[OpNet] Deeeeep Sea Explorers

Typhoon

Recommended Posts

I thought that the any thread for upcoming dive and any preparation thereof should not continue to de-rail Potentia and Iron Rose's debut thread.

And with that in mind:

This undersea excursion to take place in the near future about midway between Japan and Papua New Guinea is to explore the Marianas.

The Expedition should meet in Tokyo about a week prior to the agreed upon date(TBA).

I am recommending that any of you that are intersted but unsure of our ability to survive underwater, join me for an appetizer dive, three days prior, about 200 miles north of Okinawa, there to decend 1000ft down to Ocean floor, to view the final resting place of the WWII battleship Yamato, she is the largest battleship ever built by man, and it took most of the American fleet to sink her, take my word, she is an awesome sight.

As the nuts and bolts of the trip to the Marianas, as it is very dark at about 300m and we will continue down about another 11,000+m.

Side note: From sealevel Mount Everest is 8,850 meters tall, the Marianas is 11,033 meters deep.

,,

If you don't also have the ability to see in total darkness in addition to being able to survive at depth, you may want to consider staying on the Hikai Maru II(Endevour's sub) for it's sonar and varius sensors. I believe (but don't quote me) she will piloted by Tarot.

It should be noted that: Conduit, has proven that he is capable of surviving underwater but is untested at depth, and his electrical abilities could be hazarduous, but I trust him to use his judgement, also, Potentia, if able to join us outside of the Hikai Maru II, in her energy form will more than likly offer a source of light, while this will assist visually, it could also possibly act as a beacon for predators. (Example: Sharks have a finely attuned electrosense, and I have no idea how they would perceive Conduit or most of the rest of us for that matter, but they have a tendancy to bite when curious.)

I'd better join in the first dive. Even though I believe I'll be fine, Tarot raised a good point about overconfidence.

Unaided I can't see in total darkness, but I'll try to design a device to provide light, sonar, and (most important) communications for nova divers at depth, without attracting any predators. If I have enough time to design and build the prototypes, I'll test during the Yamato dive. (Preferably testing with novas who are impervious to shark attack. You called it the "appetizer dive", Typhoon, not me.) wink

Beyond Conduit's electical abilities and Iron Rose's magnetic ones, does anyone have an ability that might disrupt communications? I'm thinking about a comm device that works by sending pulses by active sonar, giving us a view of the area and translating pulses into visible and/or audible messages. Thoughts or suggestions?

You know, I hear the word 'judgement' being thrown around alot. I'm not real sure what it means so I will assume that I'm suppose to electocute everything I see, maybe even kick the sub a few times. :P All kidding aside, don't worry about me, as I use to say when I was a baseline "my shit is in check."

I'll be in Tokyo until Endeavor moves, or longer depending on when this trip occurs. Count me in for the practice dive. I may not be the fastest swimmer, but I'll get you to the surface as quickly as I can. Also sharks won't be too happy if they try to take a bit out of me.

*smirks*

This should be a fine test for my deep-submergence hardsuit.

I did some actual testing of the suit today, and let's say this. My testing facility could not provide a suitable envorinment. The machinery stopped around the depth you announced, Typhoon.

So, I have every confidence in my work. Thing is if anyone can bestow pressure adaptation or whatever it is you guys call it, I'll definately need someone to watch over my shoulders. Just in case.

I will be starting the big move in 2 weeks. That should give everyone an excuse to stop early.

I get to drive the sub?

That's chill. That is so total CHILL!

"Computer put that Mr Spock shit away, fuck off and take a coffee break. Time to light the fires and kick the tires. There's carbon based life in the hizz-ouse and we're here to check the red line specs. Oh yeah, where are the weapons controls?"

laugh

I have my scuba license, yes I do things other than paint which is why I know what Valkyry is like at breakfast, and I was an expert swimmer even before I erupted. I also know how to surf which is why I know how to swim. I can survive total water immersion without breathing for somewhere between 4 and 7 minutes. After that I get cranky. Pressure is okay down to about 220 feet.

Are we bringing guests?

Now, if I'm along and Tarot's driving, and he's starts screaming "Totally Chill", I'm going to freak. In the language of my subculture that means "we are all going to die!" and not "I'm having an orgasmic experience!"

Something to keep an eye and ear on.

*remembers to lock the more... dangerous controls for inexperienced captains...*

There are no weapons on the HM-II. Unless you count the stun-weaponry. A ship like mine may attract people wanting to hijack it for themselves.

And do not worry Jager, the Escape Pods will work even at extreme depths. I made sure of that.

Tarot, I'm the Captain of the boat. You're just my #1.

Okay. Nothing to worry about. Don't waste a second thinking about it. Especially as the airlock is closing and you know I'm sitting in the pilots seat.

Total CHILL!

LOL!

If I hadn't figured the "voice" of your post, I would have thought you were going to steal my ship.

Then again... you wouldn't get far with it...

You sound like someone that didn't make pocket money bypassing lo-jack systems in Los Angeles when they were fourteen. Not that I would know anything about that.

I'm just in it for the new experience. So when the elites at the Amp Room ask questions like whether I've ever been to the depths of the Marianas Trench I can say, "Why yes, I have." That and I want to drag race Typhoon in a submarine. He could beat me in a straight race but I've been looking at the contours of the Marianas Trench and think I can shoulder him out on the hairpin turns and the big big switchback at the north end. I promise to be careful of the paint job.

I feel the need. The need for speed.

Tarot, I was that scrawny kid in the back of the class with her nose always stuck in some sort of book. My idea of exitement was trying to hack the school's mainframe once in a blue moon just to see my mid-terms...

As for the speed of my craft, let's just say I figured out a way to make supercavitation work. You'll get some speed out of my baby alright. Just don't scratch the paint-job.

She's a large ship, and not really meant for "threading the needle".

I was thinking I could step on all the Corral. Maybe introduce a new species. And then I would collect up all the trash from Tokyo and dump it at the bottom.

I'm just joking with you Cull. While I do not agree with your methods or ideals. I do appreciate that at least you know what you want and are honest about it.

Damanor raises a Good Question.

I can send and receive radio transmissions, but the further down we go the more limited my range becomes.
Hopefully Endevour can build a small radio receiver ear piece for most of you to wear that could withstand the pressure, I think we may want to invite a telepath along, unless one or several of you have telepathic abilities(?)that will allow us all to communicate, or a device like the one you describe, if not I could try to hire telepath from DeVries, which I am hesitant to do to begin with.

I should be able to communicate with most of you, for those of you who are able to adapt to the pressure should also be be able to commuicate basically normally with divers immediately nearest you, and if you also have very sharp ears like I do, you should be able to hear the others fine, understanding (hopefully) will be taken care of in a brief training course. I should be able to communicate with the HMII pretty easily as long as we stay close to her.

We will be using the buddy system on both dives, the Buddies will be chosen at random.
I will have everyone hooked to a reinforced polymer-rope to each other on the Marianas dive, that way no one gets lost.

I'm only driving this rig, Ty. Sakurako's the one that built it so we'll see how good an engineer she really is. Should be a heck of a run no matter what.

Did I miss something? Truly memorable sex aside, telepathy is required for this because...?

Communication. I don't know about you, but I surely have never been able to unstand anything somebody has said underwater with the air bubbling out of their math. Then again, I haven't tried since I've erupted, so as far as I know, there may be some way to speak without the air passing through the vocal chords, but water instead, which would eliminate the problem.

Eh, go figure, I can talk to Rianna regardless.

The point I was trying to make is this:
At the depth we will be going to the hand signals and body language that divers usually use to communicate go out the window because some of us will be effectively blind. So we may have to use sound to communicate.

Those of us that find ourselves adapting to the water pressure, do so in such a way that water becomes a safly breathed medium, (Some novas even manifest gills) As such most of us shouldn't have air bubbles spilling out of our mouths.

If you indeed have air bubbling out of your mouth in energy form that would be worth the price of admission right there. laugh

Tarot, if you and the others allow it, you can feed directly off Typhoon's sensations outside the sub, plum the inventors mind to see what capabilities the sub has, and any other ideas/sensations other members of this little gathering have. You could gain a living beings perceptions of events all around you in the special ways they percieve things. Sense magnetics, sonar impulses, echo-location ... even talking with the local fauna if you like.

For the others, they could see the inspiration you find in everyday things and your artistic outlook on the new and exciting things we will all see.

It isn't a loss of individuality, but an expansion on it. I hope I am given the opportunity to share all of this with all of you.

I guess it's pretty unamimous, welcome to the dive, your presence will be expected in Tokyo Bay on or about January 1st to meet and interview you. I'd like to see you on the Yamato dive to see how best we can utilize your abilities.
