Alex Green
RE: TunnelingHeritage and I have been PM'ing each other, and it looks like we are going with the two movement types doing different things option. I.e. Movement leaves a tunnel, Propel leaves earth/rock.That's the good news. The better news is Vlad's speed doing this kind of thing is pretty decent. The really bad news is anyone who goes with him runs the risk of being buried alive, or running out of air, or whatever. Personally I think the base won't be up long enough for the transports to take everyone out, but do we even have anywhere to go?
Asbjørn
The really bad news is anyone who goes with him runs the risk of being buried alive, or running out of air, or whatever. Not necessarily. We don't have to go far underground, just away from the immediate vicinity of the base and out somewhere nobody expects there to be an entrance.,,Personally I think the base won't be up long enough for the transports to take everyone out, but do we even have anywhere to go?Run to the hills! The smart thing to do is to scatter, lie low and then regroup at another place and a later time. Of course, directions and orders should be coming from the CO, but since he ain't paying any attention, I guess it's up to us... ::cool I just have to check a few things with H first... ::unsure

Heritage
Just so people know, 8th Battalion HQ is about seventy miles to the north of WS Bravo, but a tunnel 2-3 miles would get you clear of the Lookout Mountain where Bravo is located. Also be aware of the fact that the Cascades are an active volcanic range; Mt. St. Helens is about twenty miles due north of your current position, so it mighty be a little toasty if you go down too deep. ::devil

Playing a combat veteran scout with superhuman smarts and a gift for tactics isn't exactly what my own life has prepared me for... ::biggrin ::laugh I'm no Grizzly Adams myself. Here's an idea for you: Can Hood use his time-powers on Vlad to help him dig faster? If Vlad can move 50 miles an hour and Hood speeds him up, together they could make it the 70 miles to Bravo pretty fast. Hood can also check with any of the NPCs standing around and see if they can help with the tunnel or transport(ie, anyone else with movement powers that can help carry people down the tunnel?)
Alex Green
I was going to say that making Vlad move faster wasn't a big thing considering he's already creating the tunnel faster than most people are going to be able to use it....But when I think about it having him finish creating the tunnel would be a good move because it would give us a second air hole, and it would also prevent the "tunnel to nowhere" syndrome. I.e. if there are troops (or lava, or whatever) already in the valley then it's best we find out about it before the tunnel is filled. It also lets Vlad be in two spots at once, ie. he can finish the tunnel and then be on hand to close any tunnels that need closing before/during the base being over run.
Asbjørn
Yes, a sped up Vlad would be able to make a tunnel pretty damn fast, but we wouldn't be able to travel at that speed and there's no guarantee it would last long enough given the circumstances and local geology. For just a short tunnel like the one Hood suggested Vlad's basic speed is more than fast enough. Besides, Hood would rather just get out of harm's way and lie low till the storm passes, then get back to check out the damage...Not to mention that if they do find us in the tunnel, we're all dead. Above ground we at least stand a chance...
BlueNinja
Plus, given that air is rushing in to fill the tunnel, do you really want to create the tunnel faster than the air can safely fill it? The people waiting to evacuate are a bunch of baselines who will probably end up bruised at the least - plus there's the myriad of small, lightweight objects that will come flying down the tunnel searching for the back of Vlad's head. ::biggrin
archer
For Zeke...(or anyone else): Just to make it clear, Rourke is unarmed. He's dressed in the same thick grayish-white winter clothing he was wearing on Permafrost, minus the heavy coat. So no, he's definitely not wearing any sort of Green uniform. When I get home tonight I'll try to post a pic from the COH generator to give you all a clearer idea of what he looks like. archer
My bad, I guess I wasn't being clear. I was just trying to OOCly help answer Havoc's statement about whether Rourke is a Green...as far as Havoc can tell, Rourke isn't wearing anything that might denote his being part of the Green military. Judy on the other hand should be in her uniform. Does that make more sense now?

True, though right now its the clones that are there, Havoc himself won't reunite (which kinda makes it worse. ::smile )...chances are you'd probably want to move ASAP as you got back. Even if its empty right now, Joey knows where it is...Btw, chances are that I won't be able to post for the next couple of days...feel free to have the clones disappear or just working in the background. Prince of Boredom
Hey guys, I would like to apologize profusely for my extended absence recently. My only lame excuse is that real life (read work) has been kicking my ass as of late, and will continue through about Thursday of this week (I'm the primary organizer of a conference for roughly 25 colonels). That said, I'm starting to try and catch up now, I may not be able to post tonight, but should catch up enough to be able to post tomorrow. Again, I'm really sorry.POB

I was hoping to join in soon, just haven't heard back from Heritage. Is that opening still available? Prince of Boredom
Hey guys, sorry for my long absence, but I have finally recovered from my hellish week last week. Heritage
Hey gang. Sorry to be such a spotty poster for the last month or so; between class, rehersal, running my tabletop D&D game and my usual low-grade depression (which really gets to be annoying after awhile ::angry), I have been less than productive online, and I apologize. Money issues are still plaguing me, and it's looking like a second part-time job might have to be the answer, which may reduce my energy, but I'm hoping more cash will at least alieveate some stress. So what I'm going to try to do is post about twice a week, but make the posts nice and meaty; this also might mean my response time on PMs might be a little slow, so I ask you to bear with me. If I can sneak in little quickie posts, I will do so, maybe during lunch breaks at work.I really do love this setting and I like the mix of characters we have in it, and I look forward to adding new players like SkyLion as well. War Journal is important to me and I hope it is to you, too; maybe not to the point of obsession like me, but still important ::wink I am sorry that my wacky well of creativity comes with a certain amount of cliched emotional baggage ("Ah, zee tortured artiste! 'Ow he does suffer!"), but until I can afford therapy again, this is what you get ::tongue So enough whining and hand-wringing - let's do this. First big post should be hitting in about nine hours ::thumbup1

Alex Green
Making his way into the newly formed tunnel, he makes his way to its creator, "Sir, Specialist Smith, is there anything I can do to help?"Sorry PoB. Vlad doesn't so much create a tunnel as he leaves one behind him. Without flight or something you'll have to wait until he finishes and comes back. Heritage
Okay, seeing as Tooho has not posted in over a month, I feel compelled to NPC her for a little while; nothing major, just working around her mostly, but maybe one or two short bits of dialogue. The minute she posts again, I will of course step back completely and let her run the show. Zeke, feel free to post the multiple Havoci appearing at X-4; my last post there was meant to let you go ahead and do that, sorry if I didn't make that clear.I will be doing short posts in bursts throughout the day. Heritage
So in the spirit of the "Summer of Love" groove that's going around EON with the Prof's return, I'm actually thinking of maybe restarting War Journal 2; I was rereading it and I really miss the characters. Prof if you want to bring in Halle Jordan from Trans-D that would be cool; I love Rex but I'd like to try something new, if you'd be cool with that. PM me if you have any questions.I make no promises of long term commitment, but I think this will be fun ::smile
