APPEARANCE
Casey is a good-looking, athletic young woman with green eyes and long blonde hair. When she's not wearing her school uniform, she typically wears flannel shirts, loose-cut jeans and light hiking boots, though she also favors T-shirts, khaki cargo shorts and Teva sandals in season. Casey still wears her old glasses, even though she no longer needs them; she feels they help to maintain her 'ordinary girl' cover, plus she just really likes the way they look on her!

PERSONALITY
Casey is thoughtful and introspective, sometimes bordering on introverted; she makes friends easily enough, but she prefers a small circle of good friends to a large one filled with casual acquaintances. She takes her studies very seriously, and dreams of being a reporter for the Miami Herald someday, just like her grandfather. Casey tries to tell the truth at all times, but understands that a secret identity does require the occasional 'white lie', as much as it pains her.

Outside of journalism, her interests include almost any sort of outdoor activity (hiking, camping, skiing and white-water rafting are among her favorites), as well as reading, playing board games and shopping with friends. Casey has also loved aviation since she was a little girl, something her pilot father instilled in her; even though she can now fly under her own power, she still hopes to earn her pilot's license someday.

BACKGROUND
Up until recently, Casey only knew her dad as Colonel Steve Blankenship of the US Air Force, who worked for NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain; she had no idea that her father was actually Vigilant ('America's First Line of Defense!') and would probably have never found out, due to concerns over national security. Her and her mother live in Colorado Springs, where she attended the Air Academy High School before transferring to the Alabaster Academy. It was during a weekend trip to North Cheyenne Cañon Park with friends that her powers first developed; the car they were in slipped off the road and would have plunged the four teens to their deaths if Casey hadn't flown them all to safety.

After the incident, the four youths were taken to a secret facility near the air base where it was explained to them who Casey's father was and how important it was that his identity be kept a secret; Casey's friends promised not to tell anyone, but sadly protocol required a partial mindwipe. As a result, her friends no longer remember the details of her friendship, and Casey lost the love of her boyfriend as well; the loss was devastating, and she holds her father largely responsible (though she holds onto a nugget of guilt herself).

Now at a new school with no friends, Casey is bravely trying to make a new start; perhaps there's an opening on the school paper...

COMPLICATIONS
Motivation: Doing Good. Casey is young and idealistic, and wishes to use her newfound powers to make the world a better place.

"Yeah, he's my dad...": Casey's father is Col. Steve Blankenship, aka Vigilant, 'America's First Line of Defense'. It's not quite as cool as it sounds.

Rival: Vicki Van Statten is the illegitimate daughter of Vigilant and the super-genius known as The Analyst, a half-sister Casey never knew she had before coming to the Academy. They do not get along very well.

Hikialani Mizuki
PL: 8 (120)
Hero Points: 1
Exp: 0

Description

Kia is amazingly cute, in the way that only teenage asian girls can really pull off. With an adorable pixie-grin atop a body forged by constant activity and athleticism, and shaped by a subtle and pervasive self-sculpting ability, it's hard to resist her charms. Beyond that, her appearance can be variable in its specifics. Her natural form appears to be rather short and petite in build, but she can adjust her size in increments up to nearly ten feet tall and bulging with hyper-exaggerated muscles. Oddly, smaller and more superficial alterations like hair color and features seem to require more fine control than she has. At least so far.

,,

PIC

33x7m3d.jpg

,,

Personality

Hikialani is irrepressibly sunny and optimistic in outlook. She recognizes the limitations of herself and others, but rarely lets setbacks get her down and never for very long. Kia is highly empathic towards others and tries to consider their viewpoints before judging them. She can sometimes seem 'overly' nice, or indecisive because of this. Her demeanor is usually either calm and pleasant, or excited and exuberant. In her goal to make everyone happy, Kia sometimes has problems when people need or want things that directly conflict with one another, as well as with people who for wholly inexplicable reasons (to her) seem to dislike her no matter what she does.

,,

Complications

Redacted - You're not Cleared for that. ,,

Immortality Side Effect: Memory Loss - Every cell of Kia's body contains the potential to grow...with time and opportunity...into a new body. To destroy her entirely would require there to be nothing left. However, while her body can regrow, the aspects of it that are shaped by experience are not preserved. If her brain is damaged or destroyed, her memories cannot regenerate even though her brain can. The extent of the memory loss is based on the extent of the damage to her brain either leading to death, or after death but prior to regeneration. To be gunned down by a bullet to the heart might cost her very little. Should her head be crushed, there would be significant loss. If it's burned to a crisp the loss is all but total. In game terms, should the circumstances of a 'death' be so dictated by the GM, Kia loses skill points and potentially Advantage points that represent learned abilities. These points can be re-spent as she learns things anew...potentially very different things than she started with.

,,

Concealment Side Effect: Clothes- Kia's Concealment represents the ability to rapidly change the color and pattern of her skin, to match her surroundings. Clothing interferes with this effect, potentially reducing it to Partial Concealment, or even negating it altogether, depending on what she's wearing. Similarly, many of her powers involve extra limbs or dramatic changes in size and proportion. As such, she's hard on clothes, and will be fixing or replacing uniforms a lot. She despises restrictive clothing that covers her entire body and takes more than a minute or two to get out of for this reason.

,,

Motivation - Curiosity: Kia loves to explore and find new things. This applies not only to the physical world, but to people as well. At it's best it makes her outgoing and daring. However, it also means she can be nosy and reckless, especially when she feels there's a mystery afoot. To those who know the truth of her past, she has a worrying interest in the details of people's personal lives, though she has yet to do anything with what she learns.

,,

Background

Hikialani's father, Sho Mizuki, is a vulcanologist; a man who studies volcanos. After spending much of his life bouncing between islands in the Pacific, hunting for patterns in volcanic activity and inactivity in the Ring of Fire, he finally found something that inspired more passion in him than mountains spewing flame. Ipolani, who was a microbiologist working on a project studying bacteria strains that grew around underwater volcanic vents. In the course of their studies, both of the Mizukis made the aquaintence of and then became friends with a man named William Fortnight as well as some other parahuman beings of William's circle and who were working closely on the project.

,,

They became the adopted parent of Hikialani, who came to them as an infant...the adoption expedited by William's resources as a favor. They've been honest about this with Kia, and she's come to terms with her adoption quite some time ago.

,,

Indeed, the biggest dramas in her life up until recently has been her occasional temptation to use her powers to show up Gwen Bexley, who's apparently decided that the best way to become captain of the cheerleading squad is to knock Kia down a peg, even though Kia doesn't even want to be captain, and maybe her maybe-sorta boyfriend Brian Halder...which was a minor scandal in Kia's largely-native neighborhood because she was dating a haole boy. Of course, it was largely a good-natured scandal (except for one or two really annoying families that Kia didn't care about anyway). And ever since she told her BFF Ellen about some of her powers, her friend managed to convince her to drop off the swim team because it wasn't fair. And Kia had to admit, she had a point...but it was still a bummer.

,,

With more time on her hands though, Kia was starting to poke around cautiously into her vague notions of becoming a marine biologist...when Sho and Ipo introduced her to William Fortnight, and told her there was a change of plans.

,,

People In her Life

Sho Mizuki - Father; A good-natured, affable man who is a little uncomfortable around people he doesn't know well. This discomfort manifests as him either being excessively eager to please (if he is not in a position of authority), or much sterner and somewhat demanding (if he is). These personality traits can emerge any time he's not feeling on top of a situation, or is otherwise insecure for some reason. He loves Kia very much, and is inclined to spoil her, when Ipo isn't looking. ,,

Ipo Mizuki - Mother; Ipo's word is the law in the household. She keeps the discipline, and her level head and eye for detail keep things running smoothly. While she loves Sho's artistic side and encourages Kia's creative pursuits as well, Ipo is someone who believes in rules...it's hard to work with dangerous micro-organisms and not understand the importance of regulations. While she is gentle, she is also very firm...allowing questioning, but not dissent. She has worked most closely with William as well, and is much more 'involved' with the larger community of parahumans and parascience than Sho; who is largely content to study his volcanos away from such concerns.

,,

Brian Halder - Boyfriend(?); Brian is on the swim team, and asked Kia out about a month before she quit. They've been on three dates so far. Kia's still not entirely sure she really like likes him...they don't share many interests besides their athletic pursuits...but he's cute, and he seems into her, and it's kind of cool to have a boyfriend, so she's still dating him. Ellen think she can do better, though doesn't have any specific criticisms of Brian in particular other than he's just kind of...not all that interesting. Kia leaving the swim team created a certain...not quite tension, but an undercurrent of discomfort that's crept in as Brian worries she quit because of him, but hasn't quite worked up the courage to ask her yet.

,,

Ellen Kameka - Best Friend; Ellen's another native Hawaiian who lives next door to the Mizukis and has known Kia pretty much since forever. They have similar temperaments, though Ellen is more prone to anger and has a rebellious streak that sometimes gets her, and Kia, into trouble. She also is apparently entirely without fear, and loves nothing more than standing up to bullies or anyone else that, in her opinions, needs 'standing-up-to.' Ellen has a convoluted personal code when it comes to honesty. She'll lie freely (and gleefully) to trick someone or try to get them to do what she wants, but she won't lie to protect herself or gain an advantage over someone. It was this 'code' that prompted her to encourage Kia to quit the swim team when she found out Kia could breathe underwater...not because of any rules that might be broken, but because it made the whole exercise hollow; a sham. In her mind, the swim team only had value if it was challenging Kia and making her grow. Otherwise it was just Kia performing like a dolphin at Sea World...showing off so people would throw her rewards. Kia is not sure she agrees with that line of reasoning, but acknowledged it wasn't really fair, and quit the team.

,,

Gwen Bexley - Frenemy; A girl from a British family living on the island, Gwen is a talented and ambitious girl, who attacks her problems head on. She got quite a bit of notoriety...good with some, bad with others...in her first week at school when she marched right up to a table where some of the native kids were sniggering about her, and called them out. Gwen's someone who knows what she wants, and lines people up in her head based on if they're able to A) Help her/not get in the way, or B ) Get in her way. She actually calls people 'category a' and 'category b,' in fact. Not much for deviousness or false friendships, Gwen much prefers for the Category Bs to know who they are, and to understand that their options are to get out of the way, or to be gotten out of the way.

Personal Information:
Identity: Olivia Sashi Jenings-Izumi
Hero Identity: Datastream
Nicknames: Livy
Occupation: Student/Host to Alien Database
Marital Status: Single
Known Relatives: Haruo (Harry) Izumi (father); Delayha Jenings-Izumi (mother), Wakaki Izumi (half-brother)
Allegiance(s): family

Physical Traits:
Weight: 122 lbs
Height: 5’6”
Apparent age: mid teens
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Black
Handedness: Right

Appearance: Livy is cute, with dark skin and a hint of almond-shaped eyes. She has a narrow face with large eyes, wide nose and full lips. Her long black hair has her father’s straightness which her mother envies. Dancing lessons have left her in decent physical shape. She’s reached her full height of 5’6”.

Skills and Personality
Abilities/Special Skills: Livy has some skill at dancing and singing, enough that she aspires to do something with her life involving both. She’s not quite good enough to ever make it big but she can still have a mediocre music/dance career, based on her current skills. Without Ganiax, she has some knowledge of history, thanks to her father’s lectures on his favorite topic, as well as art and science. She has always been a smart kid but she’s not super-smart, even now. She just remembers everything she perceives.
Powers
The Receiver – With Ganiax, Livy has senses that see further and better. No one is quite sure how they work, beyond the fact that Livy/Ganiax somehow interact with quantum strings.
The Database – She also has a database in her head of everything she’s seen and sensed while with Ganiax, in addition to the information she had in her head when Ganiax joined with her. There is a delay for her to ‘connect’ to the Database and it’s so vast she can’t focus on more than a small portion of it at a time.
Boson-Fermion Shield – Livy can manipulate quantum strings on an instinctive level to create a defensive shield. As humans can’t see the particles she’s changing, her shields are difficult to perceive. They can cause a visual warping effect that is noticeable to the perceptive.
Boson-Fermion Blast – A blast of quantum particles strikes at a range; can affect partially phased creatures (insubstantial). The blast is difficult to see with the human eye.
Boson-Fermion Bomb – An area blast of quantum particles Livy can project from her own body; can affect partially phased creatures (insubstantial). The bomb is difficult to see with the human eye.
Boson-Fermion Manipulation – Quantum particles can disrupt and affect targets; can affect partially phased creatures (insubstantial). The manipulation is difficult to see with the human eye.
Boson-Fermion Warp – Quantum particles can disorient and knock out opponents; can affect partially phased creatures (insubstantial). The attack is difficult to see with the human eye.

Personality: Livy has a bright and cheerful personality. She’s prone to moodiness since her kidnapping and grafting with Ganiax. She is an optimist by nature, and willing to please figures of authority so long as they behave in a moral manner. When they do show themselves to be in the wrong, she will disobey them. She doesn’t like conflict and is unlikely to cause conflict without a very good reason. She’s loyal and faithful to those who have her allegiances. She’s flexible and open-minded toward types of people not like herself but she expects the same in return – and can actually become angry if she doesn’t get it. She’s something of an idealist and easily disappointed in the world and others who don’t match her ideals.

Background
Olivia was born to an odd couple, Haruo and Delayha. Delayha was studying abroad in Japan; he was her history professor and a married man living in Tokyo with a year-old son. They kept their relationship professional almost to the end, but a night climbing Fuji together caused them to click. Their affair destroyed Haruo’s marriage, not the least because Haruo was hopelessly in love. He felt guilt toward his wife and son but Delayha was the woman for him.

Delayha returned to the States while Haruo finished his divorce. He joined her, got a job in Berkeley, took the American name Harry, and married her. Two years later, Olivia was born. This was the little girl that Delayha had always wanted, and Harry’s son was still being kept away by his bitter wife, so they both spoiled her. Wakiki was finally able to visit when Olivia was six; the two slowly bonded and became friends.

Livy grew up happy in the middle class in an educated, liberal house in Berkeley. Family vacations were spent on charity trips around the world, helping the less privileged. Family discussions at the dinner table focused on the impact history had on the modern world. If Livy showed interest in a hobby or art, she was indulged and encouraged. When she wanted dance lessons and voice lessons, she got them.

At age fifteen, Olivia and her mother went into Oakland to work on a Habitat for Humanity building. It was in a bad part of town, but they’d done this before and neither had any worries. While at the site, an ex-boyfriend of one of the volunteers showed up and tried to shoot her. In the confusion, Olivia was separated from her mother and grabbed by someone.

That someone turned out to be cyborg henchmen working for Free Radicals, a group of mad scientists. The FR typically took jobs for other villains, allowing them to outsource their expensive testing and R&D. This particular job had been set forth by Viper: to test a piece of unknown technology recovered from the edge of the Mariana Trench. As per their normal protocol, the Free Radicals sent out cyborgs to collect a poor minority child from the ghetto. The cyborgs are great grunts but lack higher thought processes and failed to realize that the girl they targeted and grabbed was dressed too nicely and was too well-spoken to be an appropriate target. Though angered and worried that people were actually looking for her, they proceeded with the testing.

Livy was exposed to the artifact, which entered her body through her mouth, made a small incision in the back of her throat, crawled through and wrapped itself around her brain stem and spinal cord. Then nothing appeared to happen and the Free Radicals shrugged and reported to Viper. The Congolese warlord ordered them to retrieve the device from the test subject.

Fortunately, the Ganiax came fully on-line before they started brain surgery. A powerful recording device, the Ganiax also has offensive and defensive powers. It uses quantum strings to store the data and gives Livy the ability to manipulate quantum strings in her area. She escaped from Free Radicals’s undersea laboratory just south of the Channel Islands only hours after Ganiax powered up to full capacity. She was picked up by the Coast Guard; by the time authorities had gotten back to the Free Radical’s base, it had been torched and abandoned. All Livy could tell them was the fake names they’d used with her: Fox, Wave, and Lanthanide.

Olivia returned home but remained under government supervision. She was compiling dangerous amounts of information and didn’t know how to stop it. She could become a threat to national security – quickly.

Dramatis Personae
The Free Radicals – They’re thought to be a massive group of scientists teamed together but the Free Radicals are actually three brothers. Forest, William, and Leonard Wan are the sons of a Chinese-American/Korean-American family. The three are all card-carrying members of MENSA, and each have a doctorate in a different field of science (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry). By day, they run an international testing facility – where big companies, mostly pharmaceuticals – pay them to do the testing that is required by the FDA through an outside source. By night, they do the same thing for criminal groups, only as Fox, Wave, and Lanthanide.

The Ganiax – This alien artifact came to earth in the time of the dinosaurs. A quantum piece of nanotech, it defies most attempts to analyze it with the modern machinery available. Over the years, it has taken many hosts but they weren’t smart enough to sustain its primary function. The device is designed to gather as much information about a world as possible; once the inhabitants reach a certain technology level, Ganiax will report to its creators. That is a hidden triggered program that hosts are not allowed to know about. [OOC: The appropriate level of technology is up to the ST.]

Viper
Kambale Buseyne was your average Congolese warlord until he wandered into a radiation zone. The man that came out was different – better. He forged a new identity and went to England, where he enrolled in Cambridge in a business degree. Four years later he returned to Congo, took over his warband and turned them into an army. Taking the name Viper, he’s since become a force to fear on the African Continent. He found the Ganiax through an expedition to the Marianas Trench, searching for a lost slaving ship. He contracted with the Free Radicals to get it tested and has been most displeased by their service. He knows of Olivia, and he’s looking for more information on her.

Alexis Randall mostly grew up a normal kid from San Fransisco, California. Fun loving, nice, a decent normal kid, Least until three months ago. One night she woke up and found that she was glowing. Over the next couple days she kept on glowing on and off, unsuccessfully hiding it from her parents. That's when her grandpa Andy dropped a bombshell on her. See, back during WW2, he was a test subject for a government super solider project. While the project didn't do much beyond make him stronger and healthier (the dude looks pretty good considering his age) and nothing happened to her mothers and her siblings, it seems that powers are starting to manifest in the grandkids.

Now she is heading Alabaster Academy to get a handle on her new abilities
