Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM): Bleach - [Fic]Meeting The Boys

Kaori Aoyama

Clutching her books tight to her chest Kaori walked hurriedly past the other students in the hallway. She could feel their eyes inspecting every inch of her and she didn't approve of it in the slightest. Her skirt was too short, and it wasn't just her imagination, somehow she'd ended up with a school uniform with a skirt that was slightly shorter than the rest, but none of the faculty seemed to notice. Her jacket was to small, yet still seemed to fit, although with the way it seemed to hike her bosom up it may as well been more a corset than a jacket. The buttons of her shirt stressed slightly and she wondered how, with all their vast resources, could her lieutenant send her here with a sub-par wardrobe. Either way she'd have to live with it, although she'd already sent in a requisition (in triplicate) for clothes that fit her better.

She'd already been here in the real world for over two weeks now, getting her affairs in order and now it was time for her to attend her classes Karakura High School, why she needed to go to High School she had no idea. Then again she didn't understand why sometimes the world faded away into streaks when she ran fast, why men had random nose bleeds, or could levitate in the air for long periods while they flailed their arms and legs about when they were angry. Truth be told, the real world made no sense to her, but the fried chicken was to die for, so to speak.

Her long, straight blonde hair fell down her back and here in Karakura everyone kept whispering about her being 'American', whatever that meant. She pushed her glasses up a bit with her index finger as she entered the class room, not really needing them, but they made for a wonderful disguise with them on and no one would recognize her if she took them off, at least, that's what she'd learned by studying real world material thus far. She could almost feel Mr. Raito's lecherous glare on her as he put his arm behind her back and put her on display for the rest of the class. She could have broken his arm if she wanted to. "Class, I'd like for all of you to welcome our newest student today, Kaori Aoyama. She's joining us all the way from America, so her transcript says despite her obvious Japanese name."

Kaori shrugged it off, the real world just didn't seem to catch on to the simplest of things... like an American girl with a Japanese name. She could see every guy in the class room practically salivating over her already. What she would not give to have Kage in her hand to teach each one of them a lesson in proper respect for a lady.

She bowed but said nothing and walked to her seat. The room was eerily quiet with only the tapping of her heels on the floor echoing for a moment. The men just watched her as she walked, gawking, while the girls in the class already became petty and jealous of the gorgeous new 'American girl'.

She sat down and pushed her glasses up with her index finger.

Jierumi rubbed the sleep briefly out of his eyes. Of late, he was suddenly starting to be overwhelmed by his self-appointed mission, considering that the last couple of weeks had been marked by an upsurge in 'Critter' appearances, one seeming to pop out of the woodwork every night. That and an entirely new phenomenon.

Over the past week, he'd repeatedly sighted strange and clearly 'powered' people in the city and hunting Critters. Strange, as in dressed out of Medieval Japan, and carrying swords. He'd even seen a normal man walk past of of them, look in the direction- and he didn't even seem to notice they were there.

Were they like the Critters, and was the two events connected? In any event, he wasn't sleeping as well as would have been preferable. So though the new girl Kaori was clearly someone who he was going to have a few naughty thoughts about in future nights, he managed to semi-pass it off to himself as over-exaggeration from exhaustion.

And then it became clear she was sitting next to him. So much for easily forgetting about her. Still, he wasn't the kind to stare, and actually didn't seem to possess the look of desire common to the other males in the room, Kaori noticed, had she looked at all. For that matter, he didn't seem to be paying much attention to her visibly, until he turned and passed a worksheet to her.

"We're doing this physics worksheet in class, Aoyama-san." Jierumi calmly gave by way of explanation. "I have another copy for myself."

Sure, he seemed rather polite and calm but Kaori knew he was secretly salivating over her. The way his eyes lingered on her thumbnail for a split second longer than any eye should linger upon a thumbnail gave away his intentions clear as day. He more than likely kept extra copies of assignments so he could lure new female students into a sense of false security, then have his way with them later. He was just another lecherous pervert hoping she was willing to throw her life away for the opportunity from him to put his hands all over her...

...swine.

The rest of the class was now faced with a question that needed immediate answering, Kaori was obviously one of the nerdy girls... after all she wore glasses, and if Kari looked this fine as an American nerd... then what did the hot American popular chicks look like?

She accepted the worksheet, politely thanking her classmate, the lecherous pervert he was. "You are most kind, I thank you." Her voice was angelic. The sun light from the windows reflected perfectly off her lip-gloss with ever word she spoke. The world just seemed to languidly trudge on as she fell silent once more as if there were no reason for the Earth to move unless she bade it to do so.

"Jierumi?" Mr. Raito asked politely, although Kaori could see the glimmer, that passionate desire and lust in his eyes as he asked the student next to her. "Would you be so kind as to show Kaori around today? We don't want her getting lost, now do we?" He chuckled innocently. "How does that sound Kaori?"

So this was their plan. They were a team, they used extra copies of assignments and pairing one of with the other to attract unsuspecting young women into their web of lies and deceit. She was onto them. Kaori was far too smart to fall their tricks. "Thank you, Mr. Raito. A guide within these strange environs would be most welcome. I am grateful."

"Sure." Jierumi responded politely, fortunately unaware of the excruciatingly paranoid state that Kaori inhabited day to day when it came to men. The rest of the class passed in academic fashion, without immediate signs of lechery from her guide to place Kaori on high alert, though she wasn't so sure about the rest of the male students. Jierumi remained kindly and polite for the rest of the morning, though he cringed inside at the stress on his hormones, which normally he could negate by solitude at lunch.

At least, the lunch bell rang at last, and Jierumi led his courteous but secretly unwilling newcomer towards the cafeteria, explaining that it worked just like the American ones to his knowledge, "...so you can buy whatever they've got out in there, plenty of variety-- the hell?" Jierumi stopped short, surprising Kaori, until he noticed what he was staring at, with a shocked look on his face.

The young girl, a freshman about 14, and rather cute, was holding one of her textbooks and being accosted by a few older and rougher looking male students, whom Jierumi recognized as some of the bosu-types. It was highly clear what their purpose was, and the girl was looking for an escape route. Kaori was infuriated on principle, but then she noticed the sudden boiling rage on Jierumi's features.

I didn't think Hana would get into trouble with these guys so soon... "Excuse me," Jierumi positively growled to Kaori, and moved to rescue his sister from these bastards. One of them recognized his fellow senior and grinned. "Anya, why so angry? We got to this chick first-" Jierumi's right hand punched out as if he was releasing Kuroi Te, and drilled the other teen under the chin with a snap, much to his shock.

"Leave my sister alone!" The irate loner snarled, and as the other two delinquents reacted, Jierumi kicked one in the stomach and the other in the privates in quick motions. The fight was on now.

The reaction from Jierumi was precisely what she expected from him. Senseless rage and blind violence over nothing more than a simple phrase designed to set him off, and it did. HEven if he won against these men, he'd already lost the battle with himself. While she was grateful that he did the right thing and sought to rescue the young woman from the boys, diplomacy should have come before violence. It wasn't even honorable violence, he simply slugged the young man without warning or declaring his intentions, most dishonorable indeed.

"This is a realm of barbarism and savagery." Kaori spoke softly as she witnessed Jierumi pummel the unsuspecting men. He obviously out classed them, she knew, so why would he simply default to violence instead of diplomacy? It was was obvious that discipline was not very common in this realm. Surely he would be suspended for his actions and it boggled her mind why he was so swift to throw his education away like this.

By now the whole cafeteria was cheering and faculty were trying to get through to break it up. She sat quietly at a table and ate her fried chicken (why the school had fried chicken she didn't know nor care.)

"There are simpler ways to impress me, Jierumi." She whispered softly as she enjoyed her lunch amidst all the chaos.

"Iyada yada," murmured a wry voice from Kaori's side, and slightly behind her. "Such high spirited youths make it very hard to concentrate on one's work."

Standing there, having made no noise to announce his coming, in a navy blue jumpsuit and wearing a wide brimmed straw hat that looked silly with his modern attire, was one of the shinigami Kaori had been sent to the World of the Living with. He went by Jiro, omitting family name entirely. He was exactly the kind of man Kaori hated most...smooth enough to seem slimy at times, with self-confidence that danced on the border of arrogance, overly familiar, overly friendly, overly laid-back...and rakishly good looking even with the haze of stubble that never seemed to leave his chin and jaw. He was leaning on the handle of his pushbroom, as his assigned cover was the school's janitor.

It was already agreed on by the students that he was a 'creepy' janitor.

He cut his eyes sideways to give Kaori a sidelong glance. "Don't you think, Kaori-chan?"

True enough Jiro was precisely the sort of man that wore on Kaori's nerves very quickly. He was attractive enough to make parts of her ache that should never ache, confident enough because was as good as he boasted, and at the moment he wasn't giving her reason to throttle him into next week. Which was a shame, because she possessed a strong dislike for this man, mostly because he was a man.

"I am inclined to agree." Kaori said without turning her head to acknowledge him. Providing he behaved himself, she was bound by her code to grant him the same respect he showed to her. She picked at her fried chicken with petite, polished finger nails. "This is a world of barbarism. It is no wonder our work is never done in this place. The violence and pain seem endless, and they never seem to tire in bringing that pain and misery to the doorstep of their fellow man."

She nibbled on a piece of white meat, savoring the juicy fried fowl. "I pity them more than I could ever respect them."

"So gloomy!" Jiro chuckled, giving Kaori an affectionate pat on the back. "If you think this world is so much worse than ours, you haven't been to the outer districts of Rukongai! Wherever you go, life is a struggle. Still, we aren't here to ogle boys fighting, eh?"

He gives Kaori a knowing wink and heads towards where the brawl is taking place. He would intervene, he decided, if only to help young Kaori keep her head in the game.

Deftly Jiro poked the handle of his pushbroom into the melee, and with a series of three quick jabs, sent three boys stumbling and reeling away from the fight...leaving Jierumi and the boy he was focusing on the most...the one who had threatened his sister.

He then took off his enormously wide, flat straw hat and fanned himself with it.

"You boys are going to miss your classes."

  • 1 month later...

Jierumi let go of the other boy, hissing a warning. "If you dare come near my sister again..." He stopped, leaving the rest unspoken, then stumbled away in a heated path, everyone moving away from him. Nobody had seen the loner act like that, and that started whispers as he passed.

Right now the stress from combating Critters Man was not meant to know was taking its toll on him.

Kaori pushed the bridge of her glasses up with her the knuckle of her thumb since her fingers were soaked in fried chicken grease. When Jierumi the Warmonger stomped past her in his fit of angsty pique she let out a frustrated sigh, wiped her hands clean, and followed after him.

A perky bounce beneath slightly stressed shirt buttons dared someone to stare as she hastily caught up with the raging youth. Once she was in line with him, she matched his stride. She gave her head a slight shake to get her long blond pony tail to fall back down behind her from where it was resting on her shoulder. There were several steps of silence until finally, without ever turning her head to look at him, she simply asked: "This is customary, to brutally assault others over the simplest slights?"

"Jierumi!" Ms. Taki, the substitute art teacher moved right in to the path of the young man. She was barely his height and her usual friendly smile had been replaced by a glare as she crossed her arms. "I assume you have an explanation for that behavior back there? Honestly, I am not surprised by fighting from some of the young men around here but from you... Well, I am waiting!"

Jierumi turned his mouth to explain to Kaori that they had done worse than a 'simple slight,' but Ms. Taki made his eyes snap back to her. His gaze lowered. "They were harassing my sister severely... and I snapped." His tone was frank, not attempting any excuses, but simply saying what happened.

Although she did not like that there was not one hint of remorse in his voice her features softened and she took on a look of understanding.

"Well, severe harassment at school is something you let faculty deal with. It is not like they could have done any serious harm in the cafeteria. Don't worry, I wouldn't let anything happen to your sister."

She turned to face Kaori and almost immediately had a bright smile on her face. Akiko looked like one of those women who woke up and ran a brush a couple times through her hair and already looked perfect for the day. She never wore a faculty uniform or suit, instead she was in pants just barely on the tight side and a loose button up shirt. Her sleeves were rolled up and her arms and clothing had paint splotches of different colors over them. Somehow what looked dirty on others just seemed to make her more attractive.

"I hope you are adjusting well on your first day. If you need anything all you need to do is ask."

  • 4 weeks later...

Akiko nodded, suspicion flashed across her eyes as she looked at the "student". As quickly as it came it was gone.

"Well, hopefully the rest of your day remains uneventful. Now, off to class the both of you." With that Akiko made her way down the hallway.
