Kane Knight
Okay, of late, I've recovered a few of my old crew, and blackmailed a couple new people into playing, so it looks like I may have an Aberrant crew. In making drafts of characters, I've become reminded of one of the character creation gripes being the two step process and the values not being equal. So just for kicks and Quantum-Powered giggles, I decided to run this idea by some people. I averaged out the value of Bonus points to something in the ballpark of .4 Nova Points a pop. Your numbers may vary, I factored in Specialties as a trait worth .5 abilities and initiative as roughly equivalent to background points. This would make the 15 BP you get as a baseline into 6 NP, allowing for one chart. You could throw them into the total NP pool, or keep them seperate and use the 6 only for normal traits as a baseline, or whatever floats your boat.Or it could be an overcomplicated way to get around the notion that Quantum is so ridiculously cheap when Freebies are invloved. Kirby1024
The two-part system works nicely as it is. My general comment on streamlining it is that it's the bonus points that really don't have to be there. You're going to be spending 30NPs anyway, why do you need 15 pissy Bonus points?Although, someone has pointed out to me that people who spend their bonus points on Quantum are plain stupid. Backgrounds are far more useful, much cheaper, and are cheapest at Bonus points. Also, Willpower is dirt cheap here, another Trait that is often overlooked. If you're sinking BPs into Quantum, you really need to look at your character again and ask why...
Kane Knight
Hmmmm...Interesting...I've always felt that backgrounds were cheaper in Nova points.Personally, I'm usually buying specialties to round out my character, backgrounds (Regardlss of what's cheaper, my characters usually need more than 7), and whatnot. But it ain't the trend I tend to see. Sandy Davis
the best streamlining I saw was this. everyone had 200 points. No bonus no nova points.IT was something like Attribute:5Ability:2Specialty:1Background:3Willpower:13Quantum::35Mega-attribute:21Level one power:7Level two power:21Level three power:35taint game you 25 points, and you could get 2 points of taint this way.As it there is little or no reason to buy anything but will power, quantum, or merits, maybe initiative with bonus points. The others cost less, and you get more for your points. If you have more than one way to buy something there is almost always going to be a better and worse ways to buy something.Let's take buying Attribute with bonus points and quantum with nova points. with all your bonus points you get 3 Attribute points. But you could have gotten two points of quantum. Then you go to buying quantum, for 10 nova points you get 2 dots of it.that is fair, right?Wrong..If the polay spent the bonus points on quantum and not Attributes. He could have gotten the same quantum, and 30 Attribute points.Even with will, it is still better to buy quantum with bonus points over will power.to get a will of 10 with bonus points cost 14. to get a quantum of 5 with nova points cost 20. TO get a quantum of 5,and will power of 10 use bonus points for quantum and nova points for will costs 14 bonus points and 12 nova pointsso it is either.14 bonus point, and 20 nova pointsor 14 bonus points and 12 nova points.what would you pick? remember they have the same ends.
