  1. ,, Casey laughed and shook her head. "Oh no, I didn't mean 'tear' like that; for some reason, the rapid reading doesn't harm the paper the way you'd think it would, although I guess there could be some wear issues over time. it's more like...." ,, She held up a heaping forkful of eggs. "If I really wanted to, I could devour this whole breakfast in seconds flat." There was a brief blur of motion, and the eggs were gone before the human eye had time to register the movement. "Like that. And yeah, sometimes if I'm late for class, I pull that stunt, but in general, I try to savor each bite. But I love reading more than I love food. Now if I have a book I really like, like a good Jack London story or something, I can savor that as well. But with a big library like ours?" The blonde shook her head sadly. "That's like...locking a sugar addict inside a Pixie Stix factory; 'Om Nom Nom' doesn't even cover it." ,, Casey set down her fork and turned to Patricia. "So your father wants us to meet him at the library after breakfast? That's cool." She shuddered playfully as she resumed eating. "Maybe I can wear some horse blinders so I don't see all those tasty books..."
  2. Casey shook her head at the mention of the library. "I have not; to be honest, I'm a little nervous to check it out." She gestured vaguely with her fork. "Due to my super-speed, I kind of...tear through books. As in, rereading the whole Harry Potter series in about thirty seconds." She shook her head and chuckled. "I'm kind of afraid that once I see all those books, I won't be able to stop." ,, When Kia joined them, the blonde girl grinned and held up her tray, which was almost as heavily loaded as the young Japanese girl's own. "Look at us; Giant Breakfast Buddies!" At the mention of plans, she shrugged, causing the shoulders of her hoodie to bunch up slightly as she started to dig in again. ,, "I dunno; I was thinking of maybe doing another scouting flight around the campus, looking for interesting stuff; you find the coolest places tucked away on rooftops. Nice places to sit and think." Then she gave Alex a slightly awkward look. "Uh, y'know. if you ever need a lift on days like today, I could-" She pointed her hands skyward and made a sort of 'psssh' sound. "Those caves sound cool, too, though."
  3. Casey entered the cafeteria a few minutes later, looking very casual in a rain-splattered US Air Force hoodie, sweatpants and a well-worn pair of Nikes; she grabbed a tray and got extra-large portions of everything (including a simply HUGE glass of orange juice), then scanned around until she spotted Alex, one of her friends. The blonde adjusted her glasses and ambled over to her table. ,, "Hey, Alex!" She grabbed a seat and carefuly lowered her heavily-laden tray. "What's up?" Casey noticed the other girl's sour mood, then looked out the windows at the gray sky and grimaced. "Ah; 'rainy days and Mondays', huh? Sucks to be solar powered." Then she began to dig into her morning feast with gusto.
  4. Question before I post: is the understanding that we all know each other and are fairly familiar with the school at this point? ,, Also Reb I just noticed that it appears you had the original story threads deleted; while I undertand the desire to start with a clean slate, I'm kind of bummed that all that character development is now gone. Was it saved anywhere, or do we just have to start from scratch? I ask because it's been a while since I've written for Casey, and I was hoping to refresh my memory by rereading her old posts.
  5. Casey would be by a window, for sure, and probably as close to the cockpit as she can manage, probably on the left hand side; as far as her tech goes: ,, Audio recorder (digital) Laptop computer Smartphone w/ camera ,, Also I am more-or-less back, so we can move forward!
  6. By 'Pearl Harbor', do you mean the location in Hawaii, or somewhere else? And am I correct in assuming Casy flew out to the rendezvous point under her own power?
  7. It might just be easiest having us arrive on our first day, Hogwarts-style; some sort of train from Seattle or the like, that goes through a high-speed underwater tunnel or the like could work, or a hovercraft with a fog generator. I think just get us there and we can figure out out together.

When she's not wearing her school uniform, she typically wears flannel shirts, loose-cut jeans and light hiking boots, though she also favors T-shirts, khaki cargo shorts and Teva sandals in season. Casey still wears her old glasses, even though she no longer needs them; she feels they help to maintain her 'ordinary girl' cover, plus she just really likes the way they look on her! PERSONALITY Casey is thoughtful and introspective, sometimes bordering on introverted; she makes friends easily enough, but she prefers a small circle of good friends to a large one filled with casual acquaintances. She takes her studies very seriously, and dreams of being a reporter for the Miami Herald someday, just like her grandfather. Casey tries to tell the truth at all times, but understands that a secret identity does require the occasional 'white lie', as much as it pains her. Outside of journalism, her interests include almost any sort of outdoor activity (hiking, camping, skiing and white-water rafting are among her favorites), as well as reading, playing board games and shopping with friends. Casey has also loved aviation since she was a little girl, something her pilot father instilled in her; even though she can now fly under her own power, she still hopes to earn her pilot's license someday. BACKGROUND Up until recently, Casey only knew her dad as Colonel Steve Blankenship of the US Air Force, who worked for NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain; she had no idea that her father was actually Vigilant ('America's First Line of Defense!') and would probably have never found out, due to concerns over national security. Her and her mother live in Colorado Springs, where she attended the Air Academy High School before transferring to the Alabaster Academy. It was during a weekend trip to North Cheyenne Cañon Park with friends that her powers first developed; the car they were in slipped off the road and would have plunged the four teens to their deaths if Casey hadn't flown them all to safety. After the incident, the four youths were taken to a secret facility near the air base where it was explained to them who Casey's father was and how important it was that his identity be kept a secret; Casey's friends promised not to tell anyone, but sadly protocol required a partial mindwipe. As a result, her friends no longer remember the details of her friendship, and Casey lost the love of her boyfriend as well; the loss was devastating, and she holds her father largely responsible (though she holds onto a nugget of guilt herself). Now at a new school with no friends, Casey is bravely trying to make a new start; perhaps there's an opening on the school paper... COMPLICATIONS Motivation: Doing Good. Casey is young and idealistic, and wishes to use her newfound powers to make the world a better place. "Yeah, he's my dad...": Casey's father is Col. Steve Blankenship, aka Vigilant, 'America's First Line of Defense'. It's not quite as cool as it sounds. Rival: Vicki Van Statten is the illegitimate daughter of Vigilant and the super-genius known as The Analyst, a half-sister Casey never knew she had before coming to the Academy. They do not get along very well. POWER POINTS Abilities 30 + Powers 70 + Advantages 3 + Skills 11 + Defenses 9 = 123 Total
  9. Okay, then I have an extra complication to drop; I guess her famous dad is more just a part of her background, so maybe I will keep her on-campus NPC rival instead.
  10. I agree with Dawn on the 'First Year/Second Year' terminology; it makes the most sense, since while we are all starting out, calling us 'freshmen' would seem insulting, and the last thing you want to do is alienate a bunch of teenagers with superpowers! BTW, how many students will there be, both PCs and NPCs, in total?
  11. I am totally down for the 'first class' concept; it allows for mistakes from both the player and GM, and I think that's a GOOD thing. Freshman will be harder to swing, but as the first class we get some of those 'freshie' benefits without the age conflict. As a special academy, S.T.A.R.S. might sort of blend right into college in a way. I am really excited by this game, and welcome Dave!
