Yeah it is a sausagefest isn't it? I've got some estrogen in the NPCs don't worry.

Sky's background looks good.

I'll need to add Lore to the Ability list. It's basically Academics but specialized on novas, relics, the realms, magic, etc.

Alex if you need some relatives there are two water-based novas in the Pantheon I was going to introduce. Tethypsu is a fresh water god, and Tiadros is a salt water god. I don't have anything for them aside from their names, so...

So Cottus, BN and I are approved and Shade is close behind. How is it coming for you, Alex and Meta? Sable pmed me that RL got slammed so hopefully he can still play. Blade might be a late joiner...is there anything else we are waiting on, aside from more setting, location, politics, neiboring domains, and NPCs from BT?

And while I am asking, BT, do you have a start date in mind for the first prologues?

I will be MIA for the first two weeks of Jan, as that's my last gasp in the Navy, but then I should be good.

Wait...wait...I...I'm getting a vision...the Norns are speaking to me...I see....I see...your character will be very very busy in her workshop around the new year... ::tongue ::laugh

BT, I'd like to add a bit to Phlegra, the Southern Wastes, specifically Worster, the small village where Coraline's father was from.

Worster is possibly the furthest village that is occupied year-round. To the surprise of many people from more 'civilized' climes, much of the city is virtually buried, to better insulate the homes when the cruel winds blow and the sun dips below the horizon. Only a scant two hundred people call Worster home through the cold winter, though this can almost double during the summer as trade caravans come to visit.

During the summer, traders flock to the village, eager to trade manufactured goods, clothing, and other supplies for mushrooms and the furs the region is famous for. Some little farming can be done during the five months the sun is up, and this is the time most of the inhabitants use to fish both fresh and salt water fish, and smoke them for the long winter ahead. As the Autumn Equinox passes by, the bitter winter winds pick up, and other than the hardiest of hunters, the villagers retreat into their underground homes. Tunnels connect them, to allow for conversation, trade, and courting, and the growing of edible mushrooms to supplement the dried meat and hard bread. By the Winter Solstice, the sun rises for a scant three hours a day.

Only 1 dot in WC? You must have spent a boatload on something else...
Well, he's definitely not a specialist.

I think the big powers that I haven't already mentioned one way or the other are

Bio-luminescence and Quantum Conversion 1 (Water)

RE: Aquatic Relatives

Hmm... if we assume that both of them are also descended from Oceana, then one could be a uncle/aunt and the other a cousin.

RE: Mom's name

Brittany Anderspear? Or even just "Anderspear"?

Groan! Brittany Spears? Really dude? Or Anderspear? Considering Ander means male and spear means...well it's a rather phallic name for a love-goddess don't you think?

Here let me help:

Brosia

Melasandra

Kalapea

Anuin

Demalyn

Noctura

Therafaiyin

Vendarra

Just random names and syllables off the top of my head...

Hmmm...nice! Perhaps I should add more detail to the Mega-Domain that is Kul-Argoth?

More stuff, subject to BT approval, but I'm bored and wanted to write it up.

During the war between Darmathia and Šile Amûne, the Gryphon Rider won most of his fame. Fighting on the flank against the ocean side, Benjamin brought down two enemy novas with his great bow, wielded with the great strength granted to him by his goddess. His greatest victory was when he staged a daring raid during a night time thunderstorm, flying over the enemy lines. Leaving his gryphon to circle above him with a rope ladder prepared, Benjamin snuck into the tent of General Nertartaral's most trusted assistant, Colonel Arrakesh. After binding and gagging the Colonel, Benjamin stole the Amunish battle plans, and the Colonel himself, flying them back to the Dalmathian war-camp. After Arrakesh was interrogated, he was ransomed back for one thousand pounds of gold - a fortune that (after the Pantheon taxes) purchased the Gryphon Rider one of the most elaborate suites in the Silgaean palace.

[edit] Capturing and ransoming back important enemies, such as nobles, military commanders, or (in this world) novas, was an accepted practice from pre-Roman up to the middle ages, and was one of the ways that commoners could bump their way up the feudal ladder. Capturing someone worth a large ransom meant they could buy titles and lands that would get them into the lower ranks of the nobility. [/edit]

I got a chat ping a couple hours ago from BT saying he couldn;t get EON to load but unfortunately I was away from my computer/phone at the time and when I got back he was logged out of chat...

Since he didn't post I am guessing he still couldn't get on or didn't try again since I know sometimes it won't load for me but then a minute or so later it does.

I've got an idea for a handmaiden of death, a team of grim reapers or shinigami, doing mostly low level stuff, collecting the souls of the dead as they work their way up to valkyrie, collecting the souls of fallen warriors. If it's not too late to join?

I think you sold me with "handmaiden of death" but the team of shinigami sounds cool too. So between Expendable and Blade (whenever he decides to say hello) I think we may have enough players now. Sable is free to come back if he finds time, if not, no harm done. But I'm thinking we can cap the players for now.

(Expendable: just so you know, we have decided to do away with Backgrounds for this game, despite there being a Backgrounds thread. You can use the Backgrounds I made for reference, but in the end what you make is up to you. Don't feel limited by what you see.)

I'm gonna do a score of new entries (mostly NPCs and lore stuffs) over the next 24 hours, but very sporadically so don't stay up waiting for them. I want to start a Prologue or two tomorrow night if I can (but no promises), just so we get the ball rolling. I want to start one player at a time instead of all at once. I might unintentionally kill myself if I do that.

Oh, and this is how the Prologue will operate:

Each character will start the game with a Prologue. The Prologue will only have 1 player -- you -- and serve as a starting off point for your story. The Prologue will let you establish your character in the setting and create any backstory that you want to add (but remember, you don't have to reveal much of anything about your character if you don't want to). If by the end of the Prologue you realize you don't want a certain Ability or that a certain power needs a few more dots to be where you want it power-wise, you can move some points around with Storyteller permission. Your character is not set in stone during the Prologue and is open for edit. The Storyteller has full use of his Handwavium powers, and the player can request a retcon.

After the Prologue:

This is where things get a bit complex. It will be the same as Prometheans Unbound, where we used a Chapter set-up where everyone would split up into teams for each Chapter, with each group going down a different branch of a shared plot "theme" or whathaveyou. The various Branches would be introduced before each Chapter and players would choose which ones their characters went to.

With Theomachy there will be no Branches offered to you. You will choose to do whatever you want. If you want to pick up where the previous Chapter left off and continue that plot, you can. If you want to do something else entirely, you can. I am a very plot-driven Storyteller so you won't be without direction and options that I present to you; I will wave various plot-threads and twists in front of you that you can choose to follow. I will also give updates to world events between Chapters, presenting you with even more options.

In between Chapters is Downtime. You get healed, a certain period of time passes, etc. This is where you are most likely to get improvements to your traits, though they can get upgraded in-game as well. This is also the time that we decide where to send you next in the story. The downside to the Chapter set-up is that it forces all currently running Chapters to stop at, or near, the same time.

Something important I want to say is this: if you want to go solo that is okay. You can be by yourself in every Chapter if you want. This might be a good option for you if you find that you aren't on-line as often as the other players, or if you just like to do your own thing.

And some other notes...

Character Sheets:

Your character sheet will need to be made public after your Prologue is finished, it won't be kept private. After you and I have finalized everything you can start a new thread specifically for this. Update your sheet as you go (by using the edit option) but make sure to keep a record of any changes that are made; reply to your own thread to make a note of what you are changing, that way we have a record in case we need it.

Mega-Willpower:

Cottus and I are talking over introducing the Mega-Willpower trait made by Sprocket, but with many changes and limitations to make it suit the campaign. Nothing for sure yet, but I want everyone to know I'm thinking it over and deciding which enhancements are applicable to the game. If I do decide to introduce it and you've already begun the prologue but want it, no biggie, we can edit your character to add it. I do want to say that Willpower is one of the few things that keeps novas close to baselines and limits them, and I kinda like it that way.

Sleep:

My sleep schedule is very strange right now. I'm waking up and sleeping at random hours. I really hope to get my sleeping situated so you guys can get predict when I'll update. I'm currently unemployed, so I do have lots of free time at the moment as a trade-off.

Linguistics:

The base language of the world will be called Basic just to keep things simple. But there can be numerous other languages out there.

Ornate Language and Dialogue:

I am not a writer. Many (most) of you have far better skills than I do when it comes to dialogue and descriptions. I'll do my best, but you won't catch me using sentences like "Hail, children of Zeus! Grant lovely song and celebrate the holy race of the deathless gods who are for ever, those that were born of Earth and starry Heaven and gloomy Night and them that briny Sea did rear." We can just assume that when our character speak they sound a little like that. Kind of like how everyone in Star Wars speaks English, but not really.

Can't think of anything else right now...anyways, those NPCs are long overdue, I need to get crackin' on those.

Re: Mega Willpower. Draygos is a prime candidate for this but it may well be something I develop with "xp" later in the game, should you choose to include it.

Whew, okay, sorry I've been out of pocket for so long. I'd really love to play. Working on a character sheet that I'll get to you soon BT, but here's what I've got for a background so far:

The beginnings of this story go far back, back before Silgaea was the town you know today and indeed even before even Darmathia was Darmathi. As Pontenki once lived in the clouds above Phlegra, her brother Rogondr was staking his claim to the frozen wastes below. Rogondr was a powerful diety, a god of combat but he was not without his wiles. His people were like him, hearty and strong to survive in the wastes but their hulking size and love of battle belied their cleverness as well. Under Rogondr's guidance their beginnings as primitive wanders tendeding to their herds gave way to experienced traveling merchants, feared as much for their prowess on the battlefield as their skill at the bartering tables.

Rogondr visited Silgaea on his eternal throne, knew him well and watched as Marmir grew from the great nova's remains. As the Absolute set about creating his empire, Rogondr was the first to present himself as an ally. When the Šile Amûne attacked, it was Rogondr and his men among the first to rally to his cry to battle. Rogondr personally led his armies in battle after battle, the spinning and shining blades of his warriors massive axes came to strike fear into the enemy's hearts. He too fell at Cibura, fighting alongside his close friend Darmath. While his passing left a rift in the hearts of every one of his people, to die on the field of battle held much honor. Rogondr's body was carried by his royal guard straight back to his kingdom without rest, as one man fell away with exhaustion another took his place. It was there his funeral pyre burned brightly for six weeks without the fuel ever needing to be replinished. For the whole six weeks, in the flickering light of the fire stood Holfn, wife of Rogondr, and his two young boys Rogordr and Vidarr.

Rogordr was older and truly his father's son, tall and strong; all who saw him recognized Rogondr in him. As similar as Rogordr was, Vidarr was just as different, the other side of the coin to his impressive brother. He was smaller and not as powerfully built as his father, but inherited all of his father's cleverness. After Rogondr's death Holfn never spoken again, so the mantle of leadership fell to the boys sooner than was fair for such young ones. Fortunately for the Rogondr's Domain, they performed admirably. Rogordr took center stage as the inspiring leader with Vidarr a step behind, supplying sage advice to his brother.

It continued this way until both boys became men, capable rulers and becoming legends in their own right. It did not take long however, before tensions strained. Rogordr's status as de facto ruler of the domain had only solidified over time and it was apparent to all that the equal partnership of the brothers was a thing of the past. Wiley Vidarr spent less and less time in Jofur, the main city, which only served to advance Rogordr's status as sole ruler. Finally, after one of the younger brother's trips stretched from months to years, a great celebration was planned simultaneously celebrating the beloved Rogordr's place as sole ruler and his betrothal to Fugga, his new and beautiful bride. The Rogondr (as they were now called) were never ones to pass up an opportunity for merry making and the party stretched for weeks. The wedding ceremony took place on the final night and just as it came to a close, a dark storm passed overhead. A flash of lightning crashed into the middle of the crowd and a dark and beautiful witch appeared, cursing all around her. She turned her eyes towards Rogordr and his new bride, summoning up her power to lay a powerful curse on them, dooming Fugga to death if she ever bore Rogordr a son. With a great roar Rogordr took up his ceremonial blade and struck the witch down with a mighty blow, killing her instantly. The celebration was over and all quickly left, lest their great rulers sorrow turn again to wrath. In time, it seemed as though many had forgotten the witch's curse though this can easily be explained away by Rogordr's violent rage at the topic's introduction.

Many years passed and Vidarr returned, angry to find that his brother had stripped him of his authority and half of his birthright to the domain. A great war of words echoed throughout their great castle, Rogordr's booming voice shaking the stones while Vidarr's nimble brain and tongue led him around in circles. Finally Vidarr left the castle in rage and frustration, for the older's steadfast stubbornness was the only thing in all the word that could resist the younger's cleverness. He constructed a great house outside of town, a place as convoluted and complicated as his mind and was rarely seen in the city again- although it was well known that Vidarr could go where he pleased without being recognized if he so wished.

Finally, it came to pass that Fugga became pregnant. There was much unspoken worry about what might happen if she was to give birth to a boy, no one felt any more comfortable discussing the witch's curse than they had the day it happened. Rogordr's rage at the mere mention of curse was terrible behold and dangerous indeed for the one who spoke the words. No one was more worried that Rogordr but he would not let on, even in a private audience with his wife. Finally the day of birth came and nearly all of the domain gathered outside the castle to hear the announcement, anticipation and dread running throughout the crowd. Finally, it came! It was a boy, the domain had an heir and just as happy, the Fugga was not dead! Indeed, curses are unspecific things and it was many weeks before her every move was not constantly monitored for signs of an impending magical death. Soon, they decided, the curse must have not worked, the witch was a faker and all worry was thrown out.

In the meantime, the child Sjundr grew quickly although there were many curiosities. As his hair grew, it was not the shining blond of his father and grandfather, but a dark brown. His eyes were not the blue that marked the first born men of his family, but a deep green and instead of a strong chin he developed a slightly pointy nose. It was not long before the gossip around town suggested that perhaps the curse was real and that Fugga was saved not by it's faulty power but because her child was not her husbands at all but instead belonged to his brother Vidarr. The first man to drunkenly suggest this near Rogordr quickly lost his head and with that the gossip stopped. The next day a proclamation was made that Sjundr was absolutely Rogordr's son and that there was no other option but that, any who suggested otherwise were invited to come meet with the King personally. As of today, no one has taken him up on his offer. Vidarr was never seen again, his house slowly sliding into ruin on the outside of town, abandoned.

And Sjundr? Well, as he grew it became apparent to anyone with half of an eye that he was Vidarr's. Except, of course, to Rogordr himself. If he ever admitted it to himself he never showed any sign, acting as though the poor boy was another in a great line of warrior kings despite all evidence to the contrary. Sjundr's martial training gave results, but never what was expected of the last in the line of Rogondr. His proficiency for tricks, manipulation and disappearing was obvious, despite his father's best efforts. So it was that after years of chafing under his father's forced rules and training did Sjundr, heir to one of the most powerful domains in the pantheon, disappear out of the castle and into the night. Rogordr's rage was great, but it was as though he could not build the fury that came so easily before. Many years have passed, yet Sjundr has never been seen in the domain since.

I am Sjundr the Wanderer, progeny of beautiful Fugga, goddess of Kindness and Warmth who married the great warrior god Rogordr, yet he is not my progenitor. My sire is his brother, Wiley Viddar the trickster, who disappeared the day I was born. Though my voice does not ring, hear me: I will not be found. I will not be held. I will not be impeded.

Well, the idea is that she's one out of a group of grims, collecting souls. I'm just a little stuck on how she does it. I could give her a mystical scythe that does the "separating".... Then it's just getting the souls to where they're going!

Could mean a few side trips!

Some thoughts:

First of all BT is down to create custom powers and abilities to fit the setting beyond what would normally be possible under the Abby rules and "physics."

Secondly, since you are both a unique goddess and also part of a group or "class", you may consider creating an organization or "type" of god/nova that you belong to.

To further clarifty, Centimane created a backstory for his character where he is part of a very old sub-type of Novas called Wardens, who were created and invested by the orginal God-gods to protect mankind from another sub-type of ancient fallen demonic novas called the Fallen. All of this was pretty much Cottus imagining and elaborating on the skeleton of BT's backstory and BT liked it so much it became canon, and our new universe is suddenly richer for it!

So perhaps you can work out with BT to have this whole sub-class of Novas charged with sheperding souls to the Underworld, like the Wardens and Fallen they would liely be rare even among the rarity of Novas, and making you that much more special.

I would be into helping you work on it if you want since my character is essentially a "Prince of the Underworld" though by relation and marriage rather than with any real power (at least yet).

Oh, and heres betting BT loves your idea for a Magick Death-Scythe...

Sablesma, that's a pretty sweet origin story. I like it. I look forward to a character sheet whenever you're ready.

=====

I'm going to go back on Silgaea being a coastal city. Now it will be located away from the shore, though not too far. It will be by a river though, which empties into the ocean.

Which reminds me I should make a map. It's near the bottom of my current to-do list but it shall be gotten around to eventually.

=====

Expendable, how about something like this for an idea:

One of the Keepers of the Underworld has a set of female novas that are bound to his service. He targets novas who are at emotionally weak points in their lives (or those that just like death) and then binds them into service with an agreement/pact that they cannot turn back on. The Handmaidens of Death are spread throughout the world to carry out basic services for the Pantheons: funerals, cremations, burial services, embalming, mummification, prayers, requiems, eulogies, etc. When novas die their souls go to the Underworld, but when a Handmaiden presides over the funeral service she directs the departed soul directly to the Keeper instead of a random location in the Underworld. The Keeper then gets first claim over that nova's soul, if he chooses to do anything with it. Because of this the Handmaidens' Keeper is one of the most powerful Keepers of the Underworld.

=====

Shade and meta have been approved. Alex, could you send your character sheet one more time? I may have deleted the old one.

Alrighty, let's get one of these beasts started. I fell asleep earlier because of housework (we have a party coming up, and the house is blah right now) so sorry about that. Sky seems the most eager to go and was one the first to have his characters turned in, so I'll get his prologue up soon. Talking to him on AIM atm. So it turns out "tomorrow" meant "the day after tomorrow, but mad early in the morning" but we're starting dammit!

Before I get the NPCs thread up (which would have more to it, and better power descriptions), here is a quick reference if you want ideas. Sorry I didn't have this up earlier, considering how important it is.

The Archon (ruler)

Marmir - The Archon of the Pantheon. Portfolio is rulership, authority, strength, mountains, retribution. Marmir has Q8 with the Climactic Supremacy power, but this power affects regions within Darmathia instead of the entire planet. He sits upon his throne and uses this power remotely to punish any uppity regions with droughts, floods, hailstorms, etc. He is also very capable in physical combat, though he doesn't leave his throne anymore. He has an extremely buff body with the head of a bull. He rarely discusses issues with his underlings once he has made up his mind and has been known to go into rages when things don't work out his way. He allows a great deal of in-fighting and bickering to happen within Darmathia as long as outside forces are stopped from invading. There are many novas who feel his hands-off approach and lack of mobility weakens the entire domain, a feeling that is slowly growing greater. He keeps his three wives against against one another so they don't turn on him, and it is rumored he is looking for a fourth wife.

The Imperatrices (singular: Imperatrix, the three wives who form the Triumvirate who are the power players of the Pantheon)

Samaethir - Wife of Marmir. A sun goddess who is also devoted to education, family bonds, truth, honesty, and loyalty. Samaethir leads what is often called the "Heavenly" branch of the Pantheon, which includes novas that share her philosophy. She has Q6 and very powerful light-based abilities. She is popular among the baseline population, who consider her the most beautiful and pure of heart out of all the wives. She has a welcoming personality and a warm smile to underlings, but also considers herself "at war" with the other two wives, who she feels are sinful savages that need to be smited and their novas converted.

Asona Mahea - Wife of Marmir. A nature goddess who is also devoted to health, fertility, judgment, fortune, revenge, and punishment. Asona Mahea leads what is often called the "Earthly" branch of the Pantheon, which includes novas that share her philosophy. She has Q6 and very powerful nature-based abilities. She is popular among the baseline population, who consider her the most honest and well-intentioned out of all the wives. She is ambivalent to the smaller-scale politics of the Pantheon and prefers to see the big picture but is not above crushing anyone that slights her, and she believes the other two wives need to be killed in order for the world to be a better place.

Viatami - Wife of Marmir. A death goddess who is also devoted to strength, manipulation, fear, the afterlife, necromancy, and war. Viatami leads what is often called the "Infernal" branch of the Pantheon, which includes novas that share her philosophy. She has Q6 and very powerful necromancy-based abilities. She is popular among the baseline population, who consider her the most feared and capable warrior out of all the wives. She is accepting of all novas as long as they show her respect, but makes sure everyone falls within her web somehow, and works day and night to undermine the power of the other wives who she considers weak and bound by morals.

The Duces (singular: Dux, the leading generals of the Pantheon)

Ojin - One of the eldest Pantheon novas, who wears a thick suit of armor and carries a massive cleaving blade capable of cutting down a dozen soldiers at once. He lives by a strict code of personal conduct. He is devoted entirely to Samaethir.

Eresin - A god of the night who tends to be more analytical than the other duces. He has a habit of considering others expendable in battle and will do anything to insure victory. He is devoted entirely to Asona Mahea.

Anashatala - The newest Dux whose bloodthirst on the battlefield is already the stuff of legend. She does not tolerate weakness or cowardice in combat. She is devoted entirely to Viatami.

Others

Phyremus - The guardian of Silgaea city. She carries out punishments on those that break the law.

Cirnace - A god of thieves and potions who is also the praetor of Lichiduum. Unpopular with the Pantheon.

Shoya - A fertility goddess and daughter of Samaethir and Marmir. She has numerous daughters, who she uses to marry off to baselines and novas in order spread the Heavenly branch's power.

Steume, Heryadu, and Nolesa - Three serpent brothers who serve under Anashatala.

Khaosammu - One nova that has two bodies. One body is a mother and the other a daughter, yet the daughter is also the mother of the mother in a strange paradox. She (they?) represent eternity and cycles. Time manipulator.

Ishteros - A god of love. He is extremely popular with baselines. He carries a bow whose arrows can cause targets to become lovestruck. Shuns clothing.

Foreign

Nabananke - The leader of Sile Amune's government. A seer and legendary inventor responsible for many advances in the crafts of war.

Nertartaral - The leader of Sile Amune's armies. A massive grotesquerie that is feared by his neighbors. Brother of Nabananke.

And many others too of course, but maybe this will help you guys with some ideas.

I'm still talking with Skylion and about to set up his prologue. Cottus would likely be next. Then we can figure out who starts next.

My apologies everyone. I found out about this game about a week or so ago, but before anything else I figured it was best to PM BT and see if there was still room. And when he said there was, I started focusing on the character I'd make so much I forgot to say hi and inform you all I would be joining you. So....hi! I'll be joining in two. ::happy

The character I'm working on is basically an 'air elemental', with the ability to bodymorph into air, and of course some elemental mastery in air, ect. Full details will likely be sent out when I get everything approved with BT. The name I'm presently considering is 'Shaok', taking BTs advice and taking the Greek goddess of airs name, Khaos, and switching a few letters around. But any suggestions would be welcome, Im horrible when it comes to thinking up names.

Something else I've considered, though wasn't sure about so I wanted to get everyones opinion on, is making the character female. I'm mostly unsure about it because I haven't really played a female character before and not sure how great I would do. But on the other hand, I think if anything, being female would better suit the characters general personality, much like the air itself, typically being rather quiet, gentle, and calm. Most of the time.

Anyway, looking forward to joining the game, as well as any opinions and suggestions you all might have.

Hey Cottus, would you mind making another one of your awesome powers?

Blade wants his character to have a general "sensory" power. This power would be defined as the ability to sense in a radius around him. ESP requires you to project your senses and move them around as if flying, but this power is more like radar, but it doesn't just 'ping' when something is around you, it lets you know exactly how far away and in what direction, and it would overlap normal senses like vision. If you close your eyes, you could maybe use the sensory power to get around. It would be defined as sensing something in particular: plantlife, electricity, heat, quantum disturbances, metal, or even stranger things like sensing hatred. This power would have a duration and be centered on the nova, and would be similar to the sensory Basic Techniques that psions get, like that one that lets electrokinetics sense electric currents around them.

There could be an extra called Broad Category for sensing things that are very common. In this case, Blade's character can sense "air" so if he closed his eyes he would be able to walk around without bumping into anything, but wouldn't be able to tell colors, details, or anything like that. He would also be able to sense rooms beyond walls.
