IC: Starfinder Episode 02 - INTERMEZZO

Recommended Posts

Gorunta's feral grin became wider as he caught one of the flailing tentacles and brutally yanked it to the side. The monster ball's wail was premature. It really had to scream when the vesk thrust his sword into its body up to  the hilt, and began to yank the blade downward, ripping it open.

Spinning and flipping the little Ysoki made a once in a lifetime shot, her beam sizzling right into the monsters mouth and burning through the and out the back. The thing shuddered and it's tentacles drooped and it stilled in sudden death.

Not so the monster Gurunta was gutting. It's tentacles thrashes and it wailed as grayish green blood sprayed as the Vesk sawed the thing virtually in half. It too was dead.

The party slowly came out from cover and even the eye-bot was peering around the counter where Etch had it cornered.

Spoiler

Both creatures are dead, the area is a wreck. the eye-bot has been fixed by Jexxa's magic. rp a bit before i move it forward

The Eye-bot wheezed and beeped the in a scratchy with static voice spoke in common "Danger, Danger, Danger Find Shelter Immediately!"

Down the corridor the space-balls had come, could be heard a blood chilling wail and something that sounded like loud Thwumps! followed by wet splats and the unmistakable sounds of more space-balls rolling in their direction!

Spoiler

You have time to either flee back the way you came to the waiting area, or you can make a hasty barricade and prepare for more battle. you could also speak to the eye-bot

"Geez - " Sunshine crouched down behind something, preparing to run or for ambush. "Hey, iPod, can you tell them we're not here to hurt anything?" She looked at the dead creature she'd plugged through the brain, and amended, "Anything that doesn't try and hurt us first?"

"We can take cover, or we can run," Evana said plainly to everyone, one eye on the corridor as she slid a fresh mag into her gun.  "Either way, people, let's go, stop standing around and wake the hell up."

She scanned the area, looking for probable escape routes.

"This is just bloody wonderful," she fumed.  She glared at Sunshine.  "For the record, this is your fault.  No more reading books or eating while flying the ship."

Echo checked the charge on her pistol and scowled as she swapped in her spare cell.

"Yeah, unless you can open the hangar back up, I think getting outta here is the way to go."

She gestured at the eyebot. "Get us somewhere we're not getting eaten by living meatballs...the rest can wait!"

The eyebot looked at echo then shaking it's repaired leg dashed off to a section of the wall. Back down the corridor the sounds of multiple space-balls grew louder, Yseult made arcane gestures and a small purple eye appeared and zoomed off down the corridor. "We should hurry they are close and there are... a lot of them." She said.

Meanwhile the eyebot had extended several small appendages into some hidden sockets and with a screech as parts that hadn't operated in years began to move a small hatch rotated open revealing a darkened small service tunnel.

Spoiler

just need to know if y'all go in or if you stand your ground or if you fall back to the waiting room. y'all can discuss it and let me know in chat or make a spoiler post or whatever

"S'cusemethankyou," Evana said hastily as she weaseled way around the service bot.  Her sidearm remained in her hand while she clicked on the a flashlight with her thumb and held it at eye level illuminating the darkened corridor beyond.  "Oh, someone is going to pay dearly for my dry cleaning..." the icy haired diva mumbled as she built up the nerve to to follow the corridor.  At this point anything was batter than... whatever those things were.

With a deep breath, that was meant to bolster confidence but failed on all levels, she pressed on.

Spoiler

The waiting room is just a dead end death sentence.  Standing her ground is a dead end death sentence.  The corridor is a linear death sentence.

Corridor it is.

Jexa looked down the dark service tunnel and gestured with a hand, apparently summoning small bits of tech from the darkness as a thin wisp of a metallic cloud traced a line through the air from here sleeve to the bit and surrounded them, which was then surrounded by wisps of nanites as they worked on the tech, modifying and adapting them. S small spark arced from her fingertip to one of the bits and then then bounced between the rest, causing each one to reveal their purpose as they illuminated with the intensity of small flashlights hovering in the air. She then flung her hand out in an almost dismissive gesture, sending the lights zooming together down the service tunnel ahead of Evana and the others.

"That should help." she said, more to herself than anybody else as she watched the lights illuminate their way.

Jexa turned to the eyebot and smiled.

"Thanks little guy. I hope the leg is feeling better." she said as she slipped into the proffered escaped route.

Spoiler

Casting Dancing Lights. The four lights are each the equivalent of small flashlights and can moved 150'/round, but must stay within 10' of each other.

Echo wasted no time getting over to the service hatch, glancing back over her shoulder the whole way.

"If they're installing these things on our ship, Imma blow up the whole place. Just...you know...FYI."

Then she crawled in after Evana. Hard to say if it was 'safe' or not, but it was at least nominally away from the raging mouth-monsters, so that made it safe 'enough.'

The intrepid crew of the Solanya wound their way through the labyrinthine service corridors with an occasional beep or whistle from the eye-bot when directing them at cross corridors and intersections. After what seemed like hours but was in actuality only minutes they can to another large service hatch.

The eye-bot scuttled forward and extended it's appendages again and with more clicks and whirs the hatch irises open revealing a huge chamber nearly a kilometer across. it hummed with energy and pulsed with electric life. Our Heroes found themselves staring at the still beating heart of the station. They had found the Engine room.

And there sitting right on top of the main engine was the largest space-ball yet!

Spoiler

Boss fight! you have surprise. KAC 14 EAC 18

"That thing is as big as our damned ship!" Jordayn gulped, stretching down that he could stand upright and peering into the massive chamber from the middle of the pack. "Anyone able to make a guess if bringing down the momma testicle will bring down all the baby testicles?"

The half-elf priest grimaced - the thing was truly intimidating and disgusting and he didn't think it was 'natural' to the station, as it were, but rather was some manner of parasite. That would do, especially if it/they started infesting/infecting their ship while it was under automated control. "I propose we find out, since I don't fancy leaving it behind, not after how helpful this little eye-bot has been, or what its... offspring might do to us or the ship."

He glanced at his Arc Pistol, then holstered it for the moment. It wouldn't be the most effective against this creature. Instead, he murmured another prayer, and from his hand flew a ball of active, darting yellow-orange light to harass and harry the Brobdingnagian Space Testicle.

Spoiler

Standard Action: Cast Wisp Ally, providing Harrying Fire against the GSB (Great Space Ball) - next character to target GSB gains a +2 circumstance Bonus to hit.
Move Action: Taking cover by the edge of the iris access hatch.

Sunshine, to her credit, didn't hesitate for long - she pulled out her laser pistol, flipping it in the air, then leaping up to catch it and firing off a carefully placed shot.

Spoiler

Initiative: 1D20+6 = [18]+6 = 24

Sunshine is attempting a trick attack with her laser pistol - hopefully it's got the range. Not adding the Wisp Ally bonus as I'm not 100% sure if I'm going before or after Jordayn.

Acrobatics check for Trick Attack (vs DC20 + CR): 1D20+15 = [13]+15 = 28

If that's a success, the target is flat-footed against the attack.

Laser Pistol Attack, Damage and Trick Attack damage.: 1D20+7 = [1]+7 = 8
2D4+2+4 = [3, 2]+2+4 = 11
3D8 = [7, 4, 5] = 16

Just hitting all the 1s this adventure, it seems...

Echo blinked on seeing the massive creature there, and solemnly got out her bigger gun, the laser rifle slung over her back.

"Hey, eyebot. If you can open up the hangar and let my buddy in there join us, I'd be MUCH OBLIGED!"

She charged up the weapon with her rig, and took aim, letting a line of superheated air streak between her weapon and the gooball!

Initiative: 1D20+4 = [5]+4 = 9

Shooty: 1D20+7 = [19]+7 = 26
3D6 = [1, 1, 3] = 5

Welp, a hit. For crap damage, lol. Though I think you add your Dex to that now? So +4.

"What kind of blue, bloody, pus-spewing hell that that thing come from?" Jexa exclaimed.

Jexa reached over toward Echo's rifle, never taking her eyes off of the gigantic creature, with glowing arcane symbols looking more like circuits appearing around her hand and a small cloud of nanites flowing from her sleeve, swarming around and into the weapon, each one attaching itself to the capacitor, preparing to add their own power to that drawn from the cell for the next shot, only to fall away and crumble into a fine, metallic dust when eventually discharged.

"Light it up." she encouraged Echo.

Spoiler

Jexa is casting Supercharge Weapon on Echo's rifle. +4d6 damage to her next rifle shot.

Sunshine wasted no time, taking advantage of the eyebot's flailing tentacles to distract the monster, and pop out from behind the creature with a well-place laser shot, hitting the beast in a sensitive spot and throwing off its aim.

Jordayn's pistol seemed rather inadequate for the task at hand. On the other hand, the testicular monstrosity seemed to possess at least some manner of intelligence, and could feel pain. And if it could feel pain, it could feel pleasure. He prayed to Arshea, the Spirit of Abandon, divining the correct portion of what passed for the brain in the creature. Then he stomped on it with a lance of intense orgiastic pleasure, making its tentacles writhe and twist with the overwhelming sensations.

Spoiler

Action: Casting Mind Thrust as a 2nd level spell (4d10 damage). Deals 22 Damage, Will Save DC 18 for half damage.

The huge Space-ball cringed and flailed under the barrage of blast and laserbolts then Jordayn erotic Mind thrust penetrated with such force the creature howled a screaming high pitched wail, whether of pain or pleasure non could know.

The sound pierced the ear drums of the galactic heroes and shook the walls. Glass dials shattered, Steam and gasses both hot and cold escaped from suddenly loosened valves and joints. Astonishingly the whole station seemed to shudder.

Alarms joined the cacophony of sound and flashing and blinking red blue and yellow lights winked on all over the place signaling emergencies and warning of impending doom.

The Space-ball itself  shook and shuddered it once flailing tentacles now spread out and rigid.

Gurunta ripped his blade from the beast and swung back preparing to hack again when an previously unseen orifice opened and a thick viscous fluid sprayed out flooding the immediate area he was standing in and drenching him in the warm sticky mess.

Spoiler

The creature is...stunned and hurt but it's wail is painfull everyone needs to make a Fort save dc 15, failure takes 16 damage success halves the damage. if you have a helmet on or some other auditory shield you get +2 to the save and failure indicates half damage success quarter damage. it is the next turn same order please

(On Echo's turn this round...just posting it now to make sure I don't miss it)

Echo took aim carefully, sighting down the barrel of her laser rifle. Jexa's magic was playing merry havoc with a lot of the projected HUD elements, but when she pulled the firing catch the results were more than worth it. The laser beam was so hot that it created a little thunderclap as it explosively ionized and superheated the air that it passed through. The time she took paid off as well, as the shot burned directly through the creature's center of mass, making a baseball-sized hole! If it wasn't some weird gelatin-thing, it'd be a mortal shot...but a creature like this might not have vital areas to burn out. It'd just be a question of doing enough damage over enough of it.

On the other hand...it's scream ripped through her like a buzzsaw, and for a moment she could only hunch over, trying to cover her head...but it was hitting the resonant frequency of her composite and alloy bones themselves...it was impossible to escape that sound!

(26 to hit, 24 laser damage; took 16 damage)

Corona laser attack (jazzed by Jexa): 1d20+7 26 6d6+4 24

Fortitude save: 1d20+6 12

Meanwhile...

knock knock knock....scriiiiiiiiiiiiitch...knock knock knock...

From the hangar door came a repeating noise. Three clunks, as metal banging against metal, followed by a long screeching noise like something being dragged down a blackboard.

Suddenly, as if the strange starbase had finally had enough, the hangar door slid open. Revealed behind it was Echo's drone, using its tool arms to halfheartedly batter and claw at the hangar door. For a second it seemed nonplussed that its tactic had seemed to work...then it extended little wheels from the base of each of its four feet and with a whirring sound sped off down the corridor to help aid in the fight!

"And once again, we're shooting stuff..." she mumbled under her breath.  Her all white outfit was now smeared with grease and dust.  Her hair was looking a fright, and with a roll of her eyes her pistol appeared in her hand and she squeezed off a round.  "...dibs on the shower if we ever get back.  And someone else please take over the piloting... I don't these little field trips to be a common occurrence."

Jexa winced and shot her hands up to cover her ears at the piercing sound of the creature's wail. She flinched as some of the gauges cracked and their faceplates shattered, pelting her with twinkling bits of glass.

"Sonofabitch!" she snarled as she shook her head, seemingly trying to shake the sound out of it somehow.

"Just shut up and die already!" she yelled back at it, pulling one hand from her head (though the other remained shielding one ear) and in a flash her arc pistol appeared in her hand. She squeezed a shot off at the creature without really even looking at it, her face still wincing from the piercing wail that had assaulted her eardrums. The ball of magically fortified lightning almost missed the creature, but it did strike true, sending electricity and magic arcing across its putrescent body from the sizzling wound.

Sunshine Fortitude save (DC 15): 1D20+2 = [3]+2 = 5

That's a failure, so Sunshine takes 16 damage. Currently at 9 Stam, 32 HP.

"HhhGHhh - " Sunshine winced as the plaintive wail of the monster run in her oversized ears. She shook it off, heard Evana's words, and grimaced.

"So I'm fired. All right. Okay then. Well, you can drop me off at Starholme after we fill this thing full of holes - " She ducked left into a slide, then flipped backwards and to the right, distracting the beast at a crucial moment and hitting a sensitive spot.

From Gorunta's perspective, did the wailing rip into his ears and keep him in place for the... fluid to gush into his face, or did the fluid freeze him in his tracks and keep him from covering his ears? In this case, it was a blur and so he wasn't sure. "Jordayn... if you tell me what you did, I'll probably kill you." He punctuated this with another deep cut into the space testicle's flesh.

"Then I'm not going to tell you!" Jordayn shouted back through gritted teeth, wincing at the penetrating, high-pitched sound. In retrospect, that particular mystic prayer in this particular situation may not have been a good idea, effective though it had been. The brutish Vesk would probably kill him if he tried it again and he wasn't done with this life yet. "Sorry! Results were... slightly unexpected."

Through watering eyes, the half-elf glanced around at the crew of the Solenya, finding them hale enough. The creature was beginning to take a toll, but none of his companions were seriously wounded enough to require his other arts and skills as a doctor. Yet. His other prayers being completely none effective, he maintained his incandescent wisp of light to harass the writhing testicle and fire another shot with his trusty arc pistol.

The bolt of electricity struck true, making the creature quiver and spasm yet more.

Free free at last! Goomba ran a electronic search locator algorithm to lock down his masters whereabouts and started that way at full speed as he rounded the corner his legs froze and he skidded to a stop. Directly ahead of him were seven tentacled space-balls each about three feet across they too had been startled by seeing the drone and they had abruptly stopped.

The seven started down at the one. Then with a high pitched electronic squeal which sounded suspiciously like YEEHAW!!!!! Goomba dropped low and raced forward a door at his front swinging open and down revealing the seven barreled Gatling gun which began spewing lead with a roar.

Time for some fun!

Beams and bullets arcs of electric death flew from the weapons of our galactic heroes and pierced, zapped, pummeled and blasted the ginormous Space-ball and last as Gorunta charged forward swinging his great blade over head to plunge into the creature and as he ripped the sword down sliced through the beast leaving a huge open cut from which purple and yellow fluids sprayed.

The space-ball writhed and pulsed shimmed and shook then with one last wail... deflated as a rush of air vented from the cut.

For several moments the hero's stood waiting ready in the distance they could hear the sound of the military grade chain gun slinging round after round at whatever it was the drone encountered the buzzing gunfire grew closer and closer and then stopped. A door at the far end of the engineering section slid ope and there was the drone smoke curling from the red-hot barrels. Behind the drone the party could see dozens of space-ball bodies littering the shot to hell hallway.

At that very moment a deep toned bell rang “Attention Patron 00195726431009178634121, your vessel is ready in the maintenance zone. Thank you for your business.”

Sunshine pulls up a small plastic card she had received when the bay door had closed behind them she read the number lips moving as she mumbled. “That's us.”

Spoiler

Thus concludes this segment of the adventures of our heroes... exp and treasure will be rewarded in a separate post Coming soon Episode 3
