[OpNet] Opinions on Nova Battle Zones

Lee Jones

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know, I travel the world using my perceptive and analytical abilities to assist other archaeologists with their field work.

I was recently offered a spot on a team that will be going to various nova battle zones including Kashmir. My role there would be to conduct an archaeological survey. I wanted to get your opinion on the matter. Do you think it should be done? I'm not really looking for anything in particular, just trying to get the opinions of other novas.

On a related note, my second solo book will be coming out on wednesday. I'm very excited, although I've been co-author on dozens of publications and senior editor on twice as many more, I've never really had the time to do my own research or publish more then a journal article.

This book is about some work I did on a site on the eastern coast of Russia. You will probably have to order it as most bookstores will not be carrying it. It wasn't intended for a general audience, but I am making a verzion that will be. It'll be jam packed with pictures and anecdotes. That should be in stores in a month.

Now that I am making more time for my own research I will have several book published in the near future. Atleast one should be coming out within the year. Stay tuned.

You will be acting simply as a member of the archeological staff?

I will be the director of the archaeological side. I'm not sure how many people will be hired to work with me. So essentially yes.

And you will be, for example, going into Kashmir to perform a dig?

I doubt that we will perform a full dig. I will be conducting a survey of each area to assess what archaeological remains are there and their importance. Again, yes.

What is there in Kashmir that has not been smashed already?

That's why this team has been assembled. An archaeological survey should answer that.

Hmmm ... got my advance book order in.

Dr. Jones, there are tons of sires left somewhat-to-totally intact throughout the country. Its been the crossroads of trans-Himilayan trade for 5000 years, after all.

Still, with gun-toting locals and trigger happy governments all around, it wouldn't be my top spot for a fun dig, so good luck to you.

If I may (and I don't know your budget):

Hammer and Anvil are a decent DeVries team specializing in emergancy force protection and evacuation.

"MultiGate" Anderson does the some deal, works for DeVries as well, and comes with some special extras.

"Ghost" Haddad is very good at personal protection, and this is his backyard, so he knows whose who and were not to go.

"Advantage" Kyrnn is another good personal protection specialist, with the added advantage that she loves archeology and has actually participated in a few digs herself.

Jager-I don't really know my budget either. I haven't agreed to sign on with them yet so they have kept to themselves about the details.

Although I've been in situations where locals have shot at me, I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Nova attacks are a lot different then disgruntled locals.

One of the key motives to join this group is to see the depositional habits of Novas, specifically elites. I'd like to survey what they'd destroy and what they wouldn't, what they leave behind and what they don't, etc.

Update: I have accepted the job. I'm actually already on a plane. I can't give too many details in the interest of safety. This first season is just an orientation. We'll be stopping at a few sites around the world to figure out what kind of special needs we have. They have just about one of everybody on this trip, Geologist, Biologist, Botanist etc. Should be interesting.

I will, of course, be writing several publications on the matter. One of which will be on the special considerations the Archaeological community needs to take now that there are Novas running around. Some have already touched on the subject, but I'll be devoting an entire article.

I know you all await my next update with held breaths. :P

Just remember to walk away from any engagements, even with baselines forces. Both the Pakisanti and the Indian forces get a little trigger happy at times and Team Tomorrow and the rest of the Utopia peacekeepers are not always available.

Otherwise, enjoy the landscape: it tends to change every month or so when hostilities fire up.

Now, now I would like to take you up on the offer of talking to you.I am on Golden Gate right now. I think I am scaring people. Maybe I should back over the edge?

In any case I would be up for a nice lunch or dinner.

I hope you have fun on your trip.

Well Gypsy Girl. You may have missed it in my last post, but I'm already out of the country. I'd be happy to meet with you when I get back. I should be back in a few weeks. Classes start soon and most of this team are Academic types so we all need to be back home to start the new term.

Singularity-I'll try my best to get the hell out of Dodge when necessary. I really like not being shot, so it shouldn't be hard.

Gypsy Girl-I'm sure we'll run into each other one day. I tend to do a lot of traveling. And now that I'm working more on my own projects, I tend to have more control over my time. So it might be feasible to meet somewhere down the line.

Doctor Crow-Zam?

Edward-It's really not that bad. Generally speaking, even before Novas, any where you go, you're probably pissing somebody off. You just need to keep your eyes open. Luckily, when I concentrate, I can hear a pin drop in the other room so the team should be in good hands.

Alchemist-Thank you

Eris-While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I'd like to comment that A)this is a fairly secretive affair. We don't want people following us around breaking/stealing things. Not that you would do that, but we don't want black market dealers to know that these places have significant value. B)I know that you can manipulate luck, but in the business of Archaeology, finding nothing can be exactly what you want to do.

Singularity-I do have pictures. I'll have an intern get them uploaded ASAP. School's starting so it might take a little while.

Preston, Long, and anybody else that cares-Here's an advanced copy of my paper link. This is the draft that being sent to the Journal that's publishing it. It's only a few pages long. Because it's an introductory kinda thing it's a quick read.
