Well it's been about 48 hours on the job now.

By my estimation I have saved almost 600 people from some form of harm. Covering the area of Northern VA all the way to Baltimore. I of course cannot save everyone and I do not expect to but I am doing what I felt I could. I am making a difference and I feel damn good about that.

One thing I have noted is how mundane most of these things are. Car accidents and random criminal acts. No Teragen terrorism, plane crashes or rowdy drunken Nova brawls. Not complaining about that just noting it because this civic commitment is much more a job than the adventure some would consider it.

I hope you all are doing well and consider what I said the other day. One of us doing something is just a drop in the bucket but if we all did a little something we could really accomplish things!

Ally, please, slow down. You're going to burn yourself out at that rate. Even if you're faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, and can leap tall buildings in a single bound, you've still got to rest and recharge, just like everyone else.

Even you realize you can't save everyone. So don't kill yourself while trying.

And I love how you think that helping people in car accidents and stopping gang shootings is some sort of fascist statement. I guess Pessimism is a taint after all.

It is easy to know when you are helping people that you are doing the right thing. Try it sometime Noir you might understand then.

Oh? You -know- that person behind the wheel is not wanting to kill themselves?

You -know- that the gang shooting is not going to lead to justice? And for that matter, you -know- that it -is- a gang shooting? You -know- it not something else?

Because we all know that things are -always- as they appear.

No, -you- know, though that is only by -your- sense of morality and right & wrong and you are imposing it on other pople regardless of thier wishes or views. So yes, continue imposing your morality on people and keep those jackboots polished. After all, you want them to look good when they are stomping on other people's wishes and views.

Sorry Noir you are are reading like a bad philosphy textbook. I will keep things firmly in reality.

If they want to commit suicide then they can without endangering others. If they want to kill someone then they are disregarding the others right to exist. These are pretty straight forward things really.

Frankly you are grasping at straws and it means little to nothing to me. Call me a Jack boot thug all you like it won't matter. I am doing what is right by my heart.

I wonder where your heart is.

If one can not impose one's sense of morality on the world, what can one impose? All that can be truly expected is that one impose as politely and reasonably as possible.

...

Noir, you are attempting to change Ally/The-World by presenting your point of view in a convincing manner, is it not so? So long as he does not preclude individual's opportunities to return to their destructive courses, after diverting them, his undertaking and yours do not seem fundamentally inequivalent.

...

They may, however, be fundamentally inequivalent.

...

Providing service to others as you would want provided to yourself is a reasonable baseline of moral behavior. If you are interested in moral behavior but your morality is divergent from societal requirements, you should be pleased when/if your behavior amended by societal restrictions.

...

Or not.

I wish you would keep things in reality rather than the world you are currently living in.
And before you comment about “bad philosophy” I would suggest you listen yourself first.

Right to exist? Okay, who determined this is a ‘right’ and is there is nothing one can do to forfeit that ‘right’?

Hey. If the jackboot fits…

That has been used to justify so many atrocities in mankind’s history. I am glad to see that nova history will be no different. So what is right by your heart is right for –everybody- else? It is right for all those whom you impose your morality on?

You do? Well, to answer your quest, it is in about the same location within my body as it would be in the body of any other human or nova approximating my height and weight and who’s internal organs/structure have not been altered by genetic abnormality, medical procedure, physical trauma or eruption.

Oh, and Xeno, I am attempting to change nothing. I was simply pointing out how much I was enjoying Ally imposing his/her/it’s morality on others regardless of their own.

Well, we can accept the reality that we are currently living with one another, suffering the morality of one another, or we can try to make others live within our own morality. What gets interesting is not what happens when we fail ... we fail all the time ... but what happens when one succeeds.

Ally, good job. Doing the on-the-spot work can be really tough. Be careful with what comes next.

You're doing more than a drop in the bucket. Not every disaster is Nova made or Natural. Sometimes it's the everyday emergencies that are important.

Just don't stretch yourself too thinly...

I think it is all a matter of scope. I find it easier for me to just deal with the problems as they come. Keeping it simple allows me to act decisively. I have been turning down all interviews. I don't want much publicity at least no more than lead by example.

Aren't you afraid that you're only treating symptoms and not the cause? Wouldn't a more holistic approach of creating a "fail safe" or "no accident" environment save so many more people than just picking off the problems just before they're (for lack of a better term) consumated?

Not at all Mr. Alden.

It is not my job to correct social ills. I am not here to change the way society works. I do not presume to be an authority on civilization or human behavior. Granted that means more work for me but I do not mind. Mankind will iron out the way all this works and I do not need to get involved in that part of the social engine.

All I want to do is save lives and make things better in the moment. Perhaps I am being simple but I just do not feel it is my place to impose my will on the greater social order. (Though for some reason Noir thinks I am already doing so) I consider what I am doing a humble but immensely rewarding work.

I understand what you're doing isn't necessarily a social statement, Ally. From what I understand, you're trying to save lives and improve the world by stopping accidents and the like. What I was proposing wasn't social engineering but preventing accidents in a (arguably) more efficient way.

For example, you rescue a number of South African citizens every rainy season when the rivers flood. Or you could help create and enact flood reduction project that would alleviate the need for you to stop by South Africa every year. Another example: let's say you save five hundred people a year who use Acme brand automobiles, which ignite when rear ended. Instead of having less time to save others because you're busy stopping accidents caused by the Flamberge cars, you could design an inexpensive modification that could be installed through a painless and cheap recall. Or you could even design and market a safer, cheaper, and better car.

You could say I'm asking why you're working harder instead of smarter. wink

Simply put there are others out there who can do those jobs you suggest better than I can.

I am not an Automaker or hyrdological engineer. I accept the fact that I am doing grunt work and I am most pleased by it. Let Novas do what they are good at. I am good at the simple work I am doing. Let the Novas with minds capable of engineering cars and dams do that. If they ask I won't mind doing some work to help build a dam just do not ask me to design it.

I guess you could say I am being a simpleton about all this but the thanks you get from pulling a family from a river or stopping bullets from a driveby from killing innocent people is so rewarding. That kind of reward is all I really need.

I am not going to point fingers at anyone here. But after the whole Ibiza fiasco we really need to improve our image that we are not all a bunch of selfish materialistically debauched thugs.

Just another example of you missing the point entirely and now even resorting to making up lies. I never said a word about "greater social order". You are imposing your morality on people regarless of their own morality. Essentially the "might makes right" idea. But I am sure you will even fail to understand that too.
