batteries. Making the lifespan of the suit's breathing supply of air practically infinite. The fabrics and radiation protection of the suit converted a suit originally meant for Martian use to be useable in space as well.

Note: While the wearer would look odd, the suit does function just fine on earth and the user will not suffocate. They should get the biohazard modification though so they can use it in dangerous, toxic environments.

The Flintlock!, which is Karrie's name for it, is a beautiful looking replica Lewis and Clark Style Flintlock Pistol. The piece looks utilitarian, with few of the flourishs that other replica pieces have. This one looks like it's been fired and carried. In truth, it has, though not in a way that many expect. The Flintlock has a wood stock and brass furniture, is 13.5 inches long and weighs 2 lbs.

The barrel has been filled with conductive filament and bits of metal. These gather energy and release it in an impressive fireball. The Flintlock! was Karrie's first invention, and she's quite proud of it. It also isn't available for general consumption.

The 'Sticky-Aid' appears to be a red first-aid box that measures one foot by six inches, but that's just the outer covering. The real Sticky-Aid is the inside clothes, which are soaked in some sort of white substance. When one of the cloths is pulled out and placed on the wound, it begins to harden. As soon as the outer shell is fixed in place, which takes roughly a minute, it heals the subject for a maximum of 5 Lethal and 10 Bashing.

The Sticky-Aid is now a common gadget for many field agents and Karrie has several available for agents to use. They can be replenished by replacing the cloths inside and waiting approximately for twenty-four hours (for the Q-pool to replenish).

The Sexah Leatherness is a knee-length leather trench coat designed by Karrie. The base component is a leather jacket (statted as per reinforced clothing in the book). Karrie first added the following under the coat's liner: Micro-Kevlar (very thin but strong Kevlar plates), Plasti-coating (a coating that resists being cut by a blade) and Impact Padding (a dense foam that is very good at absorbing blows). These items are always 'on' and provide constant protection. Next, she created a force-field matrix that is hidden under the liner and the first layer of protection. When she presses a button hidden in a cuff button, she can activate a force field for an additional level of protection.

This invention is one of Karrie's personal items.

This new breed of Peripheral was developed in the aftermath of the 2011 Great Earthquake. As a way to provide up-to-the-minute data to operatives on the ground. Originally it wasn't slated for release until 2012, but it was fast-tracked.

Built into the form of ubiquitous eyeglasses (the only frames available in such short notice), the "Scholar" as they became known were an instant hit for S&R teams, medics, and relief personnel.

The glasses use the latest wireless protocols to speak to a portable computing device (usually a tablet or laptop) and provides a visual representation of the machine's desktop. It can have map overlays, and provide video feed from other pairs of glasses with audio.

Due to battery life, the longest the glasses function is 6 hours before needing a recharge.

This hardy suit was built by Karrie in answer to Mitsubishi’s “Hoshi”. As always, it carries a hint of her own flair and resembles the plug suit from Evangelion (which is where the name comes from as well). This suit is molded from micro-Kevlar covered in Plasti-coating, cushioned underneath by Impact Padding. Additionally, the suit uses parallel technology to the Hoshi to be spaceworthy, but builds on that micro-tech to include gravity tolerances to the suit.

The poorly-named vest got its moniker from the fact that it allows you to fly and swim. Because there wasn’t something from an anime with a better name, that’s what Karrie went with and insists on calling it. The Duck Pack has swim bladders and a parachute; the latter is micro-tech, light-weight and self-folds into a very small compartment. The bladders stores air throughout the vest in micro-pockets through the vest.uit.

Survival Vest

While Kei was being both helpful in design advice, and being a insufferible aviation nerd, Karrie decided to make a special version of her "Duck" vest for Kei and her operator, May.

The Cormorant Survival Vest has swim bladders throughout the vest, and a parachute; the latter is micro-tech, light-weight and self-folds into a very small compartment on the back.

The bladders store air throughout the vest in micro-pockets throughout the vest unit, making it somewhat buoyant, leaving the wearer unencumbered for swimming, and this factor can be adjusted to adapt to equipment added to the vest. The air bladders can be fully deflated as well so the wearer can dive underwater.

A supplemental collar can be orally inflated, or via a CO2 cartridge, greatly enhancing the buoyancy of the vest, making it a proper life preserver. The added storage pockets, and space for more add-on pouches through tactical loops was a bit of a bonus. The modular design itself allows for greater ease of repair.

This wrist comp is the product of years of twicking the computer it is about 20 years ahead of anything marketed now.

The Wrist comp is basically a 15x8x3 cm box made of ceramic-polymer shell (mirotech -6 steps, 12op)

It has a holographic projector that creates an image 50x 25x25cm in size (2 op)

The wrist comp has voice recognition and a DNA scanner built in to protect it(uses user skin cells that rub off) (4op)

Data disk is a 50x25x3 mm crystal that can hold 6.5 Tb of information.

The Measuring Glove fulfills Karrie’s desire to touch everything while allowing her to take measurements of it. The Gloves uplink to her laptop, dumping all of the data they collect into her measurement program. The gloves measure the exact measurements and chemical composition of the subject, down to their atomic levels. When used on a living creature, they can measure the exact status of that creature at that time. The palm of the gloves can also “see” into the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums and view them on the microscopic level at a factor of 10.

This rugged tablet computer, designed by Tokyo University for use by Department 0 Operatives and Agents in the field, incorporated a rugged, waterproofed, hardened frame. Capable of interfacing with other computer devices, as well as interfacing with any Department 0 HUD, the Omoikane is the go-to field equipment for data sharing, communications, and navigation. It comes with all the basic features one would expect in a tablet, but with the add-ons that one would demand from a Nova-Headed research group within a national nova organization. Comes with an optional waterproof sleeve that can be blown up by mouth to allow the tablet to float if dropped into water.

After several casualties during earthquake and tsunami relief efforts due to accidents, Department 0 Commissioned Mitsubishi to modify their "Hoshi" space suit for terrestrial operations. Using advanced ballistic polymers to toughen the suit, a support pack for an emergency air supply, and an integrated life vest folded into the neck section of the integrated harness of the suit, allows the wearer complete safety in a hazardous environment for one hour per charge. An external backpack (requisitioned separately) comes with a re-breather scrubber unit that allows for extended operations beyond the standard hour time period. The suit itself, while not recommended for space use, can be used in a vacuum where protection from radiation is provided.

The suit has become popular among younger agents for it's resemblance to a Sentai uniform, also because of it's durability, it's become the suit of choice for motorcycle experts in the field.

The suit can be custom colored to the whim and fancy of the wearer. It is recommended by D0 Protocol that all suits used in rescue operations be colored either primarily International Orange, Red, or Yellow.

F-35N DSA Joint Strike Fighter

(While a Advancement Gadget, this cannot be acquired as a gadget owned by PCs, or as a vehicle owned by the PCs. For constant use, the character needs a minimum of Backing •in the DSA to use on a constant basis. Players may be requisitioned this aircraft in a plot (Which will hopefully be returned in one piece).)

The F-35N is based off of design concepts tested and put into production of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter project. Incorporating design features of the F-35A, F-35B, and F-35C models, the F-35N is the concept of the best of all worlds for a strike platform design for non-flier Novas. It is also re-designed to be operated with an extra passenger, with two seats available for use. The back seat is generally the RIO (Radar Instrument Operator) seat, but can be used as a backup pilot seat if the main pilot is unconscious or too impaired to fly. It's also made long flights possible as one pilot sleeps and the RIO takes over flying duties. (Note the illustration is of the base F-35, the fuselage is extended forward to accomodate a second ejection seat and flight console.) The modified canope has two independently opening sections, allowing a passenger capable of flight to disembark or to allow a independent ejection without ejecting both on-board.


The Aircraft is designed for VTOL take-offs and landings, Capable of reaching Mach 1.6, And if needed can make carrier-based takeoffs and landings via carrier-based resources (Catapult and Tailhook). This design also incorporates more cutting edge technology built using research by the DSA's think-tank over the past 5 years in parallel with the JSF project that created the F-35.

There are currently only 5 F-35Ns in operation and there are no plans to add more to the DSA fleet due to the current DSA budget. Most are kept in hangars throughout the US while the 5th is currently attached to the team of Kei Nakano and May Ewart.

Based off of the Jet Fighter in the core rulebook with these changes (Marked in bold)

The "Corvus" Stealth Cloak

After seeing what Karrie could do with the "Sexeh Leatherness", Kei decided to commission a cloak that instead of having a armor factor or a force field, could make kei invisible! Also allowing it to take any color Kei needed/wanted. A hidden bit of the fabric in the hood can be brought over the face to close up the hood completely to facilitate 100% coverage from head to toe, in fact the act of pulling this over the face triggers the invisibility function of the cloak. Kei's cloak has the DSA logo present on it, although it's location or visibility can be changed.

The Ultimate device for Doctors. this Device is 1.5x2.5x2 meters resembling a bulky glass-lidded coffin on a solid pedestal. it has a advance computer with sophisticated surgical programs and general physiological data of all known illines

The devices uses protocells ( artificially pre-program cells) to preform complex operations and medical treatments without the open surgery that is commonly used in current day. The protocell can support damage or disease cells and replace or reprogram them as need. This allows gene manipulation to correct malfunction cells by having the protocells to replace the cells and cause the body to replace new cells with information stored within. This process makes current medical treatments easy and allows other surgery were previous conciderade too dangerous to operate on the patient now can be done safely and without compilation.

Note: the Doctor still require the knowledge to preform it. This simple gives the doctors the tool to use it.

Hull Steel

A new alloy of Titanium, Iron, Tungsten, and other trace metals. The alloy was designed by Nate to fill the need for a lighter stronger metal for use in space related applications. He got the idea from the movie, Star Trek IV, in which Scotty had to get some Transparent Aluminum to add a whale tank to their ship. Using techniques recently discovered Nate has taken his new material into the Sci-fi age by making a truly transparent alloy strong enough for use in a ships hull.

The new metal is 50% lighter than steel and 25% stronger, but due to the process of it's manufacture, is completely transparent.

Nate has taken steps to protect his intellectual property in terms of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. However, he understands that it is something that should not be made held back and so has set licensing fees relatively low to make it affordable for use as widely as possible. Due to it's properties of strength, transparency, and scratch resistance, it has obvious applications as everything from Iphone screens to spaceship hulls. He is not trying to manufacture it himself, except for the quantity needed to make his own space ship, but instead has taught the process to several manufactures around the world who pay him yearly license fees.

(Note that this is not yet in play, but is currently being researched and developed.)

Hull Steel:

Hull Steel is a transparent alloy of titanium, tungsten, and several other metals that has strength and durability 30% beyond modern steel and titanium alloys. The new alloy is capable of resisting the negative effects of space as well as surviving reentry. More importantly, because the material is completely transparent it is an ideal substance for everything from ship hulls, to replacing the glass surface of an iphone or ipad or other electronic devices. Because of it's light weight it can also be used for such purposes as replacing bulky and heavy bullet proof glass in automobiles and banks. There are literally thousands of uses for it and Nate has licensed it's manufacture at reasonable rates such that he will get more money through making a few cents off every piece instead of by gouging those who want to buy it. He knows it will be a revolutionary material and wants to share it with the world.

This is also the basis of Nate's 5 dots of Resources

Quantum Capacitor:

The Quantum Capacitor was designed to provide power in both quantum energy and electrical for Nate's space ship, but could be used just as easily as a power source for anything else. One Q-Capacitor could provide enough power for several standard homes. A ship like Nate's would require several capacitors to ensure adequate power at all times for all systems.
