Hmmmm ....

Good for you?

I am curious why you make such an open challenge to the rest of us, though?

As for working for Anna, we shall see.

If what you do is what I do best.Making boys die for their country., then you weren't doing your job very well.

Funny, but I thought soldiers were more mission specific.

Oh, so you are an assassin for hire. My bad. Thought for a second you were a soldier of some kind, being an ex-member of the armed forces of a major country, and all.

Target = Goal of Mission,

at least were I went to school.

If you are a nova who does nothing more than pile up the bodies .... oh, well. Have fun in your new chosen profession.

Jager, look at this way.I spent 6 years in the Army.I was trained by the best of the best in all manor of warfare.I wasn't sent out to baby sit,or teach farming.I was sent out to do things that reflected my skills and training.

If peaceful means would get said goal done, they wouldn't have sent someone like me.

Early in my days after eruption I was sitting in the Amp Room and downing 'wells. Talking shit with my new nova buddies and the subject of elites came up. Hey, I was a kid, full of myself and started saying how you had to be a trumped up chimp to want to live a life based on beating people to death and killing folks just for a fistful of money. I then started talking smack about Ms. Devries specifically, called her a 'war mongering monster' or soemthing like that. Dude taps on my shoulder and points me to the table behind me. Sitting there is Vile Bill, Ian 'Very Bad' Blakely and Serge 'Surge' Woolsey. They looked less than happy with me. Ian walks over and has a nice talk with me. Good guy. Former school teacher. Taught philosophy at Cambridge. He explains a few things about power, war, violence and all that stuff. Made a pretty big impression on me. I don't talk shit about elites anymore. It ain't my life and I wouldn't want to do it, but they've made their choices and they have their reasons. Reasons a lot more fucking complicated than I would have given them credit for.

Turns out I got lucky. They had flipped to see who got to come over and set me straight. Vile Bill was just going to pound me to goo and accept getting thrown out for a couple months.

So, Cyclone, I know you're a badass and all. But I gotta say that talking smack about those guys isn't the best of ideas.

Well, how is this worse than what I used to do?How is killing for your own money worse than killing for someone else's?

It not a question of 'talking smack' or believing myself nigh invulnerable.

I pity them. I simply pity more the innocents whose lives end abruptly and are summarized as 'acceptable collateral damage'.

Yeah, but that's war, that ain't the elites. I know I talk low and shit but I ain't stupid. I do read a little here and there. I checked up on some of the stuff Blakely told me. If it wasn't elites it would be militia, army, or terrorist groups. Conflicts would take just as long, if not longer in a lot of cases, the fighting would cover more square footage and just as many, if not more innocents would lose their lives.

I'd love a peaceful world. Less depressing place all around I'd bet. But till then I think you're complaining about a symptom, not the problem.

No, Lemmie, not war. It is, among other things, it is a behemoth paying off his student loans and some civil damage assessments by throwing an engine block through five buildings.

Certainly there are some that need such a life while other are suited for little else. It is the remainder falling into neither group that amazes me. Death and violence is nothing new to this world but I abhor the sheer extravangance of waste counted in lives and lost potential.

Mr Blakely's sincerity and conviction is not being questioned. His objectivity is another matter.

Cyclone, look at wars pre-novas.Armed conflicts were on the scale of tens of thousands, now they are in the hundreds.

I do what I do,for three reasons.Money,is one of them. But I fight,so others do not have to,I kill because even when I do not trust the methods of others. Some people are slopy.I am not.

Think about this,in times of peace,I had 28 confirmed kills.Think of what number that would be if I was in war?

28 what? Don't tell me its novas, please.

Pre-nova conflict? What kind of conflicts?

Mercs have been engaging in small unit actions around the globe since the end of WWII.

What changed was that novas have power upping the scale to near tac-nuclear missles. You allow hundreds of uncontrolled warheads to run around, and you get alot of people getting grand ideas.

Elites wouldn't exist without a marketplace for their services.

YT, show me a DVNTS Elite who is sloopy and not on suspension, and I will show you one who is about to be.

Endeavor, just because we are talking, doesn't mean we're friends. So, here is the skinny, learn to shut your mouth,as some people want you dead. I was offered a rather nice check for your head.

So,stop rocking the boat,at least long enough to get enough friends to protect you, rather than just revenge you.

Child, if I wanted you dead, you would be dead.

Three weeks ago,you were standing in the open, with in range and line of sight of no less, than 20 points where a sniper could have killed you,and walked away with no chance of being caught.

Besides, I don't know if Jager would kill you,for what you know. What I have for him,is about one his old friends.

For all the new and prospective elites out there. Before you take on any easy jobs from unknown employers, do your best to check them out before you make yourself some enemies. If you can't find anything, walk away from it.

And, if you're under contract with De Vries, make sure any 'freelance work' doesn't conflict with the contract.

Y.T.: If you really have heard about a contract on Endeavour, the smart thing to do would be to spill the beans about it here. If it's a joke, then you should really work on future attempts at humour.

Keep believing that, Signy.

Actually, they would have looked awful funny with my pen coming out the front of their forehead, but that's a story of "might of been's".

Besides, I don't know if Jager would kill you, for what you know.

You claim to not know something? Wow.

Endeavor is under no threat from me. Something about strength of spirit, Signy.

What I have for him, is about one of his old friends.

Now, that is curious.

I ain't doing the stupid things,in breaking a contract I signed. You may not like that, but my ethics take precedence over her life.
Am I to understand that you would have gone after Endeavour if your current contract hadn't stopped you? You are right I don't like that, but not for the reasons you seem to think.

In fact, this has moved from me being slightly nervous about E's well-being to me being concerned about your well-being, Y.T.

But, I do know of who I keep company with. You don't trust anyone, do not spread your paranoia with me.
