kestrel404
What is everyone doing for fun these days? I'm curious, because there are a lot of really unique individuals who hang out on this board.I'll start off with myself:This past weekend, I found an old fashioned car in a garbage dump, took it home, and rebuilt it from a book I got at the library. It was fun, interesting, and I learned a lot about cars.So what is everyone else doing for fun?

Gentle Giant
Usually, my brother and I do yard work together, or play checkers.Right now, we're hiking and camping out a lot.
Preston
I solve Cold Case files, mostly. I also homebrew some beer and honey-mead.When I need to think, I do some wood carvings. Everything from small figurines to lodge poles. I go were the grain of the wood takes me.
Wakinyan
I have been doing a lot of digging lately for some reason. I think it is another one of my little issues but I sure do enjoy it. So far I have a tunnel into a hillside about 200 yards deep. It's really very comfortable.
Juri 'Salamander' McClendon
Set things on fire! Burn baby burn!Just kidding. Right now it's trying to figure out what I can do with my node. Learning how to use my gifts. But when I'm not doing that, I enjoy listening to music. Usually because I'm so exhausted with both that and with all the legal stuff going on. My lawyer tells me it's going to be over soon, and I'll be happy when it is, whatever the outcome. I'm tired of waiting around.
Ian 'Very Bad' Blakely
Fun?I enjoy reading, surfing the OpNet a little and cooking. It's nice being able to eat as much as I do, gives me plenty of chances to try new cuisine.

Vincent Carver
I used to race cars. Very, very fast cars in very, very dangerous places. Now I do all sorts of things depending on my mood. I currently enjoy singing in public; At amateur nights in places where people don't know me.
Sakurako Hino
Well, my morning is spent split between tele-commuting with the Japanese R&D branch of TKI, and several private projects. The afternoon is strictly for myself only. Mainly either household chores, enjoying some quality OpNet feeds, or watching my cat play around. The evening is split between looking at code I have on my computers and debugging it, or taking care of short-term business deals. Late-night is for either rest, or pure recreation.I rarely sleep, since I've never really needed it in months, although I do still do it. I feel that getting into deep sleep is vital towards mental and spiritual well-being.All the while during the day, I pop in here and several other places on the OpNet for communication. I am more on computer enthusiast boards lately. I still try to get a Windows XP emulator for some of the old games I have. >.<
BlackStar
Well, when I had time I used to go to the space. It´s so beautiful that the stress of my work disappears. But right now I have so much work I can´t.
April Rice
I've still got some friends from high school I hang out with when I'm home, and I sometimes kill time keeping an eye on my kid sister. It's the same as before, really.I guess I have been spending more and more time in the air, though. It's just so great to be able to get free of gravity, y'know? H. 'Machine' Mann
Possibly a matter of perspective. For instance I watch XWF immediately after watching Zed and laugh just as much.In some ways it seems funnier though I'd not want to demean the comedic talent Zed.To answer the question; I spent the weekend restoring my new home and putting some quality training time in with in-house staff. There was a couple of hours spent dodging a hitman but that's not a normal part of my weekends.

kestrel404
Franklin, if you are looking for some friendly competition, I'm always up for a good game of Go. I have found that chess is boring once you surpass baseline intelligence. But Go seems to become More complex as you get better at it.If you are looking for more physical competition, I'm afraid I'm no match for you. Sakurako Hino
Ever tried Reversi(Othello) on a 3-Dimensional virtually rendered playfield? Sakurako Hino
One interesting thing, and this is sort of a guilty pleasure...Since I'm able to "dive in" to a computer, I've been developing a landscape and reality inside of an empty server I made from scratch.Currently I'm setting up the physiscs of that world. Soon I should start the rendering process of the different landscapes.Eventually, a whole world to explore may be available online, since I plan to open it up to the public.I consider it a work of art, and a gift to all. Unfortunately, those who don't have my gift will have to explore it the old-fashioned way through a screen or a pair of goggles. I'm programming the avatar interface for that part.It should be fun. Creating a world from the ground up. Even if it is only virtual. The whole problem I'm having, is trying to decide on a motif for the paradigm. Should it be around Fantasy, Modern, Sci-Fi, or what... I can't decide.Any suggestions?

ronin
She'd need an adequate reference point first, Bastian. As for myself, I have a lot of catching up to do. It isn't fun in the traditional sense, but lately I've spent a lot of time reading and going over newsfeeds, watching movies, playing video games, listening to music, sort of absorbing the culture of my boyhood. All the interesting and productive things that you people are learning are things that are depressingly second-nature to me. I spent a good portion of juice burning things like Viking longboat making, rainforest farming, aquatic spelunking, horseback archery, zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance and all the other "fun" things into my mind for good and for all.Funny how the memories are always the first to go. I know that I know how to make siege modifications to castles, but for the life of me I can't remember who taught me, when or why.

kestrel404
Bastian: And how would that make her subnet any different from the rest of the opnet? Sakurako: How about basing it on microcosms and macrocosms, or scientific principles and theories? Make it fun and educational, like a museum of science. And with your intellect, you needn't make it a childrens museum (at least not entirely) either. This is all quite interesting. To add to the list, my children are visiting me this weekend. We drove to six flags and spent the day there. I especially enjoyed the new "Pax Adventure" ride. My kids loved the T2M characters in costume that roam the park. Sakurako Hino
Actualy, the model I am basing the simulation on is going to be used as a base for conversation. No RPG style fighting, no violence. Purely for the use of conversation in a rendered reality. This is sort of an experiment, since the avatars of those that come to the system are capable of altering the landscape and creating objects. Each person adding, what I hope will be, another layer of chaos.I purely expect as cliques form, the landscape will look like what the group wanted it to be. Yes, it'd be an over-inflated chat system, but then again, it'd add a bit of escapism.

April Rice
If you want it to work for chat, you could use real world cities for the theme. Then, if you're in real world Tokyo and I'm in real Chicago, I could invite you to come and meet me at, like, Buckingham Fountain or something. It would be a way to experience far off places, y'know?I guess it wouldn't be as customizable, but you could make a simple version out of road maps and satellite photos, then let people fill in the details at their favorite places by uploading photographs. kestrel404
Sakuroko, if you intend to give other people creation abilities within your simulation, then I assure you, combat will arise. You needn't program it in explicitly, unless you want it as a major theme.Mr. Meehan, I meant interests outside of work. From what I've heard, that's what you do for a 'living'. I also enjoy my work a great deal, but what do you do for fun?
Sakurako Hino
Hm.I guess if it's going to happen, it will in some form or other. I guess I'll just have to make sure if the fighting happens, it's properly balanced. And as for the idea of using real world cities... People hop online to escape. I'll give the people who join into this world to team up with others to make their own cities.
