Jiren nodded in acknowledgment. Striding purposefully toward the gym's exit he threw the door open, only to be assaulted by the biting cold of the frigid air outside. "What the-?" The young demon said, a dumbfounded expression on his face as he glanced around at the frozen landscape. "Isn't it a bit too early for snow?"

Shrugging, Jiren turned in the direction of the science building. There would be plenty of time to ponder the unnatural phenomena later on, but for now they had a job to do.

Jiren fell in stride behind the others. The cold hadn't really bothered him, but he was still appreciative of the Fire Lord's magic. "That's definitely better. Thank you Lord Asano," he said, bowing his head slightly in a show of respect.

Catching up to Serena, he regarded her with a pained smile. As much as he wouldn't want to admit it, the hit he had taken earlier was pretty nasty, and if they were going to take out another Sigil, he wouldn't want to be weighed down by his injuries. "Uhm, Serena, I don't suppose I could trouble you for a heal?" he asked. He glanced around at the others. It was embarrassing enough that he was the only one who had taken a hit in the encounter earlier, but even more so that he had to ask for help about it.

Serena nodded. "Let's go then." Allowing Aria and Darrik to lead, Asano again brought up the rear.

As soon as they entered the science building they could all notice the air had a very clammy feel to it, Even though the science building was always the most sterile environment.

"Thanks", Jiren said, returning a knowing smile to Serena as he followed her into the Science building. The spring in his step was back now that his injury was healed.

"Pretty dark in here," he muttered as the group stepped through the building's doorway. Squinting into the gloom, he glanced around at the interior of the building, his eyes scanning furtively for any sign of movement.

  • 2 weeks later...

Aria stood a little ways back, and discorporated into a swarm of spiders again. The mass of it pattered off into the walls, ceiling and floor of the hallway...but one brave spider ventured into the sigil's room and up to the pulsing icon itself.

Jiren watched in silence as the one of the arachnids made its way toward the sigil. Though he would normally have preferred to do the advanced scouting himself, he had to admit that the spider yokai's abilities made her much more suited for the task.

Folding his arms out in front of him, the prince of greater demons sighed, massive shoulders heaving as he exhaled. His eyes darted warily around the room. Hopefully there would be no more unexpected surprises.

Jiren scratched his head. One moment one of Aria's tiny spiders had been walking up to the sigil, when suddenly this huge monstrosity of a spider right there. "Is that some sort of Jurai-gamo secret ability or something?" He asked, a perplexed expression on his face.

It would probably be best to be prepared for any eventuality. Positioning himself between the spider and the others, he assumed a defensive posture, fists clenched and ready to strike in case the giant spider proved to be hostile.

Attack the spider three times if it takes any hostile actions towards the party.

The spider moved with amazing speed, bowling over Asano with its legs, and pinning him to the ground with webbing. It jumped to the roof to avoid Jiren's attacks, all three of them. Glowing red eyes looked back at him, and they could tell this thing was far from normal.

"I think Aria should have waited like she always does!" Darrik snapped before speaking an Incantation. "Shadow's Rain!" The hail of dark bolts spilled forth again, and covering the range from floor to roof.

(skipping Aria, it's been a week since the last post)

Aria seemed frozen with indecision as she considered how best to proceed. Serena's eyes began to glow, and a black flame formed around her hand to lash out at the spider, burning away one of its legs. Asano spent his time freeing himself, and growled as fires licked out from him.

(I'm skipping Glyde Darrik is up now)

The Spider spit a caustic venom at Serena, which splashed along her arm, burning her shirt and skin beneath, causing her to cry out in pain. It once again sought to web Asano, but the flames wreathing him burned them up before they got close. It's final series of moves was to attack Darrik with one leg, and Jiren with another.

(roll defense looking for 17 and 18 respectively, 70 damage a hit.)

Darrik threw himself to one side, barely avoiding the jabbing leg, before bellowing, "Shadow's Rain!" and launching the spell in response. This guardian had been clearly empowered enough to make mincemeat of them all... Darrik scrutinized the spider to wonder what magic was strengthening it, if any.

The wall of the room behind the spider suddenly bent outward, and a chitinous claw burst out. A moment later it burst open, spraying the spider and everyone else in the room with stucco and plaster and bits of wood and insulation.

Standing in the hole was...another giant spider! This one had a humanoid torso about where the head normally began though, like some kind of spider-centaur. It's features were definitely Aria's, though her skin had a greyish cast to it, and fangs poked down from between her lips. Despite the size and bulk of her spider body, she moved with lightning speed...whirling around to point her bulbous abdomen at the other spider...and then spinning a web that draped out over that area, trying to net her copy and restrict its movements!

(Taking narrative license to say that during the last round she moved into the next room over and transformed, hoping to get the drop on the spider by taking it by surprise. Webbing attack does zero damage, but is Tangle 2 and Spreading 2, making it harder to dodge. Attack roll is 16 (rolled in chat.))

Aria's sneak attack managed to bind the guardian in place, While Asano brough the heat, literally. striking with his fire-wreathed claws, he severed all the legs on one side, mortally wounding the Spider, but not before it could sink it's fangs into his shoulder.

A burst of black flame caught the other side of the spider, killing it as it's left half simply disappeared.

There was a flash of light, and then the seal was once again upon the ground, though it was only glowing faintly.

Through the pain of the venom coursing through him, Asano barked out. "Smash the seal, before it recharges."

(ooc whoever wants this can have it)
