IC: STARFINDER: HEROES FOR HIRE - EPISODE ONE "YOU MEET IN A TAVERN..."

STARFINDER GM

Recommended Posts

All of the minions were working so well together and that made Evana so proud.

With a wry smirk she stepped forward, one foot clacking softly in front of the other as her hips swayed to a beat playing through her comm.  She glared past all the slaves and mummy-cats pouring down upon them and offered up the Evil Cat Priest a sultry 'air kiss'.  "Aww, quit being such a pussy," she taunted him.  "You should have quit while you were ahead... but no, and no I brought the whole damn family."

A holo-visor spread from one ear to her other and she darted forward, sliding low after a few steps into a sweep that took one of the slaves off his feet.  She was already standing and gaining momentum forward when she pulled the trigger and sent the everything in the slave's mind all over the floor.  Gun in one hand, blade in the other she moved like vengeful serpent on a catwalk, slithering between attacks and lunges and grapples with the fluid ease of a Marid stripper.  With each failed attempt to strike at her, her opposition was met with blade or bullet to the vitals.

Her gun warned her she was out of ammo.  A few leapt from the woodwork, off of cages, through the creeping shadows.  You name it, there seemed no end to them.  The first to throw his life away lunged a her only to be met with a spiraling roundhouse where the heel of her boot crushed his cheek before he'd realized she begun her spin.  He fell to the ground and hedn't quite recovered when her hell smashed down upon his throat, in a violent axe kick.  She didn't seem like powerful woman, and she wasn't, but she'd trained for half a decade with the finest instructors her fortune could buy to make her into an instrument of war and vengeance.  She relished this opportunity to finally get some of it out of her system.

A second, in a screaming fit of zeal tore at her in a mad flailing. Her foot came up and she kicked him squarely in the chest, stopping him cold and sending him directly onto his back.  She continued to walk forward, this was her runway, after all.  Another howled in madness but she didn't break stride, she jabbed low like she was cupping his crotch, smirked and lifted.  The slaves eyes bulged wide when he realized she had no free hand to cup and it was instead fourteen inches of sharpened carbon-steel.  Once off his feet he fell backward and simply grabbed himself, soon he'd bleed out.  A large slave stomped through the yard, but she didn't seem too flustered.  With practiced grace and precision she threw her blade and it spiraled end over end until it dug deep into the large ones chest.  He dropped to his knees gurgling as his lung filled with blood as all his muscle failed him.  With her newly freed hand she calmly slid another magazine into her pistol when a wailing scream from behind her caught her attention.  The slave she'd kicked in the chest moments ago was back on his feet and not happy.  He stood and wailed again... then stopped suddenly when her entire gun found purchase on the slaves forehead, knocking him out cold.

"Oh, shut up already," she huffed with a roll of the eyes.  Now that she was weaponless they advanced with fervor and a lightning barage of kicks swpet through the battlefield.  Knees to the face, sweeps to the floor and variety of other spectacular feats of acrobatic martial arts took the slaves and mummy-cats by surprise as the more they swarmed her, the harder she fought.  The harder she fought the wider her smirk grew.  It was absolute anarchy around her and she thrived on it.  Up and out of harm's way she flew up and out from the chaos of combat.  She landed crouched on one knee, he head bowed low and her arms out wide.  Her blade, still in the chest of the large slave slowly broke down into digital components.  Her pistol, lying next to the slave now unconscious after having slammed him square between the eyes also broke down into its digital components.

Both of them reconstructed themselves in her respective hands as she looked up, smiling.  "Had your chance.  Ready for round two?"

With a spin she spiraled back onto her feet, shooting and slicing as she waded back into the fray.

The shades of broken wills and broken lives assailed them under the command of an undead Felinoid priest. And the crew of the Solenya engaged them in glorious and unrestrained ardor, with blade and first, firearms and grenades. Jordayn glided up to support his companions, he voice raising up in a rich paean to his goddess.

From his hand flew animated spheres of divine light, minor allies from the heavens,  that danced among the mind-bound slaves and undead felinoids, harrying them and distracting them with fey delight. Slaves and undead swatted at the exuberant nuisances, leaving them open for cleaving blades and penetrating lasers and beams of electricity.

Jordayn added his own to them with his compact static arc pistol. Actinic light flowed over his metallic red bodysuit as the half-elf aimed at the slaves unhesitating empathy. Entwined beams of electricity struck them squarely, making them convulse then collapse, synapses overloading into unconsciousness. Their lives were on the line, the priest didn't fault his companions unrestrained offense, even as he adhered to his own personal code as he could.

He valued the lives of his companions no less. Though they struck through the horde with furious efficiency, numbers alone to take a toll. Clubbing fists bruised flesh and decrepit claws began to draw lines of blood. In the midst of the chaos, the Arshaean Mystic cast his gaze upon his companions, and they could feel it fall on them like a benediction.

Their wounds closed before their eyes, the growing exhaustion leaving their limbs as the Priest invited it all into himself. He felt all their hurts and their building strain. And he felt their joy in carnage, the righteous affront, and the terrified thrill of their lives on the line.  His voice rose even higher and more resonate as he sought the favour of his goddess, and Arshea granted it, restoring his vitality so he could restore that of the Solenya's crew in turn.

The power of his goddess caressing him, Jordayn's boomed through the great cavern. "Poor Kitty! Bastet has no right to lives stolen, only those offered freely. Alas, even gods can learn lessons.... Some of them, at least."

"So let's do this." Jexa said, swinging both arms back to let her trenchcoat slide off off and fall to the ground, revealing the refractor suit she wore underneath. It was skintight and metallic black. The shine accentuated each of her curves as she moved. Unlike Evana, her suit was zipped all the way up, but it still did little for modesty, considering thee tightness. In stark contrast to the sleek, skintight suit were her clunky boots, each with a broad high heel and several small ports located around them. Similar to her boots, on each hand she wore battlegloves, large armored gauntlets that extended all the way to her elbows. Around her hips she wore several belts with holsters, sheaths and other compartments for storage.

As the flood of slaves and mummies came at them, Jexa started running right at them full tilt, aiming for one of the larger slaves. With arms open he lunged for her and Jexa's jump jets kicked in, launching her into a flip over him, with her freehand resting on the top of his head. She took a shot at another slave while inverted. The tiny ball of magically fortified lightning struck the slave, causing him to convulse as the electricity coursed through his body and arced to another slave, causing the pair to collapse atop each other in a twitching heap as she landed on her feet behind the large slave. He spun around to face her and found the her arc pistol in his face, the smell of ozone tickling his nose at a tiny spark jumped between the prongs at the tip of the pistol. He was a little too close to risk using her acr pistol, but he did not seem to be aware of that yet. In one motion she lowered her pistol and threw an uppercut with her left. A metal plate with several broad, flat studs lips out from the back of the hand on her battle glove to cover her knuckles as magic washed over her first. At the same time her jump jets engaged, adding force to the blow. She caught him on the chin, with an audible sound of bone snapping as his head whipped back while the follow through of the booster-assisted uppercut lifted her a few feet in the air.

"Dumbass." she snerked at the slave as he fell backwards before her. The other slaves backed away for a moment as she stood there, caught in her reverie, but swiftly found their courage and surged forward once again, piling on the lashunta. The mass of bodies slowed after a moment and finally stood up slowly, all of the slaves looking confused with Jexa nowhere in sight.

"I guess she is just too smart, beautiful and badass for us. We should all just run away now, while we can, before she kicks more of our asses." one of the slaves said, which caused him to get more confused looks from the others. "Well, I gave you a chance." the slave said with a shrug as the holographic disguise dropped, leaving Jexa standing in place of the slave. She motioned and small bits of machines, both modern and some ancient, ripped from the ground, began to coalesce into dozens of fist sized, roughly spherical hoverbots, each with a large eye. The swarm of microtbots began to emit laser blasts from their eyes, forming a cloud of slaves, laser blasts and microbots. When a slave would get lucky and hit one of the bots, another would form from bits of the destroyed one and new parts gathered in the area. With the bots on her side harassing and harrying the slaves, Jexa ran into the mob and met them with a series of magic imbued kicks and flips, both assisted by her jump jets, intermingled with shots from her arch pistol, and parries with her battleglove covered forearm. What the slender lashunta lacked in raw strength she more than made up for with speed, quick thinking, and her jump jet assisted and magic bolstered fighting style.

It was quickly become clear that the slaves, though numerous, were not nearly as big a threat as the mummies. And though Jexa certainly had no issue with killing slaves, she could see how Jordayn and Sunshine were clearly trying not to. She arced through the air on her jump jets, over another mobs of slaves and landed right in front of a feline mummy, who reacted much faster than Jexa was expecting, being a mummy and all, and caught her with a claw across her chest, sending her falling onto her back.

"Hey! No copping feels!" she admonished the mummy as she windmilled her legs and her jump jets engaged, spinning and snapping her back to her feet. The mummy lunged at her again, only this time Jexa was ready and threw a punch of her own. A loud gunshot rang out as her punch was suddenly accelerated by several small vents on the back of the battle glove, and smashed right through the mummy's head. With a forward kick she knocked the mummy down and brought her fist up as a small chamber on the back of her battle glove opened and ejected the large, spent shell. Jexa looked at another mummy and pursed her lips, blowing away a wisp of smoke from her fist with a small smile.

Then she saw it... a large water tank to maintain the dogs was set up near the ruins of a two story building,. Instantly she formed a plan, noting that there was a spout on the bottom, but even wide open it would take too long to empty. With a single burst of her jump jets Jexa landed beside the tank and shimmied up between it at the ancient wall. With her boots on the wall and her back against the tank she pushed, hoping the crumbling wall could take the stress, and began rocking the tank more and more with each push until finally she could feel it anted to tip. Sending another mental command her jump jets engaged as she pushed with all the might she could muster, causing the tank to topple over, sending a small wave of water rushing toward a large group of feline zombies that was rushing toward her. They roared as the water washed over their feet and lower legs, soaking into the bandages as Jexa dropped to the ground in a crouch.

"Don't flatter yourselves. You're not the first pussies I've gotten wet." she said as she touched her battleglove and summoned an arcane burst of electricity through it, sending it down the water and wet ground. The small horde of feline mummies convulsed, some of their bandages bursting into flames as the electricity danced over them. Then in an instants they fall silent, just a piled of singled and twitching corpses having met their final death.

Jexa rose and surveyed the carnage that she and the others had wrought upon the slaves and mummies and gave an approving nod, before turning her attention to the pyramid.

"I call the drow!" she called out. "She'll look awesome in my bed." she added with a grin and a wink toward Jordayn.

Ninura seeming flew from one point of the battle filed to the next her ars and feet crushing heads and breaking bones her twine stingers stabbing. The Heroes fought hard and the horde fell before them slowly they closed in on the foot of the pyramid.

Up near the top where the ancient high priest was casting his spell spared a moment to curse and scream at Clevus and the rest of the thugs. “I said KILL THEM!!!' dust flew from it's mouth in place of spittle.

Clevus was in somewhat of a state of awe at what Evana and her friends were doing, he had never seen anything like it and he had been doing this a long time. Still it was his job and do it he must.

With quick gestures left and right the goblins and Halforcs split off and moved down the side of the pyramid picking their target. While Clevus drew his laser and activated his own targeting systems.

“It's not to late to be a hero Clevus.” The scantily clad drow at his feet said softly, “Let me loose and remove this collar and we can defeat him. You know this is wrong what he is doing.”

Clevus looks at the drow then at the undead cat at the pinnacle of the pyramid. With a scowl he kicks the woman in the face. “A job is a job.” he mutters then opens fire.

At the foot of the pyramid the Crew of the Solanya fight and suddenly all around them bolts of plasma start to rain.

Jexa winced at Clevus' kick to the drow woman's face. She was not entirely sure who she was, other than some hot, scantly clad, drow slavegirl, but the kick to the face certainly implied that she was not exactly a willing participant. "Come on, man. Not in the face." Jexa sighed as the spent clip ejected from her arc pistol with a sizzling hiss and she slapped in a fresh clip as she spotted one of the goblin leveling his weapon at her, but she was too late. A line of ionized plasma shot out from his weapon, narrowly pissing Jexa and burned a hole in two mummies climbing after them, who promptly collapsed and tumbled down the pyramid. Jexa's eyes went wide and her antenna shot up. "Shit! Plasma guns!" she exclaimed. The goblin let out a smug laugh, feeling he had the edge in armament even as high-pitched hum of the recharging capacitor reached the lashunta's ears.

"Yeah, they burn through stuff..." Jexa responded as her jump jets engaged, "but they shoot slow." she reminded him as she rocketed up the side of the pyramid with a single, sizable leap, leveling her arc pistol at the goblin. Frantically he pulled the trigger again, which was only met with an error beep from the weapon as it was still recharging. "So suck it, you little, green shit." she taunted and squeezed off two shots, sending dual, tiny balls of lightning at the goblin. They impacted and engulfed him arcing electricity, causing him to convulse and finally keel over in a faintly smoke heap as Jexa's boots landed on the pyramid once more.

Gorunta grabbed a mummy and used its struggling corpse as a shield, undead flesh taking the burning brunt of plasma fire. Now the difficulty question, should he close the distance or turn to his laser rifle and fire back? A quick look around and he decided to begin sprinting forward up the incline of the pyramid, deciding to trust in the so far reasonable abilities of his associates to provide the necessary covering fire.

Spoiler

Double move forward, reducing the distance to 50 feet.

Jordayn gave Jexa a coy look as she made her claim on the drow woman, a look that darkened when the black-furred felinoid kicked her in the face. Less it was harming you, harming or destroying beauty was a transgression against Arshea. And it was just plain cruel and thoughtless to Jordayn. The priest began moving up the pyramid, trying to keep to cover on the uneven surface while trying to position himself to stay in range to support his companions with his prayers.

Crouching low, arc pistol resting on his thigh, Jordayn intoned a prayer as he gestured ahead with his free hand. A ball of swirling vermillion light coalesced ahead of him and at his direction, darted ahead with joyful glee to bob and weave around Clevus's head and shoulders in a distracting display.

Spoiler

Move Action: Move forward at an oblique angle and into cover, if there is any.

Standard Action: Casting Wisp Ally and sending it to Clevus, providing Harrying Fire (Next attack on Clevus gains a +2 Circumstance Bonus to Hit.)

"You know, I actually felt bad about shooting you in the leg in order to escape? So yeah, I don't any more." Sunshine ducked through a mummified cat's legs, and in mid-slide, sighted with her pistol on Clevus, taking advantage of Jordayn's illuminated ally to gain a better bead on him.

Spoiler

Firstly, Sunshine's Acrobatics check versus a DC of 20 + Clevus' CR.

Sunshine Acrobatics check: 1D20+14 = [9]+14 = 23

Then, Sunshine's attack roll proper: Sunshine pistol attack roll: 1D20+3+4+2 = [5]+3+4+2 = 14

That might hit, if he's flat-footed. If it does, Sunshine laser pistol damage (fire): 2D4+4 = [1, 2]+4 = 7
and Trick attack bonus damage.: 1D8 = [5] = 5

Evana's holo visor had already locked onto Clevus, the shimmering violet light had a series of readouts, angles, and firing solutions.  The buxom beauty slowly approached him, her gun trained on him while her short sword was at the ready in a downward angle common among special forces CQC specialists.

"Clevus, dear, I'm sorry but there is no scenario where you walk out of this alive," she called out to him.  "You're a business man, I get it, I do.  A large part of being a successful one, besides being alive to spend the profits, is knowing when to walk away.  You're between a rock and a hard place, honey, I know.  Let the girl go, leave or help us out, I don't care, but stand down or we will kill you."

The reticle in her visor followed the movements of her hand, if Clevus tried anything, she'd have a bullet in him before he knew what hit him.  "Face it, darling, when all this plays out, it all ends with you dead and that pretty little thing in my bed by night's end.  C'mon, Clevus... survive this and you have the opportunity to be your own boss, not licking the fetid boots of some zombie felinoid with a hard on for dog sacrifices.  This the sorta man you wanna be?  The sell-out who dies ignobly beating up a defensless girl?  Or did Clevus and his boys help a ship full of nobody's save his planet and it's people from certain doom?"

She kept her gun trained on him, but waited for his decision.

Spoiler

Diplomacy Check: Roll(1d20)+15: 17,+15 Total:32

Evana is appealing to Clevus's survival sensibilities.  No one wants to die an ignoble death, and the way he's going that's exactly how this is going to pan out for him.

As if to put a grim little period at the end of Evana's threat, there was a hum that rapidly rose in pitch, and then another blindingly bright arc of lightning that buzzed through the air as Echo overcharged a blast of power towards one of the plasma-gun wielding goons. The goon sailed backwards, jerking and spasming, finally to collapse in a pile of burned flesh and melted armor.

The first volley of plasma bolts land all around the heroes who respond quickly while Sunshine, Jexa and Echo send their own fire up at the thugs burn two of them down, Gorunta charges up the side of the Pyramid. One of the Halforc takes a bead on him and a bolt of searing plasma sizzles right at the hulking Vesk. But the gods are smiling on Gorunta the bolt strikes and bounces off the massive vesk armor!

Unfortunately luck doesn't stretch to all the heroes in our little group. One of the bolts lands at Sunshine's feet splashing her with plasma, and while Echo takes out one goblin with an amazing shot that goblins buddy returns the favor as a streaking plasma bolt hits the android in the upper right chest blasting her in a spin throwing her to the ground smouldering as burning plasma fire engulfs her.

Clevus hears Evana's words as Sunshine's laser beam whizzes by his head and glances back up the pyramid at the undead priest still casting it's spell. "Fine have it your way Evana," He turns back and tosses her the remote control for the drow's collar, "she's all yours." Then he suddenly glows from a bright golden Antigravity field and zooms off the pyramid heading back toward the elevator.

Spoiler

Thats round one there are 5 thugs left. they rolled good and scored 3 hits one a critical on Echo. Echo takes 16 points of damage from the crit and is now burning. She will take an additional 3 points of burning damage before her next action if no one does anything to put her out. at the end of the next round she can make a reflex save DC13 to put the fire out herself. Dousing her with water will put the fire out too. Gorunta would have been hit if he wasnt wearing a tank so he takes no damage. Sunshine takes 3 pts of damage  from the hit she took.

Clevus is flying away his EAC and KAC are both 20 while he is flying. any one can shoot at him on their turn next round but if he isnt brought down he will get away. Evana you can either take your normal action or you can catch the Slave control.

Jexa began acending the pyramid with small leaps, each one assisted by her jump jets, making them farther than would normally be possible at that angle of ascent. She heard the verbal exchange between Evana and Clevus and shrugged at his departure. At least it meant one less combatant for the time being, though she did not put it past him to circle back and flank them, or gather reinforcements.

The remote Clevus tossed spun end after end through the air toward Evana and then was suddenly struck by a small ball of lightning, which overloaded the device and caused it to explode in a cloud of sparks and small, sparkling metallic bits that drifted down toward the envoy.

"I called dibs." Jexa reminded Evana as she was leaping backward up the pyramid, propelled by her jump jets. She leveled her gun at the human and squeezed off another shot, sending the ball or magically fortified electricity whizzing past Evana to hit a mummy that had been steadily climbing up the pyramid behind them, causing it to twitch and fall back, tumbling down the pyramid as electricity arced over it's mummified body. With practiced grace, Jexa then spun back around and continued up toward the ancient, feline priest.

< The nerve of her, disregarding dibs. Some people, I tell ya... > she thought to Jordayn, half jokingly.

Gorunta's grin was cold, and the half-orc had long enough to realize that was the last shot of his life. The vesk began barreling up the last distance, before making a powerful leap. The half-orc tried to adjust his aim desperately, but the vesk came down with a thunderous impact. The sword came down and opened up the thug from neck to belly.

Spoiler

A Charge as a full action will cover the remaining distance and let him attack...

<And what if she has called dibs on one of us, Jex? It should be her choice, no?> The priest teased back. Destroying the control module was a touch impulsive in Jordayn's mind, if right in Jexa's character.

Jordayn dashed from cover towards the burning android, giving Evana a quick nod and a wink in passing for dealing the felinoid mercenary so efficiently. "Well done with your gifted tongue."

The half-elf slide to his knees next to Echo, pressing a button on an etched, crystalline plate strapped to his arm. A small hole in the very air bloomed open and Jordayn reached in without even pausing to glance at the readout for the Nullspace Chamber. An instant later, his arm emerged holding a red canister with a flexible hose ending in an adjustable nozzle.

"You're hotstuff, Echo, but maybe a little too hot, hmm?" Jordayn bantered as he depressed a button, spraying a white mist over the android, which ate up the plasma fires eating at her tempweave armor. "Keep giving them hell, we're bringing them now fast, but I we're all going to be needed for the cat with the temerity to not stay dead."

Spoiler

Move Action: Move to Echo's side.

Standard Action: Use Fire Extinguisher (can't believe I both bought one and actually ended with an opportunity to use it, but there we go! :) ) , to douse the flames on Echo. [19/20 charges]

INTERLUDE

The battle raged on below as Mertwaa, the High Priest of Baast finish the spell all that needed to be done now was to initiate the sacrifice. He turned and looked down at the battle and seethed. His servant the vile traitor Clevus had fled. With a growl and a flourish of his long gilded cape he started down the pyramid, "No matter," he spoke aloud to no living ears, "I will handle this myself."

Down the face of the pyramid where Clevus had been the Drow rolled up into a sitting position. Her face hurt and blood still trickled from her nose and the corner of her mouth, but she was not badly hurt, but more importantly, she had felt the circuits of her collar short and could feel her powers flowing back...

The icy-haired celebrity approached and knelt down beside the drow slave with the slowly swelling eye.  She wasn't particularly pleased with Jexa's claiming of a living being, especially an already slave at that, but she was hardly one to split hairs on subjects of morality.  After all, she was currently ascending an ancient pyramid on a planet she was a guest on and shooting up the place...

She gently glided her thumb across where the swelling had begun, wincing and sucking her teeth.  "That's gonna bruise, sweetie, sorry about that.  Listen dear, we've pretty much got things from here and that skin is far to perfect for further blemishes.  Why don't you find a shady spot, and let us take care of the rest, hmm?  This is sorta what we do, we're Big Damn Heroes™."  She shot her a wink and a winning smile.

She stood up, extending her hand to the crow to help her to her feet.  Her targeting reticle honed in on a goblin, hiding behind a pillar about to take aim on one of her companions.  She swung her pistol up and within the span of an eye blink she squeezed of the round and the electro-chemical exhaust of the round exploded from the barrel.  "Ugh," she scrunched her face in disgust at the goblins.  "Bloody things are so retched.  Like space-herpes... every time they show up, your hole night's blown to shit."  She offered a smile to the slave girl as the goblin's head adorned the pillar in a shower of red mist.  "I'm Evana, by the way."

The dogs howl in fear as The Big Damn Heroes cut down two more goblins with their accurate fire while most of the return fire misses, one blaster bolt strikes between Evana and the Drow splashing Evana with  burning plasma.

The Drow jumps up in front of the wounded human and raising her hand palm up pointed at the Goblin who shot at them, with a quick motion closing her hand nad drawing her arm back to her chest the goblin jerks spasmodically and then flies through the air toward the two women.

At the top, Mertwee calls out to his God "Bastet aid me in defeating these blasphemous unbelievers!" He raises arms toward the caverns roof and a bass thrum pulses from within the pyramid and energy swirls out in a semi transparent wave of force driving down the face of the pyramid like a tsunami!

The cosmic eddy strikes the remaining goblins and Halforcs and tosses them around like rag dolls breaking them as it rolls past them and into our heroes and beyond

She dashes in, trying to get in close enough to bring her sidearm's relatively unimpressive range to bear.

Jexa's eyes went wide at the wave of magical whoop-ass cascading down the pyramid right at them. "Oh shit." she uttered, mostly to herself. Instinctively she leaped and engaged her jump jets, but was unable to clear it entirely. Instead the top of the wave caught her feet, pulling them out from under her and sending a searing pain through her legs as they were knocked out from under her. With all the grace she could manage Jexa got her legs back beneath her and broke her fall with the jump jets, landing on her feet with a wince, where she then hears Echo's exclamations about magic.

"Magic isn't all bad." Jexa said with a grin as she skipped over to Echo with the aid of her jump jets and reached out touched Echo's arc pistol with a lone finger as she uttered an incantation. Wisps of magic swirled around her hand, tracing a circuit board pattern, which was then transferred to encompass Echo's pistol.

"I saw the shot you just made. Overcharge it again, but this time with a bit of help, and do it quick. This only lasts a few seconds." she explained, before adding, "Fuck'em up. Give'em a taste of his own medicine." with a grin and a wink before moving up the pyramid with boost-assisted leaps.

Gorunta was buffeted, and force enough to eventually shove over the straining vesk hard. But taking hard blows was all in a day's practice as far as Gorunta was concerned. So in light of the priest's high position and preference for magical overkill, the vesk elected to keep his prone position, working to sheathe his sword and bring out his laser rifle. He sighted on the priest... and his first shot burst several feet too low on the stone pyramid.

Altitude and ranging was a bitch.

Spoiler

Reflex: 1D20+2 = [8]+2 = 10

My presumption is that magical force waves don't trigger the Kinetic Damage Resistance, so Gorunta takes the full 11 damage and is knocked down.

Swift: Quick Draw to sheathe sword.
Swift: Quick Draw to draw laser rifle.
Standard: Open Fire!: 1D20+5 = [7]+5 = 12

Calling upon his connection to his goddess, Jordayn felt the pain of the Drow woman's beatings and took some of them unto himself. Just freed and still willing to fight her masters, Jordayn was glad to do so, giving her a nod a brief grin. "And I am Jordayn, a priest-companion of Arshea. This assignation has gone completely sideways, but a beauty such as yourself - youselves," the half-elven priest amended with a glance at Evana, his grin widening slightly, "makes it worth it all."

Flirting and tending to Echo and the Drow, Jordayn didn't have the time nor the reflexes to avoid the tumbling wave of force. His feet taken out from under him, Jordayn landed hard on his side, the fire extinguisher knocked from his hand, but his was quick to lever himself back to his feet. His eyes narrowed on the disgusting creature above them.

"I think you made it angry, Evana," Jordayn commented, referring to the black furred felinoid that had abandoned the battlefield. Seeing the blue-tressed beauty was more lightly armored than most, he prayed to Arshea, placing a sympathetic ward on Evana. "I hope you do not mind that I share any of enmity he may send your way."

"You frickin' fool - " Sunshine twisted this way and that, maneuvering through the falling rubble...

Spoiler

Sunshine Reflex save: 1D20+8 = [11]+8 = 19

Sunshine has evasion, which means she takes no damage!

... and she emerged with little more than kicked-up dust to show for it. "You bring this whole place down and you'll be stuck here with us!"

Sunshine decided to end it before it got that far, advancing on the mummy. She flipped her pistol from one hand to the other and fired from behind her back, attempting to catch it off-guard - trying to catch it in the midsection so that it'd be vulnerable to followup attacks.

Spoiler

Move Action: Moving in close up to 40 feet.

Standard Action: Attacking with laser pistol!

Sunshine acrobatics check for Trick Attack: 1D20+14 = [16]+14 = 30

Sunshine pistol damage (fire): 2D4+4+2+1D8 = [4, 4]+4+2+[1] = 15

Using Debilitating Attack; if Trick Attack hits, it leaves the target flat-footed until the beginning of my next turn.

"Blast it all," Evana cursed as the shockwave impacted her, sweeping her off her feet as her leather jacket caught fire from the plasma, searing and scorching it.  She took to the fall well enough, hitting the ground only to use the force of the blast to ride the backward momentum to roll onto her feet and press forward without missing a beat.  She dropped her gun and blade, to peel off the jacket, which was ruined at this point, to reveal what was really protecting her: a second skin body suit that appeared like nothing more than wet-look leather that was vacuum sealed to her frame.

She moved forward at a swift pace, looking to the drow slave girl and Jordayn, "Thanks, sweetie." she smacked him on the rump like a football player would do during the game after a good play.  "Stay put honey, let us handle this.  It's quite a show when we're all pissed off."

"Are you?" the slave girl asked.  "Pissed off, I mean."

She looked at her crew and they were all guns ans spells and...well, Gorunta doing what he did with the big guns and Vesk battle songs.  She smirked wryly as her weapons digitized and reformed in her hands.  "Sugar, I'd say we're pretty far past pissed.  Strap in."

She bolted as fast as she could, moving up the side of the pyramid before she came to a stop, sliding  on the stone to take cover behind some fallen rubble.  "Gorunta!  Get your ass in gear, that was a new jacket and if I have to take my pants off because you're screwing around, then needless to say, I will not be very happy!"

Spoiler

Reflex Save: Roll(1d20)+6: 12,+6 Total:18 [Success] 5 damage. (3 plasma damage from previous attack)

20 ST/28 HP (Shield Other)

Swift: Drop Weapons
Swift: Drop Jacket (non-armor piece)
Swift: Retrieve Weapons (Call Infusion)

Sunshine's laser beam flashes and burns into the undead High-priest's shoulder the energy impact startles him as his robe catches fire as he lays eyes on the rat that shot him! At the moment Echo's over charged shot slams into the priest square in the chest! Light flares as that bolt is stopped by a now coruscating force field which runs through the spectrum before collapsing letting some of the energy through

Patting out the flames on it's robe the feline Priest Snarls and Leaps at Sunshine landing about twenty five feet away from her it's free hand weaving as it emits  strange and evil meows, a sinister pencil thin beam shoots from its hand and strikes the Ysoki!

Spoiler

Mummy is 25 feet  away from Sunshine. It is flat footed until sunshine's next turn. You all now see that it has a force field which stopped echo's arc pistol cold (force filed took 20 damage allowing 7 points to leak through). the priest did take damage though from Sunshine's laser which ignores the force field. the priest  has taken 22 total damage.  Sunshine has been struck by a spell if she is of good alignment she takes 12 damage from divine energy (will save for 1/2 damage DC15)

It is next round Jexa you are up

Jexa's antenna perked up at the sight of the shot from Echo's supercharged arc pistol being mostly absorbed by the priest's force field, though it did end up overloading it, even if onl for the time being. "A force field? Nice." she commented to herself with a shrug and then winced at Sunshine's laser scorched the ancient, feline priest, catching him off guard to add insult to injury.

What she had not expected was for the priest to close the distance toward them, though the ray he fired at Sunshine certain explained it. This was their chance though, he was much closer now, his force field was down, and he was off-balance a bit, so the technomancer decided to capitalize on the situation. Jexa make a quick few gestures with a brief incantation, causing the faint patterns of circuitry in her tattoos to glow blue as small bits of various machines shot toward the priest while she drew technological energy from the very area itself. The bits of tech rapidly coalesced into small, first-sized robots, with the additional bits seeming to form from the magic itself. They took on the rough shape of canine heads, their various lights, motors and powercells given life by the spells until the priest was surrounded by a ten foot cloud of the small robots.

"Sick'em!" Jexa commanded and instantly the robotic canine began to bark at the priest, shooting at him with energy blasts from their mouths with each bark to harass and annoy the felanoid, adding to his confusion and disorientation, making him an easy target as he was partially occupied trying to avoid the blasts as he swiped at the microbots in futility, for when shattered, bits would gather gather again to form new robots as fast as he could shatter them.

"His force field is down and the microbots have him distracted, so light his ass up!" she called to the others and turned to Echo, tossing the android her arc pistol. <<Catch! My pistol is almost full charged >> she thought to Echo as the pistol arced through the air toward the android.

Spoiler

Standard Action
Casting "Microbot Assault" on the priest. It grants us all Covering Fire against him and slaps him with Harrying Fire vs us.

"Oh please!" Gorunta scoffed, rolling up to a kneeling position. "Like  it's my fault you're more interested in making it easier for others to get you naked than comprehensive armor!" He sighted on Mertwee, the silly crazed priest of Bastet - really, better seek a more impressive deity like Damoritosh! This time his shot hit, with the zing of laser fire in the air.

"And don't claim that Second Skin counts!" He added, dropping the laser rifle and drawing his blade again. Honestly, he was beginning to think it might be good to have a high-powered pistol for this situations. "It's so obviously molded to your body, I'm surprised there's not a matching opening in the crotch!"

Any reply of hers was drowned out by the vesk cheerfully and loudly humming the tune for Damorik's Last Stand.

On 2/19/2018 at 1:58 AM, Evana said:

"Gorunta!  Get your ass in gear, that was a new jacket and if I have to take my pants off because you're screwing around, then needless to say, I will not be very happy!"

"I can't say I wouldn't mind the view, though,"  Jordayn countered in amusement, still feeling the fading sting of Evana's slap.

He followed after Evana, scanning his companions with a healer's practiced, but none seem in any particular danger at the moment. Jexa had already accosted the desecration that was the felinoid mummy with a sward of techno-arcane mini-bots, so instead he marshaled the spark of the goddess residing inside him for later endeavors and settled for snapping off a shot from his shock pistol.

Scaling up the pyramid behind Evana and Sunshine, Jordayn drifted to their left to give himself a line on the Mummy. A bolt of tightly bound lightning flashed by Evana, striking the foul priest squarely in chest. He was no expert marksman, but knew enough to strike for center mass.

Spoiler

Damage Roll: 1d6+3 6 Damage (Electricity) to the Mummy

Spoiler

Sunshine Will Save (DC15): 1D20+4 = [13]+4 = 17

A success, so Sunshine takes 6 damage.

"Hfft - " Sunshine staggered under the weight of the spell, feeling the crush of capital-E evil bearing down on her - in her mind it felt like the Suck, the space between stars and planets defined by radiation, freezing cold, no air, no pressure, and where almost nothing could survive. The opposite of life.

But in that realm, bloomed hope, and she took solace in her faith to the Black Butterfly, patron goddess of those souls whose living were made in the Suck, who sailed on a sea with vessels and bodies and equipment forged on the technicality of "almost." And she rallied, swung her legs around and flipped up into the air, firing her pistol once more.

Spoiler

First, here comes Acrobatics for the Trick Attack:

Sunshine acrobatics check for Trick Attack: 1D20+14 = [18]+14 = 32

Most likely a success, so target is considered flat-footed, and another shot from Sunshine's laser pistol...

Sunshine pistol attack roll: 1D20+3+4 = [8]+3+4 = 15

(This does not include the +2 from Jexa - with that +2, that's a 17.)

Close - if it hits, here is the damage:

Sunshine laser pistol damage (fire): 2D4+4+2+1D8 = [3, 4]+4+2+[2] = 15

Sunshine is also going to make use of Debilitating Attack to keep the mummy flat-footed, if at all possible.

"Gorunta, have you been going through my closet again?  You little perv..." Evana shouted back to Gorunta with a whorish smirk.  The BDH's kept the bantering going on, shouting back and forth like the Big Bad wasn't even really here and this was all some elaborate air soft game they were playing on the weekend.  She scowled at the Mummy when it's magic beam slammed into Sunshine but was relieved when she saw the fur ball was okay.  Needless to say the Envoy's banter had a way of annoying anyone, especially ancient mummy's hell bent on taking over the world.

"This has gone on long enough," she said softly under her breath as she rose from her cover and squeezed off two round from her Tactical Pistol.  The shots echoed in the cavers, far louder than lasers or arc pistols (and she was wondering slightly what everyone's fetish with electricity was).

(Not sure if they get past it's Force Field, so I'm stopping my description there.)

With it's force-field down between cycles the barrage of laser and arc bolts lashed into the undead priests body send him into a spasmodic dancing jerks as he was driven backward up the pyramid side with each shot, small blossoms of fire  lighting up his desiccated form. With a scream of feline pain and fury the Priests spun away and his body seemed to swirl into particulate matter, like sand, and flowed, rapidly back toward the top of the Pyramid where the spell to rais bastet was still processing.

The Heroes managed a few more shots but having no effect on the sand form of the mummy they were force to follow.

At the top of the pyramid the came upon an alter lying prone on the alter was the perfectl preserved body of a female felinoid dressed in intricate robes of gold, it's arms crossed across her chest hands grasping two ornate scepters. Above the body a shimmering globe of magical force from which rays sprinkled down upon the reclining form bathing it in soft light. Above all of this the ring of floating canines wailing in terror as thier lif foce is slowly sucked from them and fed intot he dead cat god.

As the heroes  crested the top they took all of this in as well as seeing the newly reformed Mummy priest in front of the dead god now wielding a weapon, a long thin staff topped with a crystalline spiral around which four glowing stones orbited. The staff is of obvious technical manufacture but to those with the means of detection, it also gives off a powerful magical aura.

Spoiler

The mummy can take no further actions this round all of you are with in close (20-30 feet), the mummy appears to be unharmed even its robes and accouterments that were damaged by your earlier fire look whole. it's FF has only had one turn of recharge though so is no where near full strength.

Jexa glances at the sphere above the dormant, soon-to-be-cat-god, and scanned it, checking it against her knowledge of the mystic arts as she drew her laser pistol.

"Magic is many things." she said to Echo as she reached out and tapped the arc pistol in the android's hand, causing glowing, blue mystic runes that looked more like electrical circuits to encircle the barrel like a halo. "In this case, it is also blazing, electric death. And remember, sharing is caring, so let'em have it." she added with a grin.

Spoiler

Free Action:
Use Mysticism skill to identify the spell and get any info about it.

"Well," the android replied with a grin. "What's a little blazing electric death between friends?"

She looked over at the ascendant cat-god and called out, "Hey, Fluffy. Nice stick."

Then Echo aimed the pistol, her exocortex feeding her minute corrections, and unleashed hell. Jexa's magic, combined with her own hacking of the weapon's safety protocols, resulted in a positively Amazonian river of skyfire. It twined and crackled through the air, given a strange sort of serpentine life by the technomage's spells. When it found its target, the thunderclap was physical thing...a slap across the whole body that ruffled hair and clothing. Had there been windows close by, they'd have broken.

Echo slowly peeked between the fingers of her left hand, which she'd had to hold up to shield her eyes from the glare.

"Sometimes tough love is needed," Jordayn amended to Jexa's and Gorunta's comments, as blade and blaster once more fell upon the mummy.

The trim half-elf followed in the hulking Vesk's wake, then ducked left around him and the reconstituted undead felinoid and angled toward the altar.  The sphere of eldritch force was the physical manifestation of the ritual that was stealing the life of the canines and transferring it the supposed Goddess. It would take magic stronger than his to directly disrupt the ritual.

But perhaps he could disrupt the ritual indirectly. Jordayn was no engineer, but if a component was pulled from a completed circuit, hopefully it would short out and collapse. And look, there was a component of the ritual sitting right there in reach, on the altar.

"Sorry, Lady. You're cute and all, but the dogs are adorable."

Jordayn wasn't particularly strong, but he had helped more than a few onto gurneys and medical beds. And this time, he didn't need to consider a patient's comfort or health. He reached out swiftly to grab an arm and leg, then yanked the preserved, female body off the altar, trying to minimize exposure to the field of life force being siphoned from the canines.

"Wow," Evie said as she spun back around to face the mummy.  Her commlink's floating cam had managed to capture the most impressive selfie of saluting her social media fan base as the creature was being laced with electric death.  The look on its face was priceless.  "Awesome shot guys!  Thanks!"

She aimed her pistol and blasted the mummy in the chest her pistol.  The impact staggered it a bit more.  "You, however, can piss off."
