Just as a note: we're not talking invites. Anyone can submit a character, which will be considered based on:

1. the concept

2. the PC's backstory and it's match to the concept and the build

3. how well the build matches said concept and backstory

4. the overall mesh or lack of with the world created (which I will post before I accept full submissions)

,,

5. number of slots open.

All of them will be assessed based on those criteria, in roughly that order.

Concept would be 'Matter man'. I have him created up in abby, just need to port him over.

Basically, a very bright tween, coasted through public school and then went to Cambridge. Once there, the classes were a little tougher, but not enough to challenge him. One day while he was bored, he discovered that he could manipulate stuff physically. Being of a science background, he preformed his own tests and discovered that he could manipulate, create, (and possibly even transmute parts of his body into) any matter that he could think of.

So what did he do with his new found powers? He went to Vegas. Well, not Vegas, not yet, but he has hit up just about every casino in London. He hit them up using his power subtly to change the odds in his favor. Is he greedy, yes. But, being as bright as he is, he knows that the less he uses his powers, the longer he'll be able to bleed London dry.

Abby powers were matter creation, molecular manipulation, and possibly matter chameleon (depends how the concept and numbers port). He had almost as many points put into atts and skills as he did powers. Any help porting would be appreciated.

Sounds good carver, thanks.

In order to come up with a decent submission, I could use a few details about the world. Would people know that vampires exist or would it be like the real world, tons of movies and books about them, but no one really believes in them? Or would it be a True Blood kind of setting where people do know that they are real? I'd prefer the first type... Either way I would assume that vampires would be pretty rare?

She did say that, didn't she? Well, since I don't know 'the best' school in England (or around London), he could be a Brit that went to MIT and is took a break at Vegas before heading home on summer break...

... just an idea. MIT is an international school after all.

Let me work on that. I have it in my head, just need some more details. I'll try to have it up soon.

For now you can assume that these things are known of, but are rare. The norms know that these things are around, but don't know much about them or where they come from.

Darkling

Also Known As: The Lord of Night, Night Lord, Prince of Daemons,

Background

The Ridleys were black magicians in the latter decades of the millenium, members of a Millenialist cult whose stated goals were to bring the rule of darkness to the world, to let the strong ascend over the weak and do as they pleased.

Unlike many of the cultists, rich, bored thrill-seekers who saw the sect as an excuse to have depraved orgies and take copious amounts of drugs, the Ridley's actually DID possess some mystical powers. Moreover, they were the driving force of the cult, manipulating the ostensible leader as a figurehead. Behind the scenes, unknown to all but a select few of the cult's membership who also had some small magical talent, the real work of the cult was being carried out.

That work was Tomas, the child of the two magicians.

The Ridleys had conceived and borne a son for one reason: to offer up as a sacrifice to the nameless forces of darkness they served. From the first moment he opened his eyes, the boy endured torments designed to twist and warp his spirit without breaking it. His innocence, twisted and perverted through the acts of his own parents and without any choice of his own, would be the perfect offering to their Masters.

Finally the night came, the eve of the 31st of December, 1999. As the world celebrated the New Year, the desecrated London church that served as the cult's center of worship saw the final, unspeakable ritual that would bring about the end of civilisation and the rise of a new dark age. Tomas, then fifteen years old, underwent a grueling and twisted gauntlet of torment and depravity that left him broken and bleeding on the altar. His own father held him to the stone as his mother sliced the veins in his hands and wrists, letting him slowly bleed to death.

If only the Ridleys actually knew something of what they served.

The dark, chaotic forces they touted as their masters and sung the praises of cared nothing for the goals of these curious, fleshly creatures. They regarded the whole affair as a farce for their amusement, and bore about as much in common with the Biblical Satan as a shark does with a fish.

But as they looked at the dying child and felt the flickering, guttering flame of his spirit fighting to stay alive, fighting for existence even in the face of the malevolent cruelty of the world, these forces were... well, not moved. Nothing even akin to compassion existed there in the eternal darkness that was their essence.

No, they were intrigued.

The child's soul fell towards them, bright and dark, unsullied through his own deeds yet warped so maliciously that, if he had lived, he would have only known the heart's language of pain and depravity. The entities reached out towards it, not to consume, but to speak for the first time in eons with a lower being.

Tomas heard voices there, voices and shapes that took him by the hand as he lay surrounded by the numbing darkness. He realised that this wasn't merely the darkness of death - it was the sum total of all that was dark, chaotic, selfish, and wicked in the universe. It was, for all intents and purposes Hell. All hells, everywhere. All horror, all pain, all cruel lust and evil desires had their primodial origin here. It/they called themselves the Void. And they offered him a deal, offered to make him something like them, but lesser. They wanted to see what would happen if they gave him a fraction of their power to command. Revenge. Power. Satisfaction. And all he had to do... was make a conscious choice to embrace the Void

He came back. From the dead, from that dark place, his soul rising from the cthonic depths with servants in tow, servants that burst from every shadow, every patch of darkness in the candle-lit church. Hissing, screaming Giger-esque nightmares that tore apart his parents and their debauched followers as slowly as possible. Showered with their blood and entrails as they were suspended in the air above him, Tomas watched and laughed, his voice sweetly musical in their ears as they watched their own bodies being rent asunder.

Tomas' supervillain debut came before the blood of his parents and their friends had even cooled. His nightmarish horde of daemons billowed forth into the London night as the great city was celebrating the birth of it's new millenium. Fuelled by their master's rage, pain and hatred the Tenebrae rampaged as Darkling walked towards the brightly-lit center of London, the hellish creatures he had unleashed frolicking around him killing indiscriminately. Small groups of villains and heroes alike, alarmed for different reasons at the sudden attack, united forces to stop him and, after a huge battle, succeeded in fighting through the dark legions to strike down the boy who had called them. The Tenebrae that survived retreated, diving into shadows and fading from the world of Men. After ensuring that no more of the monsters remained, the warily-united force of heroes and villains sought the body of the green-eyed fiend who had unleashed such terror.

It was nowhere to be found.

A couple of years later, Tomas surfaced in New York, working as a go-between and negotiator between the criminal gangs there. By the end of the first decade of the millenium, the once-boy had used his improved understanding of people to get close to those who thought that they ruled the shadows of the world. He started slowly, not rushing, apparently content to make a good living as a go-between, negotiator and middle-man for the major crime syndicates. At the same time, as Darkling, he arranged for people his clients found troublesome to disappear. Those who used his services in either capacity seldom had any cause to complain. They should have perhaps looked closer in the gift horse's mouth, though. It contained fangs.

Lots of fangs.

In 2034 Darkling returned home to London, having left behind him in New York three decades of fomenting an ever-spiralling cycle of gang warfare, distrust and corruption, his predominantly behind-the-scenes efforts turning that once great city into a sinkhole of violence, drug abuse, prostitution and despair more suited to a Third World slum town. Back in London now, he insinuated himself into the Covenant, apparently disinterested in ruling the loose collection of villains, instead content to throw his support behind one leader or another as time went on. It is well-known that he supported Bathsheba in her bid for power, enabling one of the smoothest coups in Covenant history simply because so many of the lower-tier villains definitely did not want to draw the Night Lord's attention. There are whispers that the two are on-off lovers, but none really want to pry too deeply, since neither the werelioness nor the demon prince are known for being congenial.

Darkling's relations with the villain underworld in general are strained. He is well know to suffer no restriction or sense of proportion on how far he will take retribution for slights. Stonegazer, Professor Infinity and the villain who called himself Nightlord (an unwise move: Tomas took it as a challenge and has since adopted the title for himself) can all attest to this, since all three villains, and their various henchmen, and any family members Darkling could locate, have been carried off into the Void after crossing him to varying degrees. Professor Infinity's fate was sealed in full view of others at one of McDonnell's parties after scoffing at the 'ridiculous' notion of the existence of Evil as an anthropomorphic force and dismissing Darkling as an 'interesting conundrum, but ultimately irrelevant in the greater scientific scheme of things'. After he was dragged of into the shadows by a few Tenebrae, the other guests at the party could clearly hear his outraged shouts turn into terrified screams before Darkling, with a wave of his hand, closed the chill-emanating portal to the Void, then turned and apologised to his host.

McDonnell and he are in regular contact, Darkling being a regular attendee at the Father's parties as well as a frequent partner in enterprise and bed both. Likewise, the Daemon Prince and the Fae Lord Nuada have an oddly cordial relationship, each seeing the other as a part of the order of the universe, and each seeing humanity as a blight on the world. They tend to see eye to eye more often than not. Katana, dealing as he does with high-tech and street-level crime, has very little to do with Darkling, and is incredibly wary of any contact: the savvy criminal is well aware of the effect Tomas had on the New York crime syndicates, turning them into splintered, ineffectual gangs of thugs living in a warzone. War is bad for business if you're the one involved in it, and Katana is all about the business of crime.

Goals

Spreading chaos, corruption and wickedness, pure and simple. A modern-day daemon prince, Darkling truly despises and hates humanity. For every indignity he has suffered, humankind shall bleed oceans. For every insult heaped on him, there will be an atrocity so terrible as to make strong men pale. Being young for a daemon, Darkling hasn't yet truly decided whether he wants to wipe out humankind or make them slaves for his amusement. One day, he dreams of watching the whole world die screaming, the next he fantasises about humanity living in degradation and filth whilst their rightful masters (read: him and his allies) have the best of everything.

For now, he contents himself with destroying them one at a time, in whatever manner satisfies his cruel sense of irony.

Personality
Capricious, malicious, and vicious... also magically delicious. As his fluctuating goals would indicate, Darkling is a shifting and chaotic creature. Being a corporeal embodiment of primordial Evil has it's drawbacks, though that is probably for the best from the point of view of the rest of the cosmos. He is utterly fearless, and completely malevolent to those that draw his ire or disdain.

Capabilities
Tomas' power stems from his connection to the Void, the font of all that is Evil in Creation.

Being an avatar of this Void allows the Daemon Prince to call forth horrors or darkly wonderous creatures. He can enshroud an area in whispering, hissing darkness or simply step into the Void itself and disappear, travelling through it to reappear elsewhere. All of the conjurations require a few drops of his own blood to give them life and shape.

Full Concept: Mel "Bloodmoney" Grimson

Short Version: Amoral Mercenary

Long Version- Background

Deadshot1.jpg

In the year 2008, the iron killer that was Mel Grimson was born to poor white parents, Matthew Grimson and Melicia Grimson in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. This area, losing the strength of gentrification to a falling economy, soon became the battleground that would forge a deadly weapon of a man.

Matthew Grimson was a local mob enforcer, anti-Semitic,quick and harsh with his hand and words at times, but the family held belligerently together. Matthew determinedly molded Mel's childhood to have a son in his own image. His maxim of fortitude and ruthlessness Mel has carried for the rest of his life: "It's a damn hard world. Do whatever you gotta do to survive and smash the bastards. Don't fuck a woman if she doesn't want you to though. That's a coward's way." Mel took to it and soon started smashing doors and shaking up the stingy with his father, with a certainty and zeal that even shocked his father.

In the course of growing into his twenties, Mel began traveling the country as a free-moving criminal of amazing skill on the orders of his bosses. Eventually, he met an older woman, widowed Cecilia Janet, and surprisingly, the two fall in love, they lived together in New York City as companions. She never questioned his work, and she was the one genuine thing that he demonstrated positive caring for.

Otherwise, he was a dark and dangerous man not caught by police.

On January 21, 2037, Mel received word that two low-rent thugs whose friend was killed by him were searching for him, vengeance on their minds. Mel went into brief hiding, easily leading the mooks through a long investigation, but they discovered his home and not finding him there, turned their wrath on Cecilia.

Mel returned to find her horribly wounded body, and the police were only concerned with getting the killers because of the brutality. In the end, Mel had a vicious carthasis, deciding that he survived, and now, survival and success was all that matter. Nothing more, nothing less.

Choosing to dump the baggage of his criminal career for practical reasons, he somehow left the mob and yet, finding his best and most thrilling talents was killing people, picked up the legitimate killer for hire route, as a mercenary for various companies. He became an elite one-man army. Acquiring a dossier, because he soon became privy to many less than legitimate actions by governments and corporations in the process of his missions.

Soon, he ended up using the strings he could pull to become independent again, setting up a secret underground base in London and a costumed guise, Bloodmoney. A special mercenary, taking all sorts of missions for those who could pay, dirty and dangerous. To make himself capable of battling superheroes, he used his proceeds to finance a massive regimen of implants and steroid use to permanently boost his physical levels to beyond human.

His activities drew the attention of superheroes, but it was the exiled alien royal prince of Samsarra, Solar, who chose to bring him fully into the super-world as the highly honor-obsessed Samsarran considered him particularly reprehensible as a villain and man for hire.

However, the superhero was defeated in a close battle in 2046, which left badly Solar injured and unconscious. The prideful alien prince would not accept this defeat, and the two have gone on to engage in a series of fights that though have not caused the kind of casualties associated with Katana or Monster, have been marked by a notable disregard for bystanders or the surroundings.

In 2048, Bloodmoney raided Oxford University, making with a selection of recently discovered magical lore texts and leaving behind the bodies of several staff and security. He has repeatedly attacked and sabotaged Eumonic Corporation sites and activities as a challenge to heroes. And in 'quieter' times, he picks off gang leaders, crime bosses and politicians for Father McDonnell and other various employers or of his own volition.

Hero/Villain Relationships

Aside from the repeated battles with Solar, Bloodmoney has notable links to certain other supers:

Katana & Simon Angel: A good customer of Katana, Bloodmoney has naturally had more than one deal busted by Simon Angel, incidents where the mercenary makes a tactical withdrawal.

Monster: Also, though this is not known beyond the two of them, Monster's Labyrinth and Bloodmoney's Underground Fort are fairly close to each other, and the two have a truce based on respecting each others boundaries.

Father McDonnell: The ex-priest has hired Bloodmoney in the past to eliminate people who pose problems for him, and gives the merc an occasional invite to his parties.

Goals

Bloodmoney no longer works for hire, taking dangerous and highly illegal missions for the adrenaline rush and challenge. Any for hire missions now require high-tech devices or similar super-powered products/services for payment. Additionally, secretly worried about his loosing his edge through aging, he is searching for a way to stop his aging.

Abilities

Through his years of training, steroid use and acquisition of special implants, Bloodmoney has possesses superhuman physical abilities and near-peak human reaction times, and is skilled in many areas including tactics. He is an impressively able and powerful melee and ranged fighter, and possesses an array of weaponry and devices aid in his mobility, escapes and leveling the battlefield in his favor.

Personality

Bloodmoney is a cynical, jaded man, completely unfazed by the depths or many examples of human vice and faults. He is strong-willed and unwilling to let pain or suffering take over or distract him from his current objective. He is practically fearless, though he knows when he is outmatched. In exactly four words, an amoral sociopathic mercenary.

Mod-pistol:

The mod-pistol is little more than a specialized pistol given the penetrating and damaging force of a shotgun, but it is handy enough. Bloodmoney acquired this from Katana in 2047, and managed to escape with it after Simon Angel arrived on the scene and provoked another round of street warfare.

The Underground Fort

Hidden beneath the city of London, stationed to provide equal access to the Arcology and the suburbs, the Underground Fort is Bloodmoney's complete base of operations, established with years of favors called in and money, kept very, very secret. Aside from its secrecy, the place is well defended by security systems and special weapons. Grimson has various sections devoted to power, a communication center and more, and generally lives there much of the time. However, it is about the size of a warehouse, and hence is effectively grungy and crowded with stuff.

Part of the reason it took so long to construct, was that Bloodmoney chose to find the perfect crew for setting it up. A assorted bunch of skilled criminals were brought into a 'gang' and Grimson, the 'boss', had them build their hideout in the intact fraction of an otherwise abandoned and ruined underground transit station buried over by the development of the Arcology. After completion, Grimson 'corporeally retired' his associates, ensuring the secrecy of his hideout.

The base is carefully and clandestinely wired into the electrical and communications grid, and the access points are defended by automated sentry guns.

Eumonic Corporation

A corporation specializing in various fields of high-tech development, it was founded by a former partner of Lucas Gadtree who benefited greatly from the mastermind's will. Though they work on devices of the utmost importance and power, at times their security has proved incapable of preventing attacks or thefts, as Bloodmoney can attest. Their buildings have also been a favored punching bag of Nuada.

(Think LexCorp, except it actually isn't run by a supervillain.)

For those of you more versed in M&M than I, I'm trying to find powers that will match (as closely as possible) Matter Creation, Matter Chameleon, and Molecular Manipulation.

How does this list sound?

Matter Chameleon = Object Mimicry

Matter Creation = Create Object (w/ Precise and Subtle)

Molecular Manipulation = Animate Objects + Corrosion + Transform (6pts)

What I'm worried about is loosing the ability to create (eventually and/or with difficulty is fine, I'm just wanting the option) things like computers, cars, planes, etc. either from another object or ex nihilo.

Thoughts?

Ok, ways to deal with those..

You need to look at the possibility of creating a power suite, a set of powers all linked to one power, as a series of dynamic powers. Don't forget you need continuous, making Transform 7 rather then six, if you want your effects to be lasting.

Matter Chameleon = Object Mimicry

yeah, this is spot on IMO

Matter Creation = Create Object (w/ Precise and Subtle)

You need to add Continuous Duration if you want it to last even if you get KOed, add the permanent flaw if you cannot dispell the item after creation. Add the innate Feat if the item is effectively "real" and cannot be negated by use of the Nullify power.

Molecular Manipulation = Animate Objects + Corrosion + Transform (6pts)

I'm not very familiar with Molecular manip but as Krul suggests a power array structure would be appropriate to replicate any of the Aberrant suit powers (like EA, EM, MM, CyberK, etc). Those three do seem reasonable effects for a Molecular control descriptor though.

Guys, if you need to run stuff by me for appropriateness, feel free. I'm willing to help people maximize their character submissions; I don't want someone to put a bunch of work into something, only to have to tell them, "This is *great* but not right for this game."

So far, I'm seeing a lot of dark occult stuff cropping up. That's fine, just letting people who are pondering things know what trends I'm seeing.

lich.jpgBa'al Moloch, Lord of Bones

Concept: Lich & Necromancer

Name: Ba'al Moloch, Lord of Bones

True Name: Unknown

Aliases: Molek, Ossman, Calcifer, possibly others

Appearance: An animated skeleton dressed in flowing robes. The limbs often appear to be wrapped in strips of cloth as though mummified, and the skull and other visible bone display evidence of infernal runes carved into the bone and cast in metals or adorned with jewels.

Height: 5' 3"

Weight: 38 lbs (yes 38 pounds, bones don’t weigh much)

Background: common knowledge only, in brief

The undead being that calls itself Moloch has origins shrouded in the depths of time. It claims to be the original Molech as worshipped by the Phonecians, Cannanites, and others in the ancient near east. Whether this claimed identity is true or not no one appears to know. What is known is that Moloch, or another undead using the same moniker, has been active for at least 150 years according to files held by Scotland Yard. Those same files are admittedly incomplete however due to a break in and fire during the late 1960's.

Moloch first reappeared in the current era in 2038 breaking into the British Museum and stealing away with an array of artifacts from ancient Egypt, Babylon, Sumer, and others. Most of those same turned up on the black market within weeks, but a few never surfaced. That year, on October 31st, Moloch clashed with the hero, Mechatron, the Metal Man, as he attempted an arcane ritual within the Stonehenge. Forced to flee, Moloch swore revenge on the cybernetic hero, and the two have gone on to clash repeatedly since.

more to come...

Gather Information Checks will reveal the following:

  • DC 10: Moloch is an undead sorcerer, commonly called a Lich.
  • DC 15: Moloch's crimes center on the aquisition of ancient artifacts, especially tablets, scrolls, and books. It appears as though he is searching for something.
  • DC 20: Moloch has been active before, in fact, Scotland Yard has incomplete files going back to the mid and late 1800s
  • DC 25: Moloch has been destroyed at least once in the past 10 years but is apparently immortal, having regenerated from being blasted apart.

I know you are all eager beavers, but I recommend waiting until I have the background stuff out. For starters, there are NPCs I'm creating that you could have as a nemesis. Also, it'll give you an idea of the world and you can alter stuff as you wish.

If you've already submitted a character, you'll have another chance to resubmit if needed.

Though several of you are aware of it through chat already, I am *definitely* interested in this game.. I'm just now getting to the "reading of the official thread" part of the process. I hear about things from Carver and Mala before I actually read them on the board most of the time, LOL.

Anyway, I'll get a post up (if you still need it, Carver) answering some of the questions you asked. For now, I just want to put it out there that I want to play, and I would play Edward. Same general backstory applies, I'll probably keep the temporal manipulation factor. The details I'm going to wait on until you've posted preliminary background stuff.

World History

In 2015, the first of the super heroes and villains arose. Until that time, these powerful beings had been regulated to the myths and legends of mankind. By quiet agreement, the then-powerhouses of good and evil had kept their public machinations to a minimum. That changed when Clan Lord, a villain, went a little mad and decided to kill the royal family. He wanted a return to the days when English nobility was a disparate group of lords. He managed to keep his plans secret until his attack, a fact that the villains would come to rue. He and his band of ‘Clansmen’ succeeded in killing the recently-crowned King Charles and the Princes William and Harry as well as Princess Elizabeth, William’s wife. William’s two young boys were not in residence, as they were visiting their maternal grandparents.

The incredibly public attack brought the heroes and villains alike out of the closet, pulling them into the public view. The attack was denounced by both sides, but public sentiment quickly rose against the villains. The heroes were wonderful, noble and often physically beautiful or majestic; the villains seemed sinister and creepy. Also, they were evil and most made no bones about it; many seemed proud of their sinister nature.

The royal orphans, Charles and Anthony, were instant celebrities; leaked pictures of the children crying for their dead parents circled the globe and incited the public opinion. Clan Lord had sought to remove the monarchy, something that some in England supported, but his attack had done the opposite. A cult rose around the children; a hero named Titan named himself the Royal Knight. In time, he dropped the name Titan altogether and is only known as the Royal Knight.

The next year, the mastermind Lucas Gadtree announced a project that he would fund; the Royal Archology. Part city, part self-sustained building and all fortress, it was going to become the safest place on earth. Though Lucas died shortly after the plans were completed, his Archology was built. It was an amazing structure to watch being built – it slowly engulfed the entirety of London. As each level was completed, the Palace was raised to its top, keeping the royal grounds from being subsumed by the Archology.

London, 2050

London remains the seat of the unconquered Britain Empire. In this gritty age, she’s grown to swallow much of the lower third of the island. Growing up as well as out, the heart of the city is the Royal Archology. It is one of a kind; though many other countries have their own Archologys, London was the first. The towering structure soars hundreds of feet into the sky and its base has swallowed up much of the old parts of the city. It is both Britain’s pride and bane; as a self-sufficient unit, it adds little to Britain’s struggling economy. It does generate some tourism money and many of the English boast about their structure.

Inside, the wealthiest of people from around the world live and work in safety and security, assured that they are protected. The lower levels house the poor service industry workers who provide the menial labor needed for wealthy civilization. At the highest point of the structure, Buckingham Palace rests like a jewel on a scepter, resting under an impenetrable dome. The suburbs, which now stretch for miles around the city house those who can’t afford the safety of the Royal Archology, live in its massive shadow. These people supply the Archology with the few things it cannot produce and helps keep the country’s economy going.

The Royal Family, now governed by King Anthony and his wife, Queen Sophia, live at the top of the massive structure in the Palace. Once a crumbling remnant of England’s royal past, it has been returned to its former glory by an adoring public. Prince Charles and his family also lives there, despite having numerous other places where they could live. There they remain, nearly objects of veneration and protected by the mightiest hero known.

Villain Politics

Prior to the Unveiling, the heroes and villains alike adhered to a code of silence. While the heroes might have been interested in protecting the average, helpless human, the forces of evil were much more interested in protecting themselves. If humanity was unaware of them, then their operations were much easier to carry out. Before the Unveiling, if an average citizen saw a strange purple aura around a building, they either swore off the sauce or pretended not to have seen it.

As a result, the villains policed their own. They hunted down villains that had shown the mortal world too much and disciplined them before the heroes did. They killed villains that stepped over the line and tried to reveal themselves. It was a strictly enforced shadow war, and those in power on both sides enforced it.

Since the event which revealed them to the world, the villains now can operate more freely, as well as recruit unscrupulous mortals with greater ease. However, they find that the side effects of their dark rituals, mad experiments or super-human street fights are now reported to the police. In turn, these are rapidly reported to the heroes and the heroes generally take such calls seriously. Working in secret has actually become harder as the suspicious citizens actively watch for them.

With the Unveiling, all of the limits on secrecy have been lifted. There are also still laws that the villains enforce on themselves and those weaker than them. The rule that remains is simple, yet brings the harshest of punishment: don’t bring the wrath of the united force of heroes upon the villains. No one wants pissed off groups of heroes coming after them just because another villain has pissed them off, so the villains will often hand someone over to the enraged heroes for punishment – or provide indisputable evidence to the heroes that the villain in question is no longer a problem. So while this is a single rule, it covers a number of things as forbidden activities: killing heroes, amassing in large numbers to form leagues of super-powerful villains and killing large amounts of innocents. Of course, the unspoken part of this rule is: if the heroes don’t know that a villain is responsible, they won’t cause problems, either.

NPCs to follow.

Heroes of Note

Royal Knight

The mysterious figure once known as Titan and now called the Royal Knight is a very private figure. Nothing is known about his private life; it is assumed he has a mundane identity. What is known as absolute is that he is devoted to the safety of the royal family, taking threats against their persons excessively personally. He can fly, is super-strong and can throw lightning. There have been hints that he’s has other powers that he hasn’t displayed before.

Villains of Note

Bathsheba.jpgBathsheba

Public History: Bethany Walton was a mediocre high school student until her entrance into the villainy world as Bastet. The stunning red-head claimed she was bitten by a mysterious black man in her first sexual encounter, only to become a lion on the next full moon. She has since risen to the top of the villain food-chain, showing no mercy for those who have gotten in her way. Some of her conquests and boasts include stealing into the upper levels of the Arcology, defeating the Night Watchman and surviving a one-on-one fight with Dr. Primordis. Her coup de grace is her usurpation of Dr. Kill as the leading villain; she accomplished what all had told her was impossible by taking the leadership of the informal group before murdering him. A brief but bloody shadow war shortly after her ascension secured her position and she changed her name to Bathsheba, Queen of London.

Personal Life: After solidifying her station at the head of the London underworld, the young woman was unabashed about her desire to create a legacy. Not long after, she became pregnant, calling the child her heir before it was born. She claimed that she seduced the Royal Knight, the defender of Britain’s Royal Family. He has denounced her claims; she countered that of course he’d never admit something so scandalous. After the little girl was born, the Sun has offered to do a paternity test; the Royal Knight refused to give any credence to her claims while Bathsheba wouldn’t allow anyone near her child.

Nemesis: Her nemesis is not the royal family’s personal protector; it is the angelic Krystal Hunter that is her primary rival. Krystal Hunter publically denounced Bathsheba as a liar and a slut after Bathsheba announced who the father of her child was. Krystal Hunter was quoted as saying that Bathsheba had no idea who the father really was and was just trying to slander the Royal Knight. None of this was news, but Krystal Hunter called her ‘Bethy’ throughout her public diatribes against Bathsheba. This enraged the werelion, who attacked Krystal Hunter in public and soundly trounced her. Neither woman has ever forgiven the other and mentioning one is sure to set the other one off.

Known Associates: The so-called Queen of London rarely gives her trust, but two people are closer to her than any other. Bathsheba’s current lover is Wrathlord, Master of the Silver Chains. Most people consider him a prat, and Bathsheba herself has been heard to disparage his personality. Some wonder if he’s really that good in bed, or if he has some other way of keeping her attention. Bathsheba’s other trusted confidant is her six-year-old daughter, Miranda, known as the Princess of London. Miranda was born with super-human abilities; no one is completely sure to what extent those abilities extend, but attempts to kidnap the child have ceased since the last one was found in pieces in Miranda’s bedroom.

FeuerMagi.jpgFeuer Magi

Public History: The Feuer Magi is German by his own admission and accent, but little else is known. He was one of the first to denounce the attack on the Royal Family, though he decried it as ‘a pointless, pathetic exercise’. This lack of sympathy has earned him no fans in the public, a statement which he has said means less to him than the guano he scraps off the ass of his retarded bat.

The Magi is known to be a master of ghosts and spirits, as well as a strong elementalist. His first element mastered was fire, and it remains a strong component in his rituals today. His shift into the more metaphysical side of the Art came suddenly, causing much speculation as to the cause.

Personal Life: Little is known of the Magi’s personal affairs. He doesn’t speak of them publically, though he mentioned a bat-breeding program with pride. The rest of his life remains a mystery.

Nemesis: Thunderbird, a weather manipulator who resides in the ‘Colonies’, holds the distinction of being the Magi’s sworn enemy. When the Magi lived in the United States, he and the Thunderbird sparred constantly over the Magi’s attempts to control the spirits that the Native Americans consider sacred. Thunderbird and he clashed many times, until Bathsheba offered the Magi somewhere quiet to do his studies; Britain was just as full of spirits as North America, but there was no indigenous population. To the Magi’s annoyance, Thunderbird has continued their rivalry from afar, popping over to the Island occasionally to fight.

Known Associates: The Feuer Magi is often accompanied by two fire elementals that he has bound to his service. They never speak to anyone but him and always jump to obey his orders. It is unknown whether they serve willingly or by force.

Monster.jpgMonster – Brute

Public History: Edward Ismail was the son of an Indonesian immigrant and English mother. His father was deported as a terrorist not long after his birth and executed. His father was captured by a hero named Richter, an earth mover. At five, Edward declared that he’d spend his life destroying the man who had taken his father.

The boy joined gangs at an early age and did his best to get at Richter, only to fail to even come close. The determination and hatred in one so young caught the attention of the mad scientist Seizure. While considered a failed villain based on his inability to approach his goal, Seizure saw an opportunity. He offered Ismail the chance to become strong enough to take his revenge.

For three years, the boy endured torturous experiments designed to make him into a super-human. However, as time went on, the tests began to mutate him until it became apparent Seizure wasn’t trying to enhance him but utterly alter him. For a moment, Ismail thought about escaping, but he realized he was stronger. So he remained until his body grew resistant to further changes, his very DNA coding itself against more mutations and rendering him useless. Seizure tried to kill him, but Ismail had become far stronger than Seizure understood. It was Monster who walked out of that laboratory, reborn in the blood of the man who created him.

Since then, Monster has continued to burn for vengeance but has been unable to deliver the killing blow. Richter is very powerful in his own right and though their fights have reached epic proportions and caused billions in damage, neither one has prevailed over the other for long.

Personal Life: Monster now lives in his Labyrinth, the sewers under the Arcology. There it’s said he has a personal harem of human women he’s collected as mothers for his children. Whether or not the creatures seen with him are his children or just other mutated creatures like himself, only Monster knows. No one has seen his personal lair and come back to tell about it.

Nemesis: Richter is a earth manipulator who has earned Monster’s personal ire. The two have an incredibly antagonist relationship; it’s so bad that other heroes have a standing order to intercede if they see the two of them fighting each other. Other villains have been told to make sure that their fights are contained to cause limited damage. Since Richter rarely goes into the Arcology Labyrinth and Monster rarely leaves, the two don’t have a chance to fight often.

Known Associates: There are no known associates of Monster. He has smaller creatures following him which he calls The Children.

FatherMcDonnell.jpgFather McDonnell

Public History: George McDonnell was a very happy man; he’d grown up knowing that he’d be a priest from a very young age. He entered seminary from high school, almost before he was eighteen. He applied himself diligently to his studies, throwing himself into the delight of learning about God.

He was assigned to London as a priest for his first assignment, and he was utterly content in his life. Then Nuada, the premier British eco-terrorist, assaulted his church. McDonnell bravely stood up to the gender-bending fey, but xhe broke his mind with xer poisons. In a moment, the young man was reduced to a broken, pain-filled shell of himself.

After Nuada left, he was given the finest treatments available as well as the prayers of his church. When he came back to himself, it wasn’t from the prayers, he knew. It was because of the power of medicine and science. And Nuada had sickened him because of natural poisons and God had not stopped it. McDonnell had lost his faith and in doing so, lost his morality.

After he was better and had left the priesthood, McDonnell went to the Greens, Nuada’s fortress in the recreational area formerly known as New Forest National Park. There he found the eco-terrorist and engaged in a long philosophical talk. At the end of it, Father McDonnell became Nuada’s student.

The relationship was short. It wasn’t long before McDonnell began to push the limits of what Nuada thought was right. The two parted on terse terms. McDonnell used his knowledge to create some drugs which turned a tidy profit. From there, he built a small crime empire based on the principle that science is God.

Personal Life: McDonnell still insists on having the title of ‘Father’ as he is now a follower of Intelligent Reason. His lair is a fortified lab on the North side of London, near Peterborough. He has numerous lovers, both male and female, as part of his embrace of the delights of the world. Science offers him no reason not to enjoy himself and so he spares himself no luxuries. He lives in utter opulence and frequently entertains guests at various parties.

Nemesis: As McDonnell was created by Nuada, so was Seraph created by McDonnell. He attacked a rival competitor in the drug trade and destroyed his home and processing plant. One of the people he left for dead was a drug-addicted prostitute named Angela Whitlow. Angela knew she was dying; in desperation, she begged God for another chance. She claims the Virgin Mary came and told her that God wanted her to save the villains from themselves. The woman came to herself healed, drug-free and with angelic super-powers. Seraph has since forgiven McDonnell for what he did to her, which only angered McDonnell. The angelic woman maintains her loving composure to the former priest, while he remains incensed with her. He has vowed to kill her and rape her corpse; she has vowed to return his faith in God.

Known Associates: McDonnell has no equals, but many followers. Numerous youth have flocked to him to get free drugs in exchange for their obedience, and other would-be villains have gone to him for tutelage. None of them seem to notice that no one has yet survived being trained by him; all have died from accidents or drug overdoses. He has a steady but constantly-changing army as kids cycle in and die out under his command.

Nuada.jpgNuada – Eco-terrorist

Public History: The fey being knowing as Nuada has no known public history. Xhe claims to have come to Terra from another dimension. At first, xhe didn’t wish to be here, but has come to realize that this ecosystem needs xer.

Nuada is a true hermaphrodite, which has been confirmed due to Nuada’s tendency to appear in public nude. When in battle, xhe grows armor to protect xer body. Xhe is a tall, willowy being with black eyes and hair, with the requisite pointed ears.

Personal Life: Nuada has taken over the New Forest National Park on the western edge of London’s current borders. The land has since become a nightmare of fantastic creatures, wild woods and endless terror. Despite this foreboding reputation and appearance, Nuada welcomes polite visitors – so long as they match their host’s view on the desecration that has been done to the planet.

Nemesis: Comet is possibly an insane young woman, but she is also a technological genius. Her insanity is due to her being half-alien; her father is an Ikorian King in another galaxy. Her human mother raised her to value education and Starlight – her real name – is fully a child of the modern age and has been known to check her SocialNet rating in the middle of fights. She dislikes that Nuada has come to this world and is trying to tell it how it should be, so the powerful teen does her best to oppose the eco-terrorist. Nuada finds her annoying in addition to being a symbol of all that is wrong with the world today.

Known Associates: Nuadu has a small army of creatures xhe claimed to have brought from xer world. Unicorn-like beings, wolves with steel teeth and red eyes and giant bats are only some of the monsters that follow the eco-terrorist without question.

Katana.jpgKatana

Public History: Mamoru is the only name this man appears to have, and the only official record of him is as a weapons dealer. He rose to prominence in the London underworld, at first as an associate for the small Yakuza gang Chinami Kai. He was never claimed as an official member of the gang and seemed to have no desire to be part of them. He became known for having the unique ability to gain access to any weapon his clients wanted. In time, he became the undisputed master of this in London. Publically, he keeps out of the spotlight as much as possible; his gang similarly keeps a low profile.

Personal Life: Fewer know anything about Katana. The name itself was given to him by someone in the Chinami, and while Mamoru answers to it, it’s clear he also disdains it. Katana is still not a man to cross; those who done so have ended up dead. Violently, gruesomely, take-notes-on-this ways.

He lives in a complex in Ipswich with his men. ‘Men’ does include women, but by all accounts they are treated no differently than the boys. They live in strict discipline – their food and activities are closely monitored by lieutenants. His gang is very hierarchical; it’s similar to the structure of the Yakuza.

Nemesis: Katana’s nemesis is a super-cop named Simon Angel. Angel has long been on the trail of Katana, citing him to be a concern not long after his name became known to the London police force. The two have since fought an intense street-level war. Though it’s not racked up the body count or damage costs that Monster and Richter’s fight have caused, it has still been a long, bloody showdown spanning years.

Known Associates: Katana has two associates who are known by name: Jason White and Alexis Xiou. Jason is a black man who was one of Katana’s earliest followers; through pure grit and determination that Dirty Harry would admire, Jason has remained by Katana’s side. Alexis is a half-British, half-Chinese woman who says little. Her devotion to Katana is full since he stopped his men from raping her. She begged to join his after that and was permitted; since then, she’s fought her way to stand at Katana’s side as his second lieutenant.

Albright.jpgShrin

Public History: Rebecca Albright was a famous novelist who wrote a beloved series of children’s books. Then she was in a car accident that rendered her comatose. Her body lay in the Manchester Hospital for over a year; as her family prepared to cut off life support, she disappeared.

The next time she was seen, she was calling herself Shrin. No one is quite sure what happened, but she was now a mind-bending puppet-master. Her plans remain uncertain, but she clearly has one. Her movements, though bizarre and unknowable are still purposeful.

Personal Life: Shrin lives in various places; she seems to dominate someone for a time, drain them of the resources she needs and then moves on. As such, she is very hard to track for any length of time.

Nemesis: One of Shrin’s first victims became her primary opponent; Eric Deger spent three years relearning how to walk, talk and care for himself after her mind-wipe left him a tabula rasa. His life was in ruins and the young man took what little money he had left and went to New York. There he tracked down the super-detective known as The Eye and begged to learn from him. The Eye had never taken a sidekick before, but he took on Deger. After six years learning from The Eye, Deger returned to London, bent on taking Shrin down. Funded wholly by the families of Shrin’s victims, Deger works around the clock tracking or fighting the puppeteer.

Known Associates: Shrin has no known associates or friends.

Concept: Martial Artist and Assassin

Name: Unknown

Aliases: Crimson Fist, Red Hand, Bloodfist

Crimes: Murder (all degrees), assassination, collusion, racketeering, blackmail, extortion, etc.

Signatures: A bloody handprint is left on the body or nearby those that he kills for payment.

Known Abilities: Crimson Fist is a martial artist of uncommon skill and power. It is unknown if his abilities stem from years of training and vigorous practice or by way of a supernatural or meta-human factor; some theorize it may be a combination of both. Crimson Fist is best known for his killing hands. Permanently stained red with the blood of his victims, his hands are tough enough and strong enough to shatter stone and pierce metals.

Appearance: Crimson fist wears a black gi jacket over red pants. The back of the jacket sports a stylized red fist in the center. Covering his face above the mouth and the rest of his head is a red mask with white eye lenses.

Height: 5' 4'

Weight: 137 lbs.

Public History: The Crimson Fist first became known in London approximately six years ago. Over a series of several months he developed a reputation as a ruthless assassin for hire. Rumor has tied him to the weapons dealer Katana, and some say that it was Crimson Fist who destroyed the Morag Tong crime syndicate as it tried to overthrow Katana as the chief weapons supplier to the gangs and villains of London. Since then Crimson has kept a lower profile with fewer public executions though the London Police and Scotland Yard know full well that he is anything but inactive. Crimson Fist has been connected to numerous assassinations and is believed connected to dozens of other murders, extortion schemes, and witness tampering to say the least. The man, if indeed that is what he is, will apparently work for any person or organization willing to pay his fees.

In addition to his criminal activities Crimson Fist is a well known champion of the Bloody London Underground Superbrawl Tournament, sometimes known as BloodLUST. Some wonder why he fights but whispers are that he is constantly striving to expand his abilities while other believe him to be searching out a fighter worthy of becoming his student.

Nemesis: Despite his connections with Katana, Crimson Fist has seldom come to conflict with the super cop Simon Angel, instead the murderous martial artist frequently clashes with the heroine White Jade Lotus. White Jade is a member of the Lotus Foundation, a group who use their powers to protect witnesses to crimes perpetrated by Super Villains. In the past the Lotus Foundation made sure these poor people would not be hunted down by villains and also ensured that their information was available to heroes on the trail of such villains. In the modern era White Lotus works closely with organizations like Scotland Yard, the FBI, and Interpol to ensure that witnesses survive long enough to testify in the world court.

Known Associates: Crimson Fist is known to work with Katana though the relationship between them is unclear. Some suspect that Katana hires Crimson Fist to dispose of enemies, others believe the Crimson Fist to be a new lieutenant of the Katana, rising through the ranks of the man's organization by means of his deadly work.

  • 3 weeks later...

I need to let you all know what is going on. My work has increased my hours significantly at the same time that Mala's new home business has geared up. So I work longer hours then come home and work here, too, helping out with that. Most nights, I don't reach my computer until 8 or so. Since I sleep three hours after that, my window for doing anything has shrunk greatly.

The home business won't go away (or it had better not!), but my boss only anticipates the surge in hours to last until the 24th. After that, I'll have the week between Christmas and New Years off, to work or not as I choose. So the deal is: I'll do what I can as fast as I can, giving my posting preferences in the following order: my games which are running combat, my games, my PCs that are in combat and other time-sensitive posting and last, anything else.

So what does that mean for the Evil game? Only a minor delay. I'm not trying to lead into a goodb-bye; I'm eager to run this game. At the moment, I don't have the time to plow through the stuff that needs to be done before we start, though that will change at the end of the month. This does mean that its likely that it won't start next week, as I'd orginally hoped and predicted, but after the turn of the year. So I'm asking for some patience. It will be rewarded. smile
