Scion: Legends of the Wild West - Part 1b: For A Few Scions More

Ouroboros

Recommended Posts

Ian had spotted the difficulty Chrys was having with the rotting creatures, but was still too engrossed with his own struggle against the zombies to be able to assist her. As he took brief aim and fired at zombie lashing out towards him, he called out over the battle to the blacksmith.

"Hang on, Miz Chrys - Had, could you give the lady a hand? Ah'm a bit busy over here!"

Let Mr. "Son of the Mountain" have all his flashy attacks - Ian preferred a bullet between the eyes (or in the general vicinity, at least) every time - if he didn't want his opponent getting back up, that is. And that was apparently good for the dead as well as the living, as he was finding out tonight.

Rolling for Damage: 5d10 → [6,2,8,1,8] = 2 suxx

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2555761/

+2 more dice for Weapon Acc: 2d10 → [4,8] = 1 suxx

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2555766/

2 + 1 + 2 (auto-suxx) = 5 suxx vs. DV1 for Fierce Blow.

Damage is 4L (weapon base) + 5L (threshold sux) +2L (fierce blow) +1 (assuming the book still says so?) = 12L (forgot the 1 at the end at first, so adding a 1d10 roll).

11d10 → [9,9,4,2,9,10,9,5,8,9,2] + 1d10 → [2] = 8 dmg - 6 soak = 2L

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2555773/

There.. hopefully that got it all for you, and saved you some work. laugh I assumed same soak, of course.

ST OOC Edit: Actually your threshold sux is 4 (5 sux - Dv 1) so the extra die on damage isn't needed, luckily it was a fail so you don't lose anything from it.

Ian's bullet tore half of the zombie's head away exposing brains and bone. Somehow the thing kept coming forward even as the contents of it's head began to slide and ooze out. Nearby Chrys was under assault from the pair of zombie's with attacks coming in faster than she could dish out in return. Luckily the scion of the forge was quick enough to avoid most of the clumsy blows.

Chrys jumped backwards and shot a glare at the new zombie combatant. "You cheeky sumbitch," she accused, hefting her hammer. "You'd better jus' sit down an' wait yer turn. There's plenty of asskickin' for all!"

She spun her arm around in a full circle to gather momentum, then pulled it from that into a brutish sideways arc that clocked the skyfire-scorched zombie nastily across the side of its decayed jaws!

1 damage to zombie 2, still kickin'
Chrys' attack hit the zombie with a brushing glance that pushed the undead sideways. The other took advantage of the opening and moved in for an attack of its own while the creature pinning Morgan continued to crush the man with undead strength and unflagging muscles. The man groaned as the breath was forced out by the unrelenting pressure on his chest and he quickly passed out. The zombie dropped the unconscious form to the ground and readied to focus on the interlopers.

"You are aware that all that huffing and puffing you're doing to show off is lost on these imbeciles. They're dead, they can't understand you." The faint echo of Betty rose up over the battle.

"Y'mean...?" He replied, looking for another target to waste.

"Uh huh." One could almost see the sarcastic grin in her tone.

"And they can't?" He asked, zeroing in on the next target of his divine retribution.

"Nope."

"Aw hell!" Like a raging bull he shot stormed off, hovering over the sand and dried earth of the desert. Everyone seemed to be handling theirs well enough, except this Morgan character. "That was some good stuff too! Ugh, someone's gon' get it..."

Soaring through the fight he reach out and scooped up the Zombie that had just crushed Morgan, spiraling a few times he spun about like a man about to toss a discus and then finally let go. "May well be you!" He shouted as the zombie was lobbed for over eighty yards (264 feet).

Yards away the zombie tore into the ground in a puff of dust, tumbling and bouncing before slamming into a giant boulder jutting from the ground, far from the combat zone.

Hadicall easily outpowered the zombie and freed the unconscious man. Morgan fell limp to the ground as his captor was sent sailing into the night. Undeterred by the loss of another of their member the remaining zombies continued their relentless, if futile, attacks.

This was getting annoying. It was time to take these suckers down, and finish it off, Ian didn't have much patience for enemies who you didn't even have to think about it to fight. He shoved at the other one to push it back, then aimed and fired again.

Chrysanthemum had had enough.

She was a sweet kid, but had her limits. These shambling nasties were no real threat to her; being slow and uncoordinated, but their resilience to her hammering was no longer amusing. It was starting to feel more like an insult to herself, to the hammer, and to the god who had forged the hammer in the first place. And that just wouldn't do.

Her eyes lit up with a wild fire as she lifted the Shard of the Forge high.

"Remember the heat at the heart of Olympus," she said, addressing not her fellow godlings, nor her foes, but the hammer itself. "The Fire Imperishable that burns rock, metal, and time itself! You were there! Remember!"

She swung the hammer down against the ground, so hard that the earth around her rippled. She then yanked it out and swung it around overhead to strike at the earth on her opposite side, yelling again, "Remember!"

When Chrys pulled the hammer out of the crater it had dug this time, it was beginning to glow a dull red. She did it again, shaking the earth, sending a plume of dust on high and shouting, "REMEMBER!"

It was cherry red now, the color of a warming stovetop.

This time it was an explosion of dust AND smoke and sparks as she crashed it once more into the earth, with a sound like a cannon going off!

And as she drew forth the Shard of the Forge once more from the earth, her face was lit by its bright orange-white glow that was reflected in her eyes. Her hair, now completely unbound, writhed and twisted in that light, making it look as if her head itself was afire.

"Yeah," she said softly. "You remember."

Then she launched herself at the zombies who'd had the temerity to attack one born from the fires of the gods themselves, hammer head leaving a streak like a falling star as she whirled it around to strike!

Ian's close range shot once again glanced off hard bone and aside from a furrow of spit skin there was no visible damage to the undead. Chrys' attack brought her hammer down hard on the zombie and much like her initial attack she grievously wounded the creature. Despite their continued attacked and the apparent futility of their own actions the mindless zombie continued to press their attacks, grasping and hitting at the scions.

OOC: Narrating past the combat since the outcome is a sure thing at this point.

Her hammer blazing like the volcanic forge of her father Chrys' hammer struck again and again battering the zombies, crushing limbs, exploding rotten flesh, and grinding into dust what should have been dust. By her side the Messenger's child fired shot after shot, each aimed true on the creature's heads. Ian's bullets buffeted and cracked skulls, split putrid scalps, and spayed undead brain matter in geysers of gore. Striding through the outliers Hadicall, scion of justice and storm, delivered brawling attacks that laid waste to the zombies before he once again called upon his massive enchanted weapon. Betty rained the fully fury of the storm lord down upon the last of the zombies as it vainly tried to carry out its last order, but the fusillade of electrical attacks eventually dropped a charred and smoking skeleton, burned clean of its magically animated flesh, to the ground.

The zombies dispatched the scions turned to the mortal, Morgan, who was starting to rouse, his arms clutched to his bruised chest. "Th-thank you. Thank y'all fer savin' mah life."

Morgan grimaced as he got to his feet, "No nothin' broke, but Ah don' fancy tha bruises Ah'll have in tha morn'. Ah thankya muchly Ah do, but what abou' tha thing what done stole mah face? Ah can't think 'e had tha best a intentions, ifn ya know what I mean."

"No, wouldn't think so," Chrys agreed, tugging the brim of her hat forward and resting her hammer back over her shoulder again.

"Did he say anything to ya about where he was goin' or plannin'? Also, lets pick you some kinda code word, so if we meet you again, we can tellya apart from this other fella."

The gun spiraled about his finger several times before sliding gracefully back into it's holster. Like a bird taking to it's flight naturally, Hadicall quietly let the wind's embrace set him firmly back upon the earth near the Morgan character. His eyes regained their normal coloration, the bleached white faded like storm clouds in a heavy wind.

"Yeah, sorry bout' that," he said calmly, like all this was normal for him. "Would slapped that deader about sooner if I coulda, but I had my hands full. You'll be alright though by the looks of it. Chrys here has a good question, do you remember anything that might help us find him? The sooner the better, other might be in danger."

"C-code word? Ah'm not sure Ah undahstan'" the poor man was still quite visibly frightened from the zombies and recovering from his assault. He looked up at Hadicall, "Well jus' that he said he needed a body to fix his fancy gun. Oh, an' 'e said 'e had a train ta catch tomorra. Sorry ifn that don' help much, Ah was plumb frightened outta mah mind."

"It's alright, you've done just fine. That train bit is right helpful, sir. All Miz Chrys here means is that anytime you see us, we want you to say somethin' particular so that we know it's you, and not that fella' walkin' around with your face. Let's see now.. you like horses, sir? I'm a horse man myself, so let's just say that until we get this here copycat fella taken care of, if you see one of us, you jus' say the word 'Mustang' an' we'll know it's you, an' we won't go blastin' at you, okay?"

Ian's tone was friendly and relaxed, meant to calm the man down a bit and get him thinking clearly. He clapped a hand gently on the frightened man's shoulder as he spoke, and looked him directly in the eyes so that he could make sure the other man was comprehending what he was saying.

"Now, here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna get you outta here, an' get you someplace you won't accidentally run into this fella until we get him dealt with. You got a place like that, maybe a friend to stay with? Or shall we find somethin' fer ya?"

Link to comment

"Yeah, yeah I, Ah kin find a place. Mah brudder lives on a farm outside tha city. Ah'll jus' visit 'im for a piece." Morgan shook hands all around, though he seemed to want to go by way of something more for Chrys but held himself back. "Thankee y'all again. Ifn yah evah need mah help jus' lemme know." The four made their way to Morgan's brother's farm and then te three Scions made their way back to town.

Chrysanthemum is fairly bubbling with happiness all the way to the man's brother's house, and then back to town. She keeps scampering ahead, then waiting for the others to catch up, or getting lost for a few minutes looking up at the stars, or down at the sand and rocks, and seeing things only she can see.

As the crew saunters into town, she asks, "What kinda creature d'ya think'd do something like that to a man? Take on his face and leave him guarded by walkin' corpses? And why take his face at all? And why his face in particular? We ain't done with this, not by a long shot."

The scion then looks at Hadicall and Ian as if just realizing they're there. "I mean to say...I'm not done with this. Sorry if I'm puttin' words in your mouths. This is a small town, and y'all ain't from around here. There'd be no ill-feelins if you decided this weren't your problem. Lord knows I wish it weren't ours."
