Dragonriders of Pern

There are approximately 762 Pern novels. Or 21 if Wikipedia is accurate. I enjoyed the first couple but found the later ones veering off into more soap opera than I cared about. I understand the last couple have headed back into Science Fiction, but they're low down on my list of novels to finish before I die. But I really enjoyed the first couple and understand there's a movie on the horizon, written by David Hayter, writer of X-Men, X2 and The Watchmen scripts.

I have no idea what the budget is for hundreds of unique telepathic dragons destroying silver threads falling from space, but I have to assume it would be an expensive film. Hayter has written some good stuff and The Scorpion King, so maybe, with studio support and a talented director who takes the material seriously, we'd see a good film.
