NASA Announces Call for Novas

NASA has announced plans to incorporate as many novas as is financially viable into their future plans.

Dr. Basil Tolquist, Chief Engineer in Development, stated "With the success of the Daedelus League it would be foolish for us to pass up the resources novas can provide. By bringing them in to NASA as opposed to working with the League we can better manage those resources."

Unamed sources state that one of the major concerns is the desire to control nova space jaunts that might bring dangerous microbes or bacteria into the Earth's atmosphere.

Michaelites ... makes me happy that I don't unleash quantum death at a glance. Sometimes, my temper worries me.

They're a hate group, a pack of murdering cowards out to kill me for something I had no control over, and they attacked my family. Three good reasons to kick them into the dustbin of history, IMHO.

Unlike Dad, I'm not picky about the civilized nicities they have so readily abandoned.

On the positive side, I wouldn't mind working with NASA, helping out people dealing in near Zero-G environments and the like. The ideas of Generation ships and planetary colonization have always facinated me. I can't wait to get back up into space. It was FUN!

Neil. Why deal with Generation ships? In 10 years, I could develop a ship capable of FTL flight. Or at least an engine I can upgrade the HMII with. Of course, the slight difficulties lie with S&T. I might just have to build the HMIII at a Lagrange Point.

But, untill then, I'm happy with chemical rockets and ZG weightlessness. Sort of... Romantic.

Interesting...

So baselines are killing baselines for desiring to be Novas.

When the blood between the species begins to spill in earnest, I wonder if all the "Aberrant Sympathizers" will be round up and either put into camps or executed by their own people.

I wouldn't put it past baseline humanity to do that.

I do assume people, but that is another story.
If you can pinpoint the exact time of death down to a minute of over one million people right now, why can't you see yourself making these little moronic errors you consistently make?

Certainly, however, as you have admitted that it was a mistake, and not an intentional word choice, you forfeited your claim of higher purpose already.

No, but by that rationale, I can assume it will one day be hot again. Knowing that it will be hot again, perhaps not on the following day, but assuredly on another day, would of course lead me to believe that it was not an isolated occurrence.

Same with you, and your so called infallibility.

But if I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to spar with someone you've willingly given power to.

Them Michaelites aren't as much of a threat as the Baraka cults are. You run into those tossers? They don't just kill you, they hack you up and eat you! Pity any Novas with healing abilities that get caught by them.

Had a bit of a scuffle with some Michaelites in NYC a few weeks back. Two of them must have clocked I was a Nova and were giving it all verbals until I offered to take them both on without using my powers. One of them got into a bit of a panic and pulled a gun. Me being the stroppy bugger I am these days, I retaliated by applying some low-power spheres to their knee caps.

Ahh, those screams. Reminded me when I used to work as a legbreaker for Hatchet Harry. Good days.

Unfortunately means I can't go back to New York for fear of the sodding Gothic Knight showing up.

I've heard rumors of the Baraka, but honestly my sources in that part of the world are sketchy at best. If even half is true they would be truly disturbing, and in dire need of Charr's gentle presence.

Michealites Attack Club-goers

Wow! Baselines acting like Charr. Who would have thunk it?

Hat's off to NASA and the ESA. Both are doing yeoman's work in integrating baseline humans and novas in a common work environment. While Project Utopia competes with them, its a friendly competition and alot of cooperation goes on, as well.

Sphere, not that you and I normally get along, but I hope you see the danger of passing on any information to a butcher like Charr. He is as likely to get every man, woman, and child around those bastards as he is to get the cultists themselves. After all, it isn't like he gives a damn.

You should have forwarded this one to the PR zips for review. They'd at least have made the attempt to draw a facile similarity to my methods instead of hoping novas were stupid enough to overlook the disparity.

Sphere; do what you need to do.

Michaelite: I think novas are out to hurt/enslave/kill us.

Charr: think baselines are out to hurt/enslave/kill us.

Michaelites: I find a place were I can punish those who offend me, while not risking myself. The Michaelite gets some buddies and attacks a nightclub of party-goers.

Charr: I find a place were I can punish those who offend me, while not risking myself. Charr gets some buddies and beats up, and/or murders some hapless baselines in a barn.

Michaelites:I am certain that my actions will bring terror to my enemies, while causing others to see the justice of my cause.

Charr: I am certain that my actions will bring terror to my enemies, while causing others to see the justice of my cause.

Michaelites: I'm doing what's best for mankind.

Charr: I'm doing what's best for novakind.

There, a little connect-the-dots for you.

Aberrants encountered a Baraka cult operating in and around Marakesh waaay back in 2008. They were operating out of a warehouse and were armed to the teeth. They'd managed to take a ton of Elites down using a combination of surprise, mite, and overwhelming firepower. The Aberrants involved were some of our more pro-active members and went in blazing. In a straight fight, the baselines weren't much good against two Utopia-trained Novas.

Problem was their priority was to rescue the Nova inside who was being harvested. So a lot of the goons got away.

Recently there were rumours that a larger cult had resurfaced. I was scouting around a middle eastern city and got ambushed by a load of nonces with shock-nets, and rpg's. Didn't wait to get their star signs and fried them on the spot. But if they were any indication of strength, then these guys now have the kind of gear you'd need for a bad day in Kashmir.

I snagged a few of the weapons and left them with the Aberrant's resident tech-head. He's trying to backtrack their origin. Got my own suspicions about whose been arming them, and don't really want to say on here. Trust no one, stay alert and keep yer quantum bolts handy kind of deal.

If a Utopian can't make his mind up whether he'd rather back a group of armed bigots (representing a group who have claimed 'credit' for killing Novas in the past) intent on assault or murder of their own species, or a group of baselines in fancy dress - then the human race is more screwed than they'd thought.

Ah, then my sincere apologies.

As for baselines dressing up as Novas - they've always wanted to be something more than they can. Novas have been paraded as the new superstars of the entertainment world rather than treated seriously as a seperate species, race or creed - and this is just another symptom of it.

Poor bastards.

Still, I have to wonder why someone would want to dress up like Apep of all Novas. I don't have anything against her personally, but you know, dressing up like someone that doesn't like your own species and has cut many of them into pieces...just seems odd to glorify someone who obviously doesn't like you very much.

Actually, dressing up just plain period is an ancient tradition of the human race. It probably stems from that overactive imagination we've got cooking upstairs, projecting ourselves into anything and everything around us, including each other.

And dressing up as something that hates you is also a common element in many societies, probably stemming from an unconscious urge to understand the darkness and in understanding, to triumph over it. Not a state of worship or fear but out of a need to create a spiritual symbiosis.

(I've done a little studying on the notion of myth. Fascinating stuff. I can't figure out why I wasn't into mythology before, beyond about ten million comic books. Probably thought that a biologist had no reason to look into such a thing.)

I think I am going to side with Vixen on this one, V. Religious ceremony goes way beyond spirituality. The social dynamics of group ceremony is just that ... social.

Now, the context of these gatherings are to act out their perceptions of their favorite novas and to bask in the understanding and community of like-minded novaphiles. Big whoop. Did a bit of that not too long ago. I didn't worship any of the novas I portrayed, and I didn't know any who did. Now, a few of the hardcore members were, well, hardcore in their devotion, but I knew some hardcore medical students too.

People live lives. Occassionally, they interact with novas and nova lives. The sane mind deals with it, like it deals with sun days and rain.

As for Apep, I have seen a few unofficial Opsites devoted to her (I know of no official sites). Alot of guys and dolls find her hot. It happens. Something about a lethal woman, kicking ass, and living a life of danger appeals to post-pubescent males.

Can't say I'm one of them. Something about all that killing I find to be a turn-off.

By the way, Violette, you realize how sexy you look in your T2M uniform, right? wink

Tell me it isn't designed that way.
