Fox, something that I'm not sure of - What kind of translation device or whatever is being used? It's obvious that most people don't understand/speak Goa'uld so how is it being translated back and forth and would it be obvious to those we encounter that it is a translation?

If that's the case should we mark what text is in Goa'uld even if everyone gets a translation? It might be important sometimes to know what comes directly from the person and what comes through a machine. Especially given the situation in Thieves.

Rorx and Yseult, I don't mind you guys finding Hatchins that way, but it won't be that easy. He was not a member of the SG teams so he did not undergo any medical testing so they have no dna on file. They have his medical records, but that's all.

Wasn't aware of that Rorx, though it makes sense. He was just transferred into the Stargate recently so his DNA wouldn't be there yet, it would have to be requisitioned, which would be blocked by the IOA. There are other sources of DNA however...

Yeah, Gwyn will be searching the guy's old quarters when he gets back...

Alien Tech skills - when did these become available, as Gwyn has been studying this stuff since he arrived at the SGC? So far he has only been able to represent this by taking Specialisations to his normal Science, Engineering and Computer Skills of which he has several now.

It just became available and it just now occurred to me that I should post such. smile

These tech skills are beyond the normal Science/Engineering/Computer skills. I will also make as a pre-req that you must have at least 4 dots in all of the above skills and a specialization in the advanced skill before you can start taking the alien tech skills.

Advanced Skills

There are certain skills that I consider Advanced Skills. These require that you must have met a certain level in pre-requisite skills. I also limit how fast you can train in the advanced skills.

On the other hand the advanced skills come with benefits.

Example:

Specialist Physiology

1 dot - ability to give medical treatment to Specialists without a difficulty penalty.

2 dots - ???

3 dots - Ability to create an individualized treatment for Taint.

4 and 5 dots - ???

I will leave some mystery as to what they give you but that is an example to whet your appetites.

Obviously the Engineering/Computer/Science tech skills would give the ability to understand and use advanced technology and perhaps to even design and build new technologies.

Having said that, I do require that buying and advancing the skills be justified with IC role play. Gwyn's pursuit of Alien tech would easily justify his purchase of the first dot in Gou'ald or Ancient tech. Having not had access to any Asgard tech to learn about he wouldn't yet have justification to buy that. On the other hand he could start hanging out on the Prometheus and bugging Heimdall which would be justification.

Only one dot at a time can be bought in advanced skills and I will limit how soon another dot can be gained since these skills can be game altering, ie Cure's for Taint, production of Eufiber, Understanding how the Ascension device works, etc.

_____

Device:

On another topic. The background: Device is also available for purchase, but like advanced skills, they must be justified via IC acquisition.

Example:

Cam's Datapad: He took Ra's data terminal and has been upgrading it. It is now a 3 dot device. It can interface with any terrestrial computer and gives him a bonus to control or reprogram the target system. It can also interface with most Goa'uld devices, but he hasn't had enough IC interaction with bigger more sophisticated Gou'ald devices to justify it being able to provide any bonuses yet. It also functions as a very powerful regular computer in a nice compact size.

Guys, just a quick note. No guns are allowed in the base outside the armory except those being carried by on-duty guards. If you have personal weapons they have to be checked out from the armory before you can take them on a mission or to the gun range. You can't keep personal weapons in your quarters.

Yep, Dec was undergoing extensive evaluation.

Current state of your team... Col. Cameron Mitchell is temporarily leading SG21 while Damien is away dealing with Bureaucratic issues.

Gwyn and Livy are still team members but you also have a tag-along. A gou'ald named Eight.

Probably best if you start a fic thread set after Thieves regarding being released back to active duty. That way everyone can give you the lowdown of what's up IC'ly.

Atlantis stuff is still off the table at the moment. The Atlantis team has communicated once with SGC command via a brief burst transmission reporting their status, but it is not common knowledge even among the teams. All that the SGC personnel know including you guys is that they arrived and checked in, but no details have yet been released pending contact via Prometheus. The second attempt to reach Atlantis will via ship will begin shortly, in the next week of IC time. You guys will be off on your next missions at that point.
