I don't expect this movie to be good, I expect this movie to be 'fun'. That's why I go to the movies in he first place, to escape the ordinary and the mundane. I'm sure on all levels this movie will not live up to the 'good' expectation, but if I can laugh, be amazed for a few moments at what they do with the effects and even once mentally go "yeah!" when they kick the baddies in the ding-ding... it'll be worth every penny.

honestly I'm kinda with you on it being the most fun.  I think the soundtrack helped it for me, and of course Rocket was pretty awesome.  The scene at the end of the credits was totally unexpected, and an audience reaction got a huge laugh from me.

It was okay.

Aesthetically gorgeous, and the moments where it’s just the five GOTG shooting the shit are great, and the action is as well-done as the Marvel movies of the last two years have been. But wow, that movie’s editing and pacing are super-weird and uneven, I cannot for the life of me figure out what Thanos is doing in there, it has explainer’s syndrome (I counted at least twice, characters explaining exactly why they felt what they felt,) a limp villain, and some distractingly huge continuity issues (for a city that we are assured was totally evacuated, there sure were a lot of people there to watch Ronan say the title of the movie.)

It is watchable purely on charm and that gets it pretty far, but I can't see really rewatching this. Oh well.

Folks who want to know a bit more about the situation the creator of Rocket Raccoon has found himself in can check out the website of comics writer Greg Pak, who is a swell dude. Be warned: the story of Bill Mantlo is not a very happy one. Please donate what you can.

I paid to see a sociopathic gun-wielding raccoon, and I got to see a sociopathic gun-wielding raccoon, all my needs were met.  Having no expectations helped with watching that film as I could just enjoy it, it's obvious that they made that film for the same reason they made Thor, to see how far they can push the boundaries and still have it be sellable.  And they need to do that, IF they plan to give us a Dr. Strange film.

[spoilertag: Spoilers ahead]

I note that they're going with vague functions for the "infinity Stones" in these movies.  ALL of them will apparently kill you, but they seem to have vague functions totally unlike their comic book counterparts, so i've given them new names;

First we have the "Utility" gem (Tesseract) which can be plugged into machines and used to make...stuff in addition to opening doors to other areas of space.

Next we get the "Dark" gem (Aether) which transmutes matter into dark matter and is simultaneously liquid, gas, and crystal solid.

And in Guardians we see the "Hostility" gem (Orb) which does nothing but obliterate organic life and leave blasted wastelands.

Have to agree with darksol-aeternium above: I paid to see what they could do with such an offbeat cast of characters & I liked what I saw quite a bit. I got my money's worth AFA I'm concerned. Besides, this was another origins film & they're always a bit rocky IIRC.

That said, I'm eager to see what Marvel's rumored female lead character will be. I've just about written off anything that DC is capable of movie-wise.

I thought it was pretty good.  Batista can't deliver lines for shit.  Pratt was okay but his character was all over the place.  Saldana was pretty decent, she's done action movies before but her lines were a bit dry too.  Diesel was pretty spot on, Groot was the best written character in the movie.  Cooper delivered his lines great, but it's not until closer to the end that you can actually appreciate his attitude.

That said, the movie was fun as hell.  The jokes would have put me on the floor if I was at home.  The black light joke, pelvic sorcery joke... the movie was absolutely hilarious and everything I'd expect.  The rest is spoilers so I'm not going to ruin it.

Oh, the 'bitch' comment closer to the end seemed poorly delivered and completely unnecessary.  They were just cussing to cuss at that point.
