[OpNet] Somebody's done a Corona on me...

Welp, everybody, I am officially the 'star' of a 'live' OpNet broadcast involving an orgiastic cult on a tropical island.

For the geniuses who came up with that idea, I'd like you to know that I will find you eventually. Don't worry, I won't kill you - I have to admire such creativity.

But I do intend to sue for breach of copyright and for my share of any profits made from this broadcast.

I'll even edit it for mistakes you guys made. wink

Hope you've got a good lawyer.

Hmm.

It's not unheard of for a Nova to be able to mimic the appearance of another. Either by changing their reflective index or through an outright illusion. Then there are the shapeshifters.

No, this definately is NOT Samhra. If only I had raw data from a camera. First hand, no transmission or compression quality loss.

Then I could see if it was a trick of light and shadow. If not, I can rule out illusions or light bending.

Then all that would be left would either be a makeup job or a straight-up shapeshifter.

Again, I don't buy this, and that's all I have to say about that.

You think this is somehow related to the scandal involving Amped? While I admit, the MOs have a common factor (sex), two events does not a conspiracy make. It's still within the realm of coincidence.

But perhaps we should be on the lookout for a serial character assassin.

These various scandals are all happening now. Why and for what purpose? Novas makes the news all the time for stuff like this but we here usually don't have these issues but lately they have been happening more and more.

Why do you ask me? You out number my IQ by hundreds of points. Shouldn't you just be telling me what is going on and who is doing it?

Take it from a professional paranoid, Wakinyan, intelligence doesn't equal omniscience. Even if there is a conspiracy (and this board seems like kind of an unlikely target unless it has greater solidarity than I thought), conspiracies are very difficult to unravel from the outside. The good doctor is certainly smart, but that doesn't mean he's been exposed to any of the clues that may be present.

Panicking and wondering why the smarter board members haven't already figured everything out won't help anything. If there is something sinister going on (and I'm trying not to assume that there is), the smartest man in the world can be as vulnerable as the dumbest under the right circumstances. Patience and investigation are the keys to survival. I understand that you're concerned about the other board members, but patience and a close eye on the potential clues will help more than worrying.

Okay ... I gotta say this ...

Singularity, you are a lucky man ... even if this was just the cheap knock-off, the real thing must be super-special. Congrats.

Wakinyan, patience. Imagine this as a chess game when both sides are moving simultaneously. The outcome is closer to call and the effects of every movement hasn't been felt yet. Of course, its harder to do when the chess pieces are your friends, bleeding and suffering, but learn, remember, and look toward the future. There is a personal lesson in this for you as well.

Chess game? Fucking flip the god damn board and punch your opponent in the face until they say you win or they stop moving.

I might look more like a sphinx than the megabrains but I don't play games with people's lives! Why do I seem to be the only one to care? I didn't know Conduit's parents or Mythic's friends. I never got to pet Sakurako's cat. And I don't like seeing people I care about get drug through the mud or have bombs strapped to them!

It's be enough that I have to sit in here day after day because of stupid mistakes but it is worse to think that I am the only one who seems to want to save their friends from the pain and humility of what is happening.

And that, Wakinyan, is the big question. Who is the opponent?

Also, don't toss the board, because it happens to be the Planet Earth and near-orbit, as far as I can tell. I keep my stuff here, and I'm not alone in that.

The point would be to not make more victims, but to deal with the one, or ones responsible, would it not?

For what it's worth, Wakinyan, I've never met any of you, and I don't want to see any of you injured or attacked indirectly. But after about five years of panicking whenever I suspected a conspiracy, I've learned that panicking only makes things worse. If you think the U.S. Government is out to control your mind (not actually one of my delusions, but a common one in general), you don't start killing random postmen.

Without patience and understanding of your opponent, you're essentially taking your anger out on uninvolved parties, and then you simply fall into the trap of hopeless violence that your opponent no doubt hopes that you'll fall into.

This is not to say that I'm opposed to violence entirely. If there is a conspiracy, and the perpetrator is found, I would not be averse to breaking a bone or two personally, or to allow those who were deeply hurt to kill this person. But you can't "punch the opponent" if you're too full of wild anger to find them in the first place. This chess board is too wide, and there are as many players as there are pieces.

Yeah, letting the whole public world of novas know exactly what you're going to do... or that you're even gonna do something. Shit, someone better tell India and Pakistan they need to send each other post cards with tactical and strategic plans before they attack each other.

Don't hold your breath, furball: real steps towards fixing this situation ain't gonna be done in a public forum.
