I can help spitball concepts! Here's a sampler:

1) Bodyguard. A cop or soldier who returned to private life and got into private security contracting. A consummate professional, meticulous, discrete, and respectful of his clients even when they're pricks.

2) Current or former astronaut! From when you were a kid, you always wanted to go into space. You studied hard, you joined the Air Force, and from there went to NASA. As much or more a scientist as you are a military man, you served a stint on the space station and got to see the planet from orbit. You're driven and know how to dig deep to make what you want happen, but deep inside you're a starry-eyed dreamer too.

3) Deep sea diver. Forget space. We haven't even finished exploring EARTH yet. The mysteries under the sea put barren moons and stormy gas giants to shame. You may have some background in the Navy or Marines, but your main focus is exploration and science. Maybe you're one of the experienced, hardened people who escort scientists on these dives to keep them safe. Maybe you're a scientist yourself. You've stared into the inky blackness of the Abyssals, and seen the alien creatures that dwell within. You've seen sights of incalculable beauty like swarms of glowing jellyfish all moving as one. Things only a handful of other people could claim to have seen. How has that changed you?

4) Actor! Yeah, when you were a kid you got seduced by the lure of high-octane combat sports like MMA. You got into it, and quickly realized that getting hit in the face for 15 minutes SUCKS. It's not that you were bad; hell you were pretty good! It's just that even a good fight was hard and painful and took a toll on the body and mind. Good news was that you were good looking enough, and had enough presence, that you quickly took your career over to acting in action movies. Maybe it was 'fake' fighting...and maybe it's "fake" acting, but hey...the pay's better, the job's better, and people love you even more! Being fake rules!

5) Stockbroker. You're a wolf on wall street; a Patrick Bateman. A power broker, a force of nature. What you see you want. What you want you get. Your body and mind are finely honed instruments, your soul you left behind long ago. It just got in the way. There are not winners and losers in the world; there are losers and YOU. You got into finance not because you have a deep commitment to the idea of trading, but because you assessed career paths and picked the one with the quickest and most ruthlessly meritocratic path to the lifestyle you had chosen for yourself; abject luxury.

And much, much more! (^_^)

She was on the street for over a week and this set a pattern of acting out which would last until she was old enoguh to take charge of her life. She learned how to take care of herself, how to live and even thrive on the streets but she knew that if she stayed in the city she would end up dead so when she turned 18 she packed her meager belongings into a worn back pack and set out hitchhiking for Seattle where she hoped to fins a new clean start.

Temper: Mercy is angry. Angry at the world, her shitty parents, her fucked up extended family, her teachers, the social workers who try to help, the other street kids pretty much everyone she knows or has ever met. That anger simmers it cooks and bubbles just beneath the surface and sometime it boils over and when that happens she lashes out at whatever the trigger is often violently. Only her age and the intervention of truly concerned social workers have kept her out of serious trouble but it's only a matter of time before her temper lands her in jail or even more serious trouble.

Deacon is a 19 year old genius who is beginning his internship as a forensic pathologist.  He possesses two degrees, a Masters in Physics and a Doctorates in Forensic Medicine.  Perhaps it's drive or ambition, or perhaps it's his personal sense to prove himself to everyone that he doesn't need his family's to make his mark in the world but Deacon has chosen a life to serve the public.

He's gonna probably power up into a speedster, since I've never actually played one before.

Ali Badren previously lived on the East Coast with his father, a Lebanese doctor who had immigrated to the United States and married Moira, Ali's Catholic mother, having two kids, the younger Ali and the older Leyla. Pressure from his father led to Ali going into medical school, though distance from his overbearing family motivated him to move all the way over to study at Washington University in St. Louis.

I hope this won't be one of those games where we have pacifists and 'do no harm' types.  If we're gonna save the world or do battle... I swear I'm not gonna get stuck carrying another character's weight.

If you're leaning towards that concept, as a player, I'm letting you know that you are on your own.  We don't get extra benefits or rewards for protecting you or saving your hide, and you put extra work on us.  I'm just speaking for me, though.  Some players love doing everything for the softies.

It's the Hippocratic Oath, not a vow of pacifism, Dave. There's room for interpretation, and depending on what we're dealing with, room to sidestep. And in particular, that's why I linked to it, so we're clear that this does not mean Ali is a non-combatant.

Complications
- Motivation: A life of purpose - Since her injury, Juno has been struggling with depression and feelings of impotence. Every day there are things she used to be able to do that she can't, and things that used to be easy are now difficult. For someone who always measured the worth of herself by what she can do it's especially hard.

- Armless but not Harmless: Juno's left arm has been amputated just above the elbow due to injuries sustained from an explosive device during her tour in Afghanistan.

- Automotivated: Juno's a big car buff; the bigger the engine, the better the performance, the better. Muscle cars from the mid to late 1900's, sports cars, off-roaders...anything with far too much power for its own good.

- Brother Where Art Thou: Juno's big brother Ethan, who'd done his best to keep her out of gang life even as he was sucked in, got busted while she was in the service and is currently in prison working on the first half of a ten year sentence and hoping for parole.

Fair enough.  In fact, I'm glad you brought up the Hippocratic Oath because I see it a lot for the players of doctors and what not.

The Hippocratic Oath extends to Doctor/Patient... it is essentially the Doctor swearing an oath to do all he or she can to care for and heal their patients or those who are sick and in turn do nothing that would bring them harm through inaction or negligence.  So, there is no 'interpretation' or 'room to sidestep'.  That's pretty much it, cut and dry.  That's not to say a Doctor can't be a pacifist, but trust me, I know a few and they all agree that when it comes to survival instinct vs. Hippocratic Oath... survival wins out every time.

If they are not your patients or already injured and in need of your care then you will do what you can to help them.  It doesn't extend to frothing extra-dimensional aliens, demons, rapists trying to corn-hole you with a lawn dart, or evil villains smashing your face in with a brick.  Any Doctor faced with life or death, or me or you circumstances of survival is not bound by the Hippocratic Oath to let themselves get jacked up for the sake of dying 'true to their word', that's just ignorance.

Now, that's not to say they'll go all ham and kill everyone and then go administer some flu shots, no.  In the case of another person trying to hurt them it would be totally logical to kick that person's ass up one side and down the other and once they are thoroughly defeated that bad person may wake up in the hospital finding it's the man or woman who kicked their ass treating their injuries.  Compassionate Badassery, is the term I like to use.  I fact those are the sorts of characters who are, despite being bad asses, tend to take the evil people and try to show them a better way through their compassion and understanding... make an enemy your ally, sorta folks.

Kay, my rant is done.

And remember... the Bible is very specific about 'thou shalt not kill' but it is a little fuzzy on the subject of knee caps.

Okay, I'm getting ready to start the opening post. I need one thing from each of the players:

What is your PC doing at 6:45 p.m. on any random Tuesday? I need the what, where, and even why if you're so inclined. PM or post it here, please.

6:45....that'd be dinnertime, I think, in the Reyes apartment. She's washed all the engine grease off. Now she's having a cheap, filling meal (mac and cheeeeeeeeese), kicking back a beer and maybe watching something on Netflix to unwind before nodding off.
