[OpNet] Is this normal?

Umm... Something tells me I'm going to have to let a few cats out of the bag. When I was enjoying a little dinner appointment with Conduit, a bit of a... change happened.

I was itching while having a conversation with him, and some skin came off... and... Well, to make a long story short, there was a layer of plyable, flexible, plastic-like skin.

When I show up at the WCK hq to start some work... Don't be too shocked. Please?

Sounds like someone is evolving.

I do so hope that said evolution is undertaken with more direction and sense of control than other aspects of her life.

Good luck, Endeavor.

Alchemist, technological aspect or secret fetish becoming flesh? The mind ponders.

Well, I can tell you one aspect of it.

I was cutting some wires on a Device I'm going to bring over, and the exacto knife I was using slipped. For a sec, I thought I sliced into my finger real good...

I chipped the blade on the new skin... not even a scratch.

Well, after everything I've been through in the past year, with all the fighting and everything, I'm not suprised. If I'm adapting... It's defensive.

And Hugin, at least I didn't get some sort of bug armor or something... It's much more flexible than that, and I don't feel like I've picked up any weight.

Anycase, I'll be at WCK HQ shortly. Waki, you'll get to see me up-close then.

Well, while it's flexible and all, and in the proper lighting I just seem more pale than the average Asiatic Nova, In normal settings you can see my skin seems artificial. There are features. I noticed I have fingerprints still on my fingers, but no where else, and I do not have wrinkles except where my joints are. As you would expect with normal skin.

Thing is, it has no pores or hair outside where one would normally expect. And for it's make-up it's rather flexible and if you tough it it's still moves like normal skin and moves like it.

Thank god it doesn't make sound when I flex my arms and that. That sort of thing would be embarasing. >_<

Another interesting note. I leave fingerprints still as well, so somehow my body still produces the oils that someone with normal skin has. I may have to take a biopsy of a small section of skin to see how my skin does it. Or have someone look at it using a high-magnification microscope to see if there are micro-pores or something.

I am truely facinated by this change. Almost giddy.

I can't really comment on the "theme" aspects of the discussion. Despite that being all the rage on the opnet I don't completely agree with the theories behind it. Also I neither know you well enough to speak knowledgebly nor to guess how this portends your future.

I can advise you to study the material of your skin as carefully as possible and develop at least a theoretical engineering process to create an artificial version of it. Naturally occuring compounds and molecular structure can't be patented which is why drug companies never invest in natural cures. Once you have an artificial process though you can patent that and then own the development.

I'd also not be overly amazed to find this material has properties you haven't mentioned yet, or that you have other developments that you aren't aware of. The skin is the largest organ in any mammal and performs or assists in several functions beyond the obvious of keeping our inside still inside. You either no longer require those functions and assists or the material continues to perform them which would be an astouding development for a basically synthetic material. It is a little puzzling you would secret oils as that serves no purpose biologically in a polymer skin but then nova developments often make little physical sense while making excellent psychological sense.

Good luck.

Hmmm... That's not necessarily a good thing as it can arise from disruptions of normal chemical processes within the body and even some altered brain activity.

It seems like I say this quite a bit; I would recommend seeing a paraphysician for more than just admiring the new skin.

In other words; someone more intelligent than I am, feels that their skin being replaced by an non-naturally occuring polymer without their noticing and being giddy on the subject, doesn't merit a check up with a doctor?

The irony is staggering.

I wasn't aware you'd been institutionalized. I'm not sure whether to be apologetic about it or incensed that you'd think I was in anticipation of anyone going through that again.

I was, for a nervous breakdown. But someone helped me piece myself back together again.

I think the only reason why I was happy for this sudden change, is the fact I... well.. might be a little tougher.

I think also I was giddy because it might prove I theory I have regarding the state of being of a Nova. That we evolve to the needs required.

After this recent rough patch I've been in, I'm not suprised. Although I'm not going to ask anyone to grab a gun and shoot me to see how well this new skin protcts me. >_<

It's just that the Nova state of being facinates me to no end at times in how it comes along. That's all.

We should all be so fortunate. However there's no need to feel territorial where she's concerned. I have no personal interest. And as it was she that put the situation up for comment, perhaps its her you should have been reminding.

In any event, whatever train of thought she's riding is hers to ride.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, I guess it's out with the loofah and bring in the squeegee?

Okay, I guess it's up to me to ask.

How about your body hair? Still there? Still packing a patch of pink over your pink? Got eyebrows? Are they still hair or are they like those rubber hairs that make up Koosh balls?

Do you still have moles? Pigment? Nipples? You sweat? Hows the sense of touch? You still detect heat and cold?

Lotsa questions.

Body Hair: It seems to be a polymer strand, same thickness as a normal hair, but not of normal makeup. Also all the hair I should have is in the right places.

Skin features: I do not have any blemishes anymore, even the scar on my leg I've had since before my eruption is gone. But, I still have fingerprints and some skin texture on the hands and the same sort of markings on the feet. The rest of my skin is quite smooth. Although I am still "anatomically correct", if you're THAT curious.

Sensory capability: All there, although I'm a little more sensitive to cold. I imagine it's because of the skin's new state.

All in all Lemmy, other than a change of complexion and other minor things, and the fact my skin is like a plastic or latex like material... that's quite resilient I might add... I feel quite normal.

Then again, I'm sure now you're going to have more fantasies now that I'm a walking love-doll now, eh Lemmy?
