Agnelli Celeste
I offtent think, and dream of what it would be like to fly.I can't fly,at least my body can't.but still it got me to think. we as hnovas, can do anything we dream of?But baselines can't? In away I think that what we can do limits us.We or at least some of us stop dreaming. We stop seeing the things we do as marvels, and take for granded the small things to us. I had to stop myself when I saw a friend of mine strain to lift her body wieght in a bench press. It took me a half of a breath to remeber that too her that is a big deal. but now I see novas who can do things that make me seem small...So I guess what I am saying is that should the messure of the tasks you do be based on some abrast set of numbers..Or the limits of the preson?See, wile i do not think i will ever fly in means of a bird, I do think I can just let me be myself, and be free with what I am.I do not need to worry what anyone else can do,just what I can do. Jager
That's an interesting, though torturous, way of looking at it AC.While everyone should be happy with what they can accomplish, in your line of work, you SHOULD be concerned with what the other guy or gal can do. From time to time, you are part of a team, right?

Sakurako Hino
Destiny, there are many novas who can. Some theorize that our "suite" of powers stem from wish fulfillment.I have the ability to fly as well, quite frankly, although it is rather novel to see with Human eyes, as a Nova I don't really see what all the fuss is. I prefer to stay on the ground frankly. Flying can be dangerous. All I have to say to the flyers here on the boards: Keep safe.
Wakinyan
Flying is one of the things I enjoy most about my new life. Although I tend to kick up more dust than a chopper when I come in for a landing.
Ghostwriter
I couldn't fly to save my life, but something that was almost as fun was going 'jumping' with my friend Julie, who can leap several kilometres at a time.If anyone makes jokes about lesbians with two-metre tongues and the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound, I will be sooooo pissed off.Codex
Sakurako Hino
You know, I just remembered something. I saw a funny little pic that poked fun at me and my little problem of being overprepared. This person drew me up, wearing a parachute, an oxygen mask with pressure suit, an inflatable life vest, and a portable radio. The text read: "Now I'm ready for a flight to the supermarket!"I don't kid. Just sucks that he programmed his OpNet page to dissalow external linkage except by OpIP permissions. But still, I think it was funny.Yeah, I take some precautions when I take long solo flights, but for the supermarket... The clothes on my back are plenty.
Vixen
I have a little earpiece and a belt-clip that incorporates a GPS and altimeter. It taps into flight control databases that use OpNet protocols and tells me when I'm getting too close to a flight path. It also warns me when I'm entering a zone that's not covered by open OpNet protocols. It taps into my main OpNet account for data transmission and costs less than a dollar a month for line time.Mitch built it for me 'cause fixing electronics is not my strong suit. I'm curious - would there be a market for these?
Sakurako Hino
Market?Well, since Nova fliers are a niche market, I'd have to say no.But, put one of those in lets say, a plane, you'd have a next-generation navigation/blackbox rolled into one.Although, I do like the idea. Too bad the thing I came up with that does the same thing needs something the size of a CD Walkman. Oh, I forgot, it was the triple redundancies and the shock-absorbing gels I used to make the thing practically indestructible...Of course, something that small, as to what you made, would be just as good, if not better.I'd buy that for a dolla'. Wakinyan
You guys are a lot more elaborate about your flying than I am. I just sniff out a direction and take off. I guess I am pretty durable to falling doesn't bother me. The flight path warning system is a good idea but to be honest I rarely fly higher than I'd say twenty thousand feet mainly cuz I am lazy. The higher I go the more effort I need to put into flapping.

Longboard
Flyng rules dudes, and dudettes. Defintiley cooler than walking, driving, running whatever. Thers no other way. The only precaustions I take: the leash tethered to my ankle, tied to my surfboard, because flying on a 9'0 gun is sooooo much cooler than pulling a Superman, fist first. Silver Surfer of you. I go the Wile E. Coyote route and strap a giant rocket to my back when I want to fly. Unfortunately it always seems to blow up in midair. I'm having the Acme techs look into it. Lucky for me I land right where I wanted to, usually in a flaming, charred heap.
Sakurako Hino
Totem, I don't think I'd make anything close to an artistic impression on the side of a passenger jet.You might have some sixth sense that allows you to detect such fast moving objects, but I don't.So, I use the next best thing. Tech. Another thing, what would you do if your node ran out of juice while you're oh... 30,000 feet up?
Wakinyan
You know to be honest I have never related my node to my wings. I just flap and off I go. On another side even when I am tired I just glide for awhile. I never have actually felt my node like others seem to do. Even when I erupted I didn't feel the pain most associate with the event. I mean I know I have one of course but I just never associate what I do with it all that much I guess. Maybe I should.

DigiGeist
Back to flying, ladies and germs...Is there anyone out there that could... oh... hook me up with some sort of jet-pack? I'm fiending for some air time. Serious. All this talk about pulling a superman sounds freaking awesome.Hmmm.. actually, now that I think about it, how legal is a personal flight pack anyways? Dealing with S&T and all that black tech stuff?Forgive my ignorance, I'm not a mechanic type of Nova by any stretch.

Williams
I can't fly. You'd think that someone capable of levitating an 18-wheeler would be able to lift himself, wouldn't you. But no, I can't. When I've tried in the past, it felt like I was trying to lift myself up by my shoelaces. Lots and lots of effort, but not one inch off the ground. But anyway, I'm me, and as such cannot fly. Singularity
Williams: using your mind to fly is just another bridge to cross. It seems you are still limited by your baseline understanding of the universe. Your mind believes your body must be on the ground to give you leverage to lift objects. You need to realize your body is no different than the objects around you, that your material self is separate from your mental self. Then you will fly. Sakurako Hino
If it is to be, it will.I just reccomend you don't get desprate, and jump off of a scyscraper or something trying. All I reccomend, is if you discover you have this ability, take precautions. When I first started practicing flying, I always made sure I never went too far, never flew higher than I felt comfortable, and always made sure I had the proper safety equipment when I experimented (A parachute, naturally, and a Life Vest when flying over water.)I still take some precautions like that when flying long distances.Hence the picture floating around the opnet of me being completely equipped. Someone thought I was being too careful, so whoever it was snapped the shot and circulated it.I'm not embarassed, but peole do expect Novas to fly around in tights and capes, not wearing parachutes and 20 to 30 pounds of emergency gear.Flying isn't a safe passtime. Williams
Quote:Originally posted by Franklin 'Singularity' Alden: Your mind believes your body must be on the ground to give you leverage to lift objects. No, it doesn't feel like that. My body is the centre, the eye of the storm if you will. I move things around myself, while staying constant. To fly, I would have to move the entire planet. I don't forsee that happening. If I gave the impression I'm bitter about not being able to fly, then I apologise. It is like whistling. Some people cannoit whistle, and some cannot fly. Me, I personally enjoy whistling.

Neil Preston
What's the big deal with flying, anyway? My mind gets blown by the novas that punch holes in reality and can step through to Io, or the Moon, or some place like that. After running with some people that walk the world, flying seems a bit tame.Could just be me.
Sakurako Hino
It's wish fulfillment. Being able to slip the bonds of gravity and the earth to soar with the birds.Of course, I'm able to fly no matter where I am. I've zipped through ice-canyons on Europa. It's like being some sort of starfighter, zipping through a canyon on the death-star.

Sakurako Hino
-.-Very funny. But you know, flying really isn't a pretty thing. You see, I can fly up to roughly the same speed as a Cessna plane. So imagine, if you will, the cleaning I have to do to my clothing from bug strikes. That's why I wear things like bodysuits. It's to protect any clothing underneath that I wear. You know, this could spread into another thread. The Joys (and troubles) of Flying...
