Description: An affliction inherited from her Mother causes Coraline Boehm's features to slowly and continually shift to such an extent that her description from one day to the next completely changes, even before she triggers her ability to alter her form. She does have a few tells though, an almost eerie grace in motion, her white on black eyes, and a voice that carries the hint of a dozen others when she speaks especially when she's upset. She favors her eufiber at all times, enjoying the feel of a fabric as mutable in form as she is. Two addition of preternatural beauty, the first after her family slew their first Motherhunters and a much larger surge during Apothesis and afterwards, has colored all her forms, both complicating and simplfying her self-proclaimed role as the family's eyes and ears in the world.

History: One of Coraline's first memories growing up is being carried by her Father as her family fled an attack by Utopian Mother Hunters, bullets and explosions and chaos tearing apart the small cabin where she had spent the first year of her life. It was a pattern that would repeat time and again, the three of them settling somewhere out of the way and living off the grid, a period of peace and happiness, and then discovery and flight, sometimes cleanly, sometimes by the edge of a knife. The last time… the trap caught them, and Coraline's parents were killed helping the then 10-year-old 2nd Generation Nova escape and hide in a nearby forest. She knows, it had been her senses straining to keep track of their distinctive heartbeats as she fled, a piece of her soul breaking when each heartbeat stopped.

There, she was found by the Traveler and reluctantly went with him, having nowhere else to go. The years since have seen her grow into both her powers and a desperate, stubborn conviction that, perhaps perhaps, she could find and expose the people who killed her parents, who killed so many of the 2nd Generation's nova parents and unborn peers. She doesn't get Baselines, much as she trying to learn how, not that she trusts a lot of people outside of the small group she's been raised with. Coraline liked to keep to herself in her free time, either dabbling in her art hobby or indulging her unadulterated love of speed in the Danger Room where she can avoid detection from Baselines and their Slaves.

She deeply loves her foster family for all their myriad faults, and while she has no intention of dying, she places their safety far ahead of her own, part of the reason she volunteered to be part of the 'colateral' against DeVries' betrayal in the dealings they're having with the group. And then a what she can only recall as a 'Perfect Moment' in the Rainbow Room with a young Nova named Norman resulted in her being the first member of her family, and quite possibly her generation, to Apothesize in the public eye. So much for being the careful one. Her protective scope has expanded outward from her family to include all her generation and those affected by the tragic monsters known as the Trogs. She now works to build a team, ironically that she's leading, and an alliance to save lives day to day and root out the shadowy puppetmasters known as the Aeon Society.

Description: For most novas, death is pretty much the same thing as it is for baselines - the end. A few novas have learned how to sidestep that insurmountable obstacle, although it’s a risky process. Reincarnation allows a nova to avoid her own death by transferring her mind out of her current body and into another. The nova’s power rating sets the rate at which nova’s new body will become fully “operational” in terms of her nova capabilities. Whenever the Storyteller feels that the nova’s circumstances are appropriate- the details will vary with the technique used - the nova can spend 3 quantum points to roll Stamina + Reincarnation. If the roll is successful, the nova can spend 1 permanent Willpower point to abandon her previous body and inhabit a new one, although second generation novas can spend 12 quantum points instead. If the roll fails, the quantum points are wasted and the nova remains stuck in her dying body. If the roll botches, the nova dies permanently right then and there. A nova with Reincarnation will only have one of the following techniques in order to cheat death, with the technique chosen by the nova’s player with the Storyteller’s approval.

Rebirth

Range: (Quantum + power rating) x 1,000 kilometers

The nova can reincarnate herself as the unborn child of a random pregnant baseline woman who is within range of her old body, and will be reborn as an infant within (power rating - 6) weeks, down to a minimum of 1 week. The number of successes the nova gains on her Reincarnation roll will indicate how desirable her new incarnation’s parents and living situation will be in her opinion. If the nova gains five or more successes, she can even choose the gender of her new incarnation. Otherwise the Storyteller has full control over the details (such as ethnicity) of the nova’s new incarnation, and can either choose them or determine them randomly. If there are no suitable pregnant women within range but a fertile woman is, the Nova may impregnate them with a clone of herself and be reborn in nine weeks instead. While the nova must go through physical childhood and adolescence all over again, fortunately the process will be somewhat abbreviated. For every 2 dots of Reincarnation possessed by the nova (rounded down), she will effectively gain 1 level of the Accelerated Maturation enhancement. Until maturity is reached, the nova will also have a variant form of the Adolescent/Child Flaw that will not limit her Intelligence-based Abilities and provided no freebie points. The nova’s full quantum capabilities will be regained (10 - power rating) hours after her rebirth, although her base Strength and Stamina will be limited as per the Adolescent/Child Flaw. The other drawbacks are those usually associated with reincarnation; namely the loss of Backgrounds tied to her previous incarnation unless steps are taken in advance to retain them, and the nova’s assured death if there are no suitable women within range for her to be reborn to when she makes her Reincarnation roll.
