Hello, everyone! This is Dixie doing the Monday Meeting notes this week, so expect 89% fewer puns. We had a pretty short meeting this week, and focused mainly on what we and our freelancers are doing during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. As far as our day jobs go here at Onyx Path, it’s business as usual since we work from home, but we know that’s not the case for everyone. We have freelancers who work in healthcare, some who are immunocompromised or otherwise susceptible, and then others who have to take care of older family members or small children as cancellations continue.

In addition to anyone directly impacted by the outbreak, there’s also the spate of conventions being cancelled, and many people have had to postpone/cancel trips and events. this is very much still a developing situation, and we encourage our freelancers and fans to take measures to keep themselves safe and healthy. While some people may think, “Oh, this will mean everyone can get a lot of their freelance work done while they’re self-isolating!” that’s not always going to be the case (childcare, housemates all being home, etc.) but we’re working with our freelancers as best we can.

The Onyx Pathcast hosts in particular would like to apologize if anyone thought we were making light of the COVID-19 outbreak in last week’s episode. I assure you, everyone here is taking it seriously.

That said, self-isolation can be difficult if you’re used to being around people, including gathering for tabletop games, so our friends at Astral Virtual TableTop are giving everyone their paid features for free during this time! There’s a post about it here: https://astraltabletop.com/whats-new/2020-03-13, but your account should already have the features unlocked.

That’s all well and good, you might say, but I don’t have any new games to try out! Well, we’ve got you covered on that front, too. Today, you can pick up V20 Dark Ages for free at DriveThruRPG, and we’re putting up a new free corebook every day this week. They’re only up for one day each folks, so make sure you grab the ones you want!

    • You can get V20 Dark ages here today: https://www.storytellersvault.com/product/144495/Vampire-20th-Anniversary-Edition-The-Dark-Ages
    • Tuesday we’ll be offering the Werewolf 20 core here: https://www.storytellersvault.com/product/112871/Werewolf-The-Apocalypse-20th-Anniversary-Edition

In other news, the Legendlore Kickstarter is ongoing, and we’re close to halfway funded! I, personally, am a big fan of the setting. As Ian A. A. Watson put it on Twitter:

Do you like El-Hazard, Alice in Wonderland, Labyrinth, Wizard of Oz, Chronicles of Narnia, Neverending Story, Magic Kingdom of Landover, Apprentice Adept, Castle Perilous, or the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon?

    @VonAether

If so, this book is for you. Check it out and read manuscript updates here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/legendlore-rpg-setting-for-5th-edition-fantasy-roleplaying/

Another cool thing you can do while you’re home is to attend Gehenna Gaming‘s VirtualHorror Con April 4-6. From the website:

VirtualHorror Con is a two-day virtual horror tabletop RPG convention that can be experienced on any screen no matter where you are. Many of your favorite events and conventions have been canceled, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the convention experience. This event will give fans and players the opportunity to connect with the game developers, artists, and publishers they love. No lines. Safe social distancing. Horror-themed actual play streams, live panels, and digital tabletop RPG one-shot sessions running the whole time!

All ticket and raffle sales will go to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization to support the development of vaccines, tests, and treatments for the coronavirus pandemic.”

There isn’t much else that came out of our meeting, as people are just buckling down to get some work done and continue monitoring the situation. We’re still working on the Dragon-Blooded surprise and will have that out to backers as soon as we can!

So stay safe, wash your hands, and as always…

As we find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is awesome! (Seriously, you need to roll 100 dice for Exalted? This app has you covered.)

Update: the devs are working on the updates for the roller in both Android and iOS; here is the rundown from them:

    1) Redo the UI for system for Android. It will look the same as the current design. My goal is to have something ready by Saturday to send out to the Facebook users, asking them if this fixes the issues. This will be a beta type thing. This will break several of the fancy dice.

    2) If the above worked out and the android users give all the clear, we’ll redo the graphics system to fix the fancy dice that got broken. We’ll do another Android beta through Facebook. This might take up to two weeks, as my schedule allows.

    3) If everything worked well, we’ll release to Android for real at that point.

    4) Port all of the existing stuff to iOS and release on that.

Also, today is my stepmom’s birthday! I don’t usually get to do shout-outs on the blog, but since I’ve taken over today I’m indulging myself. Happy Birthday, Laura! Hope you and dad are having a blast (still while practicing safe social distancing).

    Welcome!

Travis Legge here, bringing you round eight of playtesting for our forthcoming Scarred Lands RPG supplements. Before we get to this week’s playtest, I want to take a moment to thank you for your incredible feedback up to this point. Your input has helped us shape the Scarred Lands and you can see the impact of your feedback already in Yugman’s Guide to Ghelspad Part One, available at DriveThruRPG! I’d also like to remind you to keep an eye out for Vigil Watch Chapter One: The Toe Islands, coming THIS WEEK! Please check out the latest playtest, be sure to fill out the surveys, and let us know what you think!

As our team prepares for the release of further installments of Yugman’s Guide to Ghelspad and Vigil Watch, we’ll be introducing several rules to playtest through Open Development. Check them out, use them at your tables, and let us know what you think. Here’s the details!

    • Thirteen playtest packages in total
    • Each playtest is open for three weeks
    • Each playtest includes a survey for you to enter your feedback and rate your satisfaction with the content

Each playtest document will contain a link to a brief survey for feedback. I will post a new playtest each week, with each survey open for three weeks, on the Onyx Path blog. The final Open Development playtest in this schedule will be posted on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020.

Our Hunter: The Vigil 2nd Edition Kickstarter is a few days before we hit the final week, and we just passed 300% funding and over 1500 backers! Thanks for all the support out there, and be sure and talk this up if you get a chance.

Every time you can send somebody over to the KS, that’s another person who can connect to more folks who haven’t heard about it yet. And so on, and so on, and so on.

Another place where we could use our community doing a bit of outreach is letting game stores know that they can get V5 Chicago By Night into their stores. If you have a local game store, please tell your stores Chicago is available via distribution. Even if you personally already have it or aren’t interested, if you can ask them to request V5 Chicago By Night from their distributors, then that also raises awareness of all of the Onyx Path books currently available from distribution for stores.

The reason I’m pushing this is that now, right as the book is just becoming available in stores, is when we want to be able to provide it to everybody who asks. But some stores haven’t been able to get it from distribution, and others still aren’t aware they can stock it on their shelves.

Part of this is that in the US, V5 Chicago is being handled by our friends at Studio2, while outside the US distributors get the books from the gang at Modiphius. So even distributors need to talk to the appropriate folks.

We understand that the sort of mixed scenario for sales is not a straight line for anybody, but for our community, it’s what we need to do to get more books into stores so you can get them there – as well as online.

    PatMcEvoy_MythicalDenizens.jpg
Mythical Denizens art by Pat McEvoy

It’s especially confusing if you are a long-time fan who came from the days when White Wolf controlled all aspects of the books – from creation right until they showed up in stores. We even had a warehouse that the books shipped out from that was connected to our offices.

This was really good for inventory control, and even better because we could play Four-Square in the warehouse until we got too big for there to be enough space to play among the pallets!

But, things have evolved, and the new White Wolf at Paradox is giving a lot of different folks the chance to create new awesome projects for the WoD setting with 5th Edition. This ties in well with our further efforts at putting certain books into stores, and expanding the sorts of projects that fans will be able to enjoy, it’s just not a straight line any more.

Another factor confusing some folks is that our publishing efforts consist of some of the lines folks recognize from the old WW days, and some new ones. Which, while different in some regards, is something we think is a healthy mix. Impish Ian has created this handy chart:

    PublishingPartners2020-1024x576.jpg

    Hope that helps!

But, if you still have questions, please do reach out to us. You can do that here in the comments, or anywhere on our social media. For game line rules or setting info, our Forums here on the Onyx Path website are also great and we even have specific threads pinned for folks to ask questions of the developers of that line.

We are also always open to hearing from you if you need something clarified that you heard about online. We can’t be everywhere on social media, although our teams tries, and there are some pretty odd ideas floating around that we’ll be glad to give you the real deal about.

One nutty example is the rumor that Eddy owns Pugsteady (which is the true part), but then Pugsteady secretly owns Onyx Path, which secretly owns DTRPG: so Eddy owns DTRPG!

There’s also the one about CCP never actually having sold White Wolf to Paradox. Sometimes combined with the “fact” that I never stopped being employed by White Wolf and created Onyx Path to secretly still run things for them. Which is a hell of a way to spend the last 8 years, let me tell you!

    AlexanderHonore_VigilWatch.jpg
Vigil Watch art by Alexander Honore

But there are also the rumors that can actually harm folks if they are spread around willy-nilly, like Onyx Path not paying our freelancers or being secretly trans-phobic, neither of which is true. Yet can impact both our current creators and also possible creators we could work with.

If you’re a long-time reader of this blog, you probably don’t need us to explain how weird these sorts of rumors are, and we love you for that! BUT, please do tell your friends to let us straighten out any concerns that they might have. They can post here, or if you’re willing, please go ahead and ask us yourself for them.

And to extend this idea, if you are one of our freelance creators, we are always here to listen to your concerns. If none of the usual project-based routes work, you can contact one of our in-house developers who oversee all of our game lines. It’s the same three folks from our weekly Onyx Pathcast: Eddy Webb, Dixie Cochran, and Matthew Dawkins. You can contact Matt McElroy, our Operations guru. All of them have contact info here on the site and are all over our social media.

And you can contact me, at richt@theonyxpath.com

What I’m saying here is: it takes communication to create all of our many projects. Not just within those project teams, and not just between those teams and our other creators who also work on those projects. And not just between us and our sales partners and distributors and stores. And not just between all of us making and selling these games and our community who plays them and reads them.

It’s all interconnected and the more clearly we can communicate, the more likely we are to create even more projects for you to enjoy as we add them to our:

  8. I'm withdrawing as well.

I can't effectively communicate with people and my personality will never mesh with any of the players here.

Enjoy.  Have fun while it lasts and I wish you all the best.  I mean that, sincerely.

  9. Nah.

This is like the 12th or 20th time she's done this.  Frankly I'm sick of the emotional roller coaster.  Let her step aside (since she's offered to) and allow other people to step in and make it work.  It'll offer her the opportunity to play her character, cool off, and let herself regain control of whatever it feels like she's lost.  If she wants to step in the driver's seat again later, I'm sure no one will take issue with it.

  10. Cults-of-the-Blood-Gods.jpg

    Cults of the Blood Gods.

In all of Vampire: The Masquerade‘s history, there’s never been a book wholly dedicated to the diverse faiths and cults among Kindred, the ways in which they practice, their relationships with each other, and how to utilize religion in your chronicles as a force of hope and destruction. Cults of the Blood Gods is the book you want, if you’re interested in incorporating ecclesiastical horror in your games. This book contains everything you need to have each Kindred in your coterie establish a cult, cleave to a unique faith, and establish domains in the name of an ancient methuselah, being of myth, or even the Kindred protagonists themselves. Not only that, it provides the tools necessary to play members of the Clan of Death, once known as the Cappadocians, then the Giovanni, and now the Hecata, as well as new powers for members of a large number of cults, rules for creating your own religions, and an entire story set in Munich with ready-made characters, so you can play immediately upon receipt of the book.

Coming to Kickstarter Tuesday the 17th at 2pm EST.

    “The Last Thanksgiving” by beeple

From all of us at Onyx Path, we’d like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving — or a happy Thursday, to fellow non-Americans. 🙂

We work hard on our games (and we have a lot of them!) and can often be a thankless job. Thank you to all of you who play our games, who join us here on our website or on our social media, who interact with us and keep us connected to the fanbase. We make our games to be played. We make our games for you.

Keep up the great work, and we’ll keep doing the same.

  12. "Good time," D'Sombra replied.  The shadows slithered across the floor and slithered up her legs, under her evening down like ink washing away from her body, but in reverse.  It was impossible, wasn't it?  It licked her skin devouring her dress and before her eyes the shadow wove itself into new clothing, sleek and tight  black vinyl pants and a stylish black turtleneck.  Her belt buckle was a matte black... like the shadows simply solidified themselves into her new attire.  "Bad time.  I assure you dear, I'm a bit of an expert on the subject and there no such thing as either, there is only time."

The moonlight now shined a reflection off her new glossy second skin.  Maya noted she kept the heels, which was a good call because they were just stunning.  "Yet here you are, working your ass off feeling lost and confused.  Unappreciated and uncomfortable..."

Maya jumped, startled as she felt D'Sombra's finger tips gently slide from Maya's shoulder down her arm.  The ancient Spaniard's whisper was a seducing tone in her prey's ears.  "...in your own skin."  Maya slipped away, twisting to face her uninvited guest and looking over her shoulder to where she stood a breath ago and pondering how she had gotten behind her.  No one moved that fast.  It was a blink, a breath, it was...

"Allow me to share with you my expertise, Maya, love.  Time is neither good nor bad, it's all relative.  What you see as good, I may see as bad, and so on, and so on... let the philosophers debate until the end of it for all I care,  Lord knows I'll still be here.  For you though, time is fleeting.  Days tick by and they become weeks, into months, into years... and what, Maya?"

Her apartment crumbled about her, it was melting away like a black candle.  The furniture, the counter tops, the fridge... her cat! Then there was nothing.  Despite the awful blackness that consumed her Maya could still D'Sombra clear as a well lit room.  The puddles of inky blackness that were apartment flowed in reverse now, moving upward and forming shapes as it did, solidifying and gaining color.  Walls with art, obsidian mannequins who took on color and began to move and walk about on their own and then Maya realized... she was back at the Gala.

She took a step back as a strange dizziness came over her as the absurdity of what was happening and her heels clacked on the hardwood floor.  Clacked?  She looked down and she was no longer in her pajamas.  Now she was in designer heels in a flowing black evening gown that exposed far more than her modesty ever would have permitted.  She caught her reflection in the window and she was all made up, and... she was gorgeous.

D'Sombra stepped towards her, moving past a server and slithering around a lawyer or accountant, or something.  "And I'll tell you what.  Time simply is.  It can be used wisely, or it can be wasted.  So I ask you: why are you wasting yours?  You know you were meant for something more.  You can feel it, like a pull, like a dream just on the end of your perceptions but you can never make it out.  Every time it takes form it slips away."

She stood before Maya now, close as a dance partner or a lover.  Ho long had it been since Maya had one of those?  Either of those?  Days, weeks, months... a year?  D'sombra had a power about her, an attraction a presence that lure Maya's attention in and held it there in rapt fascination, hanging on her every word.  "Look at you.  You are beautiful, powerful, and you squander your days being meek and content." her lips were close to Maya's, every word a whispered seduction as her black talon acrylics gently tickled down her cheek.  There she was, lips practically brushing against D'Sombra she was so close... yet in the window, still, there was only Maya.  She looked beautiful, in fact, she'd never seen herself so lovely, but now she saw it... the meek, the scared... the content little Maya...

"I can make you so much more..." The words entered her ears like a promise of a trusted friend or lover and seemed to echo in her mind.

  13. ...and there was Ravenna.  Leaning in the door, smirking deviously as the poor girl tried to get a grasp on the world after a night of drinking.  Maya clutched her chest and stepped back, twisting her neck to the mirror then back to guest, then back to the mirror, then back to her.  She cast no reflection!

"Sorry, dear, did I startle you?"  She possessed an accent now, the one she had well hidden at the party earlier.  Spanish, perhaps?  "I'll give you a moment to collect your thoughts,"  she stepped away from the door and walked into the apartments proper, where the kitchen, living and dining area all met.  Her designer heels clacked on the hard floor as she moved about, swiveling her head to take in all of Maya's kingdom.  "Dear Lord, how do you live like this?  Don't you find yourself... wanting more?"

The moonlight and dim colors of the streets outside lent some shimmer and haze to the dark apartment in the middle of the evening, but the shadows... the darkest parts of her home seemed to dance and sway and reach out.  Slithering across the walls and floors like obsidian serpents always there and always swaying just out of reach and always at the very corner of Maya's perception.

  14. Araya-Mummy-Chapter-01-Grayscale-300dpi-

My Mummy told me we’ve passed 200% funding and have over 1000 backers for the Mummy: The Curse 2nd Edition KS, so I’m coming unwrapped over the news!

Or something like that! Sometimes the metaphors flow like cold molasses. Speaking of which, last week was a very sloooow week for pledges, and we had a couple of the bigger ticket reward tiers get dropped in favor of lower ones, so getting to these milestones feels pretty great. Still, we’re looking to keep going for the last week of pledging and hit a bunch more KS stretch goals.

To be fair, one of the bright spots and effective ways we’re getting the word out has been with Actual Plays and interviews – some on our Twitch channel and on other sites as well – and we’ve seen upticks in pledging every time one of those goes live. In fact, you can find links to them below in the Onyx Path Media section of the Blurbs!, as well as on the Mummy: The Curse 2nd Edition KS page itself.

That’s what we’re doing to spread word about this new 2nd edition of Mummy: The Curse, yet we still need the help of our mummy cult horde. Please let your friends know, retweet our Mummy tweets, like our Mummy Facebook posts – you never know when one of your actions will be the torch that illuminates Mummy for a whole new section of possible fans!

I thank you, my father thanks you, and my Mummy thanks you, too.

Here are some other topics we discussed today in our Monday Meeting:

    • Sometimes we get asked where they can buy a project that shows up on social media. Just in general, if you run across this: every project we make will show up as a PDF and PoD on DTRPG. The only ones that wouldn’t have a PoD are those that can’t, like our Game Screens. PLUS, we are putting more and more projects into retail stores, so if you see a project that was Kickstarted in the last couple of years, you can be pretty sure it will be be in stores, and/or available on the Indie Press Revolution and Studio2 websites.
    • Speaking of Studio2, we want to point out that they will also be attending PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia in just a little more than two weeks. Since they will be bringing and selling our books and stuff, and will be right next to our Onyx Path booth, we won’t be selling anything there, but we will be gaming in the booth and out in the demo area. We’ll definitely be talking though, with new brochures, and shirts, and we’ll be announcing a couple of projects at the con. Plus, we may have an advance copy of V5 Chicago By Night to show off at our booth!
    Blamire_TCFBTS1-1.jpg
They Came From Beneath the Sea! art by Larry Blamire
    • Which leads to this little topic: I’ve mentioned that we have multiple secret projects we’re working on, and let me tell you, the guesses as to what they might be have been absolutely amazing! Almost none are correct, but it has been a delight to read everyone’s ideas. In general, I’m only referring to TTRPG projects that we have control over; anything else usually has too many other folks involved for me to include that kind of project on the list. And really, we have so many cool TTRPG projects coming that we don’t really need to count anything else!
    • December looks like it’s going to be Trinity Continuum month for our Wednesday on sale offerings! With December being the month that the Trinity Continuum and TC: Aeon core books start going on sale in stores, and the PDFs and PoDs going live on DTRPG, we’ll actually have a couple of items becoming available every week in order to leave the last week open for our monthly Exalted PDF releases.
    AaronRiley_AeonRMCs.png
TC: Aeon RMCs art by Aaron Riley
    • We’ve had a fantastic response to the Wolfenoot sale and Mighty Matt McElroy will be parsing in more detail how that went next week after the sale ends in a couple of days, I’m sure! Meanwhile, it was super to see how folks responded so far, especially considering that we’ll be helping out some deserving doggos! A bunch of posts in our forums and elsewhere shared what other people in our community did for the holiday, and those were often very inspiring.
    • And then, right after that sale, DTRPG jumps right into their traditional orgy of sales: their Black Friday and then their Cyber Monday sales! More info on that in the Blurbs! below, but suffice to say that a huge number of our PDFs will have ridiculous sales savings all through those days. I always see these sales as a super opportunity for folks to expand their interests in our game lines. Either by picking up supplements for a line they’re into, or by jumping in on a low-cost way to try a line they might not have been able to try before. A great way to experience our:

    Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Not today, but this week, is Thanksgiving Day (on Thursday) in the US. For me, this isn’t a historical holiday with all the weight of that, nor a football holiday, it’s not even a food-gorging holiday even though we do have a big dinner with our celebration. For me, and how we celebrate it in my family, this is literally a day of thanks. Of being thankful and grateful for the previous year and all of the people in our lives who made a difference in a good way.

For all of us here at the Onyx Path, that means all of you folks! Thank YOU, for allowing us to do what we love because of your support!

  15. pugmire-map-not-final-218x300.jpg

As art is rolling in for Pirates of Pugmire, one of the big discussions we’ve been having is about maps. Not whether a map is necessary — I mean, what kind of game about pirates could I make without a cool map? No, the discussion has been about how the various Pugmire maps relate to each other.

See, I didn’t start creating Pugmire with the whole world planned out in my head. I know it’s common for fantasy games these days to have a huge map of intriguingly-named areas, but I didn’t want to do that. There are a few reasons for this.

First, I wanted to explore the world as I was creating it. If I have everything set in stone, I find I get bored with just filling in the gaps later on. So I learned a lot about Pugmire when I was writing the first book. That’s why, if you look at the area map in the Pugmire book, there’s an area labelled “Cats?” on the far-right side: I figured I wanted to put the Monarchies of Mau on the other side, but I didn’t know more than that. (In fact, at the time I was still calling them the Kingdoms of Mau!)

Secondly, one of my design goals for Pugmire was to evoke some of the nostalgia I had for old-school fantasy gaming. Part of that is never quite knowing what’s on the other side of the mountains, or where that river leads to. Setting up discrete areas of a world allows Guides to invent new areas easily without feeling hemmed in by “canon.” I know some folks prefer to have everything laid out at once, but that’s not the style of game I prefer, and I don’t want to write a game I wouldn’t have fun playing.

Finally, because the world is ostensibly ours, I didn’t want to pigeonhole Pugmire to any specific real-world location. I’ve had a lot of interesting speculation on where Pugmire is “really” located, but in truth, I don’t know. It’s so far in the future that continental drift and advanced technology has probably changed the shape of our world significantly. So I just didn’t bother trying to have a fixed map ahead of time.

But there have been seven books prior to Pirates of Pugmire. The game centered on the Acid Sea, which touched both nations, so we had to work with a mapmaker to combine the scraps we had from various books into a cohesive whole. And through that process, I discovered a few things about the world.

    • I still don’t know what’s in the plains west of Pugmire or the desert east of Angora. I actually asked the mapmaker to put question marks in those areas! It’s the first time I’ve ever spelled out “I don’t know what’s in these parts of the world, so please make it up.” (Now, if I had to guess, I suspect most of the area to the west is overrun with the badger tribes, while the area to the east is largely uninhabited except by a few wandering tribes of geckos and serpents. But I won’t know for sure until I write something there.)
    • My decision to not give a scale to the maps ended up coming back to haunt me. Since the rules involve the dangers of travel over the sea, time is a factor, which means I needed to give at least rough estimates of how long it takes to sail between points of interest. I went with a vague “days” length to give me some room, but the fact is that you can now start to estimate how large the respective cities are. Luckily, my approximate math seems to have borne out — for example, I always intended that the Fearful Forest would be HUGE — but it was a realization I had fairly late in the book’s development process.

So if you’re waiting breathlessly for a complete map of the Realms of Pugmire, it probably won’t be for a long time. Possibly not ever, but I suspect at some point I’ll need to have at least a rough idea of what the world looks like as new projects have different demands for world detail. But don’t wait for me. Draw up your own, and make the Realms of Pugmire whatever you want it to be in your chronicle!

  16. Horatio's cheeks flushed.  It was subtle, but it was there.  Casey sure wasn't the beat around the bush, demure type, that was for sure.  He managed a smile, a polite one that told her he wasn't goign to stay.  She'd read faces in the courtroom of times and could tell a lot from their expression.  "Ah, no.  No, I'm sorry but I-I should get going...," he managed another, flushed smile that almost gave him a schoolboy quality charm to him.  "Thank you for the wine, though."

He stepped out and turned as she was closing the door.  "Should you need anything, Casey, please, just call."  A polite nod signified the begin of his long walk down the hallway of her apartment building.

  18. "I don't know,"  he shook his head as he considered the question.  "It's possible.  I have my team consulting with jagglings, so, we may know more in the few days.  I think she might be though.  Ravenna doesn't do anything by mistake.  Maya was as out of place as a person could be and if she wasn't supposed to be there, well, I know Raven.  Maya would be three pints low and begging for death.  Instead, she was cordial, which means she wants something from Maya."

  19. "She's offered to meet with you, next week."  He paced a bit faster, excited that she seemed ready to go along with it.  "Show up, meet, put up with her ego and attitude," he pointed at Casey and stopped his pacing.  "Don't piss her off.  I know that's asking a lot, I've known her for four decades and I want to press her face into a wall every time I talk to her, but a woman like her you need to play up to her ego.  Swallow the pride pill and just see what you can find out.  Before next Friday, we'll get together and I'll introduce you to my pack, er, my team."

  20. "That's just it," he paused.  "The people I deal with, and, possibly you and the other Chosen at some point, aren't exactly... well, people, Casey.  Spirits, demons, angels, you name it, everyone wants a thumb in the Chosen's pie, but they're all very old and greedy and won't tell us why.  They're not really the doorbell type, either."

    "I can imagine," Casey chuckled.

"We need to know who the other Chosen are, and I think Ravenna knows."  He motioned towards her with his wine glass.  "She's invited you to meet with her.  We can use this, if you're willing.  Do you own a 'little black dress'?"
