Blue light spread over Kai, and Dylandiel as the Avatar came closer, towering over both of them from behind.

"That's enough," she said. "It's over. There will be judgment, and justice, by the law of the Empire. Until then, he's not to be harmed further."

The Avatar unraveled, and Lily descended to the ground amidst the last fading glow of the heart.

"As much as I know how tempting it is," she said angrily, "I don't want to give up our honor, and courage, just to take revenge. He'll face the consequences of his acts. That has to be enough."

She put a hand on Kai's shoulder and turned him around, and her eyes were swimming with unshed tears.

"Thank you for saving my father, and the others." And with that she drew him in for a very heartfelt kiss.

Kai returned the Kiss, the broken man behind him forgotten. In truth he'd really done all this for Lily, and that she felt as he did reassured him.

As everyone was wrapped up in this, they failed to notice that not all the Reiki had been vanquished. The knife appeared, about to be thrown at the Emperor, and the final member of the team knew he had a split second to act, the shot would reveal him if he took it.

The momentary calm in the throne room was shattered by the muffled report of two silenced gunshots.

Moments later the knife-wielding assassin collapsed to the ground with a sickening thud, blood spurting from the fresh new set of holes in the side of his head. His weapon clattered down on the throne room floor beside him just as a strange figure clad in a dark blue armored suit suddenly appeared just a few strides away from him.

"This is Specter-One. The remaining hostile has been neutralized," the figure said over his comm link as he lowered his still smoking assault rifle. "... Permanently."

The man let out a long sigh as he turned to face the startled stares of everyone else in the room. Their expressions spoke for themselves. He didn't need to do any mind-reading to realize that they weren't about to let him walk out of this one without some sort of explanation.

He ran a hand through his short blond hair. Pulling back his visor to reveal a pair of icy blue eyes, he paused before throwing a quick salute in Kai's direction.

"Commander Lance Buckwalter of Satoshi's Specter Unit," he said, stepping out of the shadows and into the light. "I was sent to provide additional security for you and your team."

Kai, his arms still encircling Lily, looked first at the assassin, laying dead behind the Throne, and then to Lance. "Welcome to the team, Commander. Nicely done."

Ruri's voice was next to be heard, but only by Lance. "Roger that Specter-1, I assume you will exercise discretion in your explanation, if need be Tell Captain Morisato it's SC-3 Classified, he will understand."

“Well, that bit of nastiness is resolved,” Skye said, her expression almost jovial. But in truth, her hands were shaking as she realized how close the Emperor had come to dying. She couldn’t show it, though – what would she say or do? So she just watched Lily and Kai and the Emperor with sad eyes and missed Kazuo. He’d have known what to do – not what to say, because, c’mon, this was Kaz. But he’d have done something to draw her mind off of all of this drama.

“What’s the next step?” Skye asked after a moment. “I know Stumpy there needs a trial, but what about after that? Or before?” The inhumanly lovely priestess shrugged elegantly. “You know, if you need to retitle all the nobles, I have a few suggestions. Some very lovely people I’ve met in my stay here.” She gave the Emperor a charming smile. It didn’t reach her eyes.

Rebecca opens a channel to Kai over a secure, encrypted line. "Head Captain, I was unaware you had a black-ops asset sent down to assist. Then again, if I was he'd not be much of a black-ops asset to begin with."

She then speaks over general coms to the team. "I'm not here to be a noble, Skye. I'm just a test pilot, and always will be." She says, shaking a leg. "I've already found my place." She says, looking at a picture of her taken with Midiri from the orphanage. "And a purpose."

Kai shook his head and replied over he secure comm. "Nor was I." He looked over to Lance. "Just out of curiosity commander, who ordered your mission?"

Looking to Skye he nodded. "My people won't be nobles, and we will have no part in how the Empire governs itself. We're here for an Alliance, nothing more."

The Emperor nodded. "You could have more Kai. Make it official, in fact it will almost be so when I make the formal announcement."

He looked at Kai. "Unless you have no interest in being official Fiancee and Consort of the Crown Princess and heir to the throne of Dalaraan."

"It may be time for other houses to rise, for the old lords to be reminded of who rules, and that favor can be bestowed, and it can be taken away just as easily."

"That decision rests with me, but You Daughter, " He looked to Lily" Will have to live with it."

He looked to Skye. "As Priestess, you have duties as well. I know you were pressed into this, so I will ask of you only what I must. for now though, the people need to see you here, as part of the healing."

He looked to Ryoko. "You stand as Regent, for me as I near my end, and for my daughter until she comes of age. I ask you to continue to do so, knowing that I have forgiven the past, and that you have the faith of Tsunami and myself placed within you."

He smiled. "Your parents would be so proud of you Ryoko, of who you've become."

Kai had heard the rest, but one word really stood out, and he was fairly certain it gave Lily the same pause it gave him. Fiancee?!?!

Lance paused, glancing around at everyone in the room before replying. He was obviously uncomfortable about having this discussion in front of so many people. "Unfortunately sir, the parameters of my mission are SC-3 classified. I'm currently not at liberty to say more than what I've already told you at this point," he said regretfully with a slight nod of his head.

"At least not in front of the others."

Skye rolled heart-shattering blue eyes. “What is up with you people?” she asked grumpily. “Why would any of you be qualified to be Daralaan nobles when none of you are even part Daralaan? Seriously! What egos!” The operative who operating under classification but refused to talk about it despite being right there only annoyed her more. Right now, she kinda wished Kai would leave and take his Satoshi secrets and assumptions and let her tend to the Daralaan people.

As the Emperor spoke, Skye listened. Her expression softened a little as she watched the man and her smile was oddly gentle. “Anything I can do to help, your Highness,” she said with that same smile; apparently the old man had won over the pretty girl. “Just name it.” Her fingers touched the hilt of Alaric’s sword, tracing the wrappings lightly.

With a smile that was actually a little shy, Lily disengaged from Kai and went to her father's side and smoothed her hand over his thinning hair.

"There'll be plenty of time for you to render judgement and make edicts and be Emperor. Right NOW though, you need rest. I promise, Dalaraan and the Empire will still be in your hands when you wake up."

She leaned over to kiss his forehead.

"Thank you."

Rebecca scratches her head... Must have mistook what she meant... then again, I refused... I doubt that's a sign of ego.

Rebecca leans back in her seat and puts her feet up. "Well guys, although I'm impressed with how this ended, I still think we need to keep our guard up until we're sure things are stabilized again."

She opens her helmet and pulls a water bottle out from a storage cabinet. "Head Captain... should we keep the Honor Guard here to protect the Emperor until we're sure everything is alright?" She says, taking a drink. "I would be honored to assist in that mission."

Kai nodded, understanding the code. "So she sent you, very Well Commander."

He ignored Skye's outburst, technically if he wanted the Empire as a vassal of Earth he could have it, and the Emperor and everyone else knew that. They didn't have the might to deal with the forces he had, let alone the other six he could bring if the need arose.

The Emperor looked at Lily and nodded. I have abit more time yes, later though, there's something we need to discuss."

He looked to Tsume, and nodded. "Will you and your people continue to be a part of this Empire Tsume, equal partners now, in all things?"

The offer itself was staggering. Tsume looked at him, then at Lily, then Kai."

"We will uphold the Empire, so long as there is honor to be found. here."

Kai nodded. "I don't think it is necessary Lieutenant, but just in case, for the next twenty four hours I want the guard in place. Call in a couple squads to clean up the palace, and repair the damage."

"Affirmative. Squads 2,4,6 you got clean up, the rest of us stand guard. I got the front entrance. Anyone has a beef, they take it up with me."

The Seatalon moves from her position and walks a few steps with a swagger before slowly lifting off from the docks of the naval research base. "Oh, and Squad 10, you have lifeguard duty as the crews from the abandoned ships arrive."

Rebecca heads to the Palace under her standard thrusters, still adequate to arrive in a few minutes from a 50 kilometer embarking point. She thinks to herself though, on just how fast this crisis was put down... She keeps from entertaining her nervous thoughts, they would betray her. Yet there is the facts. Something is wrong and until she sees every loose end resolved she's not letting her guard down.

Francis supposed that a secret unit... if not expected... well, he could understand the classified information there. There were 'need to knows' and mission critical back in the old days of the future.

With Nagareboshi holstered again, he smiled at Kai. "Congrats on getting married to the love of your life. I'm sure matrimony will do you some good."

Kai looked at Francis. "I just turned eighteen Francis."

He looked at Lily and nodded. "Besides, it's not up to just me."

He looked at the others. "let's go. We should let the Emperor rest, we can discuss other matters later."

He looked to Tsume. "If you like I can escort you back to your ship, Lord Tsume."

The grey wolf smiled and nodded. "I would be honored." He looked to Lily, and the Emperor, who nodded.

With that agreement the gathering began to dissipate. Those with Satoshi went back to the ship. Lily, Ryoko, and Skye remained with the Emperor."

"Tomorrow daughter, Tomorrow We begin the rebirth of the Empire."

Dylandiel, still there could only laugh. "Nothing will change old man. Nothing will ever change."

(this ends this chapter 5 cp to everyone.)
