Recommended Posts

To do a flashback post start your character off in the present  and when your ready to go into the past event clearly marke the where and when  and any text that is in the past use Italics.

For example

ABEL'S JEEP IN ROUTE TO THE FOOTBALL GAME

SATURDAY

Sara sat in the back seat with Sean holding hands something this they had taken to doing pretty much whenever they were together now. Sean was Sara's security blanket...

THE RESERVATION CAMP SITE RIDGE

WEDNESDAY AFTER SCHOOL

They had brought the marshmallows this time. They sat side by side on the old log ....(and so on)

A few things/questions.

Lilly has some firearms training from hunting with her father (Firearms 1) and will certainly learn to use other guns and such if we are trained in them, though there is really not a gun that could possibly match what she can do with a punch until you get to like the big gun on a main battle tank. So unless they have something sitting around that is heavy, but not too bulky, "Well, that weights 500 kg, so we never really considered it 'man-portable' before...", otherwise Lilly will carry a gun or grenade launcher or whatever, but it's use would be limited.

On that same note, would it be possible for the Sean/Abel/Alec brain trust to make a bow out of some crazy material that Lilly could use her Mega-Strength 3 with? Maybe more material could be added to allow it to keep in line with her m-str as it goes up?

Are we/will we be issued any body armor? Lilly is certainly not above wearing kevlar or whatever and other members of the party could really benefit from some extra protection.

I assume McKeller start training us on hand signals and use of headset radios and stuff? (It is my understanding we are keeping Guild Chat super double ultra top secret from everybody, including McKeller. Correct?

Speaking of firearms, totally forgot about some kick-ass guns for Sean. Even if she doesn't have the time to build them yet with the other things she is working on, she start designing some personal firearms (pistols and rifles) using coil/Gauss or Railgun principles.

Not sure about a potential M-Str Bow or advanced kevlar/ballistic armor, but advanced materials will develop as a byproduct of studying the Alien Tech and in the process of developing other technologies. For the moment, Sean will suggest that Lilly just carry a few extra K-bars and throw them with tank-busting force. :P

This is a milestone moment. I will be making a post over the next week that covers a lot of ground around the characters but not involving them. You may spend points now as you wish following the normal guidelines if you have a question ask me. all characters receive the following as listed.

Each character recieves ONE of the following at no cost.

+1 Dot in Strength

+1 Dot in Dexterity

+1 Dot in Stamina

+1 Dot in Perception

Each character recieves ALL of the following at no cost

+1 Dot Might

+1 Dot Athletics

+1 Dot Martial Arts

+1 Dot Tactics

If your character has 5 Dots in a Ability already she instead aquires a specialty in that ability.

POWERS AND ENHANCEMENTS

Characters must activate all Latent powers or sell inactive Latent Powers back for 3 XP each.

From this point forward no character should have any Latent Powers.

Characters may with ST approval buy 1 new power. This is in addition to any latents you activate

All characters receive +1 Dot in Psychic Shield at no cost (if you do not for role-playing reasons wish to develop Psi Shield power take 5 XP instead, but you my never develop Psi Shield power in the future)

All Characters receive +1 Dot in the Node Background this may raise the background beyond 5 dots

All Characters receice +5 base Quantum Points for their pool.

Characters with 4 or less Quantum Score May now Spend Points to Raise their Quantum Score by 1

ok for me to proceed I need to know what the main group is going to do.

you can either tell me in here ooc and i'll post it or make a post  in character in the thread.

but lets not bog things down.

I figure the main group will update Grace Sisiano on the situation, and through her Guardian Shield. If the Project has picked up anything on their end that might lead them to Laurie and Devin, then Sean at least will leave the Ball to go look into it. If they don't have anything that seems likely to help immediately, then I suppose she'll suggest they stick around so as not to cause any more disturbances, though she'll still privately fret - unless anyone else has a better idea (or if super smart Sean has a better idea than I do :P )

I suppose Laurie, Devin, and Comatose Barbie will explore what they can on the ship(?). :D See if they can find out how they got there or if they can find a way back or someway to send a message.

So, I know IC there is a lot of stuff Jaunt wouldn't know, but OOC I need a few clarifications so I can keep from making errors or improper assumptions.

1. Are they back on Earth or random planet somewhere that sustains human life.
2. Does the guild chat work for Laurie and Devin right now?
3. Will Devin's 'special power' work at the moment?
4. Is Clare, or her breasts, anywhere within sight?

I didn't want to assume, so I thought I'd drop it here and get some deets before setting up a reply.

ok couple of things.

1st up

I have taken over Alec as an NPC

2nd

I have had to ask for some editing on a few posts recently... I am glad that most of you are still very interested in aws and want to post but at the same time I need the posts to be more focused especially when we are not making narrative over time posts.

even when we are not in combat rounds, posts in real time (such as at the dance) need to be relatively brief with concern for what is happening in the post. that doesn't mean the post needs to be short, just that the post can't have your character doing many things or holding multiple conversations.

Limit a single posts actions to something that would take a minute or less of time. this will allow others to respond to the action in their own post. with conversations. if it is a mental conversation you can have more than one going but indicate that you are holding more than one and who with... and give the other person a chance to respond before moving on to the next subject. if it is a voice conversation only hold one per post and again don't have a whole conversation in a single post without allowing the other player to respond.

Things may take longer to unfold but it is much better to allow everyone to get involved including your story teller.

Cramming too much into a post during real time makes it hard for others to make their own posts.

3rd

i had something else but go distracted... oh well

Hey guys, we're doing a lot of talking about going somewhere but no one's actually getting there.  I know Jaunt is the Heimdall with the discovery of his new ability but please by all means everyone don't wait for me to post to get you there.  Feel free to simply have him start whisking people to where they need to go (he doesn't need to go with them, to my knowledge, Nina, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, please).  As long as he has an established psychic link with someone he can summon that person to him or send that person away to anywhere within his power to send them.  He doesn't need physical contact.

I love writing for Jaunt, but it's safe to say at this point I have saturated the current chapter with the glorious wonders that are Jaunt in all his fantasticalness and splendor.  At this point I fee like I've hogged the story and that's not fair to the rest of ya, so if you need him to get you somewhere so the awesomeness can begin, don't wait on me.

C'mon, let's go wreck some shit.

you do not have to touch them or travel with them you just need to have the psychic link. you do still need to either see the destination in real time or have teleported to the destination yourself in the past. the only restriction is power you have to pay the cost for each person you teleport at a time..

So if you send three people to help alec at bunnies it will cost you QP for three teleports... but it happens simultaneously, you do not have to do 3 separate teleports.

Currently then Jaunt has 14/30 points, or 7 jaunts left.  He's below 50% juice, so he's feeling tired.  All you big brains need to develop an energy drink or something instead of building the government all the things they'll need to collar us when the alien thing is taken care of. :P

"Not that. I haven't tried yet. I just thought that I should have dyed my hair here, to see if I liked it. You know, a safe test run."

Devin groaned and hit his forehead to the table again.

"What? I'm still a girl, dude." she retorted.

It's these little moments that help remind me we're playing teenagers.  I genuinely chuckled.  :)
Well played Lills.

Ok not making excuses or anything but I am just not feeling creative. I do not want to kill the game but I'm just going through some shit right now. so there.

I have closed the current chapter and I am going on Hiatus from story telling for a while. i do not know for how long.

If you want to stick around please do Sean and Dave have started a personal side thread and it's a good way to keep things alive while i'm trying to find my mojo.

so that being said if you want to do a side thread go right ahead. if you need my input about anything just message me other wise feel free to do what ever you want

if you need to have a new qeh go ahead just keep them with in the following limits

quantum 1-3   if you have to have some one stronger check with me please.

can be good guys or bad guys.

don't be worried about keeping everything secret. it will be coming out sooner. Use what ever you need

try not to start any wars.

don't worry about my approval I'll make things work when I'm ready to pick back up.

I will award Xp to anyone who does this for everything they do.

Hey, Justin.  Keep in mind that for those repairs to be permanent you need to spend a point of permanent willpower.  I'll reply once you decide whether cleaning up after Sara is worth the price.

OH THE DRAMA! :D

Jaunt's reply is going to be close to the same either way, I just don't want to do a continuity edit.

Ok to reflect the training you have been doing with Apollo and Pandoa everyone except Mari and Jer's new character (sorry Jer but it's the nature of the narrative, but they will get them down the line if they play well with the team.) gets the following at  no cost

+1 to your quantum score

+10 to your Quantum Points

+1 to a single Mega Ability (new or one you already have) and one free enhancement for any mega ability ( the free enhancement is in addition to any free  enhancement you may get with the point of Mega

Alll of the first wave characters have been given an XP award to bring them to parity with a 350xp character

Tease and Charlie Cole, as Second wave characters will receive a xp bump after this chapter but probably not to the full first wave amount (depends on the story and their participation)

You may spend xp freely during this chapter. you may not raise your quantum score past 7. If you develop a new power you may not raise it beyond 1 dot. you may raise existing powers,  stats, any mega stats, and any abilities by more than 1 dot

The P.E.M.

The P.E.M. is a soak system that quite simply means Physical/Energy/Mental.

Physical Soak is derived from you Stamina + Mega Stamina, plus any enhancements.  You should know how to calculate physical soak if you've played Aberrant before.

Energy Soak is derived the same as Physical Soak.

Mental Soak is derived from Wits + Mega Wits, plus any enhancements (shut up, I'll get to that).  Your Mega-Wits soak is done exactly like the soak for Mega-Stamina.  So a Mega-Wits of 2 and a Mega-Stamina of two increase your Mental and Physical soak the same, respectively.  Your base Mental Soak is: Wits = Bashing Mental Soak and 1/2 your Wits = Lethal Mental Soak.

Why Wits and not Intelligence or Perception?
Wits is your mind's ability to cope and swiftly adjust to changing conditions all around you, be they physical (reacting in combat) or mental (a witty retort).  Wits is the closest mechanical approximation that allows a character to recover being 'punched in the brain' by sorting through the static and chaff of a mental assault allowing them to work past it swiftly and continue on defending themselves.

How do my soaks differ?
Soaks differ when you start to tack on certain powers, like Elemental Mastery or Invulnerability, or even Armor.  Unless the power says otherwise, it will generally protect you against both physical and energy based attacks (like Armor, for example).  So each dot in Armor will add +3B/+3L to both your Physical and your Energy soak values.  Certain powers, like Elemental Shield (in the Elemental Mastery suite) only provides its protection against only one particular form of energy at a time.  In this case it adds only to your Energy soak.

Mental powers are different.  Unless the power specifically states it protects you against mental attacks... then it doesn't.  So Armor will not add its totals in your defense against a mental blast.  It should be pretty cut and dry in the power's description.  If the power says pick a specific energy type (like Cold, for example), then do so and don't ask stupid questions like "Does that work on Fire too?"

It's pretty common sense stuff so far right?

You mentioned Enhancements?
Ugh, yes, on to the fun stuff.

Mega-Wits Enhancements-

Stubborn
You're stubborn, and it shows when people try to get into your head to do some damage.  Your mind works quickly enough to sift through the mixed signals of a solid mental assault and toughen you against what is live and what is Memorex.  This enhancement allows you to roll your Mega-Wits dice as added resistance when you roll your Willpower to defend against a mental assault.  Also, because these are Mega-Dice you may also use your Mega-Wits to lower your difficulty to defend against the attack.  This enhancement may be activated reflexively, and costs 1 quantum point to use.

F**k You!
When assaulted by a mental attack you can convert your Willpower into Mega-Dice to defend against the assault.  For each Quantum Point you spend you may roll one point of your Willpower as a Mega-Die in defense against a psychic (mental) attack.  So if you have a Willpower of 10, you may spend 10 Quantum Points to roll your entire Willpower as Mega-Dice.  You are still limited by the number of quantum you may spend in any given turn, however.  You may activate this enhancement reflexively.

Bull Headed
This functions exactly like the Resiliency Enhancement for Mega-Stamina except that it contribute only to your mental soak values derived from you Mega-Wits.  You may purchace this enhancement twice, double the soak gained by your normal Wits score as well.

Durability
If you have the Mega-Stamina enhancement, Durability, then you may use it to protect against Mental Aggravated Damage.  Agg damage is universal in what protects against it.

Extras:

Tenacious
This is the mental equivalent to Armor Piercing.  Each success you score on a mental power roll lowers the defenders soak by 2 points (bashing and lethal) as well removing 2 automatic successes from any defenses they might also possess (like Psychic Shield or Invulnerability).  It should be noted that this only affects automatic successes gained from powers, you may not use it to reduce the successes gained by a defender with their resistance roll.

Mega-Socials vs. Mental Attacks

Short and sweet...

Mega-Social enhancements are generally not mental assaults/attacks or forms of control.  Okay, some kind of are, but for the most part the Enhancement tells you exactly what's up.  People are fond of "I spend a point of Willpower and ignore the Enhancement."  The problem with that approach is that Willpower and to some extent the Iron Will Merit, only function when you are forced to do something you don't want to do.

A majority of Social Enhancements don't force you.  They convince you.  Persuader, for example, adds auto successes to an opposed skill roll.  So, if Abel uses Persuader on Jaunt and Jaunt fails to beat Abel's successes... Abel has convinced Jaunt to see things from his point of view, he hasn't forced him to do anything.  Hypnotic Gaze can't force you to do anything you'd be opposed to doing (seriously).  So if Abel used Hypnotic Gaze and told Jaunt to 'go watch porn' and Jaunt failed to resist... that's it.  Jaunt's gonna dip out for a bit and work the gerkin.  Iron Will and spending Willpower won't save him because he's not under any form of mental control.  Sure, he's been manipulated, but his mind deosn't know, nor care, because it's not out of character for him so the Merit Wouldn't even come into play and he'd have no reason to spend Willpower.

Are there Social Enhancements that can Force you do to something?  Yes, there are a few.  Especially the fan made ones that are almost on par with Level 1 powers.  The fact boils down to this: are you persuading or forcing?  Just because you loose a skill roll doesn't mean you've been forced into something.  Suck it up and take the hit, pansy.
