Immortals

Tarsem Singh directed The Fall and The Cell. Both visually interesting movies. He was second unit director on Benjamin Button. His style is lush, gorgeous, compelling, at the expense of the story in the case of The Cell. He has directed a movie about Theseus. Starring the soon to be Superman. Immortals looks ... it's hard to tell from the trailer. I see some of his visual sensibilities. I also see ramping. And I think 300 combined with Clash of the Titans with a metallic version of Frank the Bunny from Donnie Darko.

Greek mythology is hard to do well. The Greeks did not, as a rule, see things quite so ... Pollyannaishly as we do. Hercules was a rapist, a murderer, not exceptionally bright and revered as a hero. I suppose we do the same thing with sports heroes. Because we don't see things quite the same way, we tend to whitewash stuff. I suppose it is the same for Grimm faerie tales that make it to the screen.

This storyline is pulled from IMDB

"Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartarus since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king's hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man's conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion...until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes...."
