(AoH)Anderson Manor or Damn, this place is huge [Fic]

When Cassandra was looking for a place to move in in Bay City she never dreamed of ending up in Anderson Manor. The place was... HUGE – with capital letters and it was all thanks to this coincidential encounter at the library that resulted in her meeting Kamiko Anderson... the owner of the place.

Kamiko was a Millionaire. Multi-Millionaire to be precise while Cassandra lived of the stipend she got from the Circle of the Arcane. Officially she was studying Archaelogy and English Literature but that was far from the truth. Cassandra was a Witch – probably the least talented Witch to have ever graced the halls of the Arcanum.

Still she was lucky – the only ‘quality’ she possessed. Cassandra would’ve stumbled into a puddle of mud just to avoid being shot at – such was her luck. Meeting Kamiko was one of those incidents which could only be explained with her uncanny luck.

Cassandra still couldn’t believe her luck. Unlike those who observed her she was still amazed each time Fortuna blessed her. Her room was huge, like everything in Anderson Manor. Actually she had much more than just her room – she had her own bathroom, a seperate room for her bed and access to a balcony which granted her a beautiful view over the garden of the whole estate.

The place did overwhelm her sometimes. She didn’t have nearly as many clothes to fill the huge closets and wardrobes – it made her feel small and even insignificant sometimes but she tried to enjoy it as good as she could. After all Kamiko was more than nice to her – she soon turned into a real friend and didn’t loom over her with her wealth and education.

Kamiko had invited her for dinner tonight and Cassandra happily obliged. Cassandra was dressed in a simple skirt and long sleeved snuggly pullover which hid her lack of curves. She had put her hair in a pony tail and nervously played with the necklace which she never took off until Kamiko arrived. The young woman always seemed to be busy with something.

Kamiko was unassuming of most people in life.

Not everyone was a hard-bitten criminal or someone running from their past. Nor some missing heiress who was trying to live a "normal life" among the 99%. Most people lived their life day to day. Among the mass that is Humanity on this planet orbiting a unassuming star in a unassuming section of a rather average Galaxy...

At least that is the usual train of thought that Kamiko has. When Aliens land on your planet and Superheroes appear around the same time you tend to think a little like Carl Sagan on matters more lofty than tonight's meal.

Then again, Cassandra was someone that seemed to move probability.

Perhaps...

Kamiko walked into the foyer where they would meet. She was going to have Cassie receive a well presented meal. There was a little help, and they didn't get the chance to actually serve a meal like a proper mansion and it's staff. Usually Kamiko made her own meals and let the staff at the very least keep up appearances in the main portion of the Manor.

That and dusting off the uniforms was a minor annoyance. Kamiko didn't like it either with her usual casual dress-code. A product of her Parent's upbringing.

"Cassie! Good, you're here."

Kamiko was wearing something that made her look like some odd product of a victorian era... well, except for the fact she was wearing a white blouse with a copper-red waistcoat and dark brown, almost black slacks. She had her hair up in a single bun and her red, ample cravat suggested she was in one of her "moods".

See, Kamiko has these phases, sometimes she dresses anachronistically, looking like some sort of steampunk convention was in town. Other times she wears a sleek number that would make any cyberpunk era infiltrator blush. Kamiko was dynamic.

Today, she was full-on "Charta Domina, Mistress of Paper."

"Well, hopefully tonight we won't be interrupted by some crisis."

“Crisis?”, Cassandra asked already a forkful of food shoved in her mouth. Unlike Kamiko Cassie had no idea about etiquette and it showed here and there. She slowly realized it was impolite to start and speaking with her mouth full but the question struck her by surprise.

What crisis? She brushed with her free hand absentmindedly over the necklace she wore which harnessed the incredible powers of the Shemhazai feeling anxiety arise at the prospect of transforming into Chance.

And then she blushed feeling ashamed all of a sudden. A crisis was a bad thing but all she could think of was getting another opportunity to transform and revell in her powers.

“I mean... is there a reason to be concerned? You look like you’re ready to bust into action...”, only now Cassandra realized that Kamiko was almost in uniform and why would she dress up like that if she didn’t expect trouble.

“I thought we were just having lunch.”, the young witch commented not quiet sure if Kamiko had mentioned anything earlier and she simply forgot... which unfortunately wasn’t such a rare thing. Cassandra’s thoughts were a mess and it was difficult to cut throuh to her and make her remember things. Most of the time she was fighting off the constant tempting and whispering voices which spoke to her from the necklace and usually she had little trouble ignoring it, although the longer she refused to transform the harder it became... or maybe it was her imagination?

Anyway – the slightest indication that she could be Chance again was enough to focus her attention to the matter at hand. “Don’t tell me you’re going on patrols or something like that?”
