Here's what I got so far. I have an basic idea on looks, but having problems finding a picture of him in the style I want him to wear for the period.

Looks: Cad has short choppy, but somewhat trim dark brown hair. Cad has a pair of dark blue eyes. He has tan skin. He often wears simple but functional clothing that he often works in. He prefers light colors and nothing real flashy, yet what he wears often give a feel of someone whom is a business man in his field of work. He is often seen with his trade mark katana at his side, especially when he is at work.

Personality: Has a passion for knowledge and learning. He also has a passion for exploration and traveling to new places. Cad likes to question things and as such is often curious about various topics ranging from the past and present events, to various magic formulas and spells production, to how something is created.

Cad can be blunt if not direct in things. He doesn't like arrogant or uptight people. This is especially true with a particular wizard or mage type. He also tries to explain things as easy as he can so people can understand what he is saying when it comes to things in general. He doesn't like to complicate things more in his life then what need to be.

Cad has no love towards goblins. That is the same as they often try to kill him and vice versa. Then again he doesn't like it when anything tries to kill him. Yet goblins are for the most part of his life that have been a general thorn in his side for some reason or another. More so then some of the other people he has travel with, which some he might put up there with goblins.

Cad cares deeply for his family, even if they give him shit. He is loyal to them and will not insult them. He feels a bit burden on his parents in the past for wanting him to be what they wanted him and it still bugs him a bit. It clashes with Cad's desire to be, well Cad and his desire to be free. Yet he will go to defend his family as well as those whom get close enough to be called his friends.

Background: Cad is from a diverse family. His parents were strict and each wanted him to partake of their own profession. Cad's brother had became similar to his father in a long line of soldiers. Cad sister had become like her mother in a long line of alchemist and wizards who were a part of a merchants guild. Yet the problem with Cad was that he was rather talented in both sword and sorcery and could go down either path.

Yet Cad did not want either life, yet had cravings of both in a sense. He had his father's wander lust and his mother thirst for knowledge. It is either a recipe for a great hero, or a fools end. Yet with the life Cad's lived so far that could lead him either way.

Yet in his child hood, Cad had not yet achieved the understanding of how to best mix swords with magic. Yet his parents knew who could best teach him, yet also was concern about the person. That person was Cad's grandfather, Arthur Hugh, a man who had a great reputation and was in some view a very great and noble person. Yet the organization that Arthur worked for was not in their view either. As such they fear that Cad would some how get involved with the organization Arthur had ties to if he was to train Cad.

As such Cad did not know much of his grandfather till their fateful encounter during one of his mother business trips. Along the way they stumble upon some ancient ruins. The place fascinated Cad but concern his parents. More for their son sake then their own. So they, along with the group they were in, moved away from the place in order to find a safer place to spend the night. Yet unfortunately where they camp was not so far as to let Cad slip away to explore it more on his own.

As Cad was exploring the ruins he nearly got killed by an nasty trap. Yet he was saved by a group of strangers exploring that ruins in order to unlock a room only accessible at night. Among those strangers was Cad's grandfather yet he did not know that. He escorted Cad to his parents. Cad got scolded by his parents, but the grandfather found a opportunity to offer advice and help. The parents went into an argument till they reach a agreement. They agree to allow Arthur to train Cad as long as he would not be a part of the organization or work with said organization. An agreement Arthur found suitable.

Since then Cad has explored several ruins under Arthur guidance and also has explored the world some what. So far he is fascinated in ancient cultures and their past. Now a days he works alone as a part time explorer for people willing to hire him. Yet he has also done some odd jobs here and there for money to live off by. He also helps his family if they need any help as well, most often though no in the they way they intended.

Background!

Annika's father is a bard of renown, a man of wit and song, who's satires scathe the tyrants and who's tales of heroism inspire the humble. Annika herself idolizes him, and wished to follow in his footsteps; an endeavor he supported her in. However, this support may have been too enthusiastic. While investigating a strange ruin, Annika fell victim to a terrible curse. With a spell her father managed to keep her alive, but only just. He took her to a great healer, but their spells were unable to remove the wasting death that was overtaking her. A divination revealed that from death the curse came, and only by death could it be satisfied.

Refusing to admit defeat, the great bard called in favors, but it was taking too long, and exhausting his finances. When all seemed lost, he was visited by a man who offered what he said was a way out...in exchange for a service.

Desperate, her father agreed, and they went forth into the high peaks of the mountains that loomed over the lands. There they encountered what the man had said they'd find; a great phoenix, a bird of fire and possessing powers of immortality. It screamed at them, and scolded them, and they could not understand or speak to it.

So Annika's father played, and sang for it. And into this song he poured his whole heart, his whole soul...all of the bottomless despair, and the breathless hope. All of the love he bore his daughter emerged, and the phoenix quieted.

Then it dove down. It wrapped Annika in its wings, and pulled them tight as it flared brightly...too hot to approach, too hot to look at. A moment later, only ashes were left.

In the horrified silence that followed, something rose from the ashes. Annika...made whole again. Not exactly the same though. Her rich corn-silk hair was bright red-orange now, and her back had a mark over it, stretching between her shoulderblades. A pattern of darker lines etched into her skin as if she'd been born with them. A pattern that resembled stylized wings, with curls of flame.

Father and daughter returned to civilization, but no sooner had they come to their inn than the man who'd directed them to the phoenix appeared again. Time to collect. With no choice but to honor his arrangement, Annika's father left her with some money and supplies, and went to take care of whatever this service was. She never knew.

In the days that followed, Annika found that changes in hair and skin weren't the only differences. A fierce and wild magic burned in her, but also the potential for renewal. Afraid of what she could suddenly do, Annika sought out the local mage's college in Magnimar. Their analysis showed that she possessed a thing called 'the Phoenix Crest,' a thing only written of in rare and old texts. It had not appeared in centuries, and even those accounts were spotty and inconclusive as to its nature and origins. The mages wanted to study it further, but Annika was concerned that their curiosity might mean she wouldn't be allowed to leave.

She wanted to find her father, but had no leads, and worse...no contacts or money. Hearing of the theater opening in Sandpoint made her think that perhaps appearing there, working her trade, would give her opportunities not just to make money, but meet other performers who might know her father. Who might have heard something of his exploits since leaving.

It wasn't much, but it was a start.
