Trinity Universe: Anyone running any games?

I've been toying with the idea of running something on here. To be honest I was waiting to play in someone else's game, instead of being ST all the time, but without much luck so far...

Still, if anyone's interested, it'd be a game for starting level characters (Novas or, if anyone wanted, Baselines, but no Inspired or Psions or anything). The main criteria would be no allegences (or Backing) - characters would be newly erupted (if Novas) & searching for their places in the world. I'd allow most stuff from the Aberrant books, but I tend to frown on the indescriminant use of Merits & Flaws, & would stomp on many Strengths & Weaknesses, allowing such things only if they were vital to the character & couldn't be done any other way.

Most likely scene 1 would be at a reception hosted by a large corporation rumoured to be looking for new recruits, to which the characters have been invited. If people seem interested I'll post the first description as a new thread & you can just jump-in whenever you feel like it. Anyone who wanted to play could just send their character stats to me as a message for final approval, but if it's been designed with the above paragraph in mind then presume it'll be ok unless (or until) I say otherwise.

I'd roll any dice & stuff myself, so you guy's would just have to worry about role-playing.

So any takers?

Right, still trying to think up a reasonable name for the game, but I'll get on with some relevant background on the game world:

**********

"Masters International" - one of the largest & richest corporations in the world. How did it all begin?...

... Johnathon Masters was born in 1900 but never knew his parents. He was raised at the "St Dominic's Home for Foundlings" in the notorious Bowery district of New York City. His early years were a catalog of trouble & fights with other children, but his life changed in the early days of World War 1 when he met a young Texan pilot, George "Tex" Longabaug, who was in New York to catch a ship to Europe in the hopes of joininng up with the French air service. Johnny tagged along, & ended-up as an air-ace himself, rivaling fellow American Jake "Danger Ace" Stefokowski in his aerial prowess.

After the war Johnny purchased two surplus British Sopwith Camel fighter planes (brought with money he won off Danger Ace in a bet, if the stories are to be believed), & together with Tex & some support staff he'd met in the war (including the engineering genius Professor Heironymus Potts) he traveled the world as a flyer-for-hire, mercenary, barnstormer, & anything else than made him money.

After a few years Johnny made enough money to purchase an air field on Long Island &, with the Professor's genius to back him up, started Masters International, bringing the wonders of air travel to the world. During the '20s MI had a fleet of three "Sky Master"-class dirigibles making the ground-breaking weekly trans-Atlantic crossing, & another two providing coast-to-coast transport across the States. Masters also started to branch into film making (in both Germany & California), newspapers, radio, cruise liners, fashion, & (blatantly breaking the prohibition laws of the time) nightcubs.

Jonny Masters himself was no stranger to scandal during this time. His first German film, often described today as "an erotic masterpiece" was denounced as pornographic. He had a son, but the identity of the mother remained unknown to the public, & Masters was certainly not married. His ties with organised crime were never really denied. He was accused of encouraging drinking, promiscuity, opium use, & other vices. There was speculation about romanitic involvement between the millionaire (for, by that time, he was one of the world's richest men) & Professor Pott's young grand-daughter Hunni (only fifteen years of age when the rumours started), as well as a string of other women.

On the other side of the coin, Masters was an innovative & far-sighted businessman. He introduced policies of equality in employment (for men & women of all races & cultures) that had his peers labeling him mad, or a Marxist, but that today reflect well on the man. He also introduced profit-sharing schemes thoughout his corporate empire, & revitalised the Manhattan garment distrct into a fashion capital of the world. Of his less-than-legal enterprises he was oft quoted as saying, "I just give people what they want."

During the '30s Master International weathered the Great Depression better than most, sparking rumours in later years of Masters' involvment in some global economic conspiracy, but most likely due to the loyalty he'd instilled in his work-force, & his willingness to sacrifice his own fortune to make sure that those he employed didn't suffer through the bad times. Towards the end of the decade the company took on several lucrative military contracts, making fighter planes & other aircraft, as well as branching into general munitions also. When World War 2 started the company was poised to make a killing (no pun intended).

After the second World War (in which both Johnny & his son Charles fought), Masters International firmly established itself as a world-leading airline & aircraft maufacturer, as well as continuing to work with the military, & pioneering advances in jet engines & rocketry. The media side of the business, Masters-Global-Media (MGM), & Masters Fashion were also industry leaders, although aircraft & weapons was where the company made it's really big money. Charles Masters' own son, William, was born in 1950, soon after his marriage to one Tatianna Maxwell, the daughter of a close family friend.

Into the '60s & Masters International helped lead America into space, although rumours that Masters himself had connections in the Russian govenment lingered well into the '70s. In the mid-'60s Johnny stepped down as company president & Charles took over, steering the corporation into the exciting new fields of computers & other advanced technologies.

By the '70s MGM controlled media networks all over the planet, & owned many of the first commercial communications satellites. Even at this early stage the company was paving the way for computer networks & the Internet, in typical Masters style - always one step ahead of the competition.

The '80s realised many of the technologies Masters International had helped to pioneer, although by this time, despite still being a world-leader & innovator in many fields, the corporation was loosing momentum as other businesses caught up with MI's technology. Charles Masters still insisted on treating his employees like his family, with fair pay & conditions for all, down to the lowliest janitor, even in those countries where others were exploiting the cheap labour. This started to hit the company economically, but Masters wouldn't budge, & MI's postion started to slip down the corporate ladder.

The '90s were troubling times for MI investors. Firstly Charles stepped down to be replaced by his son William, an unknown element at that time. Secondly William invested heavily in uncertain areas of R. & D., as his father & grandfather had done before him, but the risks seemed higher, & the payoffs less certain. In particular MI became heavily involved in the funding & development of a new research satallite, the "Galatea"...

... March 23, 12:18 PM GST - the Galatea research satallite exploded. Along with the chaos the rest of the world was soon to face many MI investors despaired at that moment, some were even driven to suicide. The company had risked all with the Galatea, it had been a typical Masters make-or-break descision, but this time the family luck had run out. Or so it seemed at the time...

... In the months following the Galatea disaster the financial vultures started to circle Masters International, waiting for it's last death-spasms to cease. William Masters recieved death-threats, & only just survived two actual attempts on his life. Whilst the world coped with the coming of the Novas the 3rd generation millionaire vanished from public life. The company was ended, the dream was over. Then in December of '98 William suddenly reappeared. He revealed to the board his plan to save the company, & it was pure Masters gold. Firstly he declared that, through his mother, he personally had a stake in the recently famous Triton Foundation, & was going to use that, & the rest of his personal fortune, to help stabilise the company (both financially & reputation-wise). Secondly he introduced several young men & women to the board, all of them Novas, & all of them loyal employees of MI. MI's years of care for their employees had paid-off: of the many thousands of employees the company had around the world, naturally several had erupted. William had vanished not to hide from assassins, but to organise, in secret, a project to identify & help these new eruptees. The Novas were, naturally, grateful for MI's care both before & after they had erupted. A few left for other careers, but MI still ended up with more Novas on the pay-roll than most in those first few months. A few of these had been scientists & researchers working on various high-tech projects, & had erupted with the increased mental capacity now known as "Mega-Intelligence". With the help of these Novas the company's long-term technological stratagies were sped-up, new technologies were developed, & the business was saved. MGM being the first ever company to release a film staring a Nova actress (the Mega-Attractive Janet Thorne) also helped to no small degree!

In the ten years since Galatea the company has settled down from it's late-'90s roller-coaster ride. It still employs Novas, although not as many as certain other companies today (Masters' policy of equal-opportunities still stands, so many Novas go elsewhere for the ridiculous uber-salaries other companies are willing to pay them - Masters pays them well, & provides excellent working conditions, but refuses to alienate it's baseline employees). MI has good relations with Project Utopia, but, like many other technology companies, resents somewhat PU's policing of Nova-tech. MGM is still a world-leader, although it's recently been losing out to N!; Masters Fashion has suffered quite badly in the market-place, due to William Masters' refusal to include Eufibre designs in the company's catalog (& refusal to explain why to anyone).

Masters International's current (known) projects include: the Isis space-plane (a project to develop a comercially viable space vehicle able to achieve orbit & re-entry unassited), & the Skymaster 3000 (a reintroduction of airships using the latest technologies, focusing on "sky cruises" & luxury, as well as business applications), as well as rumoured military technologies being developed for the US government (thought by most to be applications of energy weapons).

Masters International still has it's corporate headquarters in the "Masters Building" (Johnny Masters had a considerable ego) in the middle of Manhattan. When it was built, back in the '20s, it was the world's tallest building, but has since been dwarfed by even larger neighbors. The top few floors are the Masters private residence, & the ground floor hosts the world-famous "Club Atlantis", once the least-secret speakeasy in New York, & now a high-tech nightclub popular with the rich & famous the word over. On occassion Club Atlantis is the setting for various MI corporate functions.

So, that's the background to the corporate reception the characters have been invited to. I'll start the game thread proper when (if) I can think of a good name for it. In the mean-time feel free to send character ideas (or even full stats) to me, with an indication of the style of game you're after (although I may well ignore such things, being a tyranical sort, Bwahahahahahah!!!!). ::devil

Hey, I'll accept all-comers. Those who run games for me get double Nova points! Well, ok, maybe not, but you're welcome all the same.

::biggrin

I'm thinking about calling the game "Quantum Zero" - I started a thread over on the WW Trinity Universe forum for an unrelated reason, but I'm kinda' liking the ring that has to it. Hmmm, we'll see. I'll sleep on it. ::sleeping

Well, I've received a character from El Enano Gigante (don't panic, it's not a midget), so I guess I better start this thing off.

Anyone wanting to cunningly influence the ST before the game proper begins best send me a character soon... ::wink

Since I've not been flamed for it yet, I'll stick with the title "Quantum Zero".

Now to get into ST mode... ::smokin

hey there.

Sorry for the delay, but for some reason the main Forum link in the top right isn't working for me.

Got the Forum's bookmarked now, so that'll no longer be an issue. ::smiley10

Char should be finished in the next hour or two (just starting it, so it depends on how busy I am in work).

Am quite looking forward to playing.... ::bigsmile

Yo, Profpotts.

Been trying to send you charactor stuff all morning through the site, and it's been giving me nothing but grief (aka SMTP errors).

Can you PM me a real email address so I can send you the char stats and background?

Cheers. ::thumbsup

Brilyn, I've got your message / character 4 times! I came home from work & there they were... ::confused

Good stuff by the way, I've sent a reply, so let's see you "in game"! ::biggrin

I'm pretty sure my e-mail's ok, other people have sent me stuff - but my computer expertise mostly involves hitting the infernal Babbage Engine with my boot! ::sly

No, error wasn't on your end.

I suspect it's something to do with work and their firewall. I kept getting SMTP errors when hitting send, so I presumed it hadn't sent, hence the multiple attempts, and the PM saying "I need a real email address!!!!" ::blush

Anywho, all good now, will attempt to get stuff working. Must.... break.... multi-nationals...... firewall......... ::ninja

Nah, only kidding! You're welcome to join, the more the merrier! (Er, within reasonable limits, naturally...)

Just send me a character & jump in (barring my evil ::devil Veto that is).

::biggrin
